Ironically, in the time a person has spent reading and posting throughout this entire thread, they could have probably retroactively applied an ITS to most of their characters.
In any case, it's apparently moot for me now, as she's decided to keep the magus as-is and have a secondary (hopefully simpler) PC to play every once in a while.
Important info for everyone that:
- wants a form fillable ITS
- wants specific cosmetic changes done to the ITS
- wants to have a condensed, expanded, etc ITS
The use of an ITS will become mandatory in Season 5, but the use of the Paizo designed and released ITS will not be mandatory. You are free to design and use your own ITS provided they list the same information in relatively the same format/layout.
Ooh! I should make a reference sheet for sunder, and keep it by scenarios that I'm running. Then when someone sunders something, I go "Ooh, look. I conveniently prepped a sunder reference sheet for this scenario. You know. For no particular reason." and watch the players go back in fear a little.
If a PC sunders a magic weapon or armor, is it still available on the Chronicle Sheet?
If a GM sunders a PC's expensive magic weapon and/or armor, do you think that it may have a large effect on character wealth? And do you think that the GM will be safe leaving the store/con?
I've only once destroyed a piece of PCs gear. And I didn't destroy it. I took it. It was a suit of mithral full plate of speed, and I felt quite terrible afterwards. The player was understanding due to the tactics in the scenario, but I still felt dirty afterwards.
I can count on one hand the number of scenarios that call for PC item destruction/removal to occur. They're presented specifically in the tactics and do make the encounters feel more risky. It's hard to play so boldly when the enemy is trying to break that shiny new piece of gear you got. And it puts the GM in a difficult situation if their NPC succeeds. Watch as the entire table criticizes the GM for their tactics, and demands to see where it's listed in the scenario. It sucks.
I don't like sundering PCs gear, but if the tactics call for it, I'll do it.
If PCs do it, I sigh, but I'm happy they're not a summoning down waves of cyclopses to grapple/pin/coup-de-grace, taking a dozen attacks with double barreled pistols, or ill-omen -> misfortune cackling. Sundering is a tedious mechanic to deal with, but it's not even close to being near the top of the list in PFS.
Ideally, the ITS should replace the items purchased/sold section at the bottom of chronicles, and allow for tracking of consumables on the ITS instead of on individual character sheets. That's it. If it just replaces other paperwork, puts everything all in one place that's easy to use, and doesn't create redundant paperwork, then it's a good thing. I'm still waiting to see for sure whether that's the case.
My problem is this is only exacerbating an issue that may seem small and simple to the Paizo employees who run Society, but the GMs are goin g to see a real problem. Ink is not exactly cheap, and with the rate I use it for projects and other paperwork for the Marines, it's not something I can be replacing every week (that's an exaggeration, but it's common for me to replace it). Seven-ish pages may not seem like much, but consider also that we are printing out the physical copy of the scenario/module as well, as well as seven-ish copies of the Chronicle sheets as well.
I think that, like a character sheet, the ITS is something that I'll be expecting my players to bring with them to game days.
I might have a handful of copies for people that haven't heard the news in the first few weeks, but after that, it's not the GM's responsibility to provide the player with the correct documentation. Especially since it's available as a free download online.
The use of the word "determined" is odd! If I roll a 1 on an attack, the result has been determined. Though, I'm sure every GM out there would allow the reroll regardless ;).
True! Everyone at the table does know the result, but not officially until the GM confirms it (GM get's the final say, and all that).
Given that, think of the order of operations like this.
1. Roll a die
2. Do the math
3. Tell the GM
4. Get your result.
Given that as the order of operations, as long as you shout out "Wait!! I want to reroll!" before step 4 -- you're good.
As a way of rewarding players who show their support
for the Pathfinder Society Organized Play campaign by
purchasing and wearing special shirts featuring campaign
insignia, faction logos, or Pathfinder branding, a player
wearing any of the shirts listed below during a Pathfinder
Society event may reroll one d20 roll during the course of
that scenario. This reroll must happen before the original
result is determined and the player must use the reroll
result, even if it is lower. Game Masters are also invited to
wear Pathfinder Society Organized Play shirts, but gain no
additional benefits other than supporting Pathfinder.
The following Pathfinder Society Organized Play shirts
are currently available.
• Andoran faction shirt
• Cheliax faction shirt
• Osirion faction shirt
• Qadira faction shirt
• Taldor faction shirt
• Venture-Captain polo
• Venture-Lieutenant polo
• Year of the Ruby Phoenix
• Year of the Risen Rune shirt
• Year of the Demon shirt
• Paizo golem shirt
• Pathfinder goblin with d20 shirt
• Pathfinder goblin song shirts (both color and black and white)
• Pathfinder goblin with red gem shirt
• Gray Maiden shirt
• Pathfinder Society-exclusive volunteer shirt
• Goblinworks Kickstarter shirt
• Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook shirt
These shirts are available for purchase in a variety of
sizes at paizo.com/pathfindersociety.
If a player is using a physical copy (not a PDF, printout,
or photocopy) of the Pathfinder RPG Player Character Folio,
he receives a free reroll. No player may receive more than
one free reroll per session.
Additionally, when a player uses a free reroll, she may
present her Pathfinder Society membership card and
receive an additional +1 for every GM star she has earned,
for a maximum of a +5.
Finally, if a player receives a Campaign Service Award coin
for going above and beyond when giving back to Pathfinder
Society, she receives a free reroll once per scenario upon
displaying the coin. She may also change her Pathfinder
Society number to the three-digit number found on the coin.
If it is a genuine inability to get a few printed sheets, work with your local VCs and/or VLs. Most of them won't mind printing a couple of copies off. And if they do, I will reimburse them the $0.05 it cost to print the sheets off
My cleric has 275 hit points without needing to rebuild...
Speculative math, ho!
Hm, maybe 16 CON to start (dwarven cleric?), plus FCB and Toughness, and let's assume a +2 CON item. That gives us 11 HP per level, plus 3 more at 1st.
Nope, that puts him into epic levels.
So, maybe it's a +4 CON item? 12 HP per level is still epic.
Maybe 18 CON to start and a +6 belt? That's 14 HP per level, and still puts him past 19th level.
Maybe also a pair of stat bumps, for 15/lvl? That's about 18th level.
Flat HP increasers.
Toughness (+1 hp/hd)
Tribal Scars (+6 hp at level 1)
Favored Class (+1 hp/hd)
Con.
Base 22 (from a neat boon)
25 (+3 from level increases at 4/8/12)
31 (+6 when raging, greater rage)
33 (+2 when raging, raging vitality)
34 (+1 from rivalry's end)
40 (+6 con belt)
44 (+4 con for a minute from a once per day series of stacking boons)
44 con = +17 con modifier
HD = d12
HP formula pre retraining: (20+con)+[(lvl-1)(9+con)]
Con of 44, level 12 snap shot: 323 HP
HP formula with HP retrain: (20+con)+[(lvl-1)(14+con)]
Con of 44, level 12 snap shot: 378 HP
Oh hey. Just had a thought: how will online players handle needing GM signoffs on their tracking sheets?
Another reason a form-fillable PDF would be nice.
Otherwise: Print it out, fill it out, scan it in, transfer it to the GM somehow so he can print it out, sign it and scan it back in to transfer it back to you.
Much like Chronicles for on-line games, there has to be a better way.
The only exception to this would be an brownie, imp, lyrakien azata, or quasit familiar gained with the Improved Familiar feat. One could reasonably face either of these wielding a wand or wearing a circlet of persuasion in combat, and after investing a feat to gain their service, they are not limited by the same restrictions as normal bonded creatures like animals
This sort of text no longer appears.
Was this is a clerical blunder? Or can imps still use wands?
I have created a one-page form fillable pdf. It can be opened in a full version of Acrobat or in Acrobat Reader.
If you have a full version of Acrobat, you can save the form and fill it in later, but if you have only Reader, you cannot save the data, though you can print it to pdf.
Who at paizo would I need to ask if it is okay to give this away for free?
Mike, would I need to run it by the Decemvirate (Triumvirate?) to make sure it is okay to show up at a table with this?
Am I completely whacked and should just not worry about it?
As long as the sheet is system neutral (Don't put the pathfinder or PFS logo on it), you can link it here as a generic "form-fillable tracking sheet."
I'm sure that the online community and others would appreciate the alternative.
How detailed are people expected to be for the inventory tracking sheet?
In the past, I have often put in lines like: Misc. adventuring gear: 113 gp. This to cover bags of powder, replacement silk rope, pitons, bags of caltrops, torches, etc..
Would that still be acceptable, or would I need to record everything, including the 2 cp purchases?
I've seen people on these forums complain that they think players are cheating if they just happen to have the perfect item for a particular situation, so they'll ask to see the chronicle sheet where the person bought it. I've abbreviated stuff in the past, too, usually along the lines of "6 scrolls of level 1 spells - 150 gp", then list out the individual scrolls on my character sheet. But I'm thinking this is a good time to start being more detailed, since the Inventory Tracking Sheet actually has the room for a full list.
On a completely different note, "The Inventory Tracking Sheet" is too long a name, and no obvious short form jumps out at me. What are we going to call these things for short? The obvious acronym is amusing, but inappropriate. Any other suggestions?
Correct, it is different than the bestiary imp. However, nothing suggests it type would change. I don't see in any text in my reading of Animal Companions or the Diabolist class that would suggest it should be anything other than Outsider.
After all, the animal companions listed in the bestiary have a type of animal, do they not?
The imp in the bestiary has the type of Outsider.
Why should it change?
Also, this text:
Quote:
If the imp is slain or the diabolist release it from her service, she may gain a new one by performing a ceremony requiring a 24-hour ritual to conjure and bind the new imp to herself.
That sounds an awful lot like something you do with evil outsiders to me :P
I want HIGH survivability with GOOD damage output as I am the only full time party healer (+1 Paladin)
Clarification query, are you:
a) Going frontline druid wildshaper, focusing on damage and staying alive.
b) Hanging out in the back as your druid, casting support spells
c) Being in the front, wildshaping, but also healing when needed.
That aside, my druid loves:
Natural spell
Druid Vestment
once the fighting in 8 stops, don't allow your PCs the standard undefined amount of time to recuperate. Korsan is diving into combat on round 10. So that might be right when the PCs are out of position healing, looting, or talking about retreating. Be ruthless.
Also, you mentioned treasure cards with pictures of the loot on them. I don't suppose you could share yours, so I don't have to spend boat loads of time hunting down appropriate pictures? Maybe this Monday, I'll see if my local game store has any of the Gamemastery item cards in stock. I've never bought any of those, so I'm not entirely sure what's in them. Is there a deck that anyone would say goes particularly well with this adventure?
Here is a link where someone has done a ton of legwork. I don't know who, unfortunately, as the link was just forwarded to me by another VO.
EDIT: I think it was James "Iammars" McTeague that made the cards.
The idea is print off these cards and put them in standard TCG plastic sleeves.
I've been trying to figure out what bothers me about this thread and I think I've figured it out.
It's that this was posted in the middle of the game. Interrupting the flow of a tabletop game by whipping out an electronic device and making a forum post is something that would really irritate me. Both as a GM and as a player.
That said, SwampTing, is this an online game? Etiquette for an online or PBP game would be a bit different I imagine.
Yes, it was a play-by-post.
Thus, my follow up question to Chris a couple posts back: if it's okay to involve outside help in a rules dispute, what recourse do online players have?
I saw that, but never saw a mention of the format by the OP.
Given that it's a PBP, then I feel better about it. In regards to your question (if it's open to others), I think it's all about good judgement.
As a player at a table, if a GM has us encounter a creature, and is neglecting a key feature of it, I'll make a mention. "Hey GM, just so you know, that thing has grab -- so it might want to grapple while it makes those attacks." If I need outside resources to help -- "hey GM, I don't think X works that way" -- I would likely try to bring it up before I take it to an online squabble.
I would shoot the GM a message if we were playing PBP.
"Hey GM, are you sure about that? I think yeti's are vulnerable to fire. Here are a couple helpful links."
There has to be a level of acceptance by a GM that they could be making mistakes. And a level of trust by players that the GM isn't going to screw them over. Tabletop RPGs are like those trust-fall exercises. If the people around you aren't going to catch you, you probably don't want to play with them.
That said, in an online format, it might be hard to figure out if people you play with can be trusted. My only experience with PBP was years ago with 3.5, and a majority of the people I played with were fun and honest, and we had a good time. I doubt the culture has changed enough that an average GM would be opposed to the messaging solution I suggested above.
I think that if everyone wants a fair and fun table, then if everyone is just mature and up front about questions, posts like this won't happen.

Nathan: we crossed paths at the VO dinner before PaizoCon and I'm glad to see you're setting the bar high for the next up and coming 5 star in your area!!
