Karzoug Defeated

Tuesdasy, December 28, 2010

After almost three years of gaming every Wednesday evening, the six players in my weekly Pathfinder game finally defeated the Runelord Karzoug and saved Varisia from almost certain devastation. Not only did my group defeat a pesty group of goblins, solve the Skinsaw murders, recapture Fort Rannick, discover who was behind the stone giant uprisings, find the Runeforge and then Xin-Shalast, and finally defeat Karzoug and his minions, but they also transitioned from D&D 3.5 to the Pathfinder Beta and eventually to the Pathfinder RPG. One of my gamers, Jamie Fristrom, loved to tell his young daughter Sofi the tales we spun each week, and she got so excited by the tales that she had her father help her build LEGO versions of all the characters.

Our adventuring group, from left to right, starting in the front row:

Sevashti, Varisian sorceress played by Vic Wertz. Sevashti was the niece of Madame Mvashti in Sandpoint, and she plied the Harrow cards as well as she plied her spells.

Elena Foxglove, of the Absalom branch of the Foxgloves, rogue extraordinaire.

Marbury Foxglove, foppish cleric of Cayden Cailean, also of the Absalom Foxgloves.

Elsid, ranger, who was raised by the Shoanti when his parents were killed by giants. Blood brother to...

Karnack, Shoanti barbarian, who ended the campaign with two wives and two children, with his eyes firmly set on a third.

Jamek, half-orc druid, with his faithful tiger companion Furball (companion not pictured).

Bonus points if you can figure out what Jamek is holding in his left hand.

Now that Varisia is safe, our group is running Kingmaker and trying to establish a kingdom in the wilds of the Stolen Lands. Stay tuned for stories of Tazbo (halfling paladin of Desna), Sifroth (human cleric of Nethys), Asti and Tao (half-elven summoner and eidolon), Sabriel (elven witch), Ergum (dwarven inquisitor of Desna), and Anton (human magus Aldori Swordlord).

Awesome!

We're currently running through Rise of the Runelords at the moment in our fortnightly Pen and Paper game.
Sadly my halfling Barbarian Big John Lonnigan met his end while trying to battle Malfeshnekor a little earlier than we should have.
My new Magus, Ariadne deSernos isn't doing too badly so far though, so hopefully she'll be around for a while to come.

On another note:
I love that you have a Paladin of Desna in your new party. I had a Paladin of Desna as my very first PbP character and after the huge arguments on the Boards over whether or not it was legal to be a Paladin of a Deity who wasn't Lawful Good/Neutral I'm overjoyed to see you embracing it. :)
Also, Sabriel is one of my favourite character names, as you can see by the fact that my 4th PbP character was named Sabriel (amongst a number of others over the years). :D

Third wife. Though knowing Karnack, the third child wouldn't be far behind.

Btw, all of the children were the results of Plot Twist cards being used by other players. Poor Tom took it all in stride and made the wives a part of his character.

You know what makes this post really cool...LEGOS!

Jamek is holding the Hungry Decapitant is my guess.

Epic Effort, quite amazing.

Good luck on finishing Kingmaker within the next 5 years, considering it's a campaign made almost entirely on distractions you're in for the long haul :)

Is Jamek holding the Headless Lord's Head?

and the lego style of
knights of the round table came to mind at seeing this.

We're the pathfinders.....

Is that a Goblin Skull Bomb in Jamek's hand?

Congratulations to the group on their success! No casualties though?

I've been really tempted to start using Legos for our minis ... and this post makes me want to use them even more ;)

Grand Lodge

This is so bizarre! I seriously just asked for a bunch of Legos for Christmas just for this reason, and here they are! That's amazing! Good to see others had the same ideas.

I am excited to hear that it took three years. I was beginning to believe I ran the slowest RotRL campaign. ( year and a half and we are just in middle of Fortress of Stone Giants. ) It will be an exhuberant time for all, when we finish this set.

Darn, when I saw the photo I was expecting the announcement of a new Lego Pathfinder line--maybe with Lego versions of the iconics! I have been very tempted to drag out the old Lego box and make lego versions of my players' characters. It may well happen...

Don't despair. We're running at about the same rate of speed. Just passed two years playing (six-month interlude due to deployment) and the party is currently hunkered down outside Jorgenfist wondering why the gods think fortresses full of big monsters are so cool.

WOO HOOO! Awesome! That actually does make me feel lots better. :P thanks!

Not slow. We are actually still running Shackled City - almost finished, but I've got e-mails dating back to December of 2006 from this campaign.

Hey, another one! I was beginning to think I was the only Charter Superscriber out there.

I'm running my group through D1 Crown of the Kobold King.

Game one ran for only about four hours. They dealt with exactly two rooms and one hallway.

They're a bit disorganized :)

Hah! That's awesome that there were two Foxgloves in the party. I'm currently playing through RotRL as an Absalom Foxglove named Fabien. He's a sorcerer of the undead bloodline, and he's a brash, arrogant, womanizing jerk. Pretty fun character to play considering he's pretty much the polar opposite of my own personality.

My RotRL campaign will be 3 years if it makes it to March. The group is currently assaulting the pinnacle of avarice, so I maybe able to wrap them up next month I hope.

Great campaign to start out the AP line. After I read it, I knew I wanted to run it, and it was what finally got my group to switch from 1e AD&D to 3.5.

Jamek is holding in his left hand the ape head from Foxglove Manor!

He uses it as his battle cry!

... anyway that's what my group does.

Congrats on finishing.

We're 14 months in and my group just entered the Runeforge.

Council of Thieves is on deck for us then Soul Smuggler then Kingmaker. (Maybe)

We love that there's way more great content than we could get to.

Thanks!

Well, with the additions of "child legs", trolls (orcs), dwarves, skelotal horses, and tons of new weapons over the last few years, and the recent elf minifig in assortment 3, lego has tons of stuff to make RPGing work.

I haven't tried it in PF yet, but we used legos for our last Mekton Empire campaign, Legends of the Ancient World/ TFT and some cyberpunk too. (Some of the bionicle minis heads work great for odd monsters like lizardmen and so on.)

Might be worth using Legos for the next PF game....

EDIT - I'm thinking this should be a new thread... :)

http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/paizoPublishing/pathfinder/adventurePa th/kingmaker/meetTheHeroesOfTheGnarlmarchOneTinyCreatureSpoiler&page=1# 0

Recently my wife and I sat down and made Lego minis for our group. Mainly cause it seemed like our characters were dying faster than we could paint new minis. :-/

So, introducing....

Tilith - Elven Bard of no actually notoriety, other than in his own mind. Oh, and and recently ensorcelled and slain by a female Fey.

Caradoc - Human Fighter trained in offensive sword and shield tactics. Recently ensorcelled and slain by a female Fey.

Ingra - Dwarven Paladin of Angradd, somehow ensorcelled by a female Fey?! And then killed by said female Fey.

Kazgrym - Dwarven Cleric of Angradd, hence the greataxe, and recently slain by a female Fey?!

Lumpy - Earth Elemental, frequently summoned by Kazgrym, but not when facing the female Fey. (Lumpy insists he could have saved them all if he had been there.)

And for those of you who would prefer a picture, I introduce the Hero's of the Gnarlmarch

I actually do use lego for my d&d games. Over the years there has been quite a lot of fantasy stuff released, especially with all the movie ties ins like harry potter and prince of persia. I started using it about 4 years ago.

You can get all sorts of things like beards, wizard hats, cloaks, backpacks, horses, crossbows, pole arms, breast plates, visor helms etc. I even have several tiny little animals for familiars and stuff (Bat, snake, raven, parrot and pseudo-dragon). There is also thousands of heads with different faces to customise your character.

There is nothing better than being able to change your mini up when they switch weapons or something happens to them. For example my monk died in one campaign and then got returned as an intelligent undead monk. So I pulled off his head and put on a pale white skeleton head with glowing red eyes (the one you can see in the photo above).

If wotc or paizo and lego came together and did a line of actual rpg lego sets someone somewhere is going to make a lot of money.

That comment alone is full of awesomeness and win!!! :)

Please! Please! Please! (just in case Lisa checks this thread again) ;)

I'll give another +1 to Roy's suggestion.

Also, in case Lisa reads this lol: Lisa, if you had a regular blog about your Kingmaker or whatever game you run next, Id read it, lol.

My RotRL ran 6 weeks shy of 3 years, and that was with a slight rush at the end.

Have you tried using any of the props from Arealight, brickarms, Little Armory, or Brickforge? some of the weapons, armor, and accessories fr Lego are AMAZING.

Liberty's Edge

Hmmm... Well I may just have to jump on the bandwagon for the Legos. I used to have tons on them when I was a kid. Wonder if the parents kept any of them? Oh and yes, my RotRL campaign is also going very slow. We started back in September and next week we start cleaning up after the Swallowtail Festival. Needless to say, real life kinda took over the game for quite a while.
