Big Jake
I've noticed that I've started to see people's avatar image in my mind when I see their names in various places. I guess I'm reading messgeboards too often.
Here's a list of the ones I most often equate, visually, from the person to their avatar:
Erik Mona. I've seen his picture here and there, but I think it's just a mask. I'm positive he looks just like the one-eyed creature he uses.
Amber Scott "Medesha". For the longest time, I imagined her to look like her Order of the Stick icon, but now I'm convinced she's a medusa hottie. From Canada, of course.
Richard Pett. I was recently reading something that he wrote in Dragon or Dungeon, and the image of a Xorn popped into my head. It took me a few minutes to figure out why.
Patrick Weekes. He was the first one I noticed to use the devil with a mustache thing. When I see other posts with the same avatar, I think about his two stories in Amazing Stories.
James Jacobs. He'll always be the scared little kobold desparately holding on to his kobold-sized short sword. The new fiendiesh T-Rex is just an illusion. ;)
ASEO. Triumphunt Downer with a defiant fist in the air. What more can you say about ASEO? Except... ASEO out.
There are a lot of posters that I recognize by their avatars as well, but for some reason these ones really stick out.

Is it really that strange?
I always considered myself fairly normal, and usually presume that I'm not the only one who thinks or feels a certain way.
As far as the avatar goes, people go through pages of pictures to find one that suits them... so there must be some kind of relationship between the person and their avatar... so it shouldn't be too strange to start associating a person with the picture they choose as their avatar.
Someone even suggested that the Paizo message board posters should wear name tags with their avatar and screen name at GenCon or something. I usually include "Big Jake" in email that I send to anyone at Paizo, thinking that it would help to be recognized from the boards.
I have to admit though, I pretty much picked the bulette (out the original bunch of pictures available) because I thought that it might not be chosen by lots of other people, then I could have an avatar that isn't associated with a bunch of other people.
I'm not sure how successful a choice it was, but I know that my at least my friends will skim through posts and stop when they see the bulette and read what I wrote. I don't know how many of "y'all" look at a bulette and think, "oh, yeah... Big Jake... he's the guy that..." and stop and look.
It works for me when I'm looking for a post by ASEO, delvesdeep, GGG, or some others as well when I do a search on the messageboards, I scroll down until I see the avatar I'm looking for.
Hmm... maybe I'm thinking about this way too much. I guess I'm a little strange like that.

People actually look for my stuff to read? I wonder if there's a market for that?---
I think that there where maybe 30-odd Kyle Hunter pieces there to choose from when I found the boards. At the time I was working on an adventure featuring an ancient dragon called (you guessed it) the Great Green God, and there wasn't anyone using it so.... And well the rest is, as they say, history. If they ever drop the Kyle's actual green dragon picture from the table of contents in Dungeon #127 (I think) I might seriously consider changing, but until then....

PS You know I would be seriously disappointed to find out that Yamo doesn't in someway resemble that subdued lizard guy. ;) On second thought I don't want to know; it's kinda like finding out what your favorite radio DJ looks like.
Crook'd Smile
"Two guys walk into a bar...which is kinda stupid, since the second guy should have seen it coming?"
"A guy walks into a psychiatrists office dressed in nothing but serran wrap. The psychiatrist goes, well I can see your nuts"
"Is this thing on?"
Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all week. Be sure to try the buffet ;-)
Ring of Five
My avatar has nothing to do with the Ring of Five, who are counterparts to the famed Circle of Eight in Greyhawk. It just so happens that there are no images of those five worthies, together-I guess they like it that way.
Anyway, I chose the Efreet because I was heavily into a Fire Giant/Efreeti megascenario based on the old 2Ed. Giantcraft book when I first went on these boards, and I like his expression-could be wise musings or idiotic puzzlement...or what to have for dinner.

(Which makes me wonder, where is my avatar's picture from in the first place?)
That's Belkar from Order of the Stick.

Koga: The Ninja Trick
The Koga has heard several studies that an avatar says alot about how we view ourselves from a subconscience level and that's why we choose our avatars and why they change overtime, why we react ceartain ways when they're gotten rid of or we don't have one at all, etc.. it's almost like roscharch. (By the way, The Koga took a roscarch test, he was perhaps one of the most sane people that psycholigist ever met, perhaps less sex driven then most males (or females) his age, but that's cause he's shelterd, but he seemed to give off the signs of a positive outlook on friends/family, a stable head on the shoulders, and a good freind. Course he has an unhealthy obsession with demons, but he already knew that.)
"What do you see here Koga?"
"A bunch of ectoplasimic minions chanting to summon some sortof goblin king who seems to be duel-wielding two athama and there's a sacrificed pig in back of him, probably used as a sacrifice because life is needed to created life, equivalent exchange.."
Perhaps this is why The Koga has chosen his soulknife avatar, soulknives are hellevu cool in concept, but when applied to actual gameplay, they suck, even fighters and sorcerers look at him like "psh, n00b.."
