Varuk moves up along with Aya and Sakuro. Surprise Round Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 After the others let their weapons fly, Varuk fires his new Dwarven crossbow at the remaining Ogre.
Two ones??? So not cool.

Varuk nodded appreciatively to the Dwarven vendor. "I will honor this weapon with as many dead ogres as it will kill. Many thanks, Master Torsten. Here, take this in its stead. I know it is not as worthy a weapon, but it has served me well. I will fully repay you someday." And with that he offers Torsten his light crossbow. **************** Varuk spends his day learning the layout of the town and the area immediately surrounding it. He also buys 20 bolts from Tania, or however many she has if less than 20. **************** Varuk advances through the brush with Tania and Antonio. Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
"Can our arrows and bolts do enough to kill them swiftly? I would not want to take the risk if they can call the rest of the Ogres to their side before we finish them."

Varuk had been letting the others do what they would. He was not used to towns and still found them somewhat discomforting. Action was his strong suit and they just weren't there yet. However, arriving at the weapon merchant's place of business gave him a few ideas of how to better improve his own arsenal. "Good day, Dwarf! You have fine tools of death here. I would buy some throwing axes from you. In addition, since you offered us a few weapons to aid our excursion, I would know if your father is skilled enough to craft one of these." he takes the crossbow from his back and holds it out in front of him for the dwarf to see.

Hey guys. I got a call last night from my mom. My grandmother passed away yesterday. So, I will be traveling all day tomorrow for the funeral on Friday. I will try to check in as much as I can, but it probably won't be a lot. I'll be back around on Sunday evening. Also, I am up for Aya's idea.

Hey guys. I've got a question, Eldon. If we're just waiting on a couple of players wanting to go shopping, can we just take care of purchases here and fast forward or cutscene to the next scene? It's not that I don't enjoy playing out those interactions, but we've been lagging ourselves pretty badly and I think immersion in the next scene would do wonders for involvement and posting. What do you think, man?
Inquisitor 2 | 10/21 | Init +4 | Perc +9 | AC:16 Tch:11 FF:15 | Fort +6 Ref +1 Will +6 | CMD:14 |
"Very well. That seems a good strategy. Tania, you said you'd have some arrows and bolts made for us this morning? I have ten shots. More if you have some bolts to sell me. And with some of the others buying bows and arrows from you, that greatly increases our ranged capability. When would be the best time to go?"

"You say that you knew Teor the Unrelenting? Truly, that is a great tale indeed. Some time, I would hear it. Aya speaks correctly. Before all else, our focus should be on the ogres. After that, I too, would see this monastary."

Varuk takes a moment to think about the events of the past day. So much had happened in so little time. This could not be a coincidence. "Sheriff, I think it is now certain that a confluence of events such as these recent ones is not normal. Something serious is happening here, though we know not the cause. How often does a cult act out at the same time as a band of ogres descends from the mountains, as well as spirits emerging from the mists to plague a small town like this? Action is called for."

Varuk keeps his attention on the 'Sister of the Sea' as she claimed herself to be. Since his departure from his people's lands to hunt down the traitor Tola, life had gotten more interesting than any tales he could recall from the legendkeeper. "Most often I prefer action to talk, but I would hear more. Perhaps we should humor her request." Varuk would hear more indeed. And he would pay close attention to determine the true motives behind this arrival. It would not help anyone if she turned out to be a trickstress with the goal of baffling the 'heroes' attempt to rid the village of the ogres.

Round 2 Varuk focuses on moving forward. No more of these spirits are near, so he continues to head closer to other people, his blade at the ready. "Can one of you soft folk hear me? Varuk will help you." Double move if need be to head closer to the sounds of the spirits attacking and of weapons swinging.

Varuk would have camped south of town between the road and the lake. At this point I figure he's probably around the southwestern tip of the Caravanasery. Also, of all the maps I've found through the discussion thread, I don't see anything with character Icons. Am I missing something? Varuk continues forward while the screams persist. Varuk, being from the highlands past the edge of the valley, is used to the morning fog. But this is different. He feels something different here that puts him on edge. He repacks his bedroll and heads back into town to meet up with the others.

Varuk also finishes his share of the food brought in for them. As the others head in for the night he says, "Rest well, all. I will return in the morning. See you all then." He heads out of the room and then the building. Walking to the edge of town, he looks for a good and safe spot to put down his beadroll and make a small, fireless camp.

Varuk watches these others and notices their bond. They seem to be close already. They had accepted his help, and even helped him when the old crone had poisoned him, but he was on the outside of their circle. Not that he minded that. He was from a completely different culture and had only known them for less than a day. Still, it was something to note and keep in mind. "Well, since we're telling of ourselves, I left my homeland in pursuit of a faith traitor. He was responsible for the eradication of one village of our tribe. His trail led me past this village, and so I followed this way from our lands. I will help you as you clearly can use all the strength you can get. Ogres are mighty and worthy foes, and my people value our triumphs above nearly all else. But sometime soon, I must continue my search for the heretic." Blood magic sounds like something that might not necessarily be taboo among the Rauka'ateepa. Though Arcane knowledge isn't all that prevalent there either. However, Inquisitors would probably train with the very few Arcane casters there to better understand possible dangers and enemies of the faith. I'd like to roll an Arcane Knowledge to see what he knows about Blood Magic. Arcane Knowledge: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

As for feedback, I'm enjoying the game. One thing I do think might be a good idea that I've seen in another game I'm in is this. During combat, put a table in the game header with everyone's initiative and an indicator of whether or not they've gone this turn. Helps a lot when trying to figure out what's going on in the round. I also agree with Jun about Initiative. Just roll it once for all of us to get things started. More to come as I think of it.

Hey guys. So, let me explain myself. I'm a chef working for a celebrity chef who has restaurants all over the states. While at work, I have zero ability to check for updates or post. So, I'm sorry I'm not putting anything up during the middle of the day. It's been really crazy here this past week since our owner came into town to work on the new restaurant he's opening here next month. Well, two of them, actually. Anyway, that's why I've been quiet the past couple of days. Also, I wasn't doing a lot of posting for a bit just because Varuk wasn't familiar with anything in town so I figured I'd let the starting characters take the lead. Kind of like Jun, I was trying to figure out what Varuk would do. He's not too used to people like this, so in these types of situations, he tends to observe before reacting. From now on though, in a situation where I sit back and let others take the spotlight, I'll still post something small and/or let you all know in discussion. So basically, I'm still here and I'll get more involved. And if I'm going to be quiet for a few days because of work or story, I'll do a better job of letting you know. To that end, tomorrow I will be at work from 6am(Pacific) to 5pm, followed by the gym and then taking my father to the airport. I'm not sure if I'll have time for a post, but I'll try. Working on something right now though before I call it a night.

Varuk looks to Tania after she and Antonio make their deal. "I, too, could make use of extra bolts if you have the time." Looking to the sheriff he then states, "I think it best we set out in the morning to scout the situation. Shall we meet shortly after dawn at Tania's campsite? Is there more to discuss now? If not, I will go find somewhere to camp for the night."

The burly servant of what these people would call a "primitive" god looks around at the others in the room. Hearing what they are saying, he considers the information. "Greetings, Sherriff. I am Varuk Beaststalker, of the Rauka'ateepa. My path crossed with your heroes in the burial crypts attached to this farm. With my people, it is my role to take in information like this and put it together to find the enemies of our god and people. I would be happy to help your village for the time being. It seems that there is a deeper plot at work here. Though a few pivotal clues evade us. I suggest you attempt to ambush the Ogres. It is the only way to gain an advantage against them. Once they are dealt with, perhaps a new gleam of insight will come." He stops to think about the old woman for a moment. "And questioning the old crone should also be a priority. Once she is healed, you should not be gentle with her. She surely is connected to this conspiracy."

Veruk shakes his head. "I saw no such person. Alas, I cannot assist you with that. However, if there is a cult desecrating a place of rest for the Rauka'ateepa, I would join your search. This woman will account for her transgressions." He clenches his fist in front of himself, clearly stating a fact, not an intention. Looking to the fallen piles of bones. "If you find anything you are able to make use of on these bodies, I would have you take them. Rauk would be pleased at tools of battle being used to destroy those that would desecrate these loyal warriors." Taking a look at the ground, Varuk begins to search for signs of another set of footprints to follow. Survival: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14 Realizing that the worked floor is not ideal for this, he leaves again through the stairs, preferring the outdoors to make the tracks easier to set and the reduced number of sets of feet to aid his endeavor. "I think you speak truth. Though one thinks perhaps you should use better judgement in battle." He turns to Jun, "I am Varuk Beaststalker. My people live in the highlands west of your valley, away from you soft folk. This place is a burial ground for my people who once lived here, long ago." He crouches and picks up the armor worn by the corpse. Returning to a stand, he holds it out for these soft folk to see saying, "This man was a hero. Chosen as a sentry in the...after-life to protect something or someone else deeper in the crypt. This is a tragic thing that happened. The defilement of his body is sacrilege. He has been dishonored and must be redeemed before he can return to the great battle with the greenskins and scalefaces. "I am a Conservator of Rauk. It is my duty to keep the faith on the right path, and to hunt the enemies to his People. I was on a journey for this purpose when I came across the burial grounds and stopped to inspect the stonework. From without I could hear the sound of your battle, so I came to see why this resting ground was being disturbed. That is when the elf attacked me though I gave no cause. And why are you people here in this Holy place?"
