In the months following the Runelord of Greed’s defeat, Val took the lead on telling the group’s story to the presses and keeping the focus off any of her friends who desire privacy. Sapphira was a stalwart and loving source of strength during this period. She sought out every noteworthy specialist who would give her time and take her money to try to find a way to reach Izomandakus, believing firmly in the importance of loyalty to those who fought and traveled with her. It would be years before she finally lets the matter rest.
Once the gold dust has settled, Val is all-too-happy to move on from adventuring. The cruel and bizarre horrors she witnessed gnaw at her and trouble her sleep, and she just sees another adventure as a source of new and terrible nightmares. She did what she needed to do for the memory of Meg and the girls, and that is enough.
Instead, she goes back to the life of nobility, except with the partner she always desired and a fresh openness. Finally free to exist as herself, the life of a noble no longer feels the prison it once did. She has a calm to her now that was not there before, a steady assurance that she has done something important and necessary and might actually now deserve the comfortable life she has been offered. Her and Sapphira’s wedding is small and personal, at Sapphira’s request, and Val finds it much improved on her first. She and Sapphira become known as the people to go to for funding charitable works throughout all of Varisia, the combination of Sapphira’s gift of mind and Val’s gift of gab making them formidable challenges against any who would try to take advantage. While their reach touches all parts of Varisia, the full scholarship that Val funds for the Golemworks in the name of Izomandakus is one of her favorite contributions.
Val is happy to always make time for any of “the boys” who come around. She even keeps a room in her Magnimar estates set aside for Seamus at all times, just in case her good friend decides to come by that way.
Once Sapphira and Val have fully settled in to their new normal, Val herself suggests something she would have never thought herself capable of before: adopting.
Val expresses little interest in the runelord’s wealth. Money has never been exciting for her, having known it so well for so long. Most of all she just wants to be done with the villain. Her mood may change later, but at the least it feels gauche and callous to fawn over the runelord’s treasures while they have lost one of their number.
”If we need a way to get out of here without…without Izo, then I can help.” She produces a scroll that she was holding onto. ”It sounded interesting, and we were going on a trip, so I bought it. I thought was never going to need to use it. I wish I had been right.” She takes a too-long swig of the wine in her goblet.
Val folds her arm, tapping her foot as she waits for Iso to come back. ”Come on.” She looks to Kast, as he is the specialist in Knowing Things. ”What spell got cast on him anyways? Where did he go?”
Val almost succumbs to the Runelord’s final spite, but she refuses to let him take anything more away from her. Her instinct was right; thinking about the team instead of her own feelings was what made it possible to finish him.
She rouses at Kast’s question. ”Yes, whatever you Runelord scholars think is best. Speaking of which, should Izo be returning soon?”
Val shakes her head. She let herself get too frustrated. A smarter move would have been to try to catch the runelord with another feint, as with Seamus here, she would open up the runelord to even more devastating blows. She needs to think about the team, not just how she feels.
She moves as if for another array of stabs, but suddenly disengages and flips her blade into a single powerful thrust.
Val has regained her composure, but her fury is still legible in her eyes. She tries to bombard him with attacks at maximum speed and power, discarding caution. ”You will run out of spells before we run out of stabs, Karzie.”
Reflex Save:1d20 + 22 ⇒ (6) + 22 = 28Evades for no damage
Val laughs as another of Karzoug’s spells fail. She has determined that she can almost certainly hit him once at a time and with great power, but she can see how much fight Karzoug has left in him. With him right in here in front of her and Kast. Everyone else is closing in, and if Karzoug is smart, and he is very smart. he will be sodding off in just a moment. This is the moment.
”This is for my girls, you bloody bastard.”
She aims four stabs at his blackened heart. Taking the extra attack from perfect blessing
Val grins as Karzoug loses his spell. ”Sorry, Karzie. Luck be a lady tonight.” She pulls back like she is going to go for a barrage of blows, but she instead goes for a single, perfect lunge, betting that opening up Karzoug’s defenses with a feint is more valuable than flailing against them.
”Oh no! You are not getting away that easily.” She twirls her rapier as she leans back before a lunge. With a pop, she disappears and finishes the lunge right in Karzoug’s face. Using Dimensional Assault
Val suddenly feels the worst hangover she has ever experienced all at once as her entire body is dehydrated incredibly painfully.
Without a second thought, Val flies directly for the runelord himself, disregarding the runegiant for the moment.

She does not bother to say anything more to Karzoug yet, instead letting her blade do the talking.
Val dodges each and every one of the meteors and their explosions, turning the moves into a dance.
She nods as Kast confirms the giants are mind-controlled, throws up a little casual salute to the now-free giant, and shifts her attentions to the rune giant. Remembering how the others they fought saw through her illusory protections, she debates options. She finally pulls out a tanglefoot bag she’s been holding onto for months and tosses it.

Val grins viciously as they arrive inside Karzoug’s lair. Finally, time to take this bastard down once and for all. ”Karzie, Darling! You should know it is not good manners to sit on your throne when important guests come in. You should greet them at the entrance. But I suppose you have never cared about common decency, have you? Too common. Well, do not worry. You shan’t be able to care about anything soon enough.” Val wants desperately to simply dimensionally charge right at Karzoug, but she is wise enough now to recognize how reckless that would be when none of her allies could follow. So, decides to move for one of the closest cloud giants.
Val takes to the air, swooping about in an arc so if the cloud giant takes a swipe at her, she’s at least above solid ground when it happens.
Val shrugs. ”This is why I am not the brains of the operation. I am fine with going ahead if you wish. Your point about Karzie’s spells getting used up, too, is well made.”
Val pulls out her wine goblet and takes a drink, leaning against one of the pillars. Ancient artifacts and multiplanar dimensional whatevers are not her wheelhouse even remotely.
"So. Do you think we should jump right into this or recover our energies first?."
Val is actually getting hurt for once, but she is also feeling extra reckless due to her impaired wisdom, so she does not lose even a touch of momentum.

She cleans off her sword before sheathing it. ”Some fine gear. Worthy of a champion! I might take the ioun stone, but the rest is for all of you to go over.” She nods towards the greedy sword. ”The sword was casting spells on its own. I would be careful about taking it up without precautions.”
Val does some quick assessment, noting that she can take one more hit but probably not two. She pauses her array of stabs to conjure more protective images.
