I really don't care. A good story is a good story, regardless of anything else. The kicker is, no one should care. The problem is, everyone does. When a story is written, not one moment should be spent on race/sex/political considerations. It should just be a story, told without agenda. Just as we should read these stories, without our own agendas. but, by all means, let's just kick this horse until it's dead, and then keep right on going.
If your a melee class, and your party has an Alchemist, you might wanna invest in some fire insurance. :) Seriously, if you have an Alchemist, you KNOW you're gonna eat one now and then. Throw in a Critical Fumble Deck, and you can have some REAL fun! :)
How the blazes did I miss this thread!!! o.O So, as mentioned early on, Michelob Amber Bock and Warsteiner are some fine beers indeed. However, the finest of all is Caffrey's Irish Ale. No longer imported to the United States by those sales cretins at Coors, I was fortunate enough to have it as the "Official Beer of My Wedding". :) For you Canucks and Brits, you can still an enjoy this nectar of the gods, but due to Coors insistence on only producing Killian's (yucky!), I shall forever hate them. For reasons other than their crappy beers.

I find your generalities offensive. Being a union member, I can tell you for a fact there is no dead weight in the trade unions. If you don't produce each and every day you're gone. If you don't show up on time each and every day, you're gone. If you do manage to produce and show up, but your quality of work is sub-par, you're gone. I know for a fact that this is true in the Sheet Metal, Plumbers, Electricians, Operating Engineers, Ironworkers, Glaziers and even the Carpenters unions. These are the ones I interact with on a daily basis. These unions produce high quality, well trained workers year after year. As for other unions, I will reserve comment, as I have little first hand knowledge. Our union representatives work with our signatory contractors to develop training and sales programs that grow our market. If that means no raises or even pay cuts during lean years, then that's what we agree too. Unions should be about working together, companies AND workers to achieve greater rewards for everyone. Fair wages for an honest days work is and should be a two way street. Blanket statements are not called for here. Speak clearly and cite specifics. Otherwise you're just another empty windbag.
Hey guys, don't forget about the Book of the River Kingdoms by Jon Brazer Enterprises. It's a handy reference for both the gamemaster's and the players. For only $3, it's pretty cheap too.

You mean the system where one of the authors, Charles Ryan, plainly admitted in interviews in Dragon magazine that he didn't want people choosing weapons based on damage?? The system where reflection of actually statistics and capabilities of real world weapons was never a consideration? That system? Poor choice of an anchor for your argument.

I too have the map pack and love it! I also make use of "Book of the River Nations: Exploration and Kingdom Building" by Jon Brazer Enterprises. It's a handy compilation of the rules from the Kingmaker Campaign, and keeps players out of Rivers Run Red. It also has expanded events tables and optional rules. $3 for a pdf is pretty cheap! Oh, and the Kingmaker Deck, Gamemastery Item Cards. Gotta have my toys! :)
The post on the main blog made me realize I should post this and let everyone see the awesomeness! :) Recently my wife and I sat down and made Lego minis for our group. Mainly cause it seemed like our characters were dying faster than we could paint new minis. :-/ So, introducing.... Tilith - Elven Bard of no actually notoriety, other than in his own mind. Oh, and and recently ensorcelled and slain by a female Fey. Caradoc - Human Fighter trained in offensive sword and shield tactics. Recently ensorcelled and slain by a female Fey. Ingra - Dwarven Paladin of Angradd, somehow ensorcelled by a female Fey?! And then killed by said female Fey. Kazgrym - Dwarven Cleric of Angradd, hence the greataxe, and recently slain by a female Fey?! Lumpy - Earth Elemental, frequently summoned by Kazgrym, but not when facing the female Fey. (Lumpy insists he could have saved them all if he had been there.) And for those of you who would to see a picture, I introduce the Hero's of the Gnarlmarch

Name: Carradoc, Ingra, Tillith, Kazgrym
The Gory Details: 3 of 4 failed their saves against the "facinate" ablity. The cleric managed to save, and engaged in melee, but couldn't do enough damage quickly enough. Not only that, the only spells he had were all buff or damage spells, that wouldn't have had much effect anyways. T.P.K.!!!

Then generally speaking. No, you're wrong in every way. It's a great book, but not over the top. I just don't feel like talking about each point.

Sorry to say, there is nothing new under the sun... *cough* Neverwinter Nights *cough* With more functionality of course. While what you've proposed would be seriously awesome, it would, by no means, be revolutionary. Rather a fine idea, evolving, absorbing new technologies, becoming what you've envisioned. Though I do have one disagreement. Including the PDFs would be a bit like giving away the farm. Though, perhaps a PDF of the upcoming "Pathfinder Lite/Starter", might be a good way to get a "gateway" game into the hands of potential pen and paper players.
After a glorious beginning, the city of Three Rivers descended into anarchy on a bitterly cold Calistril (February) night. Angry rioting mobs sacked the castle, burned the town hall and chased the few remaining nobles and militia into the icy darkness. Distraught with the failure of his dream, Vitali Vladomirovich Medvyed, bastard son of Vladomir Medvyed, who had hoped to one day earn himself a title and become a true noble, skulked off to live out his life as a recluse, occasionally trading potions and alchemical wares. So, has anyone else failed? Our group started out really well and then went down in flames after a horribly bad string of Stability rolls, and having so few BP, that we couldn't recover. Of four characters, only one remains, who has since returned to Oleg's seeking new companions to forge on. This time, perhaps building the city in a different location is a good idea. Obviously the Stag Lord's keep is cursed... ;)
As a group, we carefully track everything except gold early on. However once the party gears up with handy haversacks and bags of holding, it's a moot point. As for gold, we've always had a convention, for the sack of simplicity, that if you have a large amount of gold, then it's in gems of various types. Spends the same as cash, and saves having to do the constant 50gp = 1lb calculations.
Let's see... our group consisted of; Caradoc - Human Fighter3 (uses Bastard sword 1 handed and a shield as an off handed weapon)
Spoiler: We were fully rested and attacked at night. Moved through the zombies and killed them all. While the party was searching/digging through the back door/hatch, the Alchemist ran around the wall with Expeditious Retreat, throwing Alchemist Fire at the guard towers. Party advanced through the basement and fought each encounter, managing to only have the Ranger drop when fighting the Stag Lord. Entire party was out of spells/potions and bombs. :)
Just a few quick points from the local redneck :) Cow - female bovine that has produced calves and/or provides milk for human consumption. Heifer - young female bovine that has yet to calve, usually less than 3 years old Steer - castrated male bovine, steers are raised and fed well to provide meat. Ox - castrated male bovine not slaughtered for meat, instead is kept for a draft animal Bull - Big Poppa. Does... various Big Poppa stuff... ;) generally, only the most promising young males are kept as bulls. maybe one in thirty or forty, depending on the lineage of the herd in question. Of course a lot of this changes from region to region, even county to county. What's all this mean in game terms? Based on a true breeding/milk cow at 10 gold, I'd say the following. Cows - 10g Base
So, there you have a redneck's view of cattle. Hope I've muddied the waters as much as possible. :)
Dragonborn3 wrote: Given the example above, wouldn't the damage be 1d8+3 since the bow and the arrow have bonuses? I'll have to look it up to confirm and give you a page number, but IIRC, you just use the highest of the two bonuses for To Hit and Damage. EDIT -- Ok, I found it on the Pathfinder SRD website. Click here --->Magic Weapons ... and scroll down to Ranged Weapons and Ammunition.
Allow me to start the flaming. O.O If the option of having ONE extra spell is going to break the game for you.... then you're doing it wrong. Seriously, the Sorcerer is a fantastic class with the bloodlines. If you think they are unplayable without this feat, then I must soundly and loudly disagree with you. It is NOT a make or break feature.

I'm gonna disagree with you a little on your last point. I grew up in the 70's in small, eastern Colorado farming towns (populations less than 2,500) and soccer was THE sport. Played it throughout elementary school and junior high. Was a pretty good goalie too! :) We played soccer at lunch, recess, and in leagues during the summer. To say that that these towns were redneck/white trash is an understatement. I was raised white trailer trash, so I know! ;) Yet soccer leagues are still a big deal. So I don't think it's an influx of foreign youth. Perhaps it's combination of kids that played a lot that have grown up, and our society's recently found "global awareness" (within that last 15-20 years) that has helped. Oh, and I didn't care much about the World Cup either. Though I would have tipped a Guiness in celebration if we had won. Or England for that matter... for strength! :D

Ummm... wow... My wife and I got our copies out of the first batch (pre-orders) and my 2 friends got them on the second round in October (I think), and all 4 have held up to weekly usage with little or no signs of wear besides a scuff or two. The only Pathfinder hardcover that is in even remotely "moderate" shape is the Campaign Setting and it's nearly 2 years old. I'd say you've gotten a couple of poor samples. Have you asked your local store or even Paizo for a replacement? NEVER hurts to ask. Oh, and yes, they are including errata in the newer editions. There's a couple of threads that have been started about this. Clearly mentioning which editions have how much errata.
No matter what combination of the above you decide to go with, add some roleplaying fun to each "use" of said points. Make your players describe in detail what they're characters are doing to pull off these, "feats of strength". (sorry, I've been watching a lot of Seinfeld lately). No description, no spending of the points. This should get them into a mode of more descriptive and maybe even some cooperative storytelling.

What I did was increase hit points by 20-30% and giving a +1 to saves and attack mods and such. It's a small increase, but it seemed to keep the players in check. Plus, goblins with 8-10 hit points REALLY threw them for a loop! ;)

Though I hate racism, I gotta ask a question. How exactly is it illegal? Why are the police investigating the hood thing at UCSD? Please don't get me wrong, if they find these guys, they deserve to get their ass beaten. So again, to be clear, I just wanna know what law was broken that calls for the police to investigate this.
