I am not intimidated or angered by criticisms of my country but this were-boor was attempting to spread the very maleficence that had been passed on to him. A bad-experience-in-online-gaming borne lycanthropy...

Oh someone, PLEASE create me a template.

Gimme another 20 years or so and I'll be able to answer yes.

Now on to my rant, or to be more exact, my list of things that really tick me off:

I hate that every time I watch the news I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

I hate how people always glorify their memories and forget that things probably sucked back then.

I hate how honour and compassion are seen as a sign of weakness by a lot of people. That a great many folks think that morals and concepts such "good" and "justice" belong in books and games, that few people do things today simply because they hold a shred of compassion for their fellow man.

It occaisonally irks me how the majority of pronouns for describing our race as a whole are male, eg "modern Man". But not often, just occasionally.

I hate having to be the voice of not just reason, but compassion understanding and tolerance as well. I'm a madman people, I should not have to be the one using common sense, but because I always remember that people are people, regardless of how stupid, ignorant and annoying they are, I have to play the counterpoint to peoples irrational hatreds and impulse decisions. Insensitive pricks, I’m the one who was born with my brain wired differently I should be the one who gets to do all stupid and fun crap but nooo, I had to listen to all those tales about honour, chivalry and doing good as a child and take them to f*%&ing heart.

I get annoyed at how the caps lock key on my keyboard is right next to the shift key. Makes it so easy to hit by accident.

I hate how nothing in society ever makes sense once I think about it, and yet the people with the power to do something about it just say “that’s just the way it is”.

I can’t stand people who continuously complain about thing they can easily change.

I hate people who are not just ignorant but actively refuse to learn and base their actions on their wildly incorrect estimations, people who assume so much and never realize that nothing is ever certain, particularly the basis for their prejudices and discrimination.

I can’t stand how I can never hate someone once I meet them face to face, make it so hard to be properly angry at someone who hasn’t gone out of their way to piss me off. G%~+!!ned empathy crap.

I really hate how modern culture seems to be focused on sex, gender, relationships and all that crap. It pisses me off because everyone assumes that because "die a virgin" is on my to-do list I must be some sort of loser freak. No one ever assumes correctly that it could be because I'm, oh I don't know, ASEXUAL, and therefore couldn't give a damn. That said, that whole sex thing is just plain hilarious from an outsiders point of view (see the film “Omen”).

Stupid people just bug the hell out of me, except when they’re legitimately disabled, in which case I just wish I could help.

I hate how I’ve probably managed to stumble over my words and come off whiney, immature or six years younger than I am.

I hate those a@@holes who forget that, like it or not, things are gonna change and you had best get used to it.

I hate b$&)%*t, and lately it seems I’m wading in it whenever I turn on the news.

I hate modern society, I’m not saying it’s evil or anything, I just wish there was a viable alternative where everything wasn’t so f%(*&d up.

It scares me how ridiculous the nominally most powerful nation on earth is and how moronic both their leadership is and the people who continually vote said leadership into power are.

I hate people who can’t just grin and bear it, who can’t just walk off those little scrapes and bruises. ‘Fer entropy’s sake yer not three year olds ya b^“)£$!ds.

I hate American culture. I hate to tell all the americans out there, but to a majority of the rest of the world your country comes off as arrogant, self-obbsessed and a little retarded. I don't have a problem with the people (hell, I've even got american cousins) but the country and culture come off as being made of jerks. I know this is incorrect, but that's how it seems from the outside folks. (and I've never played world of warcraft and what have you that much).

I dislike online games, they always seem to suck unless you can find a group of good roleplayers.

I hate people who don’t at least TRY to spell correctly, you all took English classes for at least a few years right?

I hate people who assume that just because I ascribe to the above philosophy that I don’t try to change things, I simply don’t it bother me when I fail to change them to the better.

I hate people who think I’m joking when I say that I actually know what a berserker rage feels like, it feels like crap afterwards.

I LIKE cute little puppy dogs, Buddhists and quiet peaceful places. Conversely I also like mosh pits, swords and loud rock music at three A.M. Does this make me insane? No, the insanity makes me insane (though the conversations with myself help).

(holy c%$p, I took so long to type this the thread is on a new page!)

I think it's perfectly okay to be asexual, Tome. Some people just don't have that monkey eek eek do it do it chemical drive is all. Asexuality just another way to be and that's cool. And I know sex can look silly to the outside point of view, but not when I do it. I'm really quite exceptional. It's gotta be the shoes.

That said Buddhists and puppy dogs are alright by me, as well, any old day of the week.

Scarab Sages

See, look at that, a negative point of view with regards to america that I can completely respect. This time it is the lack of ignorance involved I think.

There are many times that I as an american hate the american culture. I hate fast food. I hate the sensational, materialistic natures that our culture encourages in us. I hate how we fight for womens rights one day and and attain new heights of female objectification the next. I hate going to war without a complete level of confidence in my leaders.

But I love the ideal that is america. I love my freedom to succeed or f*&ckup under my own power. I love that though we may me fractious and indecisive and partisan and prejudiced against each other all you have to do is F*&k with us and all that will change in a heartbeat.

I am not saying that other countries do not possess these attributes, america does and america is what I know. The person I am fighting with one day is the same person watching my back as I put bullets down range the next.

Thank you Tome, for hating intelligently.

Y'know - I'm getting fairly tired of how the new D&D encourages "power gaming" at the expense of (I assume) "role playing", which implicitly suggests that old AD&D did the reverse. While this point was most recently raised by Mr. Rambo, it seems like a prevalent theme on this thread (together with how evil WotC is for producing RPGs), and, in my opinion, it is just plain wrong.

3.x D&D gives you more options and variety than the previous editions.......... The problem of power gaming isn't caused by the new edition - it is caused by players.

Word!!!

I just had a player who has been b%+~%ing and whining the whole time we've finally started playing 3.x how much he misses 2nd Ed. I identified with the feeling for a while, but since have realized that I was incredibly mistaken. Recently in a post game discussion, he said that he liked how there wasn't skills and feats so you could just 'come up with an ability check' to resolve an action that wasn't covered in the rules. How freakin' powergamer is that!?!?! I read it as, "If the DM likes me and thinks my character idea is good and the other players don't mind me spotlighting the game for an hour then I can pull off <...> for a couple of ability checks."

I had fully stepped over the fence by then, but that time I had to tell him that I will never go back to 2nd Ed. (or anything earlier)

Scarab Sages

Hey Tome, if you don't mind I am curious about asexuality and how it might affect common gamer roles. I tend sometimes to go to far with regards to what other might consider "personal" so let me know if are uncomfortable with any further inquiry.

OK not really but Labatt's Blue is not considered a good quality beer by most Canadians.

Labatt's Blue is much better than most American light lagers and I have so many fond memories associated with drinking Labatt's Blue that my tastebuds are probably a bit influenced by that. I've never had a chance to drink Canadian microbrews, which I'm told are really good. Molson Canadian and Molson Golden and Moosehead and Labatt's Blue are about the limit of my Canadian beer experience. I'm going to visit Ultradan just so I can game in his garage and have him give me an education on Canadian beer.

I hope to correct that someday with an extended visit to Canada--I have only been to Windsor on a short day trip. The real reason I love Canadians is because of Alex, Geddy and Neil of course, but beer seemed as good a reason to judge millions of Canadians worthy of my affection as any other reason.

I too, love those who have given me my Rush. And thanks for making it so reasonably priced to film there! Seriously! If I wanted to film in Yonkers, NY it would cost over $500 a day. Go twenty minutes northeast to Rye, NY and the price is literally twenty times higher than that.

Tangent: Ever see that Canadian film about the officeworkers who make a bet to see if they can live inside their officebuilding/supermall for an entire year? I wanted to buy it, and now I can't even remember the name. I could win that bet. If I don't have work you'd think I was under house arrest.

Oh yeah, this is a rant post. Hmm...

I HATE PEOPLE who won't help me to remember the name of the aforementioned film! Grrr--I'm just so very upset about this. Grrr!

How'd I do?

I hate that I have to miss my D&D game on Sunday. I have to go to Seattle for training that I do not want. It won't even help me get a better job.

I hate that my wife has to NPC my cleric. We only have one healer and the DM wants him to come alnog, even if I am out of town. I just know that he will end up dead.

I hate rolling up new characters. Should it really be called "rolling up" if you use point buy?

I hate when the DM uses nothing about the character backgrounds that he required everyone to write up. Don't complain that we have no motivation in character if you havn't botherd to read the motivations we supplied. Yes, I CAN be a recovering alcoholic and a cleric of Pelor!

I hate insurance companies and bill collectors.

I hate illegal logging.

And... to the poster who likes most of the world because of the beers they produce, how about a little love for:
Shiner, Texas - home of Shiner Bock and just a short trip down the road from me
Latrobe, Pennsylvania - home of Rolling Rock and the near where I first learned to play D&D

I hate this too. And I hate when I as dungeonmaster had to address character backgrounds, all I usually had to work with was "my character is a ninja." So I'm stuck trying to figure out why a ninja organization has planted an operative in this group of adventuring mercenaries. I'd usually leave it as a command from the bosses to "insinuate yourself into the party, stay under cover, and await further instructions. They will come in the form of a gnome carrying a rice ball, who will say, 'a foyne marnin' tee yah, och.' Do exactly as this gnome says." Then I have four or five levels of playing to figger somethin' out, if the game goes that long.

Look around you next time you're at a tavern with your adventuring party. Chances are....one of 'em's a ninja!

Oh, you betcha...Shiner Bock is great and I drank my shore of Rolling Rock as well. I was just making snap judgments on people's nationality based on the beer they produced...if I was going to list all my favorite U.S. regional beer then my post would have been too long and I already loved all Americans anyway. It was just my silly attempt to show how silly it was to judge a whole people based on how they play computer games.

PS: Be careful mentioning Shiner Bock around Lilith--she lives in Oregon and can't get Shiner up there, so she gets a bit misty-eyed since she used to live in San Antonio. I won't even tell her there's Shiner Blonde now, which is lip smackingly delicious as well. Alas, it is 10:00 AM here and I can't crack open my first cold one for another two hours...think I 'll go play some World of Warcraft and see how many Kiwis I can shoot in the back of the head.

I have only been able to find it once in Oregon - in some backwater town with only ONE grocery store with a 10-ft wide rack devoted to Bud, Coors, Pabst, and Miller. They had a teeeeeny section for microbrews, and there it was - it was the Holy Grail. I thought I saw a halo around it.

I was also broke at the time. *cries*

My other half took pity on me, though. "It's okay, honey, I'll get you a six pack." One of the many reasons I love him. :D He was able to taste said Shiner and he was able to homebrew a clone of it. Mmmm...tasty tasty beer... Of course, when we went on vacation to Newport (Oregon), we went on the Rogue Brewery tour. They helpfully have you wait for the tour to begin at the BAR, where you can get a sampler platter of their beer.

Anyway - beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy!

Despite all the flaws of this country, and the horrible, horrible mistakes that we make (and some deliberate actions that we take), I then look out my window at the rolling field behind my house, the trees in the shade of the late evening and the meandering stream at the base of the hill, and I breathe in and know that I am free to do and say what I want, be who I want to be in this country, and there is no other nation in existence on this planet that was started with that vision and has carried it out, despite all the tears and tragedies, to the extent of my home: America. Reading the thermo-nuclear detonation of Rambo's moronic statments has made me look back over what is good about this land and feel more proud to call America "home" than I have in a long time.

And Tome, thank you for proving that someone can have a completely different viewpoint and still be civil and respectable in formulating it.

Oh, and FH, that was a great analogy with the 2x4.

Things I love- I loved last night's D&D session! I was running "Funeral Procession", and it was the most fun I've had DMing in ages!

I was able to make snap, ad hoc decisions without anyone arguing or getting pissed off, but rather, appreciating the cinematic thrill of the moment. The conversation was easily woven in and out of light-hearted, around-the-table talk and serious attention to what was happening in game. The class combinations at the table couldn't have been better for the adventure, the immediate backstories of the characters tied directly into the plot without the players knowing they would and almost no direction from me, the roleplaying was good, the battles were fast and furious, with the party soundly defeating the bad guys but still maintaining that sense of potential danger and threat, which satisfied me as a DM to know that they were being heroic and still feeling challenged, and best of all, I actually, for the first time ever, got a compliment in the nature of "Great adventure!" Wow- this is what D&D should be. Just amazing!

And the suggestion to go over to political forums and start posting D&D arguments. Oh, I hadn't laughed enough today, thank you! :D

"Greyhawk in '08!"

"FR voted NO on Necromancy in '82; can we trust them with our characters?"

#3: Paladins, wtf.. The Koga has detect evil for a reason! If he detects something as evil it's having a sword penetrated through them! Paladins were based off ruthless Templars who had no qualms about killing people they THOUGHT were evil, The Koga has the ability to KNOW they're evil, so excuuuse him if he's arrogant and unstealthy!

#4: The Koga is NOT a pirate! >_<;; Why do girls think The Koga is a pirate?!

#5: d20 ok, can understand it's a d20 game, but why so many d10s and d6s? What about d8s, d12s, d4s, and d3s? They need love to.

And #6: Gear. Sunder attempts are about the only time your gear breaking comes into place. Why? Most rpgs, hell, even DIABLO has enough brains to know weapons can't last forever, why not dnd? All weapon hit die would do is encourage more game balance because frankly with the current system, only a person with negative intelligence would choose a club over a quarterstaff, and both are free.

BTW- Rant thread- I hate mosquitos!!!! %#$@*&%#$@ damned blood-sucking freaks!!!! I change my 1 wish on the wish thread to entail the total eradication of the probiscus-packer's population!!!

I hate the fact that tonight instead of playing D&D we played Axis and Allies and I was just about to bring the crushing power of Japanese armor down upon the hapless Russians by channeling merchant ships from my freshly build industrial complex in Indonesia through Persia to attack Russia's weak underbelly when my opponents declared the game over as they were too tired to continue.

They called it a draw....I would have had them in another 8-12 hours....I had just built an industrial complex in India as well....

Dude, when you come over... please try some decent microbrewery beer/ale, and not the industrial swill made by Molson and Labatt. Give Big Rock, Sleeman's, Granville Island, etc. a shot... support the little guys who actually make brews that have distinctive flavours! And as for Canadian rock... pick up some of the Tea Party's early albums ("Edges of Twilight" being the best of them)!

Thanks for the heads up, Twiceborn...like I said, I'd love to try all those Canadian microbrews if I could get them. I live on the U.S.- Mexico border. (throwing distance is not a joke)

KOGA?!?! I was just thinkin' earlier today that I needed to post an "MIA: Koga" thread. Glad to hear from you. I felt bad about the things you had going on in life, so is it gettin' sunnier yet? I hope things are goin' well for you and that we can hear more from you.

On a side note, I remember your first posts and how much they annoyed me. I feel you have come far and would count myself lucky to game with you someday. Keep gaming and F***ing up the program.
You had me a bit worried.

Those aren't mosquitos. For you see, I have acquired the "aasimar favored soul" simgle mini; the same as what's your avatar. And voodoo pins. Bwahahahaha!

I took the Dungeons and Dragons personality quiz; it says I am a Chaotic Good Dwarf Fighter. I fooled them all!

I'll tell you what ticks me off.

4th of July--perfect fraggin day to open Pirates of the Caribbean II. But nooooooooooooo! I have to wait one more day! Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
And my wife dislikes Johnny Depp AND Orlando Bloom, AND gets antsy if a movie is over 2 hours long.
But...I took her to see the Lake House, so I gets mine. It wasn't too bad a movie actually; but for all intents and purposes I did do my Chick Flick duty. All apologies to anyone offended by 'chick,' however I think in the phrase Chick Flick it is more of a useful descriptive than a chauvinistic slur.
I also hate those Jack Chick comics. What a wanker.

My wife making me to tell everybody that she went to the POTC II movie with me. So I owes her BIG TIME.

This link up there got me to it.
I'm chaotic good...
And a dwarf...
I should probably try to answer the questions more like honester or something.

THIS time I tested my own link, so it should work.
I got less computer skills than Lilith's pinky nail clipping.

Lawful Neutral Half-orc Barbarian, I think that test sucks. I am not lawful beat out chaotic by like 2%, and Neutral beat out good by like 3%. I could believe Chaotic/Good Half-orc Barbarian but not lawful/neutral.

I feel ya on the computer skills also.

FH (CHAOTIC GOOD dammit!!)

Liberty's Edge

I think I'm more chaotic neutral. And I'm like 6'1", so I don't see the whole dwarf thing. Plus, I'm so charismatic, I should be a elf bard or something.
My wife is a neutral dwarf fighter.

You exhibit good taste all around, TwiceBorn. I'd throw in Alexander Keiths as a good Canadian beer too. Splendor Solis (sp?) by Tea Party is suitable for gaming background too.

...and, yay, I'm a NG Halfling cleric according to the test. ??? At our last gaming session we were talking about using one of these tests to determine what our next characters should be.

To uphold the rant theme, I'll throw in this:
- I don't like having to wait 10 days after a great session to continue with the next!
- I don't like playing hackeysack & kicking it onto the roof.
- I don't like wet, smelly ferrets.
- I don't like being disappointed by much anticipated CDs.

Hold up there, cowpoke...I think you're gettin' carried away.

Have a great week folks,
J-

You can have mine - I'm not into miniatures, so you're welcome to it. We can work something out where I order it and ship it to you. :D

Thanks Lilith, though it may be a bit problematic as I hail from England, but your offer was greatly appreciated. :D
