Brew, thanks for running another campaign. This will be the last game for Tarek. I think I will be retiring this character but I look forward to continuing the other campaign. I have lost sight of Tarek's story line that was being developed early on and I have lost interest in continuing that story and what direction I wanted to take him.

The outage did cause some delay but there was also a consistent delay between posts that sometimes were a week long. I forgot about the majority of the campaign goals halfway through the game. Hopefully, everyone will be more consistent with posting with the other campaign and with future games. This isn't one person's fault but I think we need to assess our commitment to game play and if we can't get posts out within 2 days then maybe it is best not to continue.

Silver Crusade

Thanks again! I think in this case, they are wishing Krampus on us. Have a wonderful holiday!

Silver Crusade

Thanks! A merry Christmas to everyone!

Silver Crusade

Happy Turkey Day!

Silver Crusade

boon: 1d20 ⇒ 7

Silver Crusade

Ok. I will look for posts to resume around the 14th. Good luck with the project at work.

Silver Crusade

Spoke with Caoilte and he said he is unable to log into Paizo. I guess botting him for now is fine but I don't know if he has any potions and if he would have consumed one after our last encounter.

Silver Crusade

I looked over the posting dates and it has been 25 days since we all went down the hole to this level. I know turtles are slow but this is moving like molasses on a winter night. :-)

Anything we can do to help move things along?

Silver Crusade

I sent out a text to the other guys but I haven't received a response. If the week is a stressful one then take it easy and don't feel pressured to get the game out this weekend if you are not ready. If it takes another week then I am ok with that. I look forward to getting started but I would much rather wait until you are able to enjoy GMing. I will try reaching out to the guys again.

Silver Crusade

Brew, where should we post character sheets since my character is not PFS approved? I can send you a .por version so you can load him into hero labs for initiative checks and encounters.

I did not want to list Takumi with my PFS characters unless it is ok to do so.

There are some classes that i feel don't fit into the classic fantasy style RPG setting.

It would be interesting to play a pulp fantasy/steampunk/Lovecraftian style of adventure. League of Extrodinary Gentlemen and Hellboy come to mind when thinking of that genre of gaming. I can see the use of alchemist, gunslinger, inquisitor or any of the occult classes be used.

Silver Crusade

I hate him already. Just joking! Looks like an interesting build. I will post some stats soon.

Silver Crusade

Gotcha! Since we are not hindered by the PFS rules then it will be a 1st level Fetchling Ninja and I will decide if I want to change my Nagaji's race at a later date before applying any Chronicles to the PFS character. I will send out a .por character within the week.

Silver Crusade

When we make changes to a pfs character, before reaching second level, what restrictions are there? Are we allowed to do a complete reboot or are we limited to only changes to the character's equipment, stats and feats?

I am considering whether I want to change the race of my nagaji to human. Disguise may play a major factor for the ninja class and I am not sure how easy it will be to change a nagaji's appearance.

Silver Crusade

Brew, I will be playing a first level Nagaji ninja. I have 2 Chronicles listed under that character and he did receive a way finder as part of one scenario. Are the items and gold aquired by that character usable in the new adventure?

I was considering tweaking the character since he has not advanced past first level. I may also purchase a few items before the adventure starts.

Silver Crusade

Thanks Brew for running another scenario. I am looking forward to the next. I think things will run smoother for me now that I am getting into pbp after taking our break.

Silver Crusade

I will be taking the nagaji ninja

Silver Crusade

I will look at either my Nagaji Ninja or Aasimar cleric. Depends on what everyone else is interested in playing and what is needed in the party. I will make a few adjustments to my Ninja since he has not progressed past first level regardless if he is used in the next adventure.

Silver Crusade

I created a cleric if it is needed but I am also considering trying out a unique class like ninja, Slayer or summoner. The cleric is beefed up on domain abilities and channeling. He may need approval from Brew but everything checks out through hero labs.

Silver Crusade

Thanks for the info. Are you saying the characters we play won't be PFS legal but you can apply credit for finishing the module to advance a PFS character? If so, that is fine with me. I will think about what to play and shoot you a PDF.

Silver Crusade

Brew, can you share any info about the new campaign you are planning on running? Were you wanting farm fresh level 1 characters to start in that campaign? Are there any classes that are recommended? I mentioned before that I have a 1st level nagaji ninja with 2 xp but I would also be happy to create something new.I am thinking about a few different classes but I was curious as to what our characters will be getting into before making an official decision. Thanks!

Silver Crusade

I understand Brew. You never know when life is going to give you a kick in the pants. Always remember, "It's better to burn out than to fade away!"

Hope all goes well and you get some good downtime. Send out an email if you are looking to get back into GMing and need some victims.

WRIST SHEATH:

Price 1 gp; Weight 1 lb.
This is a sheath designed to be strapped to your forearm and hidden under a long sleeve. The sheath can hold one forearm-length item, such as a dagger, dart, or wand, or up to five arrows or crossbow bolts. As a move action, you can bend your wrist to cause some or all of these items to drop into your hand (provoking attacks of opportunity as normal). You have a +2 bonus on Sleight of Hand checks made to oppose the Perception check of someone observing or frisking you to determine items in the sheath. You can only wear one wrist sheath per arm.

Shuriken:

Price 1 GP (5)
Type exotic
A shuriken is a small piece of metal with sharpened edges, designed for throwing. A shuriken can't be used as a melee weapon. Although they are thrown weapons, shuriken are treated as ammunition for the purposes of drawing them and crafting masterwork or otherwise special versions of them, and of what happens to them after they are thrown.

I assume it is legal to have 1 shuriken per wrist sheath but is it possible to carry up to five? The description states you can carry up to 5 arrows or bolts. Is it because they are narrow or because they are considered ammunition and not a melee weapon? Since shurikens are treated as ammunition and they are not large, would you be able to carry at least 5?

Silver Crusade

I know armor spikes are listed as light weapons but it does not state there are any restrictions on where they can be placed.

If a grappler has spiked armor then they are attempting to pull their target into a spike to inflict extra damage.

If my character has spiked armor and someone tries to grapple him then how do the spikes come into play?

Do I get a free attack with a spike, if grappled, or should I get a bonus to my CMD to prevent being grappled?

It seems spikes should provide just as much of a defensive benefit as they do offensive since they are attached to a passive form of defense, unlike a spike shield.

Silver Crusade

Useless? Hope your drinking hand was still functional? :-)

Silver Crusade

I was searching through various weapon types, to pick a bludgeoning secondary weapon, and came across blunt arrows. They may be a useful addition to an archer's arsenal.

Arrow, Blunt: These arrows have rounded wooden tips. They deal bludgeoning damage rather than piercing damage. An archer can use a blunt arrow to deal nonlethal damage (at the normal –4 attack penalty for using a lethal weapon to deal nonlethal damage).

A few others:
Arrow, Flight: These arrows have light shafts and special fletchings to give them greater range. A flight arrow's range increment is 20 feet greater with longbows, 10 feet greater with shortbows. They deal damage as if one size category smaller.

Arrow, Smoke: This arrow is actually a specially-shaped smokestick that can be fired from a bow. It trails smoke as it flies, and creates a 5-foot cube of smoke where it strikes. It otherwise functions like a normal arrow in terms of damage, range, and so on.

Silver Crusade

Just checking on how long I can expect to be making lousy d20 rolls

Test: 10d20 ⇒ (4, 1, 5, 18, 16, 6, 17, 13, 8, 20) = 108

It seems an even split between good and bad. I expect to roll a hit about the same time someone kills it before Tarek's action happens.

Silver Crusade

I dunno. I have been enjoying bugging Brew about what it costs to buy everything :-)

I will definitely check it out and thanks for the reminder. Any books you recommend?

Silver Crusade

I am a little slow on responding to this because I had issues viewing the drop box chronicle sheet until now. I want to be sure that I have this correct. On my sheet it lists the following:

Embeth Hound: The Embeth Travelers gitf you with a loyal Embeth hound at no cost. An Embeth hound
is a riding dog who receives a +4 racial bonus on all Climb and Swim checks in place of a riding dog’s
typical +4 racial bonus on Acrobatic checks while jumping. An Embeth hound is trained for combat and
additionally knows the Track trick. If the Embeth hound dies, cross this boon off your Chronicle sheet.
Henbane’s Token: Inquisitor Henbane leaves you with a token of her favor. This enchanted flower from
a henbane plant allows its wearer to step outside of the flow of time. As a purely mental move action,
you can destroy the flower to disappear completely one round. While you are out of time, you cannot be
affected by any new spells or effects, and any ongoing durations of spells or effects affecting you do not
continue to progress. You also cannot take any actions while out of time. At the beginning of your next
turn after disappearing from time, you reappear in the same square you left (or the closest open space if
it is occupied). Once you expend the token’s power, cross this boon off your Chronicle sheet.
Touched by Time: You have passed through time-distorting portals in Uringen, and residual magic from
that experience clings to you. You may cast either haste or slow as a spell-like ability, using your character
level as your caster level and Charisma as your key ability score. When you use this boon, cross it off your
Chronicle sheet.

Did we receive these boons or were they they boons you could select from if we won it during a game day?

Silver Crusade

I don't know how much cash Tarek has after his recent purchase but I think we could use a wand of healing. When we had Sylorin in our group, I did not see the use in having 2 healers and modified Tarek to be more combat oriented. Tarek has very limited divine spell casting and not enough healing to get the party out of a jam. I have a few scrolls and may buy more but potions or a wand would be good to have in our personal inventory.

Silver Crusade

I look forward to the challenge

Silver Crusade

I am open for either but then again that response does not help in making a decision between the two. I don't know how much prep time is needed to work up a new mod and don't want to dump more work on Brew. I am fine with continuing with our current mod. Maybe we can set a new deadline to continue? If we can get 2 more people that would be great. If we don't get a response in time, then we can continue with the players who have signed up.

I know you don't want to reveal too much about a mod but if we are low on people could you give a little insight on what will aid us in succeeding? I know you can't give specifics but it would be good to know if we need more healing, protective, offensive or defensive powers. There may be purchases we can make to aid in our survival.

Silver Crusade

I am having issues viewing the pdf in drop box. I wanted to upgrade my weapon to +1 and possibly purchase a silver shortsword. I think the sword will cost 2k to upgrade since it is masterwork. Is the cost of a silver weapon twice the cost of a normal one or is it more?

Silver Crusade

I will be looking to make a few purchases. I will have to check out what weapon upgrades will cost and see if there is any cash leftover for other items.

Silver Crusade

I have enjoyed our games and Brew has done a fine job GMing. My only issue has been the formatt and some content of the mods. Sometimes they feel a little like a pick a path novel. You can make choices but really have little control on how the story/game turns out. I have been disappointed with the puzzles in the campaigns. I feel some of them make no logical sense and are only created to make things difficult and confusing and not really challenging. When things don't seem logical are the moments when I start to lose interest. There have been a few mods that had puzzle/obstacles that defied logic to gain access to an area. If we can avoid mods that have those kind of puzzles then I know my interest level will remain.

I will try to take a peek at a few and make some suggestions. Thanks again and look forward to gaming in the new year.

Silver Crusade

Thanks Brew for running another campaign and congrats on earning a star. I hope everyone has a great holiday and I look forward to our next adventure

Silver Crusade

Was anyone considering doing anything with the alts for the new game day?

Silver Crusade

Are we still on track with the kickoff starting on Saturday. Any thoughts on if it will be a morning or evening Post? I will try to check frequently during the day if unsure.

Silver Crusade

OK. Thanks for the input. I am just trying to get an understanding of how useful certain abilities are. Sometimes the language in the descriptions can get confusing and nothing is worse than wasting valuable game time trying to argue a point. Very few players or GMs have all the answers to every situation. Thanks for sharing your viewpoints.

Silver Crusade

Mysterious Stranger, I understand what your are saying but according to your response then it should be possible to blind a sandman by throwing sand in his eyes.

I just thought there is a difference between damage resistance and elemental/energy resitance. I can see if you are hit by a weapon that can trip you, it doesn't mean that if you resisted the damage of the weapon that you are immune to the trip effects.

I was unsure of what was causing the blindness. If the description did not say it was acidic then I would not question it. The description does not tell much about the spittle other than being acidic. It does not say it is sticky, gooey, thick or anything that would have me believe that is anything but an acidic viscous liquid that can be spit out. It just seems odd that if you have had complete immunity to acid that it would still cause blindness to such an individual.

I agree that the attack does not say it can be resisted but I thought something was being implied by using the acid descriptor

Silver Crusade

I have a question about acid resistance and how, if at all, it can be applied to resist attacks that do no damage.

I have a character with acid resistance 5. He was attacked by a monster using a spittle attack:

Spittle (Ex) Each round as a free action, a gibbering mouther can emit a stream of acidic spittle at one target within 30 feet. On a successful attack, the target is blinded for 1d4 rounds unless he succeeds on a DC 18 Fortitude save. The save DC is Constitution-based.

What is causing the blindness? It specifically states the spittle is acidic but are we to assume there are other properties to the spittle that cause the blindness?

I was thinking it was similar to being shot in the eye with lemon juice. It causes no physical damage but the acid in the lemon would cause a lot of pain to your eye and prevent you from seeing until the acids were flushed out or diluted enough to clear one's vison.

If I have a character who can resist 5 points of physical acid damage, would such an attack still cause blindness? I am thinking the individual is immune to any property of acid that causes no physical damage.

Is this reading to much into the ability or does such a thought have sound reasoning to support such a theory? If it is then can we assume that any type of energy/elemental resistance make those individuals immune to lesser properties of those attacks?

Silver Crusade

Thanks for the replies and info. I will discuss this new information with my GM. I can see where the spell may not work, given certain situations, but it is definitely worth keeping

Silver Crusade

I have searched over the forums and can not find an acceptable answer to my question so I thought I would post here. If someone knows of another link that speaks of this then please let me know.

I used the spell in a campaign and it worked but the mechanics were a bit confusing. If my character survives, I am wondering if the spell is worth taking in the future.

The GM ruled correctly by stating that any spell cast in combat, while you have taken damage, requires a concentration check. My confusion is what should the DC be? The spell can not be cast unless you have taken damage so there is no circumstance where this spell will not require a Concentration check. I find that a bit odd but it is how it is stated. I don't think any other spell is written that way, that there is now way to avoid such a check. According to the rules, we know this:

If you take damage while trying to cast a spell, you must make a concentration check with a DC equal to 10 + the damage taken + the level of the spell you're casting. If you fail the check, you lose the spell without effect. The interrupting event strikes during spellcasting if it comes between the time you started and the time you complete a spell

More than likely the paladin will be taking a hefty amount of damage to reduce them to this state, but not always.

The spell states that it is not triggered until the Paladin is reduced to 0 or fewer HP. The instant before you drop below 0 the spell is triggered.

My question is what is considered the amount of damage taken? Is it the entire amount of damage or just the damage after the spell is triggered?

Let us say the Paladin has 10 hp left. He takes a hit for 15. As he is taking damage, the spell is not triggered until just before 0. When the spell is cast, technically, the last 5 hp of damage are then applied. Should the concentration check be 10 + level of spell + 5 for a toal of 16 or should it be 10 + level of spell +15 for a concentration check of 26?

In my opinion the paladin is not casting the spell until after a certain amount of damage is taken, not during. This spell does not work like other spells so should we consider an adjustment to the rules to allow for this? The bold ruling above clearly states: The interrupting event strikes during spellcasting if it comes between the time you started and the time you complete a spell If the the time between start and finish of the spell damage taken was only 5 hp then I think only 5 points should be added to the check.

I at first argued that the damage of the strike technically came before the spell was cast because the die was rolled and damage was applied to determine if the spell would even trigger. I could see where the DC should only be an 11 according to the wording of when you make a concentration check. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Silver Crusade

I think you finally made it to the right place. Please pick up your name tag at the front desk. :-)

Silver Crusade

Do we have an official start date for the new scenario?

Silver Crusade

Now that we are all the same level, are we looking at this scenario to be a more difficult tier?

Silver Crusade

Don't forget to log into the new Brew campaign. Had a few issues myself but all should be good now.

Silver Crusade

posted in the new campaign. The new campaign did not show up in my gameplay list until after I posted in the gameplay section. All is good now. If everyone clicks the link above and goes to the recruitment section to dot, also try dotting the gameplay section.

Silver Crusade

My error. Original posts were in the recruitment thread
