I am posting this to all of my games, so apologies if you see this multiple times:

Unfortunately, I have some bad news.

A combination of work-related stuff has lead to me having to take some time off from the forums. I am, in all honesty, going to need to be gone for several months, as I am going to be travelling for extended periods of time (weeks or more) and I'll likely not have good access to the internet.

As I am not someone who would want to have you all sit and wait for me here, I am going to be withdrawing/closing all of my open forum games.

I want to thank everyone who I have had the pleasure to game with over the last couple of years here, as I have immensely enjoyed my time on the forums, and hopefully, once my work stabilizes, I will be able to rejoin the community.

Thank you again for your time and energy, and I am sorry that I won't be able to keep things moving forward in any of the games that I am running.

And me. I was here from the beginning too!

In all seriousness, over the years I have played in a variety of Default's games, and they were always exemplary. He is a superb GM.

Skuld is momentarily taken aback by the charge of the Goblin creatures, but she quickly uses the car as a combination battering ram and baseball bat, using it to clear a side to climb out into the courtyard proper.

Bellowing, as she catches one of the Goblins in her right hand (her left now holding the somewhat demolished car), she tossed him into a pack of his encroaching comrades, knocking them down like bowling pins.

Finally having a moment to catch her breath, Skuld bellows out to the castle before her "I am Skuld, daughter of Thor, and I hereby accept the challenge of your assault on the city I have vowed to defend. Let your leader come and face me, that we might battle toe-to-toe and eye-to-eye. Should you flee in fear, I shall rain divine vengeance down upon your castle the likes of which you have never seen before!"

Provoke Someone: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 5) + 3 = 14 I am provoking the leader to come and face me in combat.

Just wanted to say that I am back, but I'm not going to be able to get a post up until tomorrow.

Labels: None I Have Influence on: No One Danger: 0, Freak: +2, Savior: -1, Superior: +3, Mundane: -1

So I am posting from work:
Apologies about not posting sooner, but I have been down internet wise for roughly a week, and will not have internet back up yet for a week or so.
This means that I haven't had internet for the last 4 days (as we had 4 days off at my work for the holiday).
It's been...an experience where I learned that I use the internet more than I thought I did.
With all of that being said, I will try to post from work as I can, but if I am in your game, please bot me as needed.
If I am running your game, please bear with me while I try to post when I can. Hopefully, sooner than better, but I want to be up front about this issue.
again, I apologize about the delay.

Alexandra:

"I am truly blessed, and thus do not need trinkets to make me happy. As for Jusker, I would suggest perhaps some clothing? People from Midgard do seem to be rather...taken with it."

Skuld is one of those rare people who really don't need anything.

"I do not know what that amount of coin will purchase, but I believe that I can get something for whoever it is that I am selected to get."

Deciding that the quickest route to dealing with the situation would be to deal with the castle, Skuld flies high above it, then drops, relying on her magically-forged boots to absorb what impact that would effect her, with the idea being that she would become like a siege projectile.

Choosing not to take life if she can help it, she picks her landing spot in the courtyard, between the walls and the main building of the castle itself, and off the path.

Skuld totally does the superhero landing, modified by holding an empty car in one hand.

Jumping back in now!

As the castle floated into view Skuld snatched up one of the damaged cars that were free of passengers and took to the air with it, rising until she was level with the floating castle, then higher still.

Skuld began looking for the most appropriate place to launch an attack on the castle.

Assess: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 6) + 3 = 11

how could we best end this quickly? who here is most vulnerable to me?

Posting this to all my games, so sorry if you see it multiple times:

This week both my office and I personally are going to be moving. It's been crazy busy and I am not going to be able to post until Monday at the earliest. Please bot me if I am in your game, and if you are in a game I am running, I will get a post up as soon as possible.

"<<I have no affinity with magic either, although my Grandfather is a master mage.>>" says Skuld over the comms.

Labels: None I Have Influence on: No One Danger: 0, Freak: +2, Savior: -1, Superior: +3, Mundane: -1

As Browyn and Shayera begin to react, Skuld does the same, although instead of heading into Shayera's apartment, Skuld uses her strength to lift her body off the railing and the shoves herself off. As she is falling, the silver light forms around her, and when it dissolves, she is wearing her armor. She uses her ability to control the air to lift herself up and begin flying towards the nearest set of enemies.

Unleash Your Powers: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 5) + 3 = 10

Seeing a robot stomp towards a family that is trying to flee in a car that won't start, Skuld again uses gravity to her advantage, only this time she lands with a crash between the car and the robot.

Using her strength, she kicks the rear of the car away from the robot, getting it out of the immediate area, and then just has time to react as the robot reaches down to smash her.

Catching it's fist, she uses it's forward momentum to begins spinning her body like a log, all while rising into the air. Once she had built up enough centripital force she flung the creature into the stratosphere, calling upon her winds to help it along.

"<<Woah, I'm dizzy.>>" she said over the comms, not realizing they had turned on.

Bronwyn Pascal wrote:
"So with the clothes and the fitting room... The world feels like it's not quite built to the correct scale, right? Like you literally don't fit in it?"

"That is certainly part of it, yes, but I have also been trying to assimilate to Midgard norms, as I have been told that I 'stand out' and that this is a bad thing. It seems that the cultural norm for females here is to be small and skinny, and I am neither of those things. I still do not fully understand your ways, but I am making an effort to make others more comfortable with my presence."

Shayera wrote:
"Say, speaking of, what do you think of the capes who showed up at the robot-monster fight? Apex, we met earlier. Then there's the latest Silver Shadow, who could give us some cred if she joined. The other two guys, what were your thoughts on them?"

"I think that Apex is a bit full of himself, which I believe masks a deep self-doubt; he feels that he is not quite good enough to stand toe-to-toe with us, and so he relies heavily on his intelligence to make up for that. The man named Shadowboxer seems like he might be of use, but he lacks discipline; Jusker seems to be at war with himself, and I do not know enough about this Silver Shadow woman, except that she behaves like some of the more popular girls at our school: she seems to believe that everything should act in accordance with her wishes."

"Your home is quite nice." says Skuld as she looks around Shayera's apartment. On the balcony, Skuld takes her seat on the railing with the others.

"I love the view from this height. It reminds me of hot nights in Asgard, where I would alight on a roof and just drink in the view."

Not so different after all: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 1) + 2 = 4

Skuld stares nostalgically off into the distance, almost dozing. By the time she realizes what she is doing, she's already mostly done speaking.

"I don't like enclosed spaces. I was once swallowed by a Rendwyrm, and it took my father hours to get me out. It was the worst time of my life, and ever since then, I haven't felt very good with being restricted or tied down. It's why I panicked in the fitting room. I was never ashamed of my body before I came to Midgard." she finishes, looking down at her feet.

That's an advancement for me, too. I'm going to take a There when it matters from the Bull playbook.

Skuld takes the swimsuit offered and tries it on, which after stepping out of the dressing room appears to be a better fit. AFter redressing, she takes it with her to the register.

"Thank you both. I...thank you." is all she can muster the words to say.

Labels: None I Have Influence on: No One Danger: 0, Freak: +2, Savior: -1, Superior: +3, Mundane: -1

Skuld pulls her shirt back on and then her skirt.

Labels: None I Have Influence on: No One Danger: 0, Freak: +2, Savior: -1, Superior: +3, Mundane: -1

"I am embarrassed about how big I am." says Skuld as quietly as she can.

"It's too small. It doesn't cover everything, and it's uncomfortable."

Labels: None I Have Influence on: No One Danger: 0, Freak: +2, Savior: -1, Superior: +3, Mundane: -1

When Bronwyn opens the door, Skuld is holding her skirt up in front of her, but the mirrors on all sides blunt the effect. She is holding out the swimsuit by the straps and blushing furiously, which is odd given her previous speech about nudity.

Labels: None I Have Influence on: No One Danger: 0, Freak: +2, Savior: -1, Superior: +3, Mundane: -1

"The uhh….actually, it looks like both parts." if someone could sound embarrassed, Skuld would.

"I still don't see the need, but if you want me to wear one, I shall." says Skuld, grabbing the first swimsuit off the rack and going into the dressing room with it. It is a simple two-piece bikini with a floral pattern not unlike those you might see painted on the walls of some swimming pools.

After a few moments, Skuld calls out from the dressing room "Are there any bigger ones? This does not fit me."

Labels: None I Have Influence on: No One Danger: 0, Freak: +2, Savior: -1, Superior: +3, Mundane: -1

Skuld blinks and says "Oh, uhh…" and then looks at Shayera.

After an almost uncomfortable moment of silence spent staring at Shayera, Skuld says "I believe that many men will find you attractive in that garment." and then gives a thumbs up, though she seems unsure of the gesture.

"I think you look rapturous." offers Skuld, clearly blushing.

Reviving one of my all-time favorite jokes below:

Skuld still seems confused: it's not that she doesn't get what both Bronwyn and Shayera are saying, but it's like someone trying to explain that you can taste color.

Shayera wrote:
"You have to be kidding, right? Doesn't Asgard have bathhouses? Hot springs? Led Zeppelin sure thinks so. A hot tub is just an indoor hot spring."

"Of course we have hot springs and bath houses in Asgard, but I had not heard the word before; also, where is the Zepplin being led to, or is this one of those things that seem to say one thing but say another?"

Skuld appeared to be about to say more, and then Bronwyn stepped out, and all thought went sprinting from her mind like they had superpowers of their own.

"Do you not just swim in the nude here? Among my people, clothing is not meant to be worn while swimming, as it can cause you to drag while trying to swim, and is tiring."

Bronwyn wrote:
"Skuld, did you think we were going to get into the hot tub while we were still in our normal clothes?"

"Are not all tubs here hot or cold?"

Bronwyn wrote:
"Skuld, Shayera. Help. I can't pick."

"I think the one with the straps would look fetching on you, although frankly I don't see the appeal in clothing made to go swimming in." offers Skuld as she looks through the swimsuits in the "big and tall" section. "I wonder that you wear swim clothing at all, given how small these articles of clothing are." As she speaks, she holds up a two piece bikini for emphasis.

Bronwyn Pascal wrote:
"Is your ankle okay, Skuld?"

As Bronwyn began inspecting her ankle, Skuld blushed, but didn't say anything. When she was asked, Skuld said "I belive I am unhurt, which is more than I can say for these shoes."

The heels were definitely destroyed; the display, however, looked like someone had dropped several hundred pounds of weight on it.

Bronwyn Pascal wrote:
"And wait, Skuld did you not know the word for bedhead, or do you actually just never get it."

"I have never experienced it; does it hurt?"

Ultimately, Skuld decided to get two pairs of shoes, both of them lacking any sort of heel.

Shayera wrote:
"Ready for round two?"

"I believe we have acquired what we came here for."

Likewise, at the various botiques, Skuld only picked out at most two to three things.

After making the rounds, Skuld placed her bags in the back along with the others, and after hearing of the plan for a mall trip, said "If I understand it correctly, isn't a mall just a large enclosed bazaar? Why were the shops we were just in not in such a place?"

"Also, why do you need clothing to swim?"

Wingblade wrote:
"No, bed-head is a phrase describing when you sleep on your hair wrong and it looks awful. So you wad it up and stuff it in a hat rather than mess with it to try to get it looking okay."

"I have never experienced such a thing. Is it truly a threat to a woman's power?"

Wingblade wrote:
"They're to give you some height, to put a sway in your hips, and to make your legs look longer. They're also the equivalent to medieval torture devices, but fashion is three parts style, one part pain, according to Tiffany."

"But how would one maintain their balance, or even be able to run, in such a foolish thing?" begins Skuld, who then stops as Bronwyn begins speaking. When she is finished, Skuld nods and tries them on.

When she takes her first tentative step, the heel breaks under her weight, and she goes crashing down, managing to take out a display in an attempt to right herself.

Labels: None I Have Influence on: No One Danger: 0, Freak: +2, Savior: -1, Superior: +3, Mundane: -1

At Shayera's suggestion, Skuld immediately removes the hat. "My apologies. My studies indicated that this was an appropriate accessory; also, what sort of monster would sleep in a bed made of heads, and why would they wear a cloth helmet?"

During the car ride, Skuld glanced between Bronwyn and Shayera and noticed that...something...was going on between the two. She did not, however, say anything, trusting them to work it out themselves.

At the shoe store, Skuld was dumbstruck. How many pairs of shoes does one own here? she thought as she looked down at the only pair of shoes she owned.

Skuld then looked up and nodded at Shayera's comment, then went to look at the strapped sandals. She had decided to give them their space to talk, but returned a few moments later with several pair of stiletto healed strapped shoes, saying "What is the purpose of these long stems on the bottom of the shoe?"

Wingblade wrote:
When the Norse princess comes into view, Shayera jumps and waves to get her attention. "Skuld! Hey!"

"Greetings." says Skuld as she walks up, returning Shayera's wave with a smile on top of it. When Skuld sees the car with driver, her smile fades as she says "I hope your father will not be joining us?"

As Shayera replied, it was clear that Skuld had carefully prepared her appearance; she was wearing pink nail polish and makeup. Her outfit, while tasteful, was not something that she would normally wear by a long shot. something like this.

It almost looked like she was dressed for a date.

Wingblade wrote:
When she gets closer, Shayera speaks in a normal volume. "I got a text from Bronwyn; she's going to be a little late."

At Bronwyn's name, Skuld appears to light up, but she quickly tampers it, then acknowledges the rest of the sentence with a nod.

Wingblade wrote:
"I'm glad you agreed to come," she tells Skuld. "And don't worry; this whole thing is on me. I've got money that I have no idea what to do with, so the sky's the limit."

"I think it should be interesting to see how..." she pauses and then looks at the driver "...students in your country purchase clothing. I have been learning from your periodicals that exist for young women what clothes are best to wear. Do you thing this is appropriate?" she asked, clearly hoping for advice.

Meanwhile:

Among her people, when one was desired another, there was usualy an intimidate conversation about the subject. That had resulted in...nothing. As a matter of fact, Bronwyn hadn't bothered to really mention it after that day. Her rival had given her explicit permission to pursue Bronwyn, but Skuld knew that she needed to study the courtship rituals of Midgard in order to understand the best way to court Bronwyn.

According to this interwebs thing, there was one man whose work best embodied the cinematic courtship experience.

His name was John Hughes.

--------

After watching Pretty in Pink Skuld sent a text to both Shayera and Bronwyn:

Where are we to meet for our purchasing expedition?

As Bran began to move, Tornado strength wind surrounded everyone who had fought together in a group (but not yet left), lifting them into the air.

At the same time, a wall of hurricane strength wind sprung up between the officers and the fleeting young superheroes.

Moments later, the wind was gone.

Skuld did not carry the group an exceptional distance, not trusting her control to hold. She landed them in a parking garage without incident, then turned and immediately left without further comment from there.

Now:

"I believe that we were fortunate not to have had any deaths, officer, although I know that there will likely be people who have no place to go tonight. Let me know how I can assist."

Skuld spoke to one of the officers for several minutes, before rubbing one of her rings and asking "Is there a place of commerce nearby where one might be able to exchange their belongings for wealth?"

-------

Later:

Wingblade wrote:

Shayera looks at Skuld incredulously. "My words?!? I hurt Bran?" Her whole body trembles, and her lower lip quivers.

"Skuld, I didn't hesitate. I saw that rocket going toward the apartments and I just acted. I was on it before I realized what I was doing. I was so scared."
She looks away, hoping the goddess doesn't see the tears beginning to well in her eyes. "I wasn't scared for myself. I was afraid for everyone else. That I was going to die again."
She turns back to face her. "Whip had been training me. What to do if I ever faced that situation again. The training took over, and I did what I had to do. I made it safe, and forced it down where it couldn't hurt anyone.
"So, what am I supposed to say to you? To Bran? To Bronwyn? I don't know. You're all going to be furious with me, and I can't blame you! So tell me, Skuld Tordottir, what do I say?"

Skuld smiled at Shayera and said "I am, indeed, not furious with you; you are a warrior, and thus you think and act as one. Indeed, that fateful day, I would have done what you had, had I not been overcome with my own shame. As I said, it is not what you have done that worries me, it is what you said immediately afterwards to our friend and the new mortals that concerns me. I see these emotions bristling inside you, and I have to admit that I am concerned that you might be....I know that Midguard has a term for this....suicidal, or perhaps 'doubt your life has meaning'; or worse, you believe that the rules of life and death no longer have sway over you."

Skuld holds up a hand to pause Shayera's vociferous response and says "perhaps it is something that you do not mean, but your (Skuld speaks a word that in Aesiri means 'inside voice') leads you to act in such a manner; or, perhaps I am just overly concerned for a sister. I will, however, offer you something my grandfather once told me, and he is a very wise man: 'weight carried alone is always heavier than weight carried by a group'."

Since I always forget about these things, I'm using the move 'The Best of Them' to Comfort and Support Shayera.

For anyone with serious investigatory skills, it wouldn't take too long to put two and two together about Skuld, but she does have actual Bona fides as the daughter of an ambassador, so that could lead to all sorts of odd questions.

Part of me wonders if Bronwyn doesn't wonder about Skuld having a situation like her own.

Labels: None I Have Influence on: No One Danger: 0, Freak: +2, Savior: -1, Superior: +3, Mundane: -1

As Bran begins to react to Wingblade's almost flippant disregard for his emotions, Skuld puts her hand reassuringly on his shoulder. When he looks up, she gives him the full weight of her most Goddess-like smile of serenity.

Turning to the newcomers, she said "Greetings mortal heroes. It is my pleasure to meet each of you. Together, I am sure that we will perform feats worth of the gods themselves. For now, however, we should work to insure that none of our charges have been injured."

Without another word, Skuld begins checking through the wreckage for survivors or injured.

------------

Later on, Skuld would ask to speak with Wingblade privately.

"Shayera, I feel that I must say something to you, and ask that you let me finish. Your words, though unintended, have harmed Bran greatly, and I fear that he still grieves for your death, though he is loath to admit so.

The circumstances of the battle this evening were not your fault, and should any claim otherwise, I would cleave to your defense; what is your fault, however, is how you react to the EXACT situation that cost you your life earlier, and how your rather ill-timed and careless remarks have hurt our boon companion.

While you may feel that you are untouched by your experience, remember that you are not alone, and those who care for you were sorely vexed, as my Grandfather might say.

Please take greater care with your words in the future."

Skuld, racing back towards the fight, catches up to Wingblade on the way.

"So, were you also smashed by lights from the metal man's eyes?" she asked, feeling some sympathy.

Arriving back at the scene of the battle, Skuld surveyed the damage and asked "Do you know these others Wingblade?"
