Sure. I wouldn't mind running a solo game for you if you're interested. I've got some extra time. I'd open up a new formal game--but technically I've got a game going still. Any settings you prefer?

honestly, no. I really need to learn the basics so anything that you think can help me learn enough to possibly start getting in to other games or at least have a pretty decent crash course under my belt. thanks for the response! I'd appreciate any help I could get.

Fair enough. Let's try this. Make me a first level character, any class and race from any book you've got. E-mail me your guy to crypttales@yahoo.com. Let me know when you've sent him since I don't check as often as I should. We'll start with that. Then, once we've got a character to work with we'll put him somewhere. That sound fair?

I'm also looking for a pbp game. I'm an old school D&Der, but I have yet to wander into 3.5 (although I own a lot of the books, heh). I really want to try this medium out and I think the possiblities are endless!

Yeah, I could probably handle a two player game, sure. Same offer. Just come up with a 1st level character out of whatever books you've got, and e-mail the details. Once I get some characters I'll toss you out there into a game and we'll go from there. Sound cool?

Yeah that sounds great, Im working on my character now. I have a few things that I'm kind of multitasking with but when I get it done I'll let you know. and I welcome the other player! it'll be great to be in a game with another person, any ideas on what type of character youre going to make? wouldnt want to double up the ideas

You are awesome sir! I'm going to be up late tonight so I'll whip up a character and email it to you late (early morning) tonight.

Also, nice to meet you Grim!

Hello to you Rilo!

Right now I'm brainstorming stuff, but most likely I will be making either a Ranger or a Bard, I'm leaning towards Bard as I've never played one and they seem fun and different. Hope that doesn't screw up your plans, let me know, I can make a different character.

Heh no worries! Since this is basically my first character I of course am having a horrible time settling on one! but neither of those so far have come up in my ideas so that works perfectly! I'm more than likely going to be doing what you are with the whole staying up and working on a character part.

Hey, I just sent my character info to yah. Thanks!

Just checked it out. Looks good. If you want to post a little bit of history and personality here, that would be great. No biggie though. No need for the great american novel or anything. I would like a little bit of info just so I can get more of a handle on what your characters are about.

You guys still around? Hadn't heard from you at all. I mean no rush if you're just busy or whatever--but it's been a while and I thought I'd check up. If not, no problem I'm here a bunch anyway and I'm sure you can hook up with me later. Just let me know if you're still up for the game or whatever. Thanks.

hey; do you want a partner; I would like to join in if everyone is ok with it. If you want to keep it solo that is cool too.

Well so far there's two guys here, though I haven't heard from them in a while. If you wanted in, that would be just fine. Honestly I'd be fine with starting the game with just you and then if these other guys show up later they can join in later. Like I said with the others, open book--first level character any race any class out of any of the books. I'm pretty open about it, since this is likely to be a beginner's game. Just give me a character concept and e-mail me the stats and we'll be good.

That would be great, more people are definately welcome. and grim sorry I've been out of touch I've been dealing with a move sort of still in the middle but im more or less settled now. my computer is anyway ;). I'll be working on a character and have it sent to you soon.

Terribly sorry sir, work has kept me a little too busy over the past week not to mention a slight case of writer's block. I just sent my character background to you so I'm all set. I'm extremely looking forward to getting this game going! Yahoo!

Alright. Good to hear from you guys again. I've got Amergin's character. As soon as I get a character from the rest of you folks we can get going. We got a third guy, by the way. Everyone say hi to Valegrim.

So yeah, I guess first thing's first. I know you're all pretty new to Play by Post games, but apparently at least some of you have some D&D experience. For those of you who don't, don't sweat it--it's a beginner game. So yeah, if you've got any questions, shoot.

Hello Valegrim! Pleasure to have you aboard. Just get a character made up and we'll be ready to go!

Grim, clarification.., GrimCLEAVER heh, I had a couple of questions now that you mention it. In no particular order...

-What "world" will we playing it, a D&D one or one of your own creation.
-Do we roll dice as much as in person as in your PbP? HOW do we roll over the net here (honor system?).
-How often would you like to see everyone "replying" in the game? Once per day at least or more? That kind of thing.

Those are the ones that I've been thinking about the most. Talk to you soon!

Regarding world, I'm thinking of setting the world in Greyhawk. It's the core setting and incorporates everything from every book including all the gods. Other settings each have their own characteristics which make them really fun, but for starting games Greyhawk really seems like the way to go.

I tend to do my games in a fairly dramatic, low dice rolling way, though characters may feel free to include rolls with their posts in parentheses after the action ie: Tendrake tries to unlock the door (14). That sort of thing. Usually I just let players roll their own dice. I haven't ever had anyone cheat. Even if they did, it would be their enjoyment of the game that would be ruined really, not mine. So yeah, honor system.

As far as how often to reply, I'd say whenever you're on Paizo if you wanted to swing by and rattle off a post. Daily would be great. Generally what kills a play by post game is when either the players or the DM fail to respond to the game for a week or two. By then the game is usually dead. Sometimes not, but games die from neglect. Every couple of days should be fine as long as everyone does. Some games, when everyone is really into it, can get multiple posts from different characters per day. The more often, the faster the game moves, the less bored people get, the less likely it dies. That's pretty much the ratio there.

ok; what character type do we need; am good to play anything; will be checking in today and get this done up; havent played in Greyhawk for decades so where is the starting area going to be and can we be from anywhere on the continent?

I have a preference for repeated posting on Sun-Tues, but can post most days.

We have a bard so far. Granted my games aren't the dungeon crawly stuff so there's less need for the tank and the magic user and the healer...etc. etc. Bleh. Just play what your soul desires to play. Remember it's open books and there's a lot of fun races and classes out there beyond the basic ones from the PHB. Have fun and experiment. That's the fun of a beginner game like this. It's really open and flexible.

Ok; if all is good then will roll up a half elven paladin of the prime elf diety Correllian or however it is spelled and use the Races of the Wild elf paladin substitution levels so will basically be a paladin archer. I am not sure of the email address you entered as it looks smurfed by the april fools program; could you enter it again pls? thanks. Do you have excel? could I send it as and excel file?

Sorry, no luck. I don't have Exel installed. Just a regular e-mail should work fine. The e-mail address is crypttales@yahoo.com

In case I'm still jinxed, that's crypt as in where you bury dead folks, tales as in stories you tell. No spaces or weird spellings and that's at yahoo.com like the search engine.

Hope that helps. The character looks great. Don't own races of the wild so be sure to let me know what the substitution levels do. Thanks.

mostly it is just ranged smite instead of melee smite and the mount you get at 5th is always a unicorn regardless of sex. You can look at a concise list at cystalkeep.com d&d link, classes; then page 85 for the elf paladin. I intend to take aestetic knight feat which will allow me to cross class with monk and have the levels add for melee flury and smite stuff. I also desire to take the traits out of the UA of Easygoing and Honest and the Flaw of Slow. The UA also suggests a house rule of half elfs getting the +4 skill points and +1 pt per level same as humans but not the bonus feat of course. I would like to know if you will use this or not as otherwise I will get 2pts + int bonus per level which is ok but not very helpful to the group.

ok; I emailed you my character.

Valegrim, the character looks great. I read it over last night. I like the backstory.

Well, we're almost ready to start. I just need one more character sent in and we'll be ready. More background forthcoming--I'm still doing some detail research. As soon as I get that wrapped up and I get in the last character we can get started!

Cool; what did you decide about the UA option; think it was on page 85 about half elves and having the 4 extra skill points like humans and about if I could create my longbow and arrows to decrease the starting cost as I have those creation skills?

Liberty's Edge

Hi Valegrim, Grimcleaver, sorry to (briefly) hijack this thread, but Valegrim, are you still planning to play Grim's mecha crusade game too?

I can if that is desired, I just dont know much about it. Will search out the thread; dont want to take someone elses spot if they want in since I already am accepted in a game; am keen to find out how all this works so I can run a game; I just like to play as I gm a lot so was trying to find a game; any game, it is all good to me; fantasy; near future; far future.

Valegrim: Go ahead and take it. It's pretty open book, so if you've got it written somewhere then feel free. I'm not super familiar with Unearthed Arcana, but I'm pretty open to whatever. As for the arrows, if you want to count your arrows as having been made by you personally I'm not going to make you buy them as long as all the skills and whatnot are in order. It should be fine.

As for the Mecha Crusade game, there's no pressure one way or another. I know how it is to have yourself spread thin over a ton of different games.

Valegrim wrote:

The starting area is the small town of Hommlet, still sentimentally called a "village" by those who have lived there their entire lives. Within a generation it has gone from just over 100 inhabitants guarded by a ragged watchtower to a swelling population now over 1000 with a full keep and discussion of the construction of a city wall. It enjoys a reputation as prosperous and pastoral, yet it lingers forever in the perenial shadow of evil. It is the crossroads of the stories of many great adventurers, and the center of a number of quiet intrigues.

The town lies 10 leagues south of Verbobonc (a shifty and superstitious theocracy dedicated to St. Cuthbert of the Cudgel) set amidst the Kron Hills with the Lortmil Mountains to the west and the Gnarley Forest to the east and run through by a gentle meandering river thick with predatory giant crayfish the size of aligators.

The rulers of the region are a pair of old retired adventurers, themselves a repository of tales of glory and daring, Rufus and Burne and much of the recent growth of the town is largely due to them.

Hommlet; that rings a dusty bell; sounds good; what is the thread gonna be named; I guess I need to make another avatar for posts. On anothe note; dont feel stretched to thin; just didnt want to be a hog.

Ok; spent the 4 racial adjusted skill points on 2 cc = 1 rank for dance and 2 cc = 1 rank for sing and gave rebate of 2 gold for the arrows.

I guess we should discuss what code of conduct is expected and any details from what Corellan expects; have some ideas but dont know if you already have this stuff worked out.

Uhh, that avatar looks mighty familiar. Heh.

Yeah, I noticed that too...

Valegrim wrote:

Corellon Larethian is the patron defender and creator of the elves. He is zealously concerned with all the martial disciplines of his people, magical and mundane. He also maintains a careful vigil, looking for signs of taint and corruption within his people--with the intent to annihilate it pre-emptively as soon as it appears, giving him somewhat of an enforcer aspect as well as a guardian. He also rigorously develops his people, continually spurring them toward refinement of beauty, art, culture, dance and anything that ennobles and uplifts the elven people. He also teaches them great reverence for nature and the aesthetic beauty of the natural world, lest their verve to protect themselves turn them into despoilers of the very world they depend upon. He is an enemy of the savage humanoids, and although it seems a personal grudge it is mostly due to his fierce protectiveness of the elves and the forests that are their domain. Likewise his strong ties to sylvan creatures of the wilderness is similarly driven by the desire to maintain cordial diplomatic relations favorable to his people.

His clerics wear blue cloaks and are prominent members of the elven community, serving at many levels throughout in a variety of capacities, from tutors in martial and magical arts to advisors and leaders.

His domains are Chaos, Good, Protection, and War.

His portfolio also includes Elves (and half-elves), Magic, Crafts and Music.

yep; that is what I read too; I am thinking to wear a blue cloak with a point up longsword in the center and have a longsword clasp.

What I really need is to know if their are any particular rules that the order of this dieties paladins have; ie suffer not a orc or goblin to live or dont eat meat for breakfast or whatnot; am thinking to write up a little list and put it for approval, but wanted to know if you had anything in place.

well, lol, to paraphrase Pink, when are we going to get this party started?

any update; when are we gonna start?

I've been out of it for a bit, sorry guys. How're we looking for getting the game going? No rush, just curious how we were progressing.

Ready to start really. Still no word from Rilo, but we can bring him in later if he shows. So far we have three players. There's a Play by Post Discussion thread called Letters from Hommlet where I've set up basecamp and we'll have a game page set up tonight. I have a home game going on in a few hours here that I'm prepping for, but after that I'll start up the new one!

Is it too late to get in on this? Whatever role the group needs I'd gladly fill.

I've done PBP for Rifts, not lately tho. I have all the core books here. Let me know pls. I'll start reading up on the posts.

Mulban wrote:

Sorry man, we're pretty much full up. We've got three guys in and another chair we're keeping reserved for the guy who posted the request in the first place. Glad to see you're interested though, and I hope you'll follow along. Hopefully we'll be getting even more of these games going here as time goes on. There's a lot of talent on these boards and a lot of guys I'd love to see run a game. Anyhow hopefully we can catch another game together sometime! Sorry again.

It's OK. I just read the Letters from Hommlet thread. I'll prolly lurk there, maybe throw in comments to help out the new guys.

Perhaps another opportunity will present itself.

should i change my pally's avatar as it looks like someone else or does it matter?

Hey guys, sorry I disappeared there, Been moving in to a new town and I'm finally completely settled, How's the game going?

Rilo Quelross wrote:

It's going great. Looking forward to you joining. It is really your game after all. If you want to post your character sheet here once you get it put together then we'll get you integrated. I felt bad running the game without you. Oh and as a little space-saving tip you can use the SPOILER tag to hide your stats--cause stat bars and biographies tend to eat up a lot of page space.
