I actually quite watching in the middle of last season, largely because I just couldn't stand Lana any more.
For a superbeing, Clark Kent is an overly obsessed teen...I was far more interested in the Story covering Lexx Luthor...what was the last thing to happen? Its been years since i saw it.

So basically, he's becoming the villian we knew he'd become.

Well, Smallville has been renewed for an Eighth season. However Michael Rosenbaum will not be a regular cast this season since he wants to do other stuff. He said that he will appear on a few episodes. So my question is, who would you like to be the big bad villain during season 8?
Also, why hasn't Clark started his training yet? He was told that he was sent to Earth to prevent it's destruction. That would have motivated me to start training ASAP.

I don't watch it so much anymore, but as for a new BBEG, isn't it time we had Darkseid involved? Though we need a Mr. Mitzpytlyk episode. I'd even enjoy Gilbert Gottfried in the part.
Actually, they've already butchered that particular character. Back when Clark was on the football team in high school an exchange student with powers of mind-control was around for a single episode.
That is one of the worst "adaptations" from the comics I can recall seeing in the show so far. Other than them make Lana a bada** vixen.

I've seen that they are bringing Doomsday in. I'm not quite sure what I will think about this. I was a really hardcore comic reader during that time and don't know if they'll be able to make it work. Lord knows that the animated Doomsday movie was horrible.
Why in the world would they bring Doomsday in?
I kind of liked the Doomsday antimated movie (after being really disappointed with Superman Returns!), but you are right, it was nowhere near as good as the Death of Superman series in the comic books.

OK, I just finished the first half of season 7, and I think I understand better why the tired character of Lana can't just die.
If Clark were in love with Lana, the writers could send her off, in a two or three episode arc, and in a fittingly dramatic manner. Clark wold find a new love eventually (Lois?), and everything could proceed as scheduled.
But Clark isn't in love with Lana.
He's in love with the idea of Lana.
Lana is Clark's Doll's House. She can't be killed until Clark is ready to fully take on the mantle of Superman, and then her death will be the crucible; it'll be the catalyst for his final transformation into the Man of Steel.
Ideas?
Valegrim
well, I heard the writers say that by contract they cannot do that; cannot have him become the man of steel or superman in the series; so Lana stays; my favorite Lana was with the witch powers thread; wish they could up that; after all; in the comics all we know is that Lana was his high school crush and she pops in every now and again to say hello.
Valegrim
yeah, I am with Vic on this one; those years had a better feel and better storyline.
-----------
I still watch it, though I feel it peaked a couple seasons back. I preferred the "when is Lex gonna go evil?" years. The underlying tension of the friendship between Lex and Clark, coupled with the fact that WE knew how it would turn out even though THEY didn't—that was good stuff.
Plus I wish they'd write out Lana already. She's always been a terrible and annoying character. I know it isn't likely to happen because the rest of the world apparently thinks Kristen Kreuk is somehow special (though I personally can't figure out why).
Valegrim
Well, I must say, Clark has been infatuated with Lana since he was a young kid; that sort of thing just doesnt go away, not ever. Its like the whole room just stops when that person comes in; its all sweaty dramatic with; makes no difference if you and she are not together; in some ways that is worse. Classically, they have this sorta burning unrequited love thing going; Clark will have it his whole life.
the weirdest thing for me on this show; was the preaching during the credits; they would roll the actress that plays chloe out to tell people not to have sex until their ready and stuff like that; kinda wierd to have an actress play the role of "this is just a show; keep your pants on until your ready". Was just wierd.

Yes that scene was that good!
Can't help wondering why they couldn't just have a season where Clark has frequent contact with the Justice League leading to a couple of episodes where he's called in to back them up against some serious opposition eventually along with the Martian Manhunter.
Still think they should have introduced MM whilst Ck was in the PZ revealing Zod also used it to hold prisoners revealing there are survivors of Krypton in there and instead of CK going it alone against the rogue prisoners who escaped have the Justice League turn out to be the only force capable of fighting them since Lex is more interested in either recruiting or salvaging any powered beings he can find.
I was also wondering if Titan is actually Doomsday and that what they've introduced is the weakened version because Lex had his scientists use his dna to try and superpower his operatives however he'll eventually find a way to steal Chloe's power since its what makes him so unstoppable no matter how badly he's beaten he'll return and the same means to stop him won't work the next time...
But that means Chloe's killed and even i balk at that!

I just started watching Smallville with last night's episode. I can't believe that I haven't been watching it before. I was stunned by the great writing and storytelling in the episode. Has it always been this good? I remember watching a few episodes of Season One and wasn't impressed with that. However, it seems a lot better now.

Last night's episode hearkened back to the good old days of Seasons 3 and 4--great writing, good hooks, and all the actors acting invested in their characters. Really, very, fun. I was skeptical the series would be enjoyable once Clark left the farm and moved to Metropolis--the show is one of the only programs I regularly watch, but it's been bland since everyone graduated high school. I think the last really, really good episode was when I thought Lana had been killed in the car wreck with Lex. Nonetheless, Clark's first day at The Planet came off very well; the action of the day was well-scripted and didn't feel forced or too contrived, and I finished the episode smiling instead of flummoxed (as I was at the end of last week's episode--Clark got his powers back a little too easily for my taste). I'm anxious for next week. :-)

For some reason just at that point I get the urge to play Star Wars: Force Unleashed.
Then it Hits me..

I really liked the way that they handled Ollie's origin story and how they tied him in with Tess. I hope they parcel out more details as the season progresses since it seems that there is even more there than has been revealed so far. I hope that they handle Maxima well when she pops up next week. Maybe Clark can steer her into the Justice League, although I fear she will end up with Tess' group instead.

That touch-up of his origin and folding it into a present-day storyline was about the most elegant bit of writing I've seen on this show. I was impressed!
Also impressive was Olivers slow-growing hair. Two years, and he only had five o' clock shadow? Wow. :)

I actually enjoyed last night's episode more than usual. I liked seeing another character from the comics brought in. And if I remember correctly, they didn't actually stray to far from the original Maxima story.
All in all, though, I can absolutely see this being the final season.
Unfortunately, I read somewhere that the CW is planning to further violate the DC Universe with their next new show. The Graysons - will be all about the adventures of a young Dick Grayson before he meets Bruce Wayne. Shoot me now!

My guess is that this will end up going the same way as the propossed Aquaman series. It will most likely get off the ground. I would like to see Bruce Wayne appear in an episode or two of Smallville. It would really fit to have a classic Batman Superman teamup, but before they both were who they are now.

If the producers just put clark in the Supersuit, let him fly and stop making him a such winny b**ch the show could go on for a few more years. Otherwise I agree with Aberzombie the this is probally the last season.
Well the CW has said that they want to become the new home of teenage girls on television. That does not bode well for the series lasting past this season one way or the other.

This episode was...interesting...to say the least.
I kind of wish we'd gotten more of Doomsday and Clark fighting a bit, but it was still a good scene. I was surprised that they would have Davis change so quickly. It makes me wonder if they are going to carry the Doomsday storyline out through the end of the series, or if they are going to have some greater villain by then.

Completely agree! The lure of the series, IMO, was the slow character development of Lex. So now we have a bad guy, AND...
Bring on the Legion!

I don't watch Smallville (as I really don't watch tv at all), but I really enjoyed it. Definetly exceeded my expectations. Garth was pretty immature but that happens a lot with people of their age (rage of maturity levels). Rock was quite the thinker, leader, which I really liked as well, and I think Imra was best represented in appearance. I though Persuader would have a bigger role though. They made a reference to Brainaic 5, stated that there were other Legionnaires and invited Kal-El to visit someday. Loved the close-ups and emphasis on the Legion Flight Ring. I liked that they showed the Kal-El's influence over the Legion. Didn't care for the Legion willing to kill Chloe but they learned from Kal-El in the end that there is always another way to solve things; they made it their #1 rule (so good show of influence there). I really hope this episode flies, a spin off would really be the greatest thing. I'd give the episode an 7.5 out of 10.

I really liked last nights episode. As someone who is a comic-book fan since waaaayyy back, I enjoyed seeing such a comic-heavy storyline. Those Legion rings were awesome, and it was cool to see a lot of FX and ability use for a change.

It looks like Season 9 might be it though...
I agree that Season 8 was pathetic. I thought things would have improved with the introduction of the Justice League a few seasons ago, but it appears they're bent on making Clark Kent a big wuss.
That whole Chloe/Ambulance Guy love-slave crap made me gag...
Sigh.

Worst single episode of the series so far. I'm very disappointed. The whole episode was disjointed and, once again, the writing felt rushed. Here's to hoping Season 9 will be better.
We still have to deal with the fallout of the League going down the road it did and Lois ending up in the future. Season 9 has the potential to be very interesting. Completly selfishly, I would like to see Clark fly and put on the tights before the series is over as well.

I'm sure the finale will end with the final transformation into Superman, complete with tights, flying, and hair curl.
I though season 8 was the most uneven of all the seasons so far, further evidence that no series should ever go past 7. But when it worked that third-to-half of the time that it did, it worked as well or better than the show has since the first few seasons. I for one love the budding seeds of the Lois/Clark relationship that is so iconic and maybe the best superhero love story ever. I have my doubts about season 9, but I also have faith. Smallville's been a good show for, well, eight years now, and I can't believe it would completely tank in its final year.

I actually hated Season 9 premiere.
Hated.
Season 9 is going to be one big sappy douchebagaffair, methinks.
(don't forget Lana: when you think a somehow coherent plot is about to develop, she'll rear her ugly... err... beautiful head back into the frame and confuse good ol' Clark once again... I think Rosenbaum was smart to dump this show when he did... I hope I see him in a Lex Luther spin-off... :) )
