I don't mind when a scenario ends up being mostly talk-y, but this one turned out to not have a lot of variety when approached that way. Still, thanks for being flexible and letting us take the alternative route.

Zekuli lets out a little harrumph. "Yes, it seems our intel was a little lacking. Those statues have rather more value than the purely historical, after all." He gives the venture captain a stony look, but isn't feeling insubordinate enough to press the point any further.

"At least all of our group got through it safely. Couldn't say the same for our coin pouches."

Zekuli doesn't like this market, not one bit. To be a cleric of Nethys in a place where magic itself is disallowed - it feels a little dirty. He leaves his weapon at the entrance and then keeps his head down, hoping they can finish their business and get out of here quickly.

Once they find the man they're looking for, he chimes in, hoping to bring down whatever outrageous price he is probably going to ask them for. "On the other hand, if you're willing to part with it we could put in a good word for your business in this area, in appreciation for your cooperation. Marafi the Magnificent Merchant, how does that sound?"

Zekuli feels a strong tickle in the back of his throat but just barely manages to ignore it, though his eyes begin watering. He looks uncertainly at Farlen, then decides to follow the man's lead. To the unhappy looking workers, he speaks grumpily in Osiriani, in case they understand that language: "Okay, no need to be pushy. I'm headed out. It's like you're trying to hide something in here."

He looks around to see if he can tell where the invisible person went, and then moves toward the back door.

Zekuli hastens forward as fast as his bulky armor allows (which is not very fast). His movements raise a great deal of dust, which settles all over him.

Fortitude: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

The tickle is strong, but he holds the sneeze back for the sake of concentrating on the task at hand. He thinks quickly over the spells he prepared this morning, if any would be useful... and nope. His meager magical talents cannot help with tracking down an invisible stranger running away for no discernible reason.

Double move 40' toward where the moving dust last appeared.

"Buri... that is you, right?" Suddenly filled with doubt, Zekuli blinks and squints into the dusty air ahead, as if that would help reveal an invisible person. "Could you say something?"

Zekuli eyes the windowless building a little nervously. He doesn't like going into places blind. "I guess we'll be going in there, then." He helps brush off the man who had fallen and says, "I don't suppose you know what they do in this Whatsit Refinery place?"

Zekuli hustles after Seebonnickk, muttering under his breath, "Oh, bother. That's a troublesome trick. I should learn it myself." He stands in the place where the man disappeared and spins around. He quietly calls out, "Buri Buri-Ban? Are you still here somewhere? We need to talk with you." Zekuli discreetly casts Detect Magic where he's standing to see if there are traces of any other spells left behind. (Assuming there are no suspicious-looking statues sitting there, of course)

Zekuli's face creaks a little but he keeps the smile plastered on. He nods vacantly along with Wylka's greeting, but winces a little when he sees this magician drawing a wand of some sort. Visions of giant scorpions and worse flash across his mind's eye, and he steps in, "You might want to be careful what you're waving around in the vicinity of that statue. And I think you will find that what we have to say is more than a trifle. I'd listen to the man, if I were you."

Zekuli stares blankly at the departing thug. A favor? I don't get it, but if he wants to take it that way, all right. I'm just glad there weren't any more deaths than this.

He eyes the suddenly defenseless-looking statue, and then very delicately wraps the paper back around it. He moves the statue to the farthest corner of the room before returning to tend to Wylka.

"I guess Torch wasn't kidding, when he said not to use magic around these things." He laughs weakly.

Zekuli silently grouses, I haven't learned any magical secrets to bring back home yet, I'm too young to die here. He takes heart when his blow lands, and tries the same thing, one more time.

Hopefully it's not option 4: the scorpion kills everyone and it's all over XD

I'm actually also going to be traveling from the end of September to mid-October, and I don't have anything else lined up for this character. So option 2 would be my preferred choice.

If that doesn't work for everybody, I'd rather go with option 1 than 3 (because of my own upcoming outage).

A reminder to everyone that we all have +1 to attack

Zekuli's heart sinks as another falls. He can feel the momentum of the fight swinging away from them, if it was ever with them to begin with. He tries once more to magically send his weapon to attack the scorpion.

Zekuli gapes in horror at the ferocious attacks inflicted on Wylka. He briefly considers trying to heal the unconscious cleric, but it seems like a risky action while the man is still gripped in the monster's claw. Instead he draws his morningstar and magically sends it dancing through the air to swipe at the scorpion and then return to his hand.

That was a terrible roll. I have selective channeling so I can stabilize Wylka (assuming Zekuli doesn't take an attack like that himself), but I'm hoping you'll be ok for one more round.

Zekuli takes a startled step backwards, away from the massive creature. "It couldn't have just turned into a giraffe?!" he exclaims.

He takes a deep breath and calls on a wave of divine energy to wash over him and his allies - and the shopkeeper and the thug too, for good measure. He hopes they also want to defend their own lives in this situation. "Nethys guard us from large magical scorpions!"

"Why did you buy it?" he asks, genuinely curious about this point. "And why are you so adamant that you won't part with it?"

As they approach the warehouse, Zekuli mutters to the others, "Don't look now, but there are a couple people following us. Keep your wits about you."

For his own part, he ignores whoever that is for now and enters the building. He takes in the scene and frowns. Nobody likes a bully. Already out of patience from having to make deals with Torch, Zekuli doesn't have time to deal with this delicately.

He takes a step inside the room and calls out to the one called Belal, "We have some business of our own with Tandir. Now, sir, will you be leaving or do we need to help you find the exit?"

Zekuli hums skeptically, his lips pursed. He doesn't like the sound of owing this man an unspecified favor. But his pockets are not filled with 3000 gold worth, and their mission is the most important right at this moment, so he silently nods his assent along with Wylka.

Zekuli pants from the exertion of an unexpected chase - and here I was hoping for less running this time around - but stops short when he comes across the unexpected scene in the bath.

"Our- our information source," he stammers in frustration. "Did you kill him?" He goes to where Chaim lies on the floor (assuming the half-orcs let him do so) to examine the body.

As they're approaching, Zekuli catches sight of someone who he thinks is the person they're looking for. Before he has a chance to react, the man sees them and flees into the bathhouse.

Zekuli hisses, "I think that was Chaim just now, going in. And I do not believe he is eager to meet us. We might want to hurry in there ourselves."

"Do they have any special properties? Magical statues, perhaps?" Zekuli asks hopefully. It would make this hunt much more interesting, to know that he is involved with returning magical artifacts to his homeland.

He tries to imagine how a meeting with a smuggler in a bathhouse would go, but the picture is fuzzy. Imagination is not his strong point. Zekuli says slowly, "I suppose we could try to pretend we're interested in buying the statues ourselves, but I have always found the direct approach of questioning to be easier in the end."

Zekuli sits a little stiffly in the Venture-Captain's study, and looks slightly uncomfortable in armor that has not seen much wear yet. I hope there won't be so much... running around for this mission, he reflects privately.

I have purchased some new masterwork armor and a weapon that I will apply to this chronicle.

His eyes brighten and he leans forward when Farlen brings up the arcane arts. "You are a scholar? A magician? I hope you won't mind if I observe your techniques carefully. As a servant of Nethys, it is both my joy and my duty, you see." He coughs gently into his fist. "Ah, right, my name. I am Zekuli, from the land of Osirion, where we enjoy weather as fine and mild as it has been here since I arrived."

With a “Hmph!” Zekuli sends his morningstar flying at the remaining skeleton, trying to smash its skull in from afar.

"Oh, bother. At least those creepy crawlies are gone." Zekuli puts away the alchemist's fire and hopes fervently that it won't be needed again. Hearing the voices of his allies calling out from various distances he bends to pick up his morningstar and calls over the edge of the building, "Who needs help? Does anyone see the trogolodyte down there? Did he make it too? I'll be on my way down!"

"Argh!" Zekuli's plan is frustrated when the spiders swarm over him again. This time he manages to keep his head, while brushing off the spider bodies. He stumbles away, drops his morningstar to the floor, and then pulls out a vial of alchemist's fire.

Only then does he notice what happened with the side of the building. He gasps in shock and looks over to that side, torn between dealing with the threat that has been following him around, and helping out his fellow Pathfinders who may be falling to their deaths.

"He's summoning some kind of creature, everyone, watch out!" Zekuli calls out as he identifies the spell being cast. Just then the disgusting swarm of spiders starts crawling all over him and they make themselves impossible to ignore.

He manages to resist the poison in their nasty little bites, but is too busy brushing them off himself to do anything more than stumble backwards out of the swarm. Is the distraction only for one round?

Thinking of the alchemist's fire in his bag, he calls out to the other two, "Get out of the swarm! I might be able to disperse them."

Zekuli easily spots what the troglodyte is trying to do, but not in time to prevent the swarm of spiders from being summoned in their midst. He tries to ignore them and move forward toward their main foe, but they are unfortunately cluttering up the room and making it hard to maneuver. He magically sends his morningstar flying forward faster than he can walk on his own feet, and then calls it back after making a single swing at the troglodyte.

Zekuli rolls his eyes at Pietro's antics.

"We were sent here to find you, and then to explore the rest of the place while we're here. I guess that stuff was probably yours then?" He jerks his thumb back at the armor, weapons, and climber's kit from the previous room. "If you know how to use all that, you might as well join us to look around the second floor."

He helps Balenar dust himself off and checks to make sure the manacles weren't tight enough to cause any injury to the man's wrists. "So far we've found..." he ticks them off on his fingers, "a giant spider, some stinky troglodytes, and a shock lizard, although we left that one where we found it. And you. Was there something in particular you came to find in this tower?"

I’m not sure who you’re comparing to, but I like detailed descriptions. Otherwise it’s liable to turn into everybody just rolling dice and then going home - which can be fun, but is not exactly a roleplaying game.

Thanks for tracking the rounds of bless by the way. Trying to count rounds of a minute-long spell between encounters is always a pain.

As they enter the next room, Zekuli hears more sounds of combat starting up and he sighs and thinks, I guess this is how it will be. Before charging in he puts away his morningstar and touches the mark on his neck, whispers a word of obedience to Nethys, and releases a burst of magical energy.

Cast bless, all allies have +1 to attack and saves vs. fear for the next minute.

I used Hand of the Acolyte again; it just gets tedious to describe it every time with the weapon flying out of his hand and back again, so that's what I meant by "Nethys's gift". But I'll be more specific in the future.

Seeing one of the troglodytes drop unconscious, Zekuli takes courage and steps into the room to go for the one that has slipped to the ground.

I’m not sure why I got moved into the room? I already moved my token and attacked from range last turn, and my next action was going to be to cast a spell, which is problematic if I’m standing next to a troglodyte.
