Well, I'll keep one eye back on it and if something comes up maybe I'll stay. It's just that I've got 5 games besides this, one of which I'm DMing, so if it's not an active one I don't keep track of it. The GM is also a part of another pbp I'm in and he's not posting there either. It might be rl, so I'm not judging, but there's still nothing happening. Unless someone else wants to homebrew a game and we can go from there. I'm still interested.

Not that it matters, but just in case this game actually gets going, I'm officially going to bow out. I've got a few other games keeping me occupied and I'm not going to keep checking back. I hope this does get going for you guys who stick around, this could be a blast!

After casting his spell Tanis readies his bow and lets the heavy hitters move forward into combat, waiting for his chance to strike. Is there any chance of some sort of map so I can tell if I'd be shooting into melee/cover? I don't want to catch one of my companions with an arrow!

"Hopefully this will keep a few of them at bay!" Tanis lowers his head and concentrates, focusing on the Orcs that were lit up by the arrow. Cast Entangle

"Trying to snak up on us, eh?" Tanis thinks quick on how to stop their advance... How close are they? With the light from Elros plus my lowlight vision if I can see their position and they're within range, I'll cast Entangle. If I can't quite see them well enough, I take this turn to arm myself with my bow and notch an arrow.
Nm, I'll probably swap it out with one of mine if that's still cool, even though we already started. Any suggestions on which to switch it with, something we may not need? I'm going to be off for a bit, so I won't respond for a while, but I'll check it periodically on my phone through the afternoon. If I need to kill some Orcs, however, I may have to sneak away from the wife with my iPhone!
Well, I'm new in the sense that I played one home game for a few months, picked up the core rulebook, and then the GM left town and the game ended so I haven't really played sense. I'm just getting started out in pbp. I've read some pbp guides and am currently playing in two pbp's here, so I've got the rhythm of that down. I am open to tips and suggestions, but don't be too offended if I don't take them all only because I'm trying to not over-complicate things for myself. I do have access to a lot of the materials, but I'm trying to get some more gaming under my belt before I stray too far from the core rulebook. I'll definitely look into getting a dagger, I had thought about it and then never really gone and done it.
Sorry, Azaelas, didn't mean to make a thing out of it. It's just really the first time I've been able to jump into the posting here with a fun fact. I'm a lot newer to Pathfinders than obviously most of you all, so I haven't been able to contribute to the conversation about character building. Once I got my Elf Druid set I basically just watched what everyone was writing and scratched my head going "huh?"
Even as a devout Catholic, he despised the structure of the church. He advised Christopher not to leave it because it was the only place that one could obtain communion. He even referred to the Christian story as the only "true fairy story" in his essay "On Fairy Stories" and even coined the term Euchatastrophe in reference to the incarnation of Jesus. But he believed that Fairy Stories were a sub-creation, so they may have parts of what he called "the soup" of similar stories to pull from, like your reference to the pre-norman Britain stuff, but if it would have been a Christian book it would have contained the Christian God. The world of Fairy to Tolkien was a world contained in itself, sub-created by it's author. When a book seller tried to peg him down on the theology of LOTR, especially referencing Tom Bombadill as an allerogy of God, he wrote the guy off, telling him that he was reading too much into the work, taking it too seriously. BTW,I'm not here to start one of these crazy forum arguments, so I hope no one is getting offended by my coming back with "arguments." My major was religious studies and I took a whole class dedicated to Tolkien, so I love talking about this stuff! If anyone is getting offended or annoyed, I will immediately back off the religion topic, no worries!
I would definitely argue against LOTR being a Christian book, as did Tolkien himself in many of his letters. The Silmarillion definitely has some similarities to other creation texts, but Tolkien vehemently argued against anyone who tried to call LOTR or the legendarium an allegory. Depending on the race different Valar attended to them more closely, ie the creation of the Dwarves by Aulë, and so they had similar traits and remembered him in certain ways. As far as Eru, beyond creation he only acts, once, maybe twice, and has no dealings with Arda, and for the most part the Valar, after that. In fact, Manwë was the only one to really keep in contact with Eru during the whole of the Silmiarillion. EDIT:It's been a bit since I read the Silmarillion, so Iluvatar may have acted a bit more, but I know he's pretty much absent and it's up to the Valar to figure things out through the majority of the book.

And I updated my background background:
Tanis grew up amongst the wood elves. His affinity for nature exceded even his evlen brethren. Growing up he spent many nights, and as he got older, weeks, months, alone and away from his family and kindred, exploring the vast forests, hills, dales, and plains of the surrounding country. His love for natural things and the woods so great that even though he once saw the sea, he found it so very easy to resist it's call.
As a wanderer and a druid Tanis has gained a great affinity for the Hobbits. Though they do use basic technology to continue their agrarian lifestyle, they still have great respect for nature and the earth. They don't use their technology to try and expand their culture, but simply subsist. And in the simple ways, that they wear no shoes and that they live in holes in the ground, Tanis feels like they have an affinity for the earth that has been lost in many other societies in Middle-Earth. He spends a great deal of his free time in The Shire, mostly helping to teach the Hobbits new and different methods of horticulture and assisting them on their journeys as a guide and a little protection, though the paths and journeys he takes them on are mostly peaceful and evasion and cover rather than fighting has gotten them through many perils. Tanis wishes to expose his small friends to as little violence as he can, as the world outside The Shire is rife with more than it's share of woes and violence, he sees no need to bring them into that world. All I did from before was to drop a trait so I only have one. I didn't change any of the spells I have, I believe they would be something that and elf would have the ability to access, especially one with druid qualities, such as the wood elves. If there is anything you see in there that you don't like, Killer Munch, let me know. |
