That just seems like a sensible in character decision - from the other way around, why would someone with the ability to just turn off most sounds for themselves opt to listen to someone trying to hypnotize them? Would you kindly point out the rule that lets PCs turn off their hearing aid as a Reaction to avoid an Auditory effect? probably the same action as an abled person to apply earplugs to themselves.
Can I get some writer insight on why Codas are limited to Bards only? And for the sake of using, does having the Bard Archetype count the PC as a Bard?

Ramlatus wrote: Hello friends,
I have been working on getting into a Pathfinder 2e game. Since my internet currently sucks I have been working on making characters and learning the rules until I can find work and get better internet.
I have been running into some troubles that I find HIGHLY discouraging. I have been trying to figure out how to make a good character and have come to the conclusion that the system is designed to make it impossible to make either a good or bad character. I feel very constrained, like I have training wheels that prevent me from failing. This also means that I can’t succeed as well. This make me feel like what is the point of making any choice for a character at all.
Looking into it further I keep reading things saying that teamwork is what is important in Pathfinder 2e. I find this idea difficult to believe. In my experience, one player/character usually has to carry the rest of the party a good 80% of the time. Relying on other players/characters will get the entire party killed. Most players/characters act independently of all the others in the party against the same enemy, but there is no coordination or planning, and very few player use abilities or spells to help their comrades unless the spell/ability they were using on themselves had additional targets beyond just themselves. I have a hard time seeing this work in game.
This keeps bringing me back to the same conclusion. What is the point of making a character and playing if your character can be replaced with any other character or at least any other character that fills the same roll with no difference.
So can any of you tell me what I am missing, or shed some light on this conclusion. I for obvious reasons can’t spend any money with WoTC. And Fantasy RPGs are my passion.
Sounds like this is a group issue, instead of a game issue.
Flying Ooze maybe my first Venture.

I am confused. I regularly play commoners.
Sure, PF2E Cannot pull the same RULE Interactions as 1st Edition, That is not the same as being able to tell the same stories? There was a rather memorable thread back on the old D&D forums where a player used the commoner NPC class and the rules for the game to play a fully supported campaign where they just did daily commoner tasks. Deciding where your 2+int skill points went at each level was interesting because you should probably level up your profession but a couple of points in craft could save you some coppers in the future. PF2 can't do this without major house rules, 3.x and PF1 could handle it from the outset. Or maybe your brawly fighter is a great at the plough, maybe your alchemist is working their trade at a tavern? If you don't get hung up on the lack of mechanics telling you that you are a commoner, you might be able to get on with being a commoner. They're not lesser people. They're people. Some of them are skilled enough to be PC leveled. If you don't like that.. ask your GM if you can take less skill trainings or ability bonuses.

I would love to see how these feats go with the current lot of mechanics, spells like Grasping Claw and the likes do change how i see things.

Was just wondering if Shipping has finished? My order (36699193) is still pending and I am unsure if I am supposed to be patient or if I need to create a new thread.
Thanks kindly! Shipping was completed, so please email Customer Service so we can help resolve your order issue. Thank you! Hello Tonya,
I have mailed CS multiple times now in the last two weeks about my shipment that was returned to Paizo mid-transport two weeks ago and besides an initial response saying "I will see if someone can have a look" I haven't heard anything again. Can you perhaps expediate that? I'm paying a lot of money for fast shipment, so the books can get to Germany quickly, and this has become really irritating now. Stuff like this is why I dont want the Customer Support forums to go away.

I am sorry. Whilst I felt I had a concern, said concern was one out of ignorance. I jumped as to not lose my train of thought. I'm going to take the next few days to be more passive in my approach and just read and learn from the forums and try to be better when I return to posting. I should have more faith in the moderation of this forums.. but paizo is not quite in my good books yet.

I'm sure moderation will show discretion on when to actually close a thread. Rule breakers will show their colors whether or not a particular thread is closed. Heather specifically stated that there were other threads that were similar, so not sure why you'd open another one?
At the point the thread was closed the topic had moved to whether or not bolding text was an offensive thing to do. Its usefulness had run its course.
I'd also refer you to the "Better Thread Titles" thread.
Edit: several typos Thank you, but no thank you. I feel this is a legitimate concern about something that could spiral into a Dangerous policy fast. After all, moderation is to keep healthy conversations safe, not silence victims with legitimate concerns.

I am making this thread to express my dissatisfaction with the locking of the previous thread which was made for the express purpose of commentary on the state of forum moderation.
amusingly circular!

Your tone is coming off really insulting and bordering on intimidation. I'm not sure if you're aware, but this is how I'm reading it as I'm casually scrolling through the forums...
There are better ways to ask questions, if you care about getting real answers to them that is. If asking for accountability is intimidating.. maybe he should be afraid.

He did mention it -may- have played a part in the communication breakdown.
Me thinks Jason is lucky to escape Legal action for this, I am curious why he still has a job. However. Is the type of person Paizo wants on staff? The sort of workplace they want to encourage? Where managers can make sexual advances on people, and when rebuffed cut them out of the process..

Tonya Woldridge wrote: The Inheritor wrote: Gday Tonya, curious! Do you have any plans or Direction as the new Community Director, what about things we should look forward to?
Also.. what does a Community Director do in your eyes?
Right now, my plans are around settling in, getting the lay of the land for the communities other than Org Play (getting to know you all :) ), and supporting the CS team. Since the first step is understanding the different groups and what they need, I'm making lots of Diplomacy (gather information)/Society rolls.
One of the big tasks I've been given is to look at our convention presence. As we are hoping to have an in-person PaizoCon this year, but have been digital the past two, there are lots of back plan things we've got to decide.
For me, a community director is a supporter who builds bridges/links between groups, helps others get the tools/resources they need, fills communication gaps, and strengthens the whole.
Can you further clarify what you mean by different groups?

If you quote a post that needs to be removed, I have to remove your post as well, regardless of how well thought out your post may be. I've had to remove a lot of really great comments because people are just quoting one bad post and then quoting each other. Whenever possible, it's best to try and say your piece as a separate entity. Far too many times, especially in the last week, I have thought, "if only they hadn't quoted that." In the past, Mods have trimmed quotes from posts. Can we get that again? Or is that extra effort too much?

James Jacobs wrote: H2Osw wrote: James Jacobs wrote: thejeff wrote: WormysQueue wrote: Filthy Lucre wrote: People keep saying that the setting and the rules are tied together but I don't see any evidence of this. I see it this way: It starts with the goblins being promoted to a Core Ancestry, and that happened solely due to the popularity Goblins gained within the Golarion setting. Also a whole chapter being dedicated to the setting.
It continues with sidebars in the Monster Manuals that specificially point to Golarion.
But more importantly, apart from the pure rulebooks, you now also have the Lost Omen line with books like the Character and the Ancestry Guide that would both have mostly been treated as setting-neutral books in the first edition. Is that really from popularity within the Golarion setting or popularity in general? How would anyone really tell the difference? From my position: It really is from Golarion. Rules are great fun, but without stories to back up the rules, they're just rules. Think of the rules as the cameras and sets and CGI programs and practical effects that make up a movie. Those things were both used to make your FAVORITE movie and your LEAST FAVORITE movie. It's the artists who use the rules to make stories that folks can enjoy that build attachments. That's how it's always seemed in my head. We couldn't do this thing without rules, but we wouldn't STILL be doing this thing without stories. Dwarves > Goblins, prove me wrong. I can prove that statement wrong to me, but not to you. Nor would I want to. We offer choices in Pathifnder because we know that for every gamer, the best choice is different. We love our Loreannosaurus Rex

I've been giving Jason Bulmahn some consideration, and I've come to the opinion that he should no longer have authority over people anymore in said workplace, considering he has admitted to making romantic advances towards at least one Coworker who reported to him, and when that did not work out, Cut her out of the system.
It's good that he admitted to this(thats a first step), and apologized, but what don't we see here? He seems unsure if he had done it to anyone else.

Are you honestly trying to spin this as a Marketing campaign? Earning a few bucks over suffering.
These people are withdrawing their subs so you WILL listen. So you understand what Paizo has done is wrong. Your words are hollow, as is the company's promise of inclusivity if these problems are not addressed. Now not the time to split the community but become accountable to them. Paizo has betrayed us. Rysky wrote: A lot going through my head right now but I'll try to be coherent.
I'm not here involved in the forums and discussions just because of the systems. Finding the Paizo forums led me to becoming genuinely happy for the first time in my life, I had found purpose, I had found friends, I had found family, all of it interwoven together.
I have my subscriptions as a way to support the people who I look up to and admire, the editors, the artists, the freelancers, and what they do. If I just wanted the rules I wouldn't have to pay anything, I could just use Archives of Nethys and you wouldn't see a cent from me.
I have my subscriptions to support the people making the books and to voice "Hey, we need more of this!" (I am terribly lacking writing reviews though, and that needs to be alleviated), similar to being a patron on Patreon. The people actually pushing for awesome things, for good things, to make theirs and other's dreams come true, I wish to support. The writings espouse inclusiveness and joy and fantasy and the supporting that I am more than glad to do. More inclusiveness please, it's not a quota, keep going.
You take that away however, you take them away however, and there's no reason for me to continue supporting this company with my wallet, or for me to be here.
Hard same.
