D'ah, thanks! This is such an honor. I can't believe I'm the PaizoCon 2022 Guest of Honor. Just floored. OH! And I forgot another thing I like to do when prepping to write an adventure: I make a list of all existing creatures that could possibly be in the adventure, including weak and elite adjustments. It takes a while, but sometimes I get some interesting ideas from Bestiaries and the kinds of things I could include. Then, when building encounters, I have this sorted-by-level shopping list of critters I can use. It really helps the brainstorm process! I re-create it every time instead of re-using it because it forces me to engage with and think about each monster.

Hello Pathfinders! I have set up this thread for the inevitable GM questions that will come along as part of this experiment. I'll attempt to answer any author or Pathfinder specific questions, while leaving the development-type questions for John and Linda. Hope you enjoy running it as much as I've enjoyed writing it.
Let me be among the many to comment on this blog and say thank you to you, John, and Linda for everything you do in our global community. In addition, a thank you goes out to all of my fellow Venture-Officers and event coordinators for all you do for your local communities! After going to my first Paizocon in 2012 and seeing all that was going on and all who put the great event together and I wanted to join in on the efforts in order to give back to more than just my local community. September 2013, I was given the honor of becoming a Venture-Lieutenant for the local Spokane Community. November of 2015, was when I was given the ability to step things up even higher with the promotion to Venture-Captain. Both of these were goals I wanted to and succeeded in accomplishing. If these positions weren't available, would I still do what I am doing now and spreading PFS in the area. I would have to respond with a resounding yes. While the Campaign Service Coin in another goal of mine but I do not want it unless I deserve the privilege. I agree that is should be more than just a check box during a Pathfinder journey. Thank you.

If you want to try something new:
The city of Stonehill is mostly a border town, a quiet way-station on the Mataren road. Merchants stop here to change their currency from Kylian crowns to Bartanthian ducats and purchase a merchant's license before heading to Calis, the capitol of Bartanthis. The fishing boats pull in a fresh haul of salmon each morning, and the loggers provide plenty of lumber to keep the city growing. However, something strange has been happening recently. Fortune-tellers have been getting near-constant readings of doom an tragedy. The town medium has been having nightmares and hearing ever-present voices. Even the kobolds have closed up their tinkerer's shop to focus on fortifying their tunnels, claiming the rocks keep shifting causing cave-ins. Magic has been absent from the world, in all but children's stories... Clockwork servitors assist the wealthy and military forces have started to train in experimental black powder weapons. Rumors of even stranger things have been heard recently: Overnight, an innkeeper set her own inn ablaze from fire streaming forth from her fingertips. A little girl who was nursing her injured little brother watched as he miraculously healed in her arms. A young man was just shaking the hand of his fiancée’s father when the older man started to sputter and convulse, his flesh cooking before his future son-in-law’s eyes. Something is about to happen... something world shattering.

Has anyone created a tracking sheet for making the Rebellion part easier? I understand that this won't be as involved as the Kingmaker Kingdom, but thought it would be nice to have something that auto-calculated. If someone has something (Excel or Google Sheets) please post it. If not, I'll probably make one and post it anyway. Just no need to re-invent the wheel.

This was by far the best GenCon ever. Playing in a room with over 1000 other Pathfinders was awe inspiring. I'd like to give a HUGE thank you to our convention HQ staff for making the entire thing run so smoothly. I'd also like to thank the HQ leads, who really made this GenCon an amazing event for PFS players. In particular, a huge special thank you for Mike Brock for leading the campaign to where it is today. We could not have gotten this far without his outstanding leadership. Energized, I expeditious advance into the next Season of PFS gaming ready to: Explore, Report, and Cooperate!

I've seen some conflicting information so far, for what little information I've come across. The Seekers of Secrets book has a great map of the grounds, but it has no scale. The description of the main entrance lists the road as 60 feet wide, making the base of the structure approximately 530 feet wide and 475 feet deep. On current scale with a miniature, that makes it an almost 9' x 8' "miniature." Alternatively, the same map is used in the [redacted] scenario. The map of the [redacted] building shows that it's 180 feet wide. This would be about half the size suggested by Seeker of Secrets. Redacted:
Year of the Shadow Lodge and Mausoleum Which one is correct? Also, how tall is this structure? There are descriptions of huge towers that raise above the city and can be seen for miles. Lastly, the picture from the blog post Seekers of Secrets - Skyreach and Ambrus, shows a dramatically different layout (but much more detail) of the citadel. Is this just an artists interpretation, trying to emphasize the magnitude of the edifice as well as the feeling of a bustling metropolis? I'm curious because I was going to try and make a scale model for miniatures to use when running the [redacted] scenario. Plus, I thought it would make a really neat piece to attract players at conventions. Are there other sources which give more maps/information about the Grand Lodge grounds?

I'm researching for my new axe beak riding cavalier, and I've come across some questions that I cannot find the answers to: 1) Can I put an exotic or military saddle on my axe beak? For available slots, the Animal Archive lists:

It does not list chest(saddle) or belt(saddle); does that infer any chest item including saddles? The Bestiary entry specifies that I must use an exotic saddle to ride the thing. Additionally, the Additional Resources page states Additional Resources wrote:
I cannot find where it is listed what slots a mount or animal companion can use without taking a feat. Surely I don't have to make a heavy horse mount take a feat to gain access to feet(horseshoes) before I can equip some Horseshoes of the Zephyr on them. 2) If I can equip some sort of saddle, can I use magical saddles? If so, under what conditions? 3) If I cannot equip any sort of saddle without a feat, then I presume I must take the -5 penalty to Ride checks for riding the axe beak bareback. Correct? I appreciate any and all feedback. ...except from trolls, they can drink acid...

With the various wall spells such as Wall of Fire, Wind Wall, and Blade Barrier: Can you cast them so that their effect goes around a corner as long as a point along the wall is within your line of effect and range? Example:

I've written most of the Open Call post I'm planning and was reviewing the submission rules when I saw

One of the "fun" parts of an encounter involves animated objects. I could instead use hidden or disguised mooks, but that makes the encounter significantly more pedestrian. How strict is this rule? Should I change my neat animated objects into a few standard Bestiary humanoids just because there are miniatures for them?

Can you opt out of a readied action if you no longer wish to perform the action? This can either be because you wish to conserve resources or because the target is not what you intended. The rule states "anytime before your next action, you may take the readied action in response to that condition." (emphasis mine) I've run into GMs who make me take it no matter what. I.e. I ready an action to shoot the next thing to run around the corner. The rogue in my party comes running past, the GM says I have to take the shot (even though I'd rather not shoot the rogue I've been adventuring with for the past several levels). Thoughts?

When writing our submissions, should we restrict ourselves to flip-mats that are currently in production? I would assume the intention is to sell more flip-mats, and the out-of-print mats wouldn't accomplish this goal. I'm specifically asking because I like the large private room in the Tavern map, but I can make the Country Inn map work with my design idea. Thanks in advance! |
