If I may add my 2 cp, and its not pretty commentary, then here we go. I like the changes proposed, but on a larger scale I would much rather see way less cumbersome tomes of rulesets, and more in the way of modules, APs, and more society scenarios. Call me a pariah or troll, but i am not trying to be mean. Once mythic came out, ACG, and a psionics book are looming, I just do not want more core assumption to be exploited. I quit gming society because I am uncomfortable not being familiar with 1500+ pages of stuff, and miss it for the sense of adventure and wonder the new people bring. I guess what I am saying, is I really liked stemming the flow of aasimar and tiefling. Changes along that line might bring me back to open storytelling, but I doubt arcanists, brawlers and the upcoming psychic types cannot be put back in the genie's bottle.
I for one welcome the change. Once the two races came out, they were obviously above the others, and should only be available by a boon. The 'blood of' books pushed them to absurd status, and further pushed me away from organized play. Now it is a matter of putting the genie back in the bottle, and those that want to win pathfinder are going to howl, but change is not always pretty. That said, I do have a tiefling and an aasimar, and my son just played his first game ever with an aasimar. I figured in the future he can have one when he can, and should, appreciate it.
Rather than scrolls, perhaps some alchemists fire would be a little more appropriate? Also, it might be a good idea to look at the experience numbers, and try to feed the party enough outter guard/trap encounters to where they can level throughout the expedition. Don't be obvious, but present a rough idea that the party can widdle through, level, and face bigger challenges. They could end up 3rd level at the end.
Alright so my party is in the works for Mummy's mask. Thus far, we have..
So I am curious how Osirions would generally react to such a party. The top 3 should be OK one would think, but a Goblin? How would society treat this guy and or his friends? I have some ideas but would like more input.
Scrolls of mirror image. 2PP = a scroll with 5 castings on it. My level 11 conjurer rocks a 13 AC and still rarely gets hit because of liberal use of invisibility. Buff your fighters at all costs. Summon stuff. Animate stuff and buff them (fast zombie owlbear with displacement? Hell ya!). A wand of vanish, used with the ready action of 'I use this on Fred when someone attacks him' will make you everyone's friend and so they will protect you. But mainly, find a way to Buff, Survive, and Blast.
At 10th level you can take a discovery which makes a forbidden school easier to cast spells from (single slot!), but they remain difficult to learn...I would snag illusion personally, but false life and enervation are pretty sweet spells. Along that note, Heroism (enchantment) is a pretty good spell, especially since it lasts a long time....
Cannot remember the scenario, but the party (barbarian, gunslinger, witch, and cleric), faced a succubus with its 2 melee mooks. The demon dominates the barbarian, and used suggestion on the gunslinger to 'protect me at all costs'. The witch got vamp touched and flew off, the cleric went invisible and watched in horror as the succubus made out with the gunslinger, giving him like 5 neg levels over quite some time. Eventually the cleric dispelled the domination, the barbarian rages and attacks the demon. Gunslinger proceeds to blast the barbarian into oblivion. In the end, the barbarian died, the succubus died, and the gunslinger snapped and ran off into the jungle for a day. It was very intense and...and pretty entertaining
Now, if you want an actual example of a class that can only cast a spell of a certain level, based purely on his caster stat bonus spell, look at level 1 paladin or ranger. They have a spell slot for 1st level spells, with a 0 in it. Thus, they ONLY cast a spell if they have that bonus spell based on a high stat. This dilemma dates back to 1st edition, where there was no wording specifically banning such activity. If you want to prepare a 2nd level wizard spell, you need to be 3rd level. |
