Thanks for the game while it lasted and I'm sorry for contributing to the lack of responses. I very much enjoyed it but life gets busy sometimes (and, dang, Monte, dead orphans, that's harsh.) ;)

I do hope to game with any or all of you again sometime!

Not sure advantage will help, Wyaph is pretty oblivious. but here goes!

Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8

Seriously? Ug. 4th "9" in a row between 3 different PCs in separate games. :)

Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8

Umm.... Zan?

Wyaph starts to lead the children to what should be a very safe distance away, if possible. "There are going to be SO many modrons, you would never believe it! Just keep an eye on each other and stick together, we don't want anyone to miss out!"

"Oh, and... uh... the modrons are helping to remove some old buildings so that we can make new ones! Do you think they might remove the orphanage so that you can get a new one? Wouldn't that... uh... be so exciting having a new home? I wish they would crush my home so that I could get a new one. So lucky."

CHA check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14

I'm guessing "Isn't it wonderful that your home is about to be destroyed?" warrants a deception check. :)

Soolam curses. "Wyaph! Can you go start evacuating the orphanage!? I'll try to slow them down a little, so you have some time!"

Wyaph rushes over to the orphanage - and quickly realizes he has little experience dealing with children. Not wanting to waste any time, he kicks in the door and bursts in. He does his best to smile widely and put excitement in his voice, "Hey children! Everyone come quick! Do you want to see thousands of modrons?! There's a WHOLE LOT OF THEM marching this way and I know I GREAT place to see them from - a safe distance away. Come on, LET'S GO!! Yay!!"

Door kicking: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

Charisma check I suppose: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Hmm... he'd be better at intimidating them, but he will try nice first, even if it probably is going to terrify the children. ;)

Wyaph will awkwardly get off his mount on the side of town facing the modrons. He will see which roads/paths lead in from that side and if any are relatively large and/or seem to have a clear path through to the other side.

Sorry for vanishing, but I'm back now.

As their steeds gallop towards the modron legion spread across the land, Wyaph grips the reins tightly and leans down bracing himself. He says quietly to his horse, "Prepare yourself for a glorious day! They may be many, but our bravery knows no bounds. A finally grand charge into the enemy ranks awaits us, then they will sign the glori-" Wyaph cuts off and looks confused as Duncan shifts to approach the modrons parallel to their path.

Wyaph whispers to his horse, "I do not know his plans, so be ready, my friend."

Duncan Stone wrote:

As they draw near, Duncan draws as close as the modrons will allow and far enough to not be trampled by them. If the modrons continue to march, he will match their speed on his mount. He then calls out to the modrons near the quinton.

"Hail friends! We come by order of the Sword Archons of Mount Celestia. We we're seeking an audience with whomever is leading the march."

"Of course! They will witness our greatness and surely follow such mighty leaders as ourselves. Duncan, how do you wish for us to assist? Also, who should go to warn the town?"

FYI - Next Wednesday through Friday are my PhD comprehensive exams and I am crunching for them between now and then (and trying not to freak out). I should be able to check things, but if I'm quiet, presume Wyaph is following along and agrees with everyone else. Thanks!

Wyaph looked out over the balcony, coincidentally lost in thought of Ysgard, his childhood home. A pang of grief struck him, reminding him of his father. But it moves on quickly as Wyaph is confident that his father was reborn into an even greater warrior somewhere, sure to shake the foundations of the planes themselves.

Shifting his thoughts toward the future rather than past, Wyaph contemplates how he should construct his realm when he becomes a god. Definitely needs mountains - massive mountains that break the sky itself! Or do you inherit an existing realm when you ascend? I suppose it depends on the method of your ascension -

At her mention of the modrons, Wyaph's attention turns back to Alzeil. As she finishes, Wyaph bows grandly. "Regardless of whether we return to this beautiful and..." he waves his hand around, trying to find the right words, "... well organized realm, I gladly accept this quest. I believe my fate to be intertwined with these modrons, and I plan to see it through. Their March will will bend to *our* wills and they shall spare Heart's Faith."

Thanks! Just a one time thing.

Also, sorry everyone but it looks like in my hurry I found the optional extra downtime activities in the DMG rather than the main ones in the PHB. Whoops!

Sorry again for the long delay.

You said that we could rebuild or swap our characters if we wanted? I do like Wyaph, but in looking at the options and how his personality came out, I am thinking he might be more of a barbarian than fighter. I can just multiclass, but if rebuilding at this point is fine with you, I will redo him today and let you know when he's rebuilt for anyone to review.

Thanks!

Also, personally, I find a mix of roleplaying and combat/decision-points are nice, but I'm flexible if others prefer it skewed more one way or the other. With a personality like Wyaph's, it's a bit easier to roleplay in combat than it might be for other characters I have played.

After returning to Sigil, Wyaph deals with the trauma of nearly dying as a bariaur should - carousing until his money runs out. He crashes at Jysson's home regularly during that but occasionally disappearing for days at a time. He always returns staggering in drunk, exhausted, or both but often in various strange dress - once wearing the scaly hide of a creature no one could identify, another time wearing vastly oversized ochre robes, twice dressed as a Harmonium guard, and yet another dressed as a geisha. The morning after the last one, he had was even more confused that Aerin and Soolam, but he hoped whatever happened that it was something epic.

After about a month of these activities, one night he didn't return. Out of money, and with the carousing out of his system, he returned to the Great Foundry to reforge his mind and his body. There he spent his days working at the forges until he could scarcely lift his arms, and spent his nights talking with other Godsmen about what had occurred and to hear of their journeys to godhood. Occasionally, he is sent on an errand for the Godsmen, but mostly works on projects at his forge for the Faction.

Also "Gaining Renown" with the Believers of the Source. Dunno if we want to get into specific numbers, or just know that he is trying to work up from Namer rank, but is low enough level (and this post late enough), that I figure any work for the Faction needn't be anything too noteworthy this time.

Ultimately, he came to the conclusion that since Primus started the Modron March years early but at the exact moment Wyaph was bleeding out right outside the portal to Mechanus, he believes Primus sent the modrons at that moment to save him because the One and Prime of the Modrons can see the future and knows Wyaph's upcoming godhood is nearing. Since the March continued after Wyaph recovered, there must be more to this plan, but he is glad to see Primus's obvious acknowledgement of Wyaph's importance. However, he knows he must take the next steps on his own if he is truly worthy. This was the only time Primus would help the bariaur, but he appreciated it deeply.

When the invitation arrives, Wyaph, covered in soot and sweat, bows to the light, thanking it. He smiles as he reads it, excited at the numerous possibilities involved, and gets back to work.

Carousing Results: 1d100 ⇒ 30

You make an enemy. This person, business, or organization is now hostile towards you. The DM determines the offended party. You decide how you offended them.

Hmm... interesting. :)

Will update on my activities this afternoon. Sorry for the absence!

But quick responses:

- Will also have to wait until tonight to level up due to limited online stuff. (Come on, WotC! I'd even buy the books a 2nd time as PDFs!) But will decide on my downtime activities and post that this afternoon.

- I am really enjoying it so far, and, yeah, the end of chapter 1 is a big deus ex machina, but the start of many epic quests are that way. As long as nothing else is that forced, I have no problem with a little railroading to help build a great story.

- Zan's silence is cool with me! Those kinds of challenges can make characters more interesting. In another Planescape PbP I'm in, I have a modron PC and rather than going all robotic like some do, I decided to embody the Rule of Threes and only speak in 9 word sentences. I don't think anyone over there has noticed yet, but the roleplaying challenge is really fun and it does subtly create an oddness about him that could easily go overboard if I was being more deliberate in trying to be odd.

- Have to read up more on that node based design when I have time. Thanks for sharing!!

- Lastly, did everyone get their magic item rewards? I lost track of who took what but I tried not to duplicate any one. Just wanted to be sure.

Wyaph will take the Reaper's Flail of Eavesdropping, and is not interested in the wand. Magical healing is for the weak... and apparently Wyaph a few minutes ago. :)

Wyaph will make sure the modron path out of town is generally clear and that people are alright. Most of it would have been settled before he awoke, but he stills feels the need to make sure everyone is ok and safe as the bizarre procession continues... and continues...

"Friends, I joined you late, but unless one of has a valid claim on this building, perhaps a group name would be most fitting? Besides, two of us nearly died in this battle, and if our paths remain crossed, future deaths likely lie ahead. With those deaths, we will be reincarnated in new lives, so no single name defines any one of us. For example, tomorrow Duncan may perish and be reborn...Dancun!... or something." He waves his hands about, "You surely know what I mean. If we band together, our group transcends any one of our lives, what say you?!"

AKA Wyaph votes for putting down a group name. If you want suggestions, I'm sure he could come up with some *attempts* at glorious names.

Just seeing how close I got

Death save during Duncan's first attempt: 1d20 ⇒ 18

Death save during Duncan's second attempt: 1d20 ⇒ 18

So Wyaph would stabilize same round as Duncan makes the check. I forget which had higher initiative but it doesn't matter.

And checking number of hours if he has to wake up on his own (although I do have an amusing image of after Wyaph's first unsuccessful fight, he winds up UNDER the great modron march! :)

Wake up: 1d4 ⇒ 4

When and however he wakes up...

Wyaph groggily starts to awaken. His vision is blurred and he shakes his head, trying to clear the haze, but winces at the sudden pain. "Enh... what? Did... did I die?" He blinks his eyes open and sees...

Modrons. An endless marching sea of modrons.

"I died and was reborn as a modron?!!"

He quickly looks down at his hands and bloody chest, and then nervously reaches up to feel his bariaur horns before letting out a sigh of relief.

Painfully, he gets to his hooves and looks around a bit embarrassed. "Well, I guess I have a longer journey than I thought to achieve godhood. Say," he points to the thousands upon thousands of modrons, "how long was I out?"

Since Wyaph both wasn't part of the original deal with Jysson and was unconscious, I will let others pick first.

Wyaph twirls his two handaxes as he backs away from the group in front of him. He calls out to them, "Ready yourselves and let's make this battle glorious!" With a giddy small hop, the bariaur charges head first into the group, axes swinging to either side.

Correct me if I do something wrong, this is my first 5e fighter:

1. Move to back up and get at least 20ft between Wyaph and the group of two women and one man in the v-shape in front of him.
2. Attack action to charge and ram the man in the middle.
3. Action surge to attack woman to the left (used up until next rest, but Wyaph likes to start big).
4. Bonus action to use 2nd weapon against woman on the right.

Charge attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Charge damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (5, 2) + 3 = 10 & Str DC 15 or knocked prone

Left axe attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Left axe damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Right axe attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

Didn't mean to be pushy but was just trying to move us forward. So are the options:
- Aerin's plan to just go in and ask
- Duncan's plan to pretend we are being recruited for the militia and just go in
- I think Zan implied just going in like we belong there
- Wait for the results of Soolam's scouting

Am I missing anything?

Wyaph would probably vote for Aerin's plan because it was the last recommended, he thinks Zan agrees with it, and he just wants to fit in with his new companions. If that doesn't work, we improvise in the most fun way possible (which is what Wyaph is secretly hoping for, but is smart enough to know that's a bad Plan A).

Seeing Soolam break into the Council or Order as Zethaya changes appearance, Wyaph exclaims, "Yes, glory goes to the bold! You are a fascinating group! I'm fortunate to have met you. Perhaps we should try taking the book inside. At worst, Aerin's idea will work and this person will just come get the book. At best, we can gloriously liberate Soolam!"

I vote for it still being afternoon. I would hope we didn't stand around debating it for hours, as much as I am wary of Soolam sneaking in during broad daylight. Plus that gives us more options for going inside and returning it.

However, I guess, ultimately, it's up to Soolam on when he decided to sneak in. I'm fine either way, but if it's up to a vote, I vote for afternoon before they close still.

"Aye, either entering by day or night sound like a challenge. We could perhaps distract the receptionist and then charge past, seeing which of us can force our way in far enough to reach this person you seek!"

Unsure if the group would find charging through the best option, Wyaph does return to Duncan's ideas, "Or if you prefer subterfuge, I have only just met all of you, so I do not know who is the most charming among us, but there is no challenge I will not face! I have never tried to lie my way into a building before, but if it will prove my worth to you, I accept this challenge!"

These are bad ideas. But it's what Wyaph would offer - charging in with a mad dash as far as possible, or personally attempting something he has never tried before (and is not particularly good at).

I looked into Tiberius' posts. Looks like he got a second job over his summer break, and decided not to tell us about it. He did tell the people in the game he was running, but he didn't tell anyone in any of the games he was playing in.

He's now out of the game. I've invited a new player to join us (from the initial applicants), and he'll be posting soon.

Thank you for inviting me! I'm looking over the gameplay thread to get up to speed and can be ready to jump in whenever it best fits. I don't mind waiting if that works better for the story. Whichever you prefer.
