A lot of good stuff here. I especially like the last two responses. And getting a personal response from James Jacobs is ALWAYS cool. JJ has always been my favorite Paizo personality cause his journey reminds me of mine (except I work in Finance instead of creative game design).

What I like about Paizo’s version of lycanthropy is that there is no upside for players. It’s a curse, not an enhancement. You don’t get 27 days of Uber character with 3 days of negative effects.

The good news is that Wrin was able to identify the issue; the bad news is I rolled it was already the full moon. So Wrin will have to lock the Anadi in a cage for the next 3 nights. Then every full moon time, the oracle will have to turn themselves in to Wrin for caging for 3 nights ala Oz from Season 3-4 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.at least until they can cast 4th level spells.

As to WHAT they become every full moon? I’m leaning towards a vicious spider/wolf/human hybrid with the worst of each creature and of course a CE rage!

Me too. I am disappointed in all this, but I saw the writing on the wall when Sutter, Schneider, Crystal, Lissa, and Amanda left.

I stopped most of my subs when PF switched to 2nd Edition (no interest), but I love Starfinder.

Like everyone else. Going to watch. I'd like to see Erik and JJ run the company.

I hear you and feel the same. I felt briefly this way when 3.5 switched to 4th and I stayed with 3.5. But then PF came out and I was happy.

This time around, I am sticking with Legacy PF; but I am also signed up for Starfinder, so I am at least getting a few products a month.

So it is weird. But my wallet (and my wife) are both ecstatic that I am sticking to my guns and not going 2nd Edition.

I wish Paizo continued success with their new direction.

We First Edition holdouts can still support each other and hang out in threads like this.

So sadly, I will be cancelling several of my subscriptions in the next couple of months.

Effective immediately, I need to cancel my Pathfinder Cards subscription (which has been inactive for the past couple of years anyway). Also please cancel my Player Companion subscription immediately, since it seems to be going on hiaturs anyway.

Please cancel my Pathfinder Module subscription after The Fall of Plaguestone ships.

Please cancel my Pathfinder Campaign Setting subscription after Druma: Profit and Prophecy.

Please cancel my Pathfinder Roleplaying Game subscription after the 2nd Edition Rulebook and 2nd Edition Bestiary ship. I want the books as part of a promise I made myself about owning the starting rulebooks for every iteration of the D&D rules. But beyond that, I have no plans to play 2nd Edition Pathfinder on a regular basis. Sticking to legacy Pathfinder.

Finally, and with the biggest regret of all; please cancel my Pathfinder Adventure Path subscription after Part 6 of Tyrant's Grasp ships.

Please note that I wish to keep my Starfinder AP subscription active and will be adding the Starfinder RPG subscription to my account.

It has been a great privilege to be one of tbe Adventure Path subscribers from the beginning. I love the PF ruleset and will always consider legacy Pathfinder to be my game of choice. It has been an honor to spend my coin on your product.

I do not cast aspersion to the need for the system to morph into a new Edition. It is the way of things. But I have enough PF materials to last the rest of my lifetime and this is a good time to start saving more money for retirement in a few years.

I will remain a loyal customer with Paizo as long as you continue to produce quality (1st Edition) Starfinder products as well.

Thanks for many years of great gaming, Paizo. Huzzah!

Since folks are saying what they're doing with subscriptions here...

I'm going to write a small novella on my background as a gamer and my subscription plan, apparently.

While I bought individual issues of Dungeon and Dragon from stores, I never subscribed. I didn't come to Paizo until the playtest for PF1e. I liked their general responsiveness to customers (which from where I am sitting is as good as it ever was; YMMV) and high production standards and decided to stick around.

I have always been a frugal gamer, since I started buying gaming books when I was 12 or so (would have been around 1988). Mainly I tend to buy core books and a rare few books of particular interest to me. I began GMing 3.x late in its era but never bought a module for it. I am the opposite of the "gotta catch'em all gamer" who just wants every book their favorite publisher makes. I only buy it if I REALLY feel it's worth my money and my time. (Disclaimer: my stating that I exist is not an effort to discount or devalue the type of customer who buys everything, and I realize that type of customer is the one most publishers is going to really want to appeal to. I am just noting where I stand here.)

Pathfinder to me was so interesting, so well written and produced, and I was so excited about running it (even more than its predecessor 3.x) I subscribed to the roleplaying game line. This is the ONLY system in 30 years I have ever purchased every main rulebook for (I was even lucky to be an independent contract editor for a couple later ones so I got those for free, but the vast majority I bought). I've also bought a few APs, though seldom was a subscriber (I am subscribing right now--these last two APs looked really good). I subscribed to maps for awhile (LOVED them but had to stop because I wasn't using them enough to justify buying them, especially as I began to play online more). I bought modules for the first time in my life. Paizo is the first and only game company I've bought a huge collection of books from--no, still not...

Kind of this. I will buy the Core Book and first Bestiary and then stick to Starfinder. Been gaming D&D ish stuff since Advanced D&D (over 40 years). Pathfinder Legacy Edition is the best system I have ever played. Got enough APs to last until I am cold in the ground (and then some).

You have to draw the line somewhere. But I understand why they have to change and wish them nothing but success. Don’t want to live in a Paizoless world.

And there is always Starfinder.

I'll just pop in here to post that my group will finish the playtest, but are still annoyed that I suspended all of our PF1 and SF games in the meantime.

However, we are leaning towards not adopting the rules unless they get a MAJOR overhaul; for many of the reasons previously mentioned here.

I will say that for both PC and monsters, spells are a nonfactor for us. I only see failed saves on either side maybe 10% of the time. Martial damage on the other hand is much more effective. As a person who prefers to play casters; this makes me sad.

You (and Lissa) will be missed here at Paizo. But I know we haven't heard the last of either of you. Godspeed.

Ultimately, this is Paizo's call. We all make mistakes. They are taking accountability for it, and plan to fix it the best they can. They are a business, they heard all sides of the situation and made their call.

I can only speak for myself, but they have earned my trust and my hard-earned money. This situation had not changed any of that.

I imagine this has been an extremely stressful, complicated situation with tons of meetings to discuss the best resolution to it. I applaud them for handling it with a measured and meaningful apology and proposed solution.

I am hoping we can all move on, accept their solution and keep enjoying their amazing creativity and products.

I for one, have still got their back. And I doubt that I am alone.

Things are really ugly in America right now, no matter which side of the schism you find yourself on. Paizo is a safe place to hang for me.

I thought that they should know that.

And to all the victims of child abuse here; you have my sincere sympathy. No child should ever have to experience that sort of evil.

Cool answers. I kind of figured I was an outlier. My wife often asks me how I can read the books like I do; to her they seem a lot like college textbooks.

I've been struggling to read the Inner Sea Races from cover to cover. I have never been that into races in D&D/Pathfinder; I was always more of a class guy.

But strangely, I feel guilty if I don't read EVERY word when I pick up one of their books. I feel like I have to justify the expense of spending so much money on these books. But like I said, I am like 4 sub shipments behind on my reading, and I worry that she is going ask me to cut down on the number of books that I order. But this is my addiction; I like my backlog.

I know there is no wrong way to read them; but maybe I need to allow myself to skim more....

For the most part you wouldn't need to convert that much. A few key NPCs and monsters at the end, use PF versions of the non-excluded monsters, you're good to go. If something's short on feats, KISS tosses on Toughness, the trio of saving throw feats and Improved Initiative (in that order, generally) and you're ready to go.

Having said all of that, I completely get where you're coming from.

One word: Herolab.

Conversion is a snap with this program. I use it for conversion, buffing and everything else.

I'm running COTCT and decided to make Davalus a 4/3/3 bard/rogue/kineticist. It was an awesome fight.

So you don't screw around until you have to, to pay the mortgage.

Finally getting back to this thread. I wanted to thank Todd Stewart (an extremely busy guy I imagine) for taking time to answer my question.

I just had a ton of fun showing my wife Todd's answer on this thread and then showing her the cover of Horsemen of the Apocalypse 3 and letting her see the Todd Stewart name on both! She was extremely impressed until I joked that Szuriel might lay waste to Turtleback Ferry where she just built a Temple to Sarenrae. She was NOT amused about that....

Carpenter is amazing. Love The Fog, The Thing, and Prince of Darkness. I also enjoy They Live, Christine, Ghosts of Mars, Big Trouble and Village of the Damned. And one of the best parts of Carpenter is the music in his movies. I love using The Thing soundtrack in my games!

I'll buy the three main books for DDN as I do for all iterations of D&D. But I've found my personal Mecca with Pathfinder and I have no desire to leave it. I imagine I will play Pathfinder until I am physically unable to roll dice.

With all the Ask threads being the in thing, I thought I'd try something new. I miss Steve Greer. I read his last posting from 2012 tonight, and I think he left feeling not so loved.

Well, I think he wrote some great gaming material. And I'd love to see him write some more. Sins of the Saviors is a fun dungeon crawl. Paizo obviously thought a lot of the guy, he was in on the first adventure path.

Total disagree here. Covenant is an acquired taste, but if you can get past the Covenant/Lena nastiness near the beginning of Lord Fouls Bane; I think Wes will be just fine. Some of the most "mature fantasy" you can ever read, and a good two decades before Game of Thrones.

You will find yourself screaming at the protagonist to believe; but it is the secondary characters that really carry the books (Bannor, Mhoram, Elena, Saltheart, etc.).

It is my favorite fantasy series by far. I heartily recommend these Chronicles.

I've seen him liberally giving tax-payer money to bail out major Corporate Monopolies, lay blame on anyone but himself and the government, and take credit for what hard-working Americans have built out of their own sweat and tears.

For this reason, I chose not to vote for Obama.

*Not meant as a racist criticism, but to refer to a collection of nations that follow a religion that professes destruction of "Infadels" (in other words, anyone who doesn't believe as they do. Thus, 9/11 and any number of other terrorist attacks on our country throughout our short history.)

And what you call catering, some of us call diplomacy. When you piss in the face of every country that isn't prodominently Christian; it tends to lower your credibility to the rest of the world. We all have to live on this rock together, no matter which higher powers we choose to worship. So we use a little tool called diplomacy.

Actually, you can also cheat solitaire on the computer. If you hold the Shift-Ctrl-Alt down while dealing a card; it deals one instead of three. So while not guaranteeing a win, it significantly increases your odds of winning.

For the record, I fudge rolls occasionally. I don't consider it cheating. And I let my players know up front that I do it; I don't tell them during games when I actually am. We play to have fun, not to let the dice ruin an evening's enjoyment.

What makes high level play unplayable? IMO? Bad players.

You have to have a social contract between your players and the GM. In may be an unspoken contract, but it needs to be there.

After awhile, "good" players realize that insta-win fights aren't fun, for either the players or the GM. So they intentionally try to avoid getting in the rut of using the same overpowered combos in every fight. Just because you have a killer combo in your arsenal as a PC, doesn't mean you should use it every fight ad nauseum.

My players know that it isn't just my responsibility to make the game fun. It is up to them as well. Used sparingly, killer combos can be awesome. But used in every fight, they know that I will have to bring the pain hammer down and use GM metaknowledge to "cheat" the system against them (which usually means TPK and endgame to the campaign).

Good players WANT the game to last. They want to keep getting more powerful, but they also want to be challenged. They KNOW that the game is rigged from the outset, and in their favor. But they want to work WITH their GM to make it a fun and challenging experience for EVERYONE.

Having said all that; I find the concept of E6 to sound downright annoying. But if it works for you; go for it. Just let me know that is the plan from the get-go, so I can find another campaign.....

My wife loves dice (as do I).

We have a fish bowl full of dice; it weighs about 10 pounds.

My wife keeps her personal dice in a custom made box; I keep mine in a Yankee Candle jar (the big one).
