D&D professionals

Off-Topic Discussions

I'm currently having my house renovated and as I try to pass the time with mindless builders and plumbers I thought, "Wouldn't it be great if I could get people who played D&D, then I could pass the time with decent conversations about gaming."

So I wondered, how many players are out there with a professional trade like carpentry or electrician or builder etc? And is anyone needing work doing? It would be a great way of linking up.

I do voice and data cabling (actually any low-voltage) as well as network stuff. I used to manage/cook at a 24hr restaurant - how's that for a change of scenery.

One of my businesses is home improvement. I'm building a bathroom next week matter of fact.

Sometimes I drag screaming, drunk, abusive people out of houses, which has occasionally led to permanent home improvement. Haven't done that in a while, but look forward to returning to my trade this fall, after my desk job ends (hurray!!)

When I read your post, I could hear Tim Allen doing his alpha male chimpanzee "urrrrrrrreh?"

Seriously, though. I'd jack that job up bad. I couldn't fix any of that stuff. I can paint walls pretty good; that's about it.

I used to do stick framing, roofing, drywall, finish work, just about everything above the foundation except Electrical and Plumbing (which I am still decent at).
I spent 3 years running network cabling (voice and data) for a sub-contractor working for DuPont.
I was a quality control manager at a window manufacturing plant.
I worked as a bouncer in a club for a little while.
I worked for Best Buy in the computer department.
I worked for Home Depot in the millwork department.
Now I am a stay-at-home father of 2 who is supported by my 6 figure salary, ex-Miss Delaware contestant (96'), wife.
Life could only be cooler if she gamed.

I do sales and management training and consulting for companies and groups of all sizes.
I do public speaking.
I have been working with Home Depot in home improvement sales for 4 years, but am looking for a change.
I do some editing, though currently that is mostly for my wife, the novelist to be.
I ran an outdoor power equipment dealership.
I have done sales and operations management.

unemployed and undereducated with mensa level IQ

Sorry! My occupation is home unimprovement and dragging screaming abusive drunk people from thier homes, cars, thier neighbors homes, where they have parked thier car... in the second floor. But rarely has anyting been better after I've left.

I'm a nuclear medicine tech. I worked at a job where the chief tech and one of the transporters did pen-and-paper, and there was this other transporter guy from Bosnia that played WoW or whatever, and those two kids would yap about that all day long. I didn't know what they were talking about. And the one transporter kid always wanted to be a drow ranger.
And one day I brought my Conan RPG book to work. All the weapons in the pictures in the equipment section are dripping blood...everybody insisted that I drew that in there, but I didn't.
The conversation was pretty much the same stuff as around here..."blah blah...you're a munchkin....blah blah....Forgotten Realms.....Eberron....blah blah....that's not chaotic neutral....you don't have a clue how spell resistance works..."
And my chief tech lived right next to the hospital, and when I was on call I'd just hang out at his house all day and we'd game until I'd get called in to do a scan. So I'd go do a scan on somebody, and go back and game. Being on call is usually a pretty bleak period of life, but that was fun.
Aaaah,...good times.

What are the odds... I'm a consultant out of an office stuffed to the gills with scientists and engineers--prime gamer raw material, one would think... and I haven't found a single pencil-and-paper gamer in the entire lot (the closest is one person who admits to playing some sort of non-interactive elf-oriented computer game).

Another thing that happened to me, and I've said this before somewhere, lost in the archives,...
There was this one guy who delivered doses to us. I'd talk to him some, well I saw him at the FLGS one day with a big stack of books in his hand,...and I was like, "woah. We've outed eachother. You're busted, gamer."
So ya never know... ;)
I don't hide the fact that I game, but I don't walk up to everybody I see and ask them if they throw the dice. I'm really kinda introverted in real life.

I work at a hospital on the Help Desk. We're talking I.T. which should be GAMER CENTRAL!!! But alas, no, not a single one of the rest of them play pen-n-paper or even ANY kind of computer games. WTH?! It's like a neutralization zone for geeks. (maybe that should read neuter instead of neutral?) When I 1st started working here there was 1 tech who played D&D & Vampire but he's gone & I'm alone.

I was working as a nurses Aide and doing fund raising work for the Make a Wish foundation. Now I am unemployed and going into treatment either Tuesday or Thursday, alas I need to stop drinking.

Is this snarkiness or for real? If it's for real, good luck to you & we'll hear from you when you get out.

I work at a resturant as a busser to get money for college, D&D and other various, less important things. I haven't found any co-workers that play yet but I am always hopeful.
By the way if anyone here ever happens to be passing through Trinidad, Colorado stop by the Trinidad Brewing Company, 516 Elm Street for good food, beer and sometimes live music.

I had professional training as a joiner/carpenter/drywaller several years ago (like, 15 years or so) and studied architecture afterwards, and am working for the city government right now and probably the next 30 years.

Now this just seems like a C.V. thread but hey I can do manual labour so you say what you want moved where and I will figure a way of moving it.

"Richochet movers" yeah!

I make no jokes about about alcholism, it runs to deeply in my family. Thank you for the well wishes Tegan.

I work with a bunch of teachers in China and out of 22 people three of us are gamers. It is great we play every once in a while, though lately it has been somewhat hard to find time. oh well, I guess we are just lucky that way.
