I have a starting out character - Shaman 2/Sorcerer 1. Aside from leveling and stat increases, how else can this character increase the list of known spells?

I see this description in PRD but nebulous at the end.

Adding Spells to a Sorcerer's or Bard's Repertoire: A sorcerer or bard gains spells each time she attains a new level in her class and never gains spells any other way. When your sorcerer or bard gains a new level, consult Table: Bard Spells Known or Table: Sorcerer Spells Known to learn how many spells from the appropriate spell list she now knows. With permission from the GM, sorcerers and bards can also select the spells they gain from new and unusual spells that they come across while adventuring.

Scrolls, spellbooks, magic items? Anything?

Quests give no Prestige Points, no gold, and no XP. They're just extra encounters that provide a boon for PCs who go through them. -Mark Moreland

Hi All, Please help clarify what products give (or doesn't give) Prestige Points, Gold, and XP. I recently read something about modules like Masters of the Fallen Fortress previously did not give XP, but now it does. Now I'm totally confused. And how does replayability as a PC or as a GM. A table of sorts would really help.

Prestige Points, Gold, XP, Boon, [PC replay, GM replay credit, etc.]

Quest: no, no, no, yes, ...
Scenarios:
Modules:
Adventure Paths:
etc:

If you are a DM and have run PFS games, how many PC deaths have you had? Especially those who've run a lot of games.

How many TPKs?
How many almost-TPKs? How many survived?

Most curious how/why it happened...there's probably lots of great stories in this.

A PFS wizard gains more spells into his spellbook when:

  • he levels up
  • he scribes it from an npc during a scenario
  • he finds it in a scroll during a scenario
  • he buys a scroll from scenario chronicle
  • he shares his spellbook with other PFS PCs

Suppose the PFS wizard is 5th level with 20 Fame, and 6000gp, and wants a Fireball spell added to his spellbook -can he just buy it (with gold)? Please elaborate, cite and kindly give an example. Thank you.

I have found these two Add'l Resources but doesn't address the issue.

~Prologue~

You have been summoned to the office of Ambrus Valsin, at the Grand Lodge, in Absalom.... As your group assembles, Valsin looks up from a conversation he is having with another man.

“Ah, Falroun, these are the agents I was telling you about,” Ambrus Valsin says. “Pathfinders, welcome! May I introduce Count Falroun Matsanda of Alkenstar.” He gestures across his desk to a tall Garundi man with short black hair and goldrimmed spectacles.

Valsin’s guest stands and offers his hand in greeting as he speaks. “It is a true pleasure to meet you. I have purchased several antiquities from your Society in the past, and I have always wondered about the people who acquire such treasures. I must say, you do not disappoint!”

Valsin smiles at the compliment before continuing, “Agents, your next mission will take you to the island of Jalmeray. We’ve received reports that the ruins of a previously unknown temple have been found in a part of the Segang Jungle known as the Urapangi Lowlands. From its location, I think this temple could be one of those abandoned by the legendary Maharaja Khiben-Sald when he left Jalmeray over four thousand years ago. A temple untouched since Khiben-Sald’s time would be a major find for the Society. Of course, getting to Jalmeray on such short notice poses some difficulties.”

“I believe that’s where I come in,” the count interjects. “I’m arranging a hunting expedition to Jalmeray for myself and my new father-in-law, Baron Bomande Rudyahm. Bomande was quite the sportsman in his day. However, some years ago he was wounded during a tiger hunt in the Segang Jungle. He’s been grumbling about getting revenge on the beast for so long that I thought taking him on a trip back to Segang might earn me some credit with the old man.”

Ambrus Valsin continues: “Falroun has graciously offered to provide transport to and from Jalmeray and to outfit us with everything we need for our journey into the jungle. In exchange, you’re going to help his father-in-law, the baron, with this tiger hunt and make sure he gets the better of the beast this time around, as it were. You’ll have time to discuss the details of the hunt during your voyage to Jalmeray.”

“A voyage for which I must make some final arrangements,” adds Falroun, “I’m afraid I must depart. Once again, it is a pleasure to meet you. I look forward to our journey together.” With a nod, he exits the room. As the count’s footsteps recede down the hall, Ambrus Valsin’s smile fades from his face. “Ordinarily, the Society would cover the costs of an expedition like this. However, our resources are stretched thin at the moment thanks to our campaigns in Varisia and the Worldwound. Until such time as those ventures pay off, we’re going to have to rely on people like Count Matsanda to cover some of our operating expenses. I’m trusting you with the Society’s reputation on this mission. Fulfill our end of this bargain by helping the baron bag his tiger, and try to make nice with at least one of these nobles. Now, unless you have any questions about this temple, go get your affairs in order. Your ship sails in the morning.”

Late afternoon light pours in through the windows of the meeting room in Galt’s Woodsedge Lodge, and the smell of freshly baked pastries wafts in from the kitchen. Venture-Captain Eliza Petulengro is seated at the head of a polished mahogany table when you enter the room. Her back is to you as she stares at the flames of the warm fireplace. She clears her throat and speaks in a stern tone as she turns to greet you, “I’m glad to see that all of y-" Looking down at your impressive height, her mouth seems frozen as her eyes sweep your group from left to right, "......"

"...have made it here safely. My name is Eliza Petulengro. And what are the names of the agents who answered my call today?” Eliza listens to your introductions, staring with unnerving intensity at each as you speak.

I thought it would fun to run a game with all gripplis characters in Reaping What We Sow 8-06. Keeping it to 4 seats for the challenge and for the likelihood that not many players have the gripplis character boon to use. If slow sign-ups then first come and recruiting stays open until 4 seats reached; if larger response, then lottery after 24-48 hrs.

Fresh off your induction into the Pathfinder Society and the completion of your basic training within the organization, you find yourselves in the office of Ambrus Valsin, the Venture-Captain in charge of daily operations in and around the Grand Lodge. The efficient and straightforward chamberlain greets you curtly and motions for you to sit before jumping straight into your assignment.

“All right, Pathfinders, Listen up!" He says, looking you over like a military officer looking over green recruits. "I know you are new, and eager to make names for yourselves in the organization, but first we need to make sure you are up to snuff and won’t get yourself killed out there. I have a number of small assignments for you and your team, and it would be best if you could finish them before the day’s end." Ambrus takes a moment to size you up, a thoughtful look on his face.

“Every day we get some doe-eyed hopeful or some sniveling bootlicker willing to do anything to join up with the Pathfinders. Most of them are good kids, but not all of them have the salt to make it in a world like this. It’s rough out there and I’m not just talking about the ruins, tombs, and wilderness Pathfinders find themselves in on missions. We’ve got people who look down their noses at us, folks who think we squander our resources, and agents who want to take everything we have collected. This wealth of knowledge and these items of lore make us powerful. That said, since we are fractured and widespread, it’s difficult for that power to light on anything for too long. For every friend of the Society, there are two enemies." His warning given, he allows the gravity of his words to settle in before clearing his throat and getting back to the business at hand.

"Your first mission, to test your mettle and loyalties, sends you to meet a few people important to the Society living here in Absalom. These are other venture-captains or close allies of our organization, so follow their orders as you would mine. I’ve prepared a list tasks I want you to do. They’re not arranged in any particular order of importance, but I want them all completed as quickly as possible. Only report to me once you complete them all. Included in the envelope you hold in your hands is the list, complete with the name of your contact, and directions to the meeting location.”

Task
Chelish Paracountess Zarta Dralneen possesses an item loaned from the Vaults. Meet with her in her estate in the Ivy District and retrieve the item in her possession.

Task
Visit the offices of Osirian nobleman Dremdhet Salhar in the Wise Quarter. The Pathfinder Society needs to obtain permission to delve the Salhar ancestral vaults beneath Sothis. He has made a verbal agreement, and your visit makes it official. You will receive an official charter and detailed maps. Do not embarrass the Society in this matter.

Task
Ollysta Zadrian requested aid and is expecting you at the Temple of the Shining Star in the Ascendant Court. She needs someone to deliver a parcel of medicine and curatives to a needy orphanage and verify the character of the recipient.

Okay GMs, I'm stumped on this one.

1. dire rat successfully grapples keneticist
2. keneticist doesn't attempt to break or reverse grapple, instead tries to earth blast the dire rat

How is this resolved? AoO, Conc check, shooting into melee while yourself is in the one in melee?

He then excuses himself and leaves you to look over the information contained within the envelope. What you find is the following:

I'm looking for FOUR good players to run through The Confirmation.

This is a Tier 1-2 Scenario, which means it can be replayed with 1st level characters, though you can only run a 2nd level character through it once. Hopefully all characters will be Occult, so here's your chance before the Playtest ends to get an occult character created.

I plan to run this at a moderate pace, and am looking for those who can make 1-2 posts a day as it needs to close by the 25th (20 days). Please be sure you'd be committed to this timeline. Aiming to start as early as tonight.

My highest posting rate are weekdays 10am-6pm Pacific Time (GMT -7); one or two post at night.

If so, VC Jesse Davis is taking inputs from PBP players on PBP features. Go HERE

Lunia, the Silver Heaven, the lowest and first layer of the infinitely rising Mount Celestia is home to beautiful shining cities of white stone upon its shores. It is surrounded by an endless mercurial sea of holy water, the Silvery Sea; filled with sentient aquatic life forms, it also acts as an impenetrable barrier against Evil outsiders. The sky above is perpetually dark, filled with beautiful constellations of silver stars bright enough to illuminate the base of the seven layer mountain. Peace is the substance of Lunia. It is watched over by the archon Barachiel, the patron of trumpet archons, whose Citadel of Stars sits on the shores of the Sea. He is charged with defending Celestia from incursion, a task which, even on this lowest and most accessible layer, he rarely has to act upon. This layer is also the location of many godly realms, including Brihaspati's realm of Nectar of Life and Tyr's secondary realm of The Court .

One such realm is the expansive Shichi Fukujin. Also known as Seven Fortunes; it is home to seven representing deities: Hotei, Jurōjin, Fukurokuju, Bishamonten, Benzaiten, Daikokuten, Ebisu; whose domains encompass Abundance, Longevity, Happiness, Warriors, Knowledge, Wealth and Merchants.

Deep in the fabric of Hotei’s realm there is the village called Tumbling Pearl . Throughout the year, native birds would build their nests into the cliff face by first embedding seashells gathered from the waterfalls below. Once in a while, a shell containing a pearl would wash down the cliffside, dropping to the village below, bestowing luck and good fortune to the finder.

Nearby, among the shaded hills, you land upon the ground with a soft thud, just outside of the training circle.

"Careful, Arun", your mentor instructs, waving you in for another match, "Vestia is quick with that knee."

After clicking 'Edit This Campaign' leading to the edit screen, can the Campaign Name be changed after there are posts in Gameplay? If so, is there a limit to the number of times it can be changed.

I just learned that Lantern Lodge is no more (yes, laugh at me). So what do I do with my character? What of the faction trait that the PC had? Do they get grandfathered in?

Lastly, is there a link to a guide?

Probably obvious but just making sure. A PFS PC with 6 PP dies during a scenario. Even if points are spent to recover the body, he's still dead and remains dead, correct? Other PCs cannot use their PPs to raise him. Are there ways that I'm missing?

Is there any rule that prevents a 3rd level PFS from purchasing a 5th level spell scroll (say Slay Living or Cloudkill) with intent to Use Magic Device? (sorry if stupid question)

Hi all, could someone clarify the difference, if any, between the 2 covers of the Field Guide?

-cover with fighter against dragon

-cover with 3 PC's trying to get through a seal

Aside from body bags, any serious suggestions on protective Magic Items?
ANY 3.5 material will do, non-SRD, etc.

How about offensive items?

Age old question that I never cared about. I usually make characters that have 'character' at the sacrifice of stats. A friend nudged me, "why don't you play something that wins".

So I'm wondering, in building a 12th level non-spellslinger, what race/class/archtype combo gains the most number of General and Combat Feats (exclude Meta, Teamwork, etc)

Advice greatly appreciated!

Hi All,

Scenario: Imaging a 5' wide hallway. Hero is in square 1, two kobolds in square 3 and 4. Hero performs Overrun against CMD 12 and rolls 18. Assume Hero has no applicable feats. What happens?

What if Hero had rolled 13?

What if Hero had rolled 23?

I understand the 'always available' and the 'buy from chronicles sheet', but very confused on the Fame buying.

A PFS character with 13 Fame can buy up to 3000gp price tag with whatever money he has. IS every item in the PRD Magic Items available? Restrictions?

Is there a click by click tutorial on how to create a PbP campaign? Skip the recruiting part. How to add players, create Discussion and Game Play, etc.

I know this is the recruitment thread, it seems more appropriate to post here than game play thread - hopefully being read by PbP GMs on this site that can point my way.

For a PFS character.:

Scorpion Styles is the default monk bonus at first level, but with the intro of Ultimate Combat, are the other styles equally available as a bonus to pick? Please state the source of your answer if possible.

thanks!

Grand Lodge

1. Is there any restriction to multi-archtyping? Example, Phalanx Fighter at 1st, Acrobat at 2nd, Martial Artist at 3rd,...

2. How about in PFS organized play?
