So everywhere I look, it’s all doom and gloom with the Kingdom subsystem. Leveling is too slow, not enough ability score increases, skill checks are slanted against the players, etc. But we all know that complainers are always louder. What I want to know, are there folks out there that LIKE the rules as is? Are there any fans of running the rules without alteration? Does anyone have a positive view of the 2nd Edition Kingdom rules out of the box?
A lot of good stuff here. I especially like the last two responses. And getting a personal response from James Jacobs is ALWAYS cool. JJ has always been my favorite Paizo personality cause his journey reminds me of mine (except I work in Finance instead of creative game design). What I like about Paizo’s version of lycanthropy is that there is no upside for players. It’s a curse, not an enhancement. You don’t get 27 days of Uber character with 3 days of negative effects. The good news is that Wrin was able to identify the issue; the bad news is I rolled it was already the full moon. So Wrin will have to lock the Anadi in a cage for the next 3 nights. Then every full moon time, the oracle will have to turn themselves in to Wrin for caging for 3 nights ala Oz from Season 3-4 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.at least until they can cast 4th level spells. As to WHAT they become every full moon? I’m leaning towards a vicious spider/wolf/human hybrid with the worst of each creature and of course a CE rage!

Still wondering if this should be errata’d?

Thanks for the response. That absolutely helps. Our game will be starting with this chase in two weeks so I will let you know! Using Foundry for this campaign and loving it!
So I'm reading the Starship Chase Rules in SOM, and I am a bit confused as to using them for a race with the Wintermourn. Do I have both ships do the Obstacles and Chase Actions checks? And the winner is the one with more successes? Or does only the Oliphant make the checks and they win if the overall Chase Outcomes result in a Success? Also, what are the DCs for Chase actions? Based on APL?

Me too. I am disappointed in all this, but I saw the writing on the wall when Sutter, Schneider, Crystal, Lissa, and Amanda left. I stopped most of my subs when PF switched to 2nd Edition (no interest), but I love Starfinder. Like everyone else. Going to watch. I'd like to see Erik and JJ run the company.

I'm not trying to punish the players; I just want the dragon to be a reasonable threat. When you think of dragons, the breath weapon is their Apex ability. And more about my group; their power level is high (they are smart and well built). And until recently, there were 6 of them. Now there is 5. But the cleric is rocking a 38 AC, the rogue has a 30ish AC, and the witch casts Enervation with a DC of 28. Also the witch has a nasty hex that causes an attacker to take half the damage they deal. This group is walking through encounters like they're nothing. They don't need me to go easy on them...
Yeah, I probably should have posted this is a different subforum. No worries. But a little more information. This is book 3 of Giantslayer, and the party had plenty of foreshadowing that a large red dragon was in the house. And after killing the BBEG, they knew the dragon was next. So they camped out before the fight and were suitably prepped.
So if we assume saves DO work with PFE, breath weapons are useless against decently specced mid-level party. Number one: breath weapons don't really do 150 pts of damage on average. It's usually a third to half of that. So a dragon does say 50 to 75 points on a decent breathing. So we lose half to two thirds of the protection. But wait, a smartly built party (and my players always build their party's smartly); makes their saves and only takes 25 to 32 points of damage. So the protection will last 3 to 4 more breath attempts. Number two: breath weapon cool downs. 1 to 4 rounds. How long do your fights last in your games? Usually 3 to 7 rounds in mine, if I use max hp. That means maybe 3 breath attempts. Number three: they also use resist energy (of course). So on the off chance I got through the protection; they are still insulated from most of the damage. Number four: rogues. Evasion. Nuff said. So I think my way at least gives the breath weapon a shot at doing a little damage. Dragons are supposed to be scary. I wasn't looking for someone to tell me I was wrong. A DM can run their game any way they want; players have the ultimate veto after all. I just wondered if anyone else felt the same way.
So when you save on a dragon's breath, you take half damage. How about if you have Protection From Energy (of the dragon's breath)? Say you cast it at 10th level: 120 points. So if you save against a 150 point breath weapon; do only 75 points come off the spell? I always rule that the full damage against the spell is not reduced by a save. Any thoughts?
Can we get a ruling on the Level 9 and Level 14 versions of this weapon from page 59 of the AA4? Surely it’s a misprint that they do 25d8 and 46d12 respectively? Otherwise, it’s another great book. But this kind of damage for these level of weapons is insane. Any designer or developer feedback is welcome.
My group just did the first three events. They easily removed the insanity from the inevitable. Then they got slaughtered in the ship combat and their hull was down to zero in like 6 rounds. But they easily defeated the Jangly Man and his boarding party. Did anyone else feel like the Spawn and the Jangly Man did pitiful damage and were relatively easy to beat (especially after their overpowered performance in the ship combat)? The irony now, is my party is considering abandoning the Sunrise Maiden and commandeering the Singularity (after giving it a thorough cleaning)? This part of the adventure is so obviously Serenity-based (think Reaver ships). I will also mention that the second half of this AP really doesn't seem to be friendly to levelling up the partys' ship. There is definitely no time between mods 5 and 6; but honestly between mod 4 and 5 it is discouraged. I have a home rule that it takes a week of time to upgrade a ship a single tier. I gave the party the option to level their ship up from Tier 7 to 9, but seeing as that would take two weeks, it would give the Cultists THAT much more time to get to the Degenerator. I was going to basically scale up the encounters in mod 5 as a consequence of dallying and getting the ship upgraded. So my group decided to forgo the upgrade, which means their ship is stuck at Tier 7 for the remainder of the AP. Even if they chose to take the Singularity, it will also be stuck at Tier 7. Should make the remaining ship fights more fun for me, but also increases the chance of a TPK.
I hear you and feel the same. I felt briefly this way when 3.5 switched to 4th and I stayed with 3.5. But then PF came out and I was happy. This time around, I am sticking with Legacy PF; but I am also signed up for Starfinder, so I am at least getting a few products a month. So it is weird. But my wallet (and my wife) are both ecstatic that I am sticking to my guns and not going 2nd Edition. I wish Paizo continued success with their new direction. We First Edition holdouts can still support each other and hang out in threads like this. Rock on!
So discovered the fight(s) at the Stargazer are killer. Almost had a TPK when Event 5 happens after the Cult ambush. Fortunately for the rest of the party, the remaining monster decided the unconscious Envoy was more useful as in incubator than killing the rest of the group. Pretty rough end for the Envoy. But at least the group finally decided they need a tank.
Good Morning, So sadly, I will be cancelling several of my subscriptions in the next couple of months. Effective immediately, I need to cancel my Pathfinder Cards subscription (which has been inactive for the past couple of years anyway). Also please cancel my Player Companion subscription immediately, since it seems to be going on hiaturs anyway. Please cancel my Pathfinder Module subscription after The Fall of Plaguestone ships. Please cancel my Pathfinder Campaign Setting subscription after Druma: Profit and Prophecy. Please cancel my Pathfinder Roleplaying Game subscription after the 2nd Edition Rulebook and 2nd Edition Bestiary ship. I want the books as part of a promise I made myself about owning the starting rulebooks for every iteration of the D&D rules. But beyond that, I have no plans to play 2nd Edition Pathfinder on a regular basis. Sticking to legacy Pathfinder. Finally, and with the biggest regret of all; please cancel my Pathfinder Adventure Path subscription after Part 6 of Tyrant's Grasp ships. Please note that I wish to keep my Starfinder AP subscription active and will be adding the Starfinder RPG subscription to my account. It has been a great privilege to be one of tbe Adventure Path subscribers from the beginning. I love the PF ruleset and will always consider legacy Pathfinder to be my game of choice. It has been an honor to spend my coin on your product. I do not cast aspersion to the need for the system to morph into a new Edition. It is the way of things. But I have enough PF materials to last the rest of my lifetime and this is a good time to start saving more money for retirement in a few years. I will remain a loyal customer with Paizo as long as you continue to produce quality (1st Edition) Starfinder products as well. Thanks for many years of great gaming, Paizo. Huzzah!
So my Dead Suns group just got their ship, saw all the cargo and crew space, and their eyes filled with credits. So they instantly decided to take a page from Firefly, and start like looking for passengers and cargo for their trip to Castroval. I immediately began to grumble. Nothing I can think of the tell them no, but I’m worried it will unbalance the economy of the Adventure Path. But I also don’t want to railroad them and be a curmudgeon either. So I told them, they each get an extra 2000 credits for this initial 6 day trip. Any ideas on how to regulate this or nip it in the bud?

Kind of this. I will buy the Core Book and first Bestiary and then stick to Starfinder. Been gaming D&D ish stuff since Advanced D&D (over 40 years). Pathfinder Legacy Edition is the best system I have ever played. Got enough APs to last until I am cold in the ground (and then some). You have to draw the line somewhere. But I understand why they have to change and wish them nothing but success. Don’t want to live in a Paizoless world. And there is always Starfinder.
You know, we've been doing Assurance wrong this entire playtest (slaps hand on forehead). I've been letting them add their bonus in (like the old take 10 or 20 rule). Major eureka moment; unfortunately too late in the process to go back and fix, and only one scenario left. LOL. In the case of invisibility, yes, the Kraken could use the Seek action, but between losing actions while moving and then another action to seek; usually was out of actions before it could attack. And then, the invisible character got another turn and could move again. One of the characters was a monk with a speed of 55ft. The kraken was going back and forth, and not getting much of a chance to hit anything. Now I see why other folks are screaming the Assurance is too WEAK. Without adding your modifier; it would be silly to have at higher levels. Grrrrr.
Agree that this is the weakest of the Scenarios. And my players basically walked through it for two reasons. Logic and Assurance. Basically, the players knew going in that they needed to be skill focused, and they took me at my word. Two of them had Assurance with 4 skills and the other two had two skills at Assurance. When you pass EVERY skill check without ever rolling a die; it kind of makes a skill based adventure pointless. It might as well been a book I read to them, as there was no random element of failure at all. The only iffy part was the Kraken, who no one could hit, so they circumvented it (and Necerion) with invisibility. It was fun for them for one game; but it would get old for them pretty quick, and it was not really fun for me as the GM. Assurance needs to be limited somehow. Maybe you can only use it 3/day or only have it for two skills max? I also agree, that the party wasn't much of a sandbox. Only 4 NPC's of note, 3 of them in a basically restricted area; to interact with. And my party walked through the portal room, the water room and the mirror room (which I worried was a tpk, but most folks know better than walking in front of a mirror in a room full of them) with nary a sweat. Especially after the greatness that was "Heroes of Undarin," this was pretty much a let down. Oh well, one more scenario to go, and then my 3 campaigns that are on hold can start again. This was a fun diversion; but it is looking like I am going to be sticking with original PF and SF for the forseeable future. I love Paizo, but the first edition is still perfection for me.
I'll just pop in here to post that my group will finish the playtest, but are still annoyed that I suspended all of our PF1 and SF games in the meantime. However, we are leaning towards not adopting the rules unless they get a MAJOR overhaul; for many of the reasons previously mentioned here. I will say that for both PC and monsters, spells are a nonfactor for us. I only see failed saves on either side maybe 10% of the time. Martial damage on the other hand is much more effective. As a person who prefers to play casters; this makes me sad.

Still need an answer on this one. Any help would be appreciated.
So maybe I have missed something flipping through the module, gazetteer and Codex of Worlds; but what is the atmosphere on Istamak like? Are environmental suits required or can the characters walk around unprotected? The landing pad is described as "mostly open to the sky"; is there oxygen here? The kish seem to run around with archaic gear on, which specifically does not have environmental protection, so that points to breathable atmosphere. The razor grass stuff could definitely be problematic if atmosphere is an issue...
PMRC - Parents Music Resource Center. A group that tried shutting down music with mature themes back in the 80’s. Dr Who during the Tom Baker era got a lot of flak for being too intense, violent and dark. It did start out as a children’s show after all. I was referencing that this episode was quite dark and got the PMRC type viewers and censors riled up.
So I rewatched one of my favorite Tom Baker-era Doctor Who's last night: Pyramids of Mars. To me it has everything that made Tom Baker my favorite era of Doctor Who and my favorite Doctor. It's got some of the best death screams of all time (which drove all the PMRC-types crazy) and that creepy Sutekh/jackal head still gives me nightmares. Plus the beautiful Elizabeth Sladen, mummy robots and the Doctor committing arson to maintain the time line. Just wondering if this was on anyone else's favorite list and why? Erik and Vic, are you listening?
This also happened with the last Syrinscape product I ordered through Paizo. I get the hyperlinked "Serial Number: Click here to fetch serial number" but everytime I click it, the screen refreshes and I get the same link; the serial number never shows up. Very frustrating. On the previous order, the serial number eventually showed up. But this one is not cooperating at all. Is there an issue with Microsoft Edge?
Ultimately, this is Paizo's call. We all make mistakes. They are taking accountability for it, and plan to fix it the best they can. They are a business, they heard all sides of the situation and made their call. I can only speak for myself, but they have earned my trust and my hard-earned money. This situation had not changed any of that. I imagine this has been an extremely stressful, complicated situation with tons of meetings to discuss the best resolution to it. I applaud them for handling it with a measured and meaningful apology and proposed solution. I am hoping we can all move on, accept their solution and keep enjoying their amazing creativity and products. I for one, have still got their back. And I doubt that I am alone. Things are really ugly in America right now, no matter which side of the schism you find yourself on. Paizo is a safe place to hang for me. I thought that they should know that. And to all the victims of child abuse here; you have my sincere sympathy. No child should ever have to experience that sort of evil. Peace out.
Sad to read this, but happy for James. Reading this thread while listening to Hurricane by Thrice kind of hits you in the gut. I hope you pick up that bass again too, for old times sake and play some metal good sir. I'll never forget our back and forth in the 'Mona and Metal' thread I started all those years ago. You will always be the bass picking Paizo guy to me.
Does this need to be done in Chrome? It doesn't matter what class deck I choose; the Character Name pulldown is frozen on the "Select a character deck first" pane. And I cannot overwrite it. And it will NOT let me onto the next screen because I can't populate the pulldown. Can anyone help me get this to work? I am trying to enter an Ezren deck, if that matters...
