I've read thru the adventure once, and one problem jumped out at me. Aren't Kulas' "pets" susceptible to his gaze attacks? Are they just supposed to stay thirty feet away, or are they constantly averting their gaze?
That, and his pets' slow auras might get in Khala's way as well. The pets are probably best to send up against the PCs in melee while Khala summons a retriever, spits demon spit, and uses spell-like abilities on the PCs at range until they power through his pets.

Thanks, as always, James for you prompt reply. I wouldn't want my players to accuse me of throwing more "Jacobian" monsters at them!
I figured Khala would be ok vs the Slow aura, since his Will save is +21 and the DC is 20 (but he could always roll a 1). I thought, at first, that the pets might be immune to his gazes after so much time with him, but then I thought, Nah! What aspect of Demogorgon worth his salt wouldn't take great pleasure from giving his lap dogs the stink eye all day long and either confusing them or sending them running to the corner with their tails between their legs...er, flippers?

Oh, man... That visual really made my day. Thanks!

Resurrecting a long-gone thread here, but are Khala's pets really mean to have 4 tail lashes each? The standard-issue Fiend Folio skulvyn only has one, not sure if this is a deliberate modification to make these blokes tougher, or whether it was a typo...
I don't recall at this point if the skulvyn even presented a significant threat to the parties when I ran the Savage Tide or not.
Without digging up the issues, I'd go with it "as written", chalking up the extra appendages as experimentation by Khala (via alchemical foodstuffage) on a breed of skulvyn or the like.

I had the pets attack the archer in back - which led to two quite interesting sub-fights. The sorcerer henchman was providing close support to keep the pets of the archer ranger, who was hitting the big bad, supporting the melee players who were getting kind of mauled. I love it when space matters in a fight. Shooting a bow balancing on top of a statue is quite a cool stunt.
But this might not work, depending on your party setup.
