Kaos will know that he is underwater.

Ironically it is Knowledge (Local) 13 to determine the species of the Large Aquatic Humanoids, and a 15 to know these particular Humanoid's traits. It is a Knowledge (Dungeoneering) 17 to know the Lobster-like creature.

Round Two Start

Leira becomes invisible and moves toward the Large Aquatic Humanoids. Though invisible, she is underwater and her movement creates a bubble under the water. Two of the large Aquatic Humanoids react to her displacement underwater.

Large Aquatic Humanoid 1 must roll over 20 to react to Leira's movement: 1d100 ⇒ 42

Both notice the Rogue Arcanist's movement and take an opportunistic attack. Each one managed to get a claw into Leira.

From the Core Rule Book: Invisibility: An invisible creature displaces water and leaves a visible, body-shaped “bubble” where the water was displaced. The creature still has concealment (20% miss chance), but not total concealment (50% miss chance). Leira takes 13 points of damage.

Leira's Water Elemental continues to slam into the first Large Aquatic Humanoid. Both of its attacks were effective, though not quite enough to stop the Large Aquatic Humanoid.

Kaos pulls out a piercing weapon, his Cold Iron Heavy War Pick. He sticks the first Large Aquatic Humanoid. It goes unconscious. He then turns and strikes the fourth one. The Heavy Pick pierces deep into the Large Aquatic Humanoid's chest. It too falls unconscious.

Both the first and fourth are out of action.

Droja begins a summoning spell.

Almost in a panic now, the remaining two Large Aquatic Humanoids fight for their life.

The second one continues to work on the Large Water Elemental. It viciously disperses the Elemental sending it back to its Plane of Water.

The third takes a five foot swim and goes after the Dragon-like Humanoid. But either simply missed or could not penetrate Kaos' defenses.

Anga cast an empowered Magic Missile at the Lobster-like creature so effectively that she is not immediately attacked by the Crustacean.

I will wait a little for Haskyll's actions before taking the Crustacean's actions. But this is like two battles going on, so everyone can go ahead with what you will do in Round Three.


Going ahead with the Large Aquatic Humanoids actions.

Startled by the sudden appearance of a Large Water Elemental that slams into one of their numbers, three Large Aquatic Humanoids were all close and attack the creature from the Plane of Water with powerful claws.

The first one disperses some of the Water Elemental with a wicked swash from its right claw. The second one tears into Water Elemental with a rending attack that would have done more damage to just about everything else. But Elementals are resistant to such extra damage from attacks.

The fourth one also was successful with its attacks against the Water Elemental.

The third one swims above the other three and throws a javelin at the Water Elemental. But the pointy stick did little damage to the Elemental.

The second Rock Troll stands from it fall and tries to climb the pit's vertical wall. The creature attempts to climb out of the pit, but is unable to get a good grip and remains at its bottom.

The Manticore takes the full brunt of Anga's Fireball.

Almost as a reaction, the Manticore fires a volley of four spikes down at the Dwarf Wizard.

I am thinking that three of the spikes hit Anga for 24 points of damage. I know the Crit was not confirmed. Does a 19 hit Anga? If so, then it is 32 points of damage.

The Manticore flies up higher.

It is now at 200'. Haskyll's and Leira's actions will complete the Round.


Thanks Anga for the reminder. Dwarves get the +4 AC from Scrags. The Scrag missed Ulfgard in the previous round.

Round One Finish

Ulfgard takes a step and attacks the sixth Scrag. He pounds the muddy creature with Agrimmosh.

Round Two

Leira, with a magically charged arrow, fires her bow. The bristling shaft sticks deep into the fourth Scrag.

Ulfgard flips his shield in place and continues to work on the sixth Scrag. The Dwarf Ranger Barbarian pounds, pounds, and bashes the Scrag until it fall over.

Ragnir moves to engage the first and third Scrags.

Both Scrags attack the Dwarf Warpriest as he approaches. But they missed the well armored Dwarf.

(The Scrag rolled an 18 and missed. These six should be easy work for the party.)

Kaos moves up unhindered. He doesn't remove the third trolls head, but he does cut deep into the creature with Gorum's Thorn.

Haskyll moves up and readies Heartspit.

The first Scrag, turns around, steps back, and attempts to vanquish the fiery creature. But it only hits Ignan with a claw.

The fifth Scrag moves up and sees Haskyll's Scale Mail. It becomes fearful of the situation as it attacks the Dwarf Warpriest. But the creature still manages to bite into Ragnir, though not critically.

Anga's Round Two and Everyone's Round Three

Round One

Leira notices six creatures rising out of the mud. The sixth one has partial cover from the more solid land. But the second one rises out of the muck in clear view. The Rogue Arcanist blasts this second one with a pair of Scorching Rays. It howls in pain from the burning attack.

Ulfgard notices all of the creatures.

(The perception roll occurs before the Round, so Ulfgard can also take a Round One set of actions.)

Ragnir's Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

Ragnir become a Deadly Juggernaut when he sees multiple creatures around him.

Droja's Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29

Droja notices everything, "Great. This keeps getting better."

The Half-Orc Oracle begins to weave a spell to bring in a little help for the situation.

Kaos will notice the closest ones. He then brings up a Shield.

Haskyll also notices them all. He says a Prayer. Always a good thing to do. He then readies Heartspit.

The first muddy creature notices Haskyll. He sees the Dwarf's Scale Mail, but shakes off its effect. Hunger is motivating this creature more. It attacks Ulfgard.

I believe it gets a claw into Ulfgard for 5 points of damage.

The second muddy creature has already had enough. It retreats into the muddy bog. Frog and insects are plenty for it.

The third muddy creature moves up next to the first. It too notices Haskyll, but this one becomes tentative in its attacks. It feels a sense of doom coming over it. As a result, its attack misses the Dwarf Ranger Barbarian.

Anga only notices the first muddy creature at first. She brings up a Shield as she sees more of the muddy creatures rising out of the muck and toward the party.

The Stone Giant responds to Leira, "Bidea iritsi zenean, mendebaldean dagoen bailara bat da. Katedrala amaierara iritsi da. Ez dakit katedralaren sarrera sekretu bat. Hurbilketa hori babesten duten erraldoi ugari daude. Hementxe izango zara hara joaten saiatzen bazara." The Stone Giant pauses to consider the question about the shrine, "Ez dago defentsarik ermitan. Gutxienez inork jakitea."

"Back the way you came is a valley to the west. The Cathedral is toward its end. I do not know of any secret entrance to the Cathedral. There are plenty of giants that guard the approach. You will all die if you try to go there." The Stone Giant pauses then responds further,
"There are no defenses at shrine. At least none that I am aware."

Are the giants speaking Basque? :)

First things first. Combined Leira will find in large sack-sized pouches, 330 pp, 1746 gp, a Carnelian (65 gp), a Citrine (60 gp), a piece of Coral (110 gp), an Ivory (55 gp), and a Topaz (550 gp). In another sack, the party will find a medium-sized robe.

The least hurt of the Stone Giants will become conscious and respond to Leira, "Mesedez, ez hiltzeko. Zure galdera erantzungo dizut. Urathash-era bidali gintuzten pasabidea eta zuzeneko karguak katedralera eramateko. Hegoaldera Fandarrako ermita dago. Joko ona haranetan dago. Gure senide askok hemen eta Katedralera zuzentzen ditugu."

Giant:
"Please, do not kill me. I will answer your questions. We were sent here by Urathash to guard the passes and direct recruits to the Cathedral. To the southeast is the shrine of Fandarra. The game is good in these valleys. Many of our kin waunder here, and we direct them to the Cathedral."

The other unconscious Stone Giant will not be able to come around without healing.

Haskyll's Round One

Haskyll ask for a Blessing of Fervour over the party.

Round Two

With the first Stone Giant held, Kaos begins to work on this now helpless monstrosity. Hastily he drives Gorum's Thorn through Stone Giant flesh. Once, twice, and the big humanoid topples over like a tree. Laying unconscious on the massive bridge, the Stone Giant begins to bleed out.

Kaos then takes a step and cuts deep into the second Stone Giant. The attack barely missed a vital organ. In dragon-kin form, Kaos also sinks his teeth into the Stone Giant's massive thigh. The flesh and blood is bitter in Kaos's mouth.

Leira, seeing the third giant held, sends a pair of magically fused arrows at the helpless Stone Giant.

Ragnir grips his Frost Mace and rushes across the bridge is a hasted manner.

Ulfgard closes the gap and delivers a massive blow to the held third Stone Giant. Like the first one before, it slips into unconsciousness and tumbles over in the opposite direction of the Ranger Barbarian's mighty blow.

The last Stone Giant steps back and swings its mighty stone club and the puny dragon-like humanoid. It totally misses Kaos with its initial swipe, but catches the Dragon Disciple in its back-swing.

Two of the Stone Giants step out onto bridge and hurl rocks at Kaos.

After the Fire Elemental appears, the large wolf changes into another larger, stranger canine, with paws more like hands. It howls at the fiery creature.

"Go away little fire man. You do not belong here. There are Dwarves and Humans about. They will make quite the feast."

Round Two

Haskyll steps up to drive Heartspit into the animated flora. But the plant's tough exterior resists the thrust.

Frustrated, Leira takes bow in hand and sticks the plant beast with an arrow.

Anga fires a pair of Scorching Rays at Seymour. One burns the plant, the other singes through it.

Kaos trims the hedges with two effective strikes.

Ragnir's Spiritual Weapon strikes.

Then the Dwarf Warpriest tries to pound on the appendage engulfing Ulfgard. His first blow glances off the plant, but his second one damages flora.

A third appendage strikes Ragnir, grappling the Dwarf Warpriest.

Round Three

It is nearly finished. Anyone that post with enough damage to drop the Flytrap, I will recap the battle's finale.


As Leira barely manages to escape, the huge plant monster moves with ease amongst the overgrown vegetation. It then strikes Ulfgard.

Plant Monster Grapple attempt: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (9) + 22 = 31

Ulfgard was the only one it could reach. He takes 11 points of damage and he now has the grappled condition.

Ulfgard, please go ahead with your actions. I will then recap and play Ragnir's character, unless he is able to post between now and then.


As the perceptive Leira moves through the vines and overgrown inner part of the abandoned temple, the Rogue Arcanist finds amongst the vegetation something that appears to be a limbless trunk with the branching roots of a miniature tree. Her keen eye notices that this is not a natural plant. It is about two feet long, too small to be a tree, too short to be a staff, and too long to be a wand. She will carefully pick it up and stow the unique object as she further explores the giant temple.

Leira works her way further through the ever thickening mass of vegetation and debris, mostly from the collapsed roof. She finds nothing in the front of the massive dais. But as she moves to check behind the dais, the tangle of vines and vegetation comes alive and quickly attacks the Rogue Arcanist as she approaches.

Surprise Round

This towering plant is a mass of vines and barbs. It strikes the flat-footed Rogue Arcanist with one of its toothy maws. The toothy maw wraps around Leira.

Map updated. I kept the party together, and left the mule tethered outside. You can, of course, change this. The party takes the initiative. So everyone go ahead with your Round One actions. Remember, everything is difficult terrain, so any movement toward the plant monster will provoke an attack of opportunity. I suggest zooming a couple or more times to really look at the situation on the map.


Round Five Start

Leira pumps two more arrows into the hapless fourth Troll. It slumps over unconscious or dead. It is hard to tell with Trolls.

Seeing the third Troll's flesh flinch, Haskyll hits the creature with an Acid Dart. The Dwarf Cleric then moves toward the last remaining Troll standing.

I took the liberty to fill out Haskyll's actions in light of the Fourth Troll falling.

The third Troll continues to flinch. Ragnir adds acid to his Frost Mace, takes a step, and strikes down hard on the defenseless Troll. It stops flinching.

Troll Reflex Save versus Burning: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

The last Troll standing avoids catching fire, then claws at Droja's Fire Elemental. A Troll claw slices through the elemental creature. It dissipates. The Troll then advances further down the narrow trail.

Troll 1 Claw 1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 171d6 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

"It is a good thing that there is a bunch of you from that hellish place," Droja summons in a third Fire Elemental. It attacks the last standing Troll from behind, slamming into the last Troll.

The nearly blind Oracle moves behind a pile of rocks.

Anga has one Troll left to take heroic actions against.

In light of the first Troll moving closer, I did not move Kaos in this Round as all of his movements would be through difficult terrain and provoke an AoO.

Ulfgard charges and splatters the skull of the fourth fallen Troll. The blow was so severe that the Troll dies.

Round Three. Well, mostly.

Backing up into the wood line, Leira pumps a pair of arrows into the fourth Troll. It howls in pain, but does not fall.

With the huge giantess down, Haskyll shifts his attention to the forth Troll. He moves a bit south and tries to skewer the greenie meanie, but was unable to plant his feet solid enough for and effective strike.

Ragnir becomes even more heroic.

When Haskyll approaches the fourth Troll, both the third and fourth Trolls notice the armor the Dwarf Cleric is wearing.

Troll 4 Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Troll 3 Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

The fourth Troll, already in pain from being Leira's pin cushion, sees Haskyll wearing the Nail Mail. It sees Heartspit. Then it notices the Steel Hand. It turns and runs. It flees around a pile of rocks in the middle of the fast moving stream. It stumbles over a fallen tree that lays like a bridge on the south side of the stream and the pile of rocks. Howling in pain, the fourth Troll finds itself face down in the stream, the fallen tree above it.

Troll 4 Stumble chance DC15 Reflex save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

The fourth Troll has the prone condition.

Undeterred by Haskyll's appearance, the third Troll moves up and attacks the steel-handed Dwarf. It sinks a fang into Haskyll. The taste of Dwarf flesh laps over its tongue. It gets excited.

The second Troll fights around the trees to get to the Dwarf Warpriest. But none of the attacks were successful against the well-armored Ragnir.

The first Troll moves closer to the party.

Seeing this first Troll moving closer toward the party, Droja gives it something to slow it down. A human-sized Fire Elemental appears in the trail and slams against the first Troll. It gets in the way more than dealing any real damage.

Anga fires a Magic Missile at the nearest standing Troll.

(That would be Troll 2 at this point in the action.)

Kaos turns a spews forth fire at the second Troll. It hollers in pain as the trees and underbrush become singed. The fallen first small Troll dies.

With the big giantess dead, Ulfgard moves against the newest threat, the third Troll. But as the Dwarf Ranger Barbarian approaches the third Troll it takes a swipes at Ulfgard. A sharp claw cuts into the brave Dwarf.

Ragnir's Round One

Ragnir heroically moves foreward.

Round Two

Leira steps away and sinks a pair of arrows into the fourth Troll.

Another smaller Troll appears out of the woods. It moves behind Ragnir and tries to bite the Dwarf Warpriest. It is not that much smaller. However, it does seem tentative in its bite attempt.

Red Troll 1 Bite: 1d20 + 5 - 2 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 5 - 2 - 1 = 151d4 + 31 ⇒ (4) + 31 = 35

Startled by the dragon-like humanoid's fire breath, it steps up and attacks hoping to quickly end the threat.

If the Huge Giant survives Haskyll's initiative, it takes a step back and goes after its new threat, a Dwarf Ranger Barbarian.

Ufgard will either kill the Huge Giant, or move and drops the fourth Troll.

Surprise Round

Leira uses her Rod to cast an extended Haste on the party.

Haskyll says a Prayer.

Droja begins to weave a spell.

Ragnir touches each member of the party with a communal Protection from Evil.

Anga finds and pulls out a scroll.

Kaos puts up a magic Shield.

Ulfgard cast Longstrider.

Round One

A hasty Leira moves up drawing her bow. She sees a Troll in the moonlight across a fast running creek. She fires and arrow striking the hideous creature.

The party hardly notices two smaller Troll disappearing into the tree line.

Haskyll Steelhand moves up and readies Heartspit.

Ragnir does something heroic.

The massive giant moves off the big rock in a bound and goes after the Steelhand not immediately noticing the Nail Mail in the dark light.

But the Steelhand drives Heartspit into the huge female giant.

Fazed more by Heartspit than the Nail Mail, it clobbers the Steelhand with a massive greatclub.

Huge Female Giant Will Save less Prayer: 1d20 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (16) + 6 - 1 = 21

The Trolls move toward the party. The fourth one bites at Leira.

Droja hesitates before summoning in a medium Fire Elemental that moves to attacks the huge female giant. The Oracle moves up closer to the action just to see her newly summoned Fire Elemental bludgeoned out of existence. The Fire Elemental dissipates.

Anga brings up a Shield.

Kaos moves up and uses his special ability. A cone of fire breathes out of his mouth. It strikes the huge giant. But it also strikes a Troll that had disappeared into the trees. The smaller Troll becomes visible as it begins to scream within the trees.

The other trolls begin to move toward the party. The fourth moves up an attacks the approaching Leira. It stumbles across the water, and is unable to bite.

The huge female giant moves down the rock as though it was a walkway. It approaches the Dwarf that has just moved up. It speaks in Giant, but is easy understood by all, "I like Dwarves!" A mummified Dwarf skull hangs upon a chain around her neck.

The Dwarf Cleric skewers the huge female giant. The giant howls in pain, and takes a swing at Haskyll Steelhand.

Huge Giant Greatclub: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (7) + 16 = 233d8 + 16 ⇒ (8, 8, 3) + 16 = 35

Please confirm whether this hits Haskyll. If it does, he takes 35 points of damage. OUCH!

Anga and Haskyll Round Three

Anga hits the Rift Drake with a Force Missile.

Haskyll moves to a position to provide healing to the party without healing the Rift Drake.

I added a blue bubble on the map centered on Haskyll. Every one but Anga will be affected. The Channel Energy does stop the bleed affect for both Kaos and Ulfgard.

The mule, seemingly oblivious to the action near her, finds a tuff of grass peaking through the snow to nibble upon.

Round Four

With its wing damaged, the Rift Drake gives all that it has left. It moves back five feet and musters up another glob of gooey acid. It sprays the party with this viscous goo.

Rift Drake's Clinging Corrosion: 5d10 ⇒ (10, 1, 6, 5, 5) = 271d4 ⇒ 4

Everyone, except Anga, must roll a DC20 Reflex save for half damage (13 points) and no slow effect. Otherwise, you take 27 points of damage are are slowed for 4 Rounds.

Leira has the next action and have posted it. I will go ahead and roll her reflex save as we are nearing the end of this encounter.

Leira's Reflex Save: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22

Leira evades the Rift Drake's Corrosive Acid. She then fires an arrow that nearly severs a vital artery. And though the strike was not critical, it was enough to cause the big lizard to slip into unconsciousness.

Though the Rift Drake has fallen unconscious, the party, except Anga, still needs to roll their saving throws, as you are in a particularly hostile environment. No one would have fallen from the Rift Drake's final attack, some of the party members may be hurt.

Rift Drakes are powerful flyers. But with a heavy spear lodged in its wings, its aerial acumen is diminished.

Fly with Pilum 15 + 10 = 25: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (7) + 14 = 21

With an additional surge of energy, the Rift Drake works to overcome the Pilum's drag on its wing.

Fly with Pilum 15 + 10 = 25: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (14) + 14 = 28

Three times per day, as a Swift action, Rift Drake's can take an extra move action in a Round. I took the Swift action to see if the Rift Drake manages to fly instead of fall from the sky.

It regains flight and swoops down to the ground near the now Enlarged Ulfgard.

With a combination of fear and anger, the Rift Drake attacks the over-sized Dwarf, taking another chunk out of Ulfgard.

Bleed condition:
A creature that is taking bleed damage takes the listed amount of damage at the beginning of its turn. Bleeding can be stopped by a DC 15 Heal check or through the application of any spell that cures hit point damage (even if the bleed is ability damage). Some bleed effects cause ability damage or even ability drain. Bleed effects do not stack with each other unless they deal different kinds of damage. When two or more bleed effects deal the same kind of damage, take the worse effect. In this case, ability drain is worse than ability damage.
The Rift Drake has a ten foot reach. It returns to 40 feet above the ground.


The party recovers from the affects of Rift Drake's Clinging Corrosion.

Haskyll begins to heal Ulfgard then Kaos before the party takes off toward the cave opening.

The snow begins to fall so heavily that it quickly covers any ground not directly under trees.

The party begins to track down the rift toward the cave entrance. As the party approaches the cave, from the dark flies out its mated pair. It soars about 40 feet above the floor of this box canyon.

Round Two

Ulfgard pulls out a vial and drinks its contents. The healing substance halts Ulfgard's bleeding and provide a bit of restoration as well.

Haskyll calls forth holy light, but the Searing Light missed under the large flying lizrad.

Another Dire Bat appears in front of the Rift Drake. It snaps at the dragon-like creature.

Droja begins to weave another spell.

Kaos cast True Strike on himself.

Ragnir invokes his Righteous Armor ability from his Righteous Half Plate. He becomes large like Ulfgard. He then pulls out his longhammer.

If I am not mistaken, activating the powers of the armor requires a standard action. You could not also attack with the longhammer in the same round. You would have missed anyway.

Unlike true Dragons, Drakes lack a key abiltiy, Intelligence. The sudden appearance of the Dire Bat confuses the flying creature. It hovers, then bites, and tail slaps the Dire Bat. Easy come, easy go. The Dire Bat shimmers and is gone.

Anga and Round Three


Round One

Ulfgard becomes a giant Dwarf. (Talk about an oxymoron!) Slowly he lumbers over and on to a huge tree that has fallen into the nearby rift. He gets a good look at the great Drake.

A Slowed Haskyll brings forth healing that nearly restores all the damage, but it does not speed up the party.

Droja , not affected by the glob of acid, begins to summon in some help.

Kaos Slowly pulls out a plum, oops, I mean, a pilum.

To be slowed or not to be slowed, that is the question for Ragnir.

Seeing the giant Dwarf approach, the big Drake, takes the bait. The creature is an adept flyer and makes an agile maneuver taking both a bite and a tail slap at the now over-sized Ranger Barbarian. From about ten feet above Ulfgard, the Drake sinks its serrated teeth into the Dwarf, ripping out painful sections of flesh. It then hits Ulfgard with a near critical strike on his now over-sized legs. Though not a critical strike, the tail slap attack was enough to cause Ulfgard to lose his balance and fall off the tree trunk and into the Rift below. The now over-sized Dwarf does not take any damage from the fall. The Rift Drake, now twenty feet above, looks down on to the Dwarf. The rest of the party is now ten feet above Ulfgard.

Haskyll uses a couple of charges off of a wand and provides healing to Ulfgard.

Surprise Round

Coming up from a vast deep ravine is a savage and brutal horror bent on nothing short of destruction.

Ulfgard drinks a potion.

Seeing something big flying toward them, Haskyll brings even greater healing to Ulfgard.

Droja realizes she will getting nothing useful out of the stupid heads of the Ettin.

Kaos looks at Droja to see if she gets anything useful from the Ettin.

Seeing the threat, Ragnir provides Badger's Fury to Kaos and Haskyll's weapons.

The creature spits a glob from its mouth. It explodes upon impact around much of the party.

Everyone but Leira and the mule must role a DC20 Reflex save or take 19 points of damage; and become Slow as per the spell for 4 rounds. If you save you only take 9 points of damage, and you are not Slowed.

Leira begins to cast a spell. Being outside of the radius of the breath weapon (noted on map), Leira was not distracted in casting the Enlarge spell on Ulfgard.

Anga identifies the creature as a Rift Drake. She then draws out a wand.

Everyone is up.


The dead Cyclops does not reply to Kaos.


Kaos takes the full force of the strange but powerful Eye Blast.

Kaos takes on a fierce dragon like visage and charges forward with greatsword in hand and anger burning in his eyes. But the Cyclops takes a mighty swing at the Dragon Disciple, "Gsurak confused. What a strange little creature. I wonder how it will taste." The Cyclops' huge Greataxe hacks into Kaos, leaving the Dragon Disciple bloodied. Oh wait! This is not fourth edition.

Cyclops AoO: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (13) + 17 = 304d6 + 13 ⇒ (2, 3, 5, 2) + 13 = 25

Kaos takes another 25 points of damage.

Kaos fights through the pain and delivers a punishing strike himself against the Cyclops.

Ragnir takes the full force of the Eye Blast as well, then double times it behind Kaos to engage the monstrosity.

Droja moves behind a stand of trees. She tries again to place a Hold on the Cyclops. The huge humanoid freezes in place.

Anga strikes the huge humanoid with a Magic Missile.

The Villagers stop to take in the action, for this is better than the Coleseum Morpheuon. Well....almost.

Then with fire burning in Leira's hands that then spreads forth in the form of two Scorching Rays that leaps towards the Cyclops' great eye. The first ray strikes the head and eye solidly. The second does damage too.

Ulfgard, with a little extra spring in his step, reaches and clobbers the held Cyclops with Agrimmosh.

Haskyll moves toward the big one-eyed, yellow-skinned, burly people eater.

Cyclops will save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

The Cyclops comes around letting out a terrible roar, "My eye!"

One can never underestimate the power of Prayer. Without divine guidance Droja's spell would have failed. But as it is, the huge Cyclops is held in place.


Round One

Kaos will put up a Shield and charge towards the one eyed monster, yelling at the beast to get its attention.

Ragnir moves to follow Kaos, adding noise to the din that Kaos is making. He sets his shield and gets ready to dodge any incoming rocks. His axe is ready though, should the thing get close enough

Droja casts Hold Person on the towering one-eyed giant. It fails to slow down the huge humanoid.

Anga will recognize this is not a more common variety of Cyclops. It is a Jotunblood Cyclops. Legend has it that this variety shoots out death rays from its eyes.

The Dwarf Wizard pulls out a scroll and brings up a Shield to protect herself.

The Villagers keep running.

The Cyclops briefly hesitates when he sees more prey. (Moving its initiative to the end of the round.)

Leira heroically Dimension Slides in front of the fleeing villagers. She too taunts the Cyclops.

Ulfgard moves up next to Kaos with an extra length in his step.

Haskyll brings up a prayer while moving back away from the party.

The Cyclops then moves toward to the yelling little people. It notes the Rogue-Arcanist movements and comment. But it is looking for numbers. A beam of energy comes out from the Cyclops one great eye toward Kaos and the front of the party.

Anga will likely think, "Imagine that, the legends are true."

The last Ettercap continues to defend its master. The first of Droja's spiders returns to the plane it came from. The last Ettercap takes a step through the webs like solid ground, and goes after the second of Droja's spiders.

Seeing other spiders appear and attack their master, the remaining Ettercaps go after the spiders.

The first Ettercap moves and goes after the third new Giant Spider, but does not taste spider goo.

Attempting again to bottle up the front of the approaching invaders, the webs animate again around Leira and Kaos.

The spider attacks Leira, but continues to miss the nimble Rogue Arcanist.

Ragnir attacks the Mother of the Black Widows, but his blow glanced off the big spiders hairy hide.

With all the Ettercaps, dead or dying, Leira, emboldened by her previous arrow strike, sends a shaft toward the big Mother of the Black Widows. The arrow sticks into the big Spider, but the hairy monstrosity does not fall.

The Mother of the Black Widow bites the female Dwarf Ranger Ingrihild. But the hardy Dwarf was only a little injured by the bite.

Victory!

Anga's Fireballs cleared the way before the entrance to the obelisk and tomb. The interior of the obelisk houses a flight of narrow and precariously steep stairs descending into a dark shaft that plummets to an unknown depth within the earth. The passing years have crusted the walls and stairs with overlapping rings of yellow and pale green lichen.

What does the party do next? I am about to load a new map, Steelhand's Tomb. The scale is really small. I put Leira's token on the board to scale, so that you can see it. You will need to zoom in on this one.


The fourth Ettercap steps up, biting and clawing at the big human. But all the attacks either missed or were deflected.

The fifth Ettercap moves through the web like it were clear terrain. It moves up and attacks Umlo. But the purple creature's assault was weak and ineffective.

The Black Widows advance firing their stick webs at the party. The first one fires at Ragnir. The fourth one and the Mother fire their webs at Umlo. Clearly these Black Widows are more used to using their webs to build structure than anything else.

Surprise Round

Leira sticks the second Ettercap with a sneaky arrow shot.

Umlo advances.

Anga does a Fizban on the web and several of its occupants. Flames engulf the second Ettercap. The second Black Widow Spider drops behind a mass of webbing, escaping the full brunt of the Fireball. The third Black Widow Spider takes the full brunt.

Droja brings up a Shield of Faith.

Kaos brings up a Shield, while inquiring about the nature of the creatures.

Ingrihild responds to Kaos, and calls out that the purple creatures are in fact Ettercaps. Then seeing the first Ettercap fall, the female Dwarf Ranger fires into the burning web at the third Black Widow Spider. It stops shaking and dies.

Haskyll says a Prayer over the party. The party is invigorated. The enemies feel a sense of dread.

Again +1 for the party. -1 for the GM. The creatures do not have an SR.

Round One

The first Orc hacks with its Falchion. No surprise that it missed.

The left female Ogre takes her massive greatclub and swings at Ulfgard.

The right Ogre moves up and misses Umlo.

The three big-bellied Ogres move up and silently swings a wicked looking quarterstaff at Ulfgard.

Realizing that his verbal component is no longer working, the big bellied Ogre silently curses. He then take a step toward Umlo, pulls out a javelin, and hurls it toward the poorly shaved Dwarf. It turns into a lightning bolt.

Javelin of Lightning: 5d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 6, 3, 4) = 21

Umlo, Kaos, Ulfgard, Ingrahild, Haskyll and Droja must a DC 14 Reflex save or take 21 points of damage. 10 points of damage if you make your saving throw.

The sixth Orc steps up and attacks Umlo. (Umlo gets an AoO.)

Umlo was ready and hacks at the sixth Orc mustering a smile through the despair. Umlo kills the Orc.

The second Orc flanks Umlo. Its attack was close, but not close enough.

The third Orc flanks Umlo as well. It nearly fumbles its weapon out of its hand.

A Giant Bat suddenly appears flying over the unconscious body of the first Dire Wolf. It attacks Kaos, the tallest target. But it fails to bite the big human.

The remaining two Dire Wolves continue their assault on Kaos. But both were, again, unable to sink their teeth into the big human.

The Orcs release the Dire Wolves. They attack the first one through the door. The first one bites into Kaos' right thigh. The big human trips and falls.

The last fighting Orc swings it Falchion feebly. It misses the comparable sized humans.
