Almost without thinking he calls upon the gifts of his ancestors and reaches out to touch the creature 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12, sending a wave of healing magic through its body 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 DC 15 Will for half

Valdric almost cheers as the scourges are taken by the sea. Almost, as a heartbeat later Fenn lands and the creatures already on the deck launch their devastating attacks on the crew.

Not trusting his skills enough to fire his crossbow at Fenn through the crowd, he turns to the scourge up the stairs from him and takes another shot.

Valdric trying to shout over the din of the the storm and the battle. "Helm! Hard turn as they swing! Don't let them board!"

Profession:Sailor: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Distracted by his attempt to yell across the ship, the halfelf misses the rhythm of the waves and falls to the deck.

Move Action: Get up from prone (no one adjacent so no AOO)
Attack Action: Fire crossbow at draugr 'up the stairs' from him
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
He manages to get back to his feet and fire off a shot, but he still is struggling for balance and the shot goes well wide of its target.

Valdric curses under his breath as the summoned bird falls under the zombie captain's attack with a final pathetic screech. A quick mental inventory of his spells reveals nothing useful as the storm bears down on the ship, so he desperately swings his quarterstaff once more, surprising himself with the result.

Attack: 1d20 + 0 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 0 + 2 = 22
Confirm: 1d20 + 0 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 0 + 2 = 18

Valdric completes his casting, and with a FWOOSH! an eagle appears above the deck and streaks toward what was once Captain Fenn.

Looking down at his feet to the crossbow he dropped to cast his spell, Valdric knows that bending down to grab it will incur the wrath of the creature before him. Instead he grabs for his quarterstaff and strikes at the thing while it is distracted by Impatiens' introduction.

Silently berating himself for hesitating (but glad he was able to help his friends and crew by asking his ancestors for their blessing), Valdric begins sending a call out across the planes looking for an ally.

At Balthe's warning Valdric makes sure his crossbow is loaded, then readies his wand.

Im assuming its been over an hour so the Mage Armor has worn off, so he will wait til they are a little closer and hit himself with another one before the ship arrives.

Valdric silently watches the exchange. He's not exactly sure why you would fight just for fun, but if it keeps the crew entertained and no one gets truly hurt it's probably a good idea.

Valdric nods his head as he reaches for the pouch on his belt. Drawing out a slender wand, he focuses on it for a few seconds then taps himself on the hand. Looking around the room, he gives a shrug.

"I've got a bad feeling about this.........but let's go."

He glances over at Espy. "Any clues to how that other captain got them, or what happened to that ship?"

Valdric makes a simple hand gesture, something youve seen the superstitous crew make to ward off evil. "He had the Spot before we set sail? I'm surprised the crew didn't mutiny sooner....there is a legend of The Black Spot, a curse said to bring doom to a captain and everything around him."

He looks down at his hands, turning them over to inspect all sides. "If the crew learns about this they will certainly believe the ship is cursed. Legend or not, we are part of this now. I'm guessing Selene knows what happened to get Captain Fenn marked like that, and if we are going to break the curse we are going to need to learn as much as we can."

I was afraid of that because yes, we did get distracted. If you'll allow the retcon, I would have tried to grab it before we left if it was still glowing magic. And since I would want to examine it further when we got back, I would have it tucked away waiting for a few private moments to study it further.

Valdric will assist with preparing the body, mumbling to himself a lot and touching his amulet several times during the process.

If none of the other crew-members are in the cabin as the preparations are made, Valdric will talk about what they found on the ship.

"Probably best to keep things quiet if we can, the crew is on edge enough already. In the morning I can prepare some spells that will help us learn more about anything we find in the chest, but I am more curious about the journal....can anyone read it?"

If I read the post right, the broken blade stopped radiating magic when the captain stood up, right?

Even with his little experience sailing, Valdric knows the dangers of a mutiny, especially to any on board that aren't part of the crew. He stays silent while Balthe examines the captain, but watches the to groups carefully, ready to prevent bloodshed if he can.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 or not.....

He is ready to throw a Misfortune hex at anyone who looks like they are about to attack someone else. He's hoping a missed swing will help prevent he violence from escalating. He is also quite aware that it might just draw the crew's anger toward the party so he's won't use it unless he is VERY sure.

His gaze turns back toward the hold, almost expecting a few of the crew to have risen up like their captain did.

After seeing his hex fail, Valdric quickly runs through his tricks and spells trying to think of what might affect the creature. Not much good I can do here. I need to ask about how to deal with these types of things...

Thinking that they need to end this quickly, he enters the room and aims his arcane energies into helping Impy when the opportunity presents itself.

Move Action: Enter room and move in behind Impy (not in melee with the creature)

Seeing the captain begin to rise from the chair, Valdric moves clear of the doorway to allow others to join Espy in the room, then mumbles a quick spell to aid them all in defeating the creature.
