Yep I have fond memories of my cleric/wizard/mystic thuerge who could Tensor's Transformation and Righteous Might and still have access to his abilities to expand turn undead to smite people with a bonus to Char mod. Also played a Wood Elf Barbarian/Frenzied Bereseker/ and the elf specific prestige class out of Races of the Wild that also frenzied. I cound rage/frenzy/frenzy and gain massive bonuses to my str/dex/con and be unkillable and make those around me frenzy. It got stupid when I took Leadership and became a cheiftain in game. Biggest cheese factory I saw was a mulitclass Bard who had three prestige class that let him walk around in Supreme Invisibility and anti magic field excluding himself and just walk up and kill you.
After playing Kots I will have to say that the system is balanced combat has been streamlined. Class creation is somewhat easier with your character only gaining magic items a level below, above and equal to your level. Powers and abilities straight forward and easy to understand once yo know what you want to play. Now my objections: Alignment. Putting CG and NG together as well as LE and NE together seems a bit much. No netrual alignments either just Unaligned. Remaining Unaligned seems to have the potential of being more abusive than CN 'I kill because I can and it I was right in the end anyways' argument or the LN 'no mercy attitude'. This game is now basically a minis game or even more so a MMORPG. Me and my group have stated several times that this brings back memories and tactics that they have used in WoW and Everquest. I am the only one that has never played either of those games, but I am fan of FPS such as Rainbow Six and Socom so the tactics are not much different. Aside from these two thing thats it. These things will not keep me from playing 4E or enjoying it. I truly believe though that my heart will always remain in 3E and 3.5. Beside unless Privateer Press releases that they are going to switch to 4E than I am most asured that I will continue to play 3.5. IK is, after all, my favorite campiagn setting.

It wouldn't surprise me at all. I do however remember when 3.0 came out and 3.5 came out to patch the systems problems. This is what will happen with 4E but...... Your not being snotty at all Rez you have actually be a great help. I believe the reason that I was unable to find the thread on the WoTC boards was because I haven't signed up yet. Also my laking computer skills don't help either. Anyways thanks! And continue to post anything on 'Chosen of' for FR here.
Dart! I have searched the Wizards forum and haven't found anyone under the name of Green Elven Vampire. I also have aviod the WotC registartion too, but after this I may almost do it just to see this person templates. Thanks though Vendle. If anyone has any resoruces that describes or gives an actual template for Realms 'Chosen of' other than Bane, Mystra, and Mask then feel free to post or here or just link.

You guys have been great I am glad to see that not everyone dislikes FR in these forums.

Hey is it my fault that I am the group beatstick that can't roll dice for crap and the aristocrat girl ends up taking down our foe with the help of two commoners and an expert meatshield...I mean expert? ;) I didn't askes the drunk pirate to be a jerk, but he had it coming to him and I kind of wanted his rum too. Besides Bran feels naked without any armour on.

Their going to be facing three threats from the Elder Evils book Father Llymic, then Ragnorra, and finally Atropus. IF they defeat Father Llymic then they get the template. They're a mixed group Ranger,Barbarian, and Cleric of Tempus, a Mask worshipping Rogue, and Wizard who worships Azuth. This is going to be great!

Ok I almost have him ready I just need to now is it 1st level? And I will be taking a regional feat called Strong Soul it has the following stats: Prerequisite: Human from Moonshae Isle or humaniod from other regions. Benefit: You gain a +1 bonus on all Fortitude and Will saves. Against death affects, energy drain, and ability drain, this increases to +3. If this is ok then I will post him.
Hello I am interested in playing. I have been longtime player in the Realms, but this will be my first PbP. I have few question: 32 point build: What are our starting stats 8 or 10. Is this a start 1:1 point exchange or the tiered 1:1 then 2:1 after a curtain stat and if so what stat. Regional Feats and starting equipment: With the bouns feat given to us are we still restriced to only one regional feat or may we have two. Do we get the bonus starting equipment for our region and if so may we choose not to take it and gain the extra 100 in starting gold as per the Player's Guide to Faerun? Finally I would like to play a Human Warrior specially a Ffolk milita man looking to keep safe his loved ones, friends, and community from outsiders that are known to bring trouble in their wake. Thanks hope to hear from you soon.
Yes the nWoD is great. I never played the oWoD, but have read some of the books and gotten a great overview of the oWoD game. Vampire - mostly a social game unless other supernaturals are around and making themselves noticed otherwise they just turn on each other to found out who can rule the rost for the longest. Werewolf - good teamwork combat based game. If your group gets along well then this is the game for them. Mage - very mental. metaphors everyway and esotric meaningss are ripe within in all things mage: the awakening. If the group doesn't like to think or be challenged with a vast swiping mystery that has far reaching implications and the whole 'victory but at what cost' theme then this game could be a bet of a let down. Promethean - I have read some, but not a lot of this forth game within WoD. However what I have read is somewhat troubling. The ability to make uber-combat monkey PC's in this game is somewhat problematic to me, but I must not completely judge it for I have not read it through and through like the other three above. Changeling - Magnificant. Thats it. Numerous character creation options and back story potential here. The combat and social aspect of the game are equally played in this fifth installment. It is by far the best that White Wolf has come with yet within the new WoD.

Like... could a Mage with the Mind Arcana undo the effects of a Vampire's Dominate? If it is possible, how does it work? Ok supernatrual conflict specfically mage vs. X is discussed in this book: Tome of the Mysteries. Please forgive I don't know how to do links. On pgs. 45-49 It explains the reason why a mage DOES NOT get a reflective action to counterspell or even is aloud to counter another supernatraul beings power. The reason is a balance in that mages have passive ability to cast spell that make them basically immune to the effects of werewolf gifts and vampire disicplines. Here is were it explains that from the book:
This immunity in affect balances the mages physically weakness when compared to the other supers. I highly recommend buying this box is it has many other useful items such as new spells, items, and the most useful of all how to make custom mage spell. And so to answer your question NO a mage does get a reflective save to counter the Discipline, he/she should have perpared ahead. Sucks to be them. * taken from Tomb of the Mysteries 2006
The fact that the Spell Compendium has made a number of cleric domains and domain specific spells, such as Lion's Roar(SC pg 132), more or less generic has upset the balance of the cleric class. Lion's Roar is an offensive spell orginally granted to dieties that have the Courage domain. Now in the FRCS Tempus is one the main war-deities, does he have the Courage domain, no. However after reviewing the domain spell list and the know facts about Tempus I allowed the player to added Courage to the domains granted to clerics by Tempus. Now Lion's Roar is a general 8th level cleric spell and I had player playing a cleric of Eldath, which is a diety of peace and love and all that other hippy crap. She wanted to cast this spell and ruled I no a diety of the profile of Eldath, pacisfism, would not grant her follows the ability to lay the smackdown on their enemies, sorry Ghandi... In my games if a person wants to have a access to a domain not granted not by their diety they must show it to me and I will rule weather it meets the flavor of said diety. I do this on a character by character bases and this saves me time and sanity. If a diety has nine domains then so be it as long as they meet the flavor of said diety Deities having six to nine domains may seem a little excessive, but you must look at like this; If most dieties have five domains now then that means that a cleric has access to some 45 spells that they can specifically cast and most other clerics will not have access to. If you increase to the max of nine as stated they now have access to 81. So if you would like your PC cleric can have a limited access to certain spell 45-81 or have full access to and additional spells 45-81. The whole point of the previous paragaraph was basically saying you must control the spells that your PC have access to and the domains as well. A number of spells on Domains list in the Spell Compendium are general cleric spell as well. This is a major mistake by the publisher and now gives tools to clerics that they normally would not have some of those tools. And yes Pelor should have the Renewal Domains, Lathander has it in the FCRS and the two deities are almost identical what with the light and the sun and the birthing of the babies.....

Thank You Mr. Drain for the math stats. I was looking at the NPC town guards for a campagin that i had made and reviewed a quick hobgoblin regular that I had for a game I am in now. While the human receives the extra attack for being a 6th lvl fighter his second attack hardly hits vs. the hobgoblin hitting somewhere in the ballpark of 7-10 times on his attack. I think that giving the hobgoblin a +2 Str improvements more than warrants a LA in addition to there other stats with this added in. The +1 Natural Armor is something I will have to think about because this then gives the hobbe a +2 to AC in addition to the +1hp/lvl and the +1 to Atk and Dam. This requires more thinking and beer consumption on my part.... to all of you who contributed thank u for your ideas and facts....

I was thinking of adding a racail HD to the hobgoblin and making them a junior bugbear of sorts, but like was stated above hobby rogues would get screwed. I think I would be inclined to just ignore the LA like Aubury stated. The half-orc is an excellent PC race, espicailly if u want to play Barbarian/Frenzied Berseker. In the Races of Destiny the feat Channeled Rage(pg150) allows u to expand one of the use of your rage to gain a bouns equal to your Str score and add it to your will saves, if your F.Berseker and need to end the frenzy then that is sure to help. I would also like to added something to the hobby's stats to make them worthy of a +1 LA. What do think would be a good addition: +2 natural armor or
Hey folks I need opinions for my group has come up with another question... Do hobgoblins as a PC race get screwed on their level adjustment??? Now don't get me wrong I think any race that has improved stats (+2 Dex, +2 Con) and no negative stat mods is maybe a partial reason to give a PC race a +1 LA. However when comparted to other PC races such as Planetouched and especially the Catfolk,(a personal favorite) it just seems that they get hose. Lets compart the Planetouched, just the Assimar and the Teifling from the MM - Improved stats +2Dex,+2Int,-2Cha Teifling
The Hobgoblin +2Dex,+2Con
Now how is the even comparable?? And now the even more unbalanced PC Level +1 Adjustment Catfolk
Now come on the Catfolk has a natural armor bonus and +4Dex! I usually play a rogue when I play a Catfolk, but still +1 NA. The Hobgoblin is a military race if anyone should have N.Armor its them. Some in my group have said that the Catfolk's NA makes up for the no darkvision. Thats fine, but +4Dex to a physical stat come on. And now that I am thinking about the Goliath gets +4Str,-2Dex, and +2Con and has Powerful Build and is only a +1 LA. WTF! I am I wrong or is the hobgoblin getting screwed? Are these the ramblings of madman with to much time on his hands...maybe, but thats not the point. The point is that hobgoblins are getting hosed.... Your thoughts......
Played in game once were it seemed everyone decided, without talking to anyone else, to be a multiclass bard. We had: Human Barbarian5/Bard5/Warrior Skald1
It all became runduant during combat because 2 of usfascinate and the other 2 would lay the smacksdown. It was also one of the few games were we didn't run out of healing spells in the first three or four encounters. Between the cleric and I we were handling the traps that the no-show-rogue would have been taking care of. And knowledge checks became one of the high lights of the game, usually if someone didn't beat the DC at least 2 others did. Yeah is was all good 'till the DM got sick of us kicking the crap out of his homebrew monsters and beating his custom Dungeon that took him 3 months to make. The party ironically died in a room that had been silenced...

Done it. Powerful. My sure to choose metamagic feats that be assigned to both of your classes spell list though or use the alter class abilities in the PH2 for the sorcerer if you don't want to take a full round to cast your spells. Also remember that the Favored Soul is one of those whacky classes that has two key abilities that spells are based on. I think they're Cha and Wis. If you can get your spell list to included offensive and then cure spell you're like a howizter with an EMT attached. The problem becomes that you have to make the choice of nuking the group of enemies that is in sight or healing the secondary fighter because the primary is down. Choice choices....
The primary healer in the party is a cleric with the Healing domain, Augmented Healing, and the DMM feat w/ Max spell. She also has an armband that allows her to maximze any conjuration(healing) spell of 6th level or lower 3/day. My assest as a healer is secondary. The DM is not letting this ablility slow him up any, but I think that he is using it as excuse to throw higher EL at us than we can handy. I calculated one and it was +6 or +7 higher than we could handle. We barely made it. This has be happening through the whole game and I think that I accidently started an arms races with my DM without knowing it. Question - Metamagic Song is the same basic thing except its for bards. It states "You cannot use the metamagic song feat to add a metamagic feat that would make the spell's effective level higher than the highest level of spell that you can normally." DMM does not say this. Has DMM been errata to include this? If so my buff days are over. If it has not then why do you think it hasn't?
Ok so here I am playing in Waterdeep Campaign as a Cleric of Gond. We are in the process of investigating the disapperance of a noble's son and track the kidnappers to a warehouse on the docks. After a long draw out battle we began searching the warehouse and find that the warehouse owners is in his office doing paper work or something. So me and three of the other PC's decided to question this guy who was a 15th lvl wizard. I start the converstion and some words are exchanged and some threats he get ready to cast a teleport to 'return with the city watch'. I think he was lying even though I failed my Sense Motive. I am standing ten feet from him with a desk inbetween me and him. I try to grapple him and the DM says I am to far away so I get the bright idea to try and jump at him. So Str of 14 + no ranks in jump + fullplate = equals me doing a belly flop on this guys desk. The DM turns to the other PC's still down in the warehouse and say they hear an explosition and see me come flying out of the third story office window and I land at the feet of the party's Healer still smoldering from the exspolsive fireball he just cast. So folks if u plan on grappling a wizard 8 levels higher than you make sure to have some ranks in jump.
Ok so I game with a bunch of power gamers and we have the tendacy to make stupid chessy characters. I came up with this build for a game: It is based in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Human (Mulan)
Feats
So why does a Mystic Theurge need to be able to turn undead 14/day u ask. Well Divine Metamagic allows you to spend turn/rebuke attempts as a swift action to pay for the increase in spell level when adding a meatmagic feat to a spell. So I spend 6 turn attempts and Righteous Might myself gaining all of the bonus of the spell for the next 24 hours. Then once most of my offensive spells are gone I Tenser's Transform myself and NOW I am a holy terror(heh heh). With those spell in place I am a better fighter than my parties fighter. I can say for sure that I have single handlely taken down numerous melee NPC encounters and have saved the party twice by doing this. And don't forget I am under the effect for 24 hours or until I dismiss it. Is this to over powered? I have not inculeded the magic items that give me stat bounses or the fact that I am carrying a +4 keened Greatsword.
Remember folks the cool Muls from Dark Sun! The sterile crossberd between a Dwarf and Human. Their concept may not be orginal, but as PC's they are cool race to play. Hmmmmmm.....sterile crossbred...? Kind like a Mule the offspring between a horse and a donkey. The differents???? Lets see...stubborn...mean as hell...and will bite you if it has the chance. Actually their appears to be no differents between a Mul and Mule. OMG there pronounced the same! Praise to the jackass' of D&D!

This thread was not orginally about law vs. chaos, but I have come to see that those two things are at the very core of the Blood War and the reasons why the Demon Lords and Archdukes fight each and themselves. However it also shows that the powers of evil will always be divided weather lawful, chaotic, or neutral. The powers of good the angels, eldarins, archons, and etc... are powerful. They get along and cooperate willing with each other. They have there arguements and disagreements here and their, but they work to common of good of the destruction of evil. Asmodues knows this having been in that camp. And while everyone is fighting each other he slowly plans, manipulates, and assasinates his way to godhood.

It almost looks like he was posing for someone to paint him in all his infernal glory.
While I am a sole support for Big A and all his mechanism and schemes...I will have to say that I like the new make of Demogorgan with the hyena heads out of the Book of Vile Darkness. When I found out that he originally was a baboon headed schizo it just didn't seem right. But this is all possible because I am a new gamer in terms having never play 2.0.
I plan in the Forgotten Realms campagin setting and actually did something close to this with my cleric/ techsmith character. I started with Adamantine Fullplate and started by adding a str enchantments that only cost gold not a slot on the armor enchantments bounses. I then added an ablilty that allowed me to be under the effect of spell immunity for five mins a day. I also added all of the the energy resistances 30 because they only cost gold. I finished it off by added Health, Healing, Freedom, and Proof against Enchantments and Transmuntations. By this time my DM was getting mad because he couldn't throw anything add use that could kill me. Everyone else had been through two characters by now and he finally ended my armor enchanting days by throwing a High lvl dragon at us that could command rust monster??o.O?? So I must say be careful when allow PCs to make their own Powered Combat Armor like that in Starship Troopers(The book not the moive that was a disappointment). Especially if they are an Artificer. I have seen and done crazy things with that class.
And round two is over..... The broken body of Orcus lays in ruins after the coup de grace from the Princes of Demons. And even Demogorgan appears to not to be able to defeat the Ruler of Hell himself....is there anyone that can defeat the all powerful Asmodues?....I think not. Now moving on from the fight. The possbile of Asmodeus being an overdeity has be a hotty argue topic on this forum. IS it possible that Asmodues was perharps....gasp...an elder evil that was able to manifest himself in a form of an angleic crusader for the forces of good all along schemeing to take his our corner of the multiverse. And remember my devil loving friends that no demon lords controls more than three layers of the Abyss, I believe that would be Graz'zt, and Asmodues controls ALL nine layers of Hell no matter who he puts in charge as a de facto leader. So in retrospect Asmodues 2 : The other forces of Evil 0
And as for the 'Far Realm' "dieties" Asmodues has plans for you when demon and celestial problems have been dealt with
Ohhh It looks like Orcus got the crap kick out of him by Big Red summoning the aspects of two other Archdukes instead of dealing with the Lord of the Undead himself. But wait.... what is this..... Demogorgan has come in with the tag team relief that the Lord of Undead needs. Ohhhhh....never mine that was just a coup de grace and Demo takes up the mantle of the Lord of Demons and Undead. So here we are.... Round two Demogorgan vs. Asmodues
Ok for the past few weeks my role-playing group and I have been discussing a question of demon lords vs archdukes of Hell. Who is the most powerful Demon Lord and the most powerful Archduke? The latter was ansewered fairly quickly, Asmodues THE Archduke and ruler of Baator. We got caught up on the demon lord and finally settled on Orcus. He is the closes of the major demon lords(not counting Lolth she is already a god and I don't want to get into the discussion of 'she could owner all the Demon Lords and Archdukes' already because she is a god) in achieving godhood and his cults are as numerous on the Material Plane as Asmodues'. So round one Orcus vs. Asmodeus Condition - Trapped on the Material Plane and they cannot get back to there prospective planes. They can do any other ability that there stat blocks say except teleport off the Material Plane. They can also teleport around the Material Plane if they wish. They encounter each other and the fight is on! |
