Bleh. I guess I'll get un-lazy. I buy from my FLGS, but it's hard to justify full cover price when that tasty subscription price has been out there for aeons.
Just wanted to second the motion for PayPal.
I think low shelf demand (due to all the subscribers, hopefully) must have resulted in Dungeon being pulled from the last place in town that had it. They still do Dragon, but I think I've been cut off from Dungeon.
As leery as I am about subscriptions (bad childhood experience), and as untrusting as I am of landmail services, I'm effectively against the wall, I guess.

I would like to say you would definately get a boon from paypal orders from say people like me who use it.As we people dont want to mess with a ripoff method of payment such as a credit card ir checking account as there's way too much BS in suspicious charges etc.It's inevitable they do this especially with people with not so good credit scores.Anywho if and when you do get paypal i'll jump in and up my subscriptions.BTW on my subscriptions will i get the savage tide players handbook even if my subscription started on the second mag of the series?

The Savage Tide Player's Guide was only a subscription bonus for people renewing at Gen Con Indy in August. For everyone else, we sell the print edition for $5, or you can download a PDF for free.

We took some time in the past couple of weeks to examine PayPal integration in detail, and we found many things that make it a bigger challenge than we expected. (While it's easy for certain types of orders, it's a bit of a nightmare for certain other types of orders.) At this time, we need to put our development efforts elsewhere, so PayPal is on the backburner again. To be honest, unless they make significant changes to their systems, it probably won't happen this year.

The thing with PayPal is that it doesn't really make sense from a business standpoint for a decent sized website.
Paypal is designed to facillate micro-payments, primarily for a website/business/individual who doesn't have a merchant account with a credit card company, but wants to accept payments from a credit card.
For the convenience of being able to accept these payments through PayPal, the reciever of the payment ends up paying transaction fees. Which are generally higher than you would pay with a merchant account with a credit card company, since PayPal is essentially acting as a middleman in the transaction, and taking their own cut.
But Paizo does accept Visa and Mastercard, so it wouldn't really make sense for them to also accept PayPal. Every payment made with PayPal would be an additional cost, b/c of the higher fees. Plus the work on the backend to integrate PayPal usage into the site.

If I may, I'd suggest something to y'all who are such PayPal whores (as I am!) It's a relatively easy matter to upgrade your PayPal account and have them issue you a Mastercard that accesses the funds in your PayPal account. Sounds odd, but once you get it and see how it works, it's a real godsend. I sell a lot of old Saab parts on eBay, and to avoid the delays in transferring money to my bank account (and the high fees for sending or receiving funds), I will simply pull out my PayPal Mastercard and charge it. Works just like a credit card in every way, but it's more like a debit card in that it only draws on available funds IN the account - so, for example, if you try to charge $100 and your PayPal account only has $45 in it, there won't be an automatic transfer of $55 from your checking account to cover the difference. You can also withdraw funds at an ATM, just like PayPal was a checking account. Keen!
Another bonus? Transactions with the PayPal MC give you cash back into your PayPal account. Let me tell you, in 2002 when I charged $55,000 worth of convention hotel expenses to my PayPal MC, the cashback I received off that was impressive indeed :-)

While all that fee stuff is true, the real problem is that PayPal's authorization system is designed for paying for items that ship pretty much immediately. As with credit cards, an authorization is opened when you place an order, and gets closed when the order ships. Unlike credit cards, PayPal expire payment authorizations quickly (in a matter of days, whereas credit cards authorizations can stay open for weeks), and they limit the number of times you can reopen them and the amount of time they can be reopened after the initial transaction. Worst of all, if you have too many authorizations that expire without being closed, they say they'll close your account.
In short, this means that preorders, backorders, and even some plain old out-of-stock items that we have to order from our distributor would take too long to fulfill for PayPal's authorization standards, so we can't really use them until that changes.

I just popped into this thread because it's been up for a bit and I was curious as to what the deal is, and I have to say that I'm (once again) really impressed by the honest and thorough explanations that you guys take the time to give us for things like this. I don't have a vested interest in the paypal thing, but I appreciate the consideration that goes into issues like it.
