Doomed Hero here submitting Vedic Boreal, elven wizard.

"I lost my mother when I was a child. I was not too young to remember her. The memories simply are not there. She was stolen from me and I have spent years trying to put the pieces of the mystery together."

"Finally, I have some few answers and my journey has taken me full circle. Back to Katapesh, where my adopted mother had raised me in the years following my own mother's disappearance. Haleen. She cared when no one else in the world did."

"Now Haleen is missing. I have lost my mother. Again. This time, however, I am not a helpless child."

"I have been preparing to find my mother for years. Now, I have to do it twice."

"Whoever did this is not prepared for the hell I am going to bring down upon them."

Thanks. I really apologize. This seemed like a great start to a fun game. Good luck folks.

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

I apologize for my absence. My new job is making it very difficult to post during the week. I think I am going to have to drop out of the game. I just can't keep up like I thought I would be able to.

"Talismans unlocking arcane understanding are not unheard of. They tend to be keyed to specific people somehow, lending credence to the theory that the talisman itself is not the source, but merely the catalyst. The power seems to lie in the individual, not the object. The object is merely a symbol that triggers a change."

Knowledge Arcana: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27

Knowledge Local: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Vedic's brows rose as he observed the intricacies of the construct he had not realized he was traveling with.

"I have never heard of a construct that mimicked biology so well as to be effected by positive energy. Fascinating."

What's a 27 get me?

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

Virtual Sombrero would be a great band name.

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

Vedic was quiet during the discussion of what Felicity was, but it was clear he was analyzing her. Her? It? More data is required to determine gender specifications.

What should I roll here to figure things out about Felicity?

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

Vedic looks about to invoke another spell, but changes him mind. "Fascinating creatures." he remarks.

"Dangerous though. We would do well to inform the local authorities of their presence. To a less formidable group, they would be quite deadly."

No action.

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

Vedic is not armed with a melee weapon, so he doesn't threaten for the AoO.

Linguistics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15 Grr.

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

I have a difficult time posting on friday and saturday. Sometimes I can, but most weeks this is going to be a recurring thing for me.

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

Jasan Statham? Hahahaha! Clearly I need to work on my dialogue.

Vedic's personality is combination of Mordin and Sherlock.

Your roll was a 10. you didn't know one way or another. They don't look sentient at first glance, but they are.

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

Knowledge Nature: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

"Leucrotta. Intelligent and sentient. Prefers human and elf flesh. Hunts by mimicry, luring prey into ambush. Known to lead packs of gnolls. Quite dangerous. Very sinister." Vedic rattles off facts in quick succession mere feet from the large predator.

Holding his hands out, Vedic let loose a wash of fire that spread toward both creatures.

Fire damage, large Leucrotta, Intense Spell: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Fire damage, large Leucrotta, Intense Spell: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

DC 16 Reflex for half. Based on your description I should be able to catch both ceratures int he area without hitting allies. Staggered creatures don't threaten squares. I'm pretty sure this shouldn't provoke.

Then he backs up a bit, stepping behind Shi'Vatha, but beyond that seems to have no concern for his own safety.

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

Crit Confirm, touch attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Crit damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5

What the crap? That's 3 twenties in a row...

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

Vedic moves to the edge of the camp and extends his hand, sending a lance of frozen energy toward the larger of the two creatures.

Snowball, touch attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Cold Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Fort save DC 16 or be Staggered for 1 round.

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

bam!

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

Sorry for the absence over the last two days folks. Work has been extra work-y.

It's going to happen off and on for the next three weeks, so please bot me as needed. Don't wait on me, please. When in doubt, assume I follow along with whatever Shi'vatha thinks his best. He has a more refined moral compass than Vedic does anyway.

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

Vedic nods. "Agreed."

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

Glornug, aren't Grippli frogs? Your picture is an elk. What's up with that?

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

"That would certainly help romantic pursuits." the elf said with a nod.

"I am Vedic. This is my companion Shi'Vatha." the elf said introducing himself to the table. "Tell us more about this task."

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

"Not an expert by any means. Merely informed." any potential humor in the situation was clearly lost on the fast speaking elf.

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

"Many outsiders posses a certain universal attraction, often phenomenal or faintly psychic in nature." the oddly dressed elf next to the odd little animal creature said. "I believe it stems from the universality of their natures, being that they are formed more from form-given concepts than biological processes."

"Given that, your preferences are perfectly understandable."

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

Vedic thanked the inn keep and picked up the key, then went to join his companion.

I guess at this point we're just listening in for a good point to add ourselves to the group. I'd imagine we're waiting for the wizard who put up the hire notice to announce his presence.

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

"No." Vedic says sliding the writ across the counter. "If you wish to ask him sleep there, you'll need to discuss it with him." Vedic said matter of factly.

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

Vedic didn't know the church well, so he kept his mouth shut and followed his odd companion. Once at the inn he took over.

Did we get that "50 gp per day" writ to present to the innkeeper, or is this coming out of our own pocket?

The bald elf approached the inn keep and asked simply. "Do you have a room?"

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

Vedic's alignment is hard to pin down. I'm going to go with Neutral Good.

"Do not need to eat, true. Does not mean you don't want to. Saw you looking at my lunch yesterday." Vedic said in his usual fast paced clip. He had a habit of leaving out words he felt were 'unnecessary.' He found it efficient. Others often found it confusing.

"Temple of Muir much better than ground. Also nearly out of money. Job will be good."

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

He wears a hood most of the time. That will do.

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

That's not a problem. Prestidigitation is a spell I use a lot anyway. Arcane Mark would work too if I made my mark fairly close to yours, or superimposed them. Anyone without Knowledge Arcana wouldn't even get a roll. Anyone with Knowledge Aracana would have to have Detect magic up, and make a spellcraft check to recognize the actual spell effect before they could roll a knowledge check to see if they could figure out what was going on. :)

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

GM, other players, what do you all think of doing tome backround integration to tie some of us closer together before the game starts?

For instance, I can easily see Shi'Vatha having been found by Vedic after the eidolon's escape from it's former master. Vedic is the sort to be poking around in odd places, and Shi'Vatha would probably need a guide back to the church, or at least someone to pose as a summoner so the eidolon wasn't seen as an unfettered threat.

(The idea of pretending to be a summoner amuses me)

Thoughts?

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

Reporting in!

Can we get a campaign thread to dot? (Pro tip for everyone- If you post in a gameplay thread, and then delete the post, the site still tracks the post so the game will attach to your Campaigns tab without uglying up the thread with a random dot post)

GM can you add your house rules to the campaign tab for ease of reference?

Still here.

Doomed Hero here submitting Vedic Boreal for consideration.

Vedic is a classic elven wizard specializing in destructive magics. He's something of an obsessed genius seeking answers to his own past. His personality is a combination of fast paced intensity and cool, clinical analysis.

Inspirations for the character's personality are Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Moradin from Mass Effect 2, and Mr. Spock. Like all three of those character's he's actually driven by complex emotions, but they are nearly invisible beneath his rationality and self control.

I think he's been built entirely by your specifications. Please let me know if there are any changes necessary.

I'd like to submit Vedic Boreal for your consideration. He's an Elven Wizard with a knack for cyphers and puzzles. He provides solid blaster-y magical backup, plenty of utility, and can even find and disable traps.

He is extremely driven and focused (most of the time), and very goal-oriented. He's not much of a leader, but he is very good at keeping others on task (though he can be rather abrasive about it).

As for myself, I'm an avid and experienced poster. I have a bit of difficulty posting on Thursdays, but other than that I'm extremely consistent.

Vedic has been though a number of variations, as he's been accepted into two other games that have both died out. I'm pretty sure I've taken him all the way back to basics, but I may have missed something. If anything seems odd in his numbers, please let me know.

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

"I do not often consult the opinions of dogs, but perhaps I have been hasty. Perhaps you have another way of getting us where we want to go without bloodshed?" Vedic says dryly.

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

"Captain," Vedic says, returning towards the boat. "we accept."

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

"A moment to concur, and we should be ready to join your crew, captain."

Vedic waves the others over.

"We have been offered passage in return for temporary work as sailors."

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

"I am inclined to agree, but there is the matter of getting back. I would not want to agree to terms that leave us stranded."

Vedic looks to Old Grimbone.

"What say you, skull?"

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

"The voodoo skull is the Maiden's owner, and we have somewhere special to take her also. It would seem we are at an impasse."

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

"Can we ask the name of this friend, Captain?"

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

Vedic looks to Old Grimbone. "An old friend?"

Does the skull recognize the captain?

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

Glad you're still with us.

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

Checking in.

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

Seems to be a lot of that in this group.

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

"We had a discussion on the subject on the way here. Her owner has agreed to let us use her for an endeavor. I was concerned that we would not have a full crew allotment, so I am glad that you are here safeguarding her for us. With a quick discussion of wages we can be on our way."

As he speaks he flips through his book idly and lays a hand on one of the pages. The letters briefly glow and fade.

Charm Person DC 16 Will. Vedic is nothing if not direct.

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

How big is the Maiden?

It occurs to me that having a full crew might be a good idea, assuming the Maiden is big enough to need one.

We might not need to fight at all if someone has a decent diplomacy score.

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

"Indeed. Is this Maiden a boat? Or a ship?" Vedic says, his tone completely serious and earnest.

Can we get a tactical map or a detailed description?

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

So much for "non-threatening elf". I appreciate the concern for my safety though. :)

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

The elf is not a patient person.

Walking out into view Vedic says nothing until drawing close to the ship then raises his hand to hail the sailors.

"Excuse me gentlemen. I have a question for you regarding this vessel."

Readied Action: Color Spray as soon as I can catch at least three of them. As long as they don't consider me much of a threat this might work. :)

Ninja Ninja'd! I just split my last post to accomidate yours. :)

HP 8/8, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref, +2, Will +3, Per +7, Change Energy 9/9

Casting Shield on myself

"It is not their ship. They are merely in possession of it. They will soon discover the difference."

Tomas Skeat wrote:

"The maiden is not a maiden, but rather a boat that is a ship? Ah, well, that explains matters."

"Might be a ship. Depends on the size. A ship is traditionally a square-backed three masted vessel designed for ocean travel, though some exceptions exist, such as the single masted Ulfen longship. Boats, on the other hand, are smaller. A good way of remembering is that ships carry boats."

"Details are important. Very little is what it first seems."
