I am in a few games that have stalled or slowed down to a snails pace. But that means I cannot tell whether I can apply for a new game because I do not know where I stand. Now this one stopping would be a massive shame, especially with all the work that Anselth has put in, but my patience with no updates or communication is pretty low. Therefore I'll bow out with thanks to everyone and look forward to gaming again with any of you. Regards

"Doth thou wish to forge ahead master scouts while we hold the juncture? As we did before, our elven brethren can offer you support if that meets your needs?" Sir Galavaine locksteps and marches beside Andre murmuring a quick prayer to the God of Bravery. Perchance it should be Istus, the Fatespinner, that I should mouth to.

"Twas the Great Mages of Greyhawk that took part in this enterprise. They were at the forefront of battle so my father spake. But no mention of what Andre doth speak of, the imprisoned, has been told to me. Or my church, I believe. That t'would be a deliberate deed." Sir Galavaine strokes his small beard and comes to no great conclusion. He looks around and up for some indication of which is the right set of stairs. Then he notices that Podo and Gnobby have gone. "Doth anyone know where the scouts have ghosted to?"

It is great. My guys pretty much had one long fight from 10am to 7pm. Gnome Barbarian (AC11) took 500+ points of damage and went to -24 and survived! Thanks to stoneskin, fast healing and damage reduction he actually took much less. Having two tanks run over him and then get up was very scenic indeed. I was fragged after, 14th level is so different from my usual much lower level stuff. Cheers and hope everyone had a good Easter.

We are both playing rogues in that game, Chainmail, and I feel exactly the same way about the loot tracker. I'd never abuse the stealing from the party" but this was going to be my first greedy rogue......ever. Shame.
Good to get this game going again.

Sir Galavaine moves to check the eastern chamber beyond the nave. He motions for Sallandrya to accompany him while Andre and Tarmin can broach the other side. Using hand signals he tries to time it so that both groups spring any ambush together.

Eventually Sir Galavaine nods to his noble friend and the pair of them lead Pettry towards the nave, giving the scouts time to head around and before. Somehow words seem unnecessary and out of place as their boots echo off the small flagstones. His flail and shield ready for battle, he pulls out his holy symbol of a sword and kisses it before laying the shiny beacon of goodness on his breast.

The holy knight marches up as a test of faith, to see if the forces of good allow him to approach. Spell save 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 3 - 2 = 6 But no, the repulsion forbids him too. He looks at Gnobby and Tarmin and smiles, "side doors it would always be once one of us were stopped. The runic chains ward here. Let us hope we can pass elsewhere."

Sir Galavaine thanks Otis for bringing them then looks at the scouts, weighing up whether it is too dangerous for independence. "Doth thou wish to scout in braces as before? Prithee I wouldst understand if thou wish to travel as one band round this Temple looking for means of entry and egress."

"Tis not bickering, my friend. Thou art wrong. Tis the information that may save your friends lives. Do they matter to you? Forsooth I know the Temple is dangerous and yet we are here. So far my understanding of why Otis made his part plain and led us here is a fog. Why get us here and then tell us to be careful. I expect there is more and wish this dancing around would stop." Sir Galavaine looks at the exit and grins, "get your blades sharpened and enchanted is practical and something I can appreciate. One thought I concede I had also had. Mayhaps everyone else can avail themselves of this forgework." Sir Galavaine makes one last attempt to convince Otis to be more forthcoming, "thou hast been watching and waiting for a long time. My Brave Lord teaches us that courage is best served by wisdom. Look at us, we seek the downfall of the Temple. Help us or stand aside tis your final choice but know that taking care is our nature." Charisma check 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

"So what aid doth you offer, Otis? So far all I have heard is advice. My friends and I risk much and your words of advice seem a poor return on this visit when we hath behaved with care since we already arrived. Is your meaning that we should leave the unsafety of Nulb? And scout out the bastion of Evil away from prying eyes of these thieves and rogues."

"You make of us bait for some greater gain, perchance, Otis?" The stern look of Galavaine rarely appears but this help seems thin for the quest they are on. "What of guards and wards around the Temple? And do the guards come into Nulb and stay on leave at all? We could question one for more information, there are experts in stealth here. No answer. Then what is this aid you offer?" Not yet angry but certainly offended, the holy warrior presents a blunt and direct face to this spy. Sir Galavaine takes a moment to glance at the faces of the others, reminding himself of the value he places on these adventurers again. Never had a vodka martini, nor has Sir Galavaine.

I can't keep the image of this scene in the computer game from my mind. Once everyone bar Sallandrya is safely ensconced inside the smithy, the holy priest relaxes visibly. He helps with introductions and this time is honest and apologises for their poor raiment. "We would knowst the lay of the land, Sire. And aught of the Temple that doth cast its shadow over Nulb. If you please."

Previous to our arrival, Gnobby would have been briefed as our leader in Nulb. The holy knights should be taking a lower profile. He moves over towards Podo and then nods upstairs. Once out of the way, he has a chat with the happy fellow.

Sir Galavaine has purposefully dirtied his whitecloak. Entering the hostel at the rear with Andre, he covers his armour and remains behind the others to let Gnobby take the lead. He stiffens at Sallandrya's words and then relaxes a little.

Sir Galavaine takes his 4,695gp and buys the normal suit of plate mail for 200gp plus 1,000gp from the Viscount makes 5,400gp and some change (95gp). The Church of Hieroneous in Verbobonc gets 540gp as a tithe. Hommlet gets 270gp from him for initial improvements to the moathouse and town militia. Its up to the Lords Rufus and Byrne how they deal with this but I'd like to see the moathouse as a future base of operations for someone. Thats 5,400-540-270 = 4,590gp. Then he will show the letter of marque to the best weaponsmith in town and get a +1 Flail made for himself for 3,600gp. That leaves 910gp which Sir Galavaine will contribute to a worthy cause for the party members such as Andre getting that +1 Plate armour. He has no need for the other foderols. His change he saves for himself. Cheers

Sir Galavaine takes the halfling aside when the room in the Welcome Wench is sorted. A little private chat. Podo/DM Anselth
Spoiler: Sir Galavaine explains that the party may not be coming back and that Nulb may be very dangerous for someone on their own. If the halfling intends to go through with the expedition to the town. He should use a nom de guerre one that the party can use to find him. Of course, Podo could pass as a disguised boy (or girl). He does not want to hear what Podo's problem is in the city.

"My lord Rufus, whom doth we approach on the matter of Lloth. Perchance you have someone in mind? And this Nulb does it lie on our track back to here from Verbobonc or is there another route. I am no mapmaker but my heart tells me that Nulb may be east of the city rather than south and east to here?" Sir Galavaine strokes his slightly unruly beard and smiles at the thought of a proper barber. "Podo, we may be better meeting you in Nulb in a months time. How say you?"

Galavaine borrows a pair of wheelbarrows from Ostler Gundigoot and a farmer and allows Gnobby or Podo the opportunity to joust with a reversed broomstick against Andre and the children. He takes a moment to explain what they found when Rufus or Byrne are watching and adds that the band is headed for Verbobonc. He makes sure to highlight the presence of Lareth and his goddess.

Sir Galavaine staggers downstairs a little sleep drunk and soon joins the others outside, on the way to the church. By the time he returns from prayers, Gnobby's party is about to start. Quickly Sir Galavaine passes word to the church and grove that today may be a good day for a village festival. He offers to pay towards the cost so that everyone in Hommlet can enjoy the celebrations. Meanwhile he asks Podo to sort out food and drink with Ostler and make sure to give the man full payment in exchange from everything that Podo kept safe. Working behind the scenes, the holy warrior attempts to cajole and diplome the woodsfolk and farmers to stop work and enjoy an impromptu day together. He makes sure that word goes to the tradesmen too so that no one is left out.

The holy priest shakes his head at the words of the innkeeper and rubs his eyes, to release some of the tension. "I need to rest." He mumbles, carelessly handing over some money for the food and enough extra for a room. "Well done everyone. Podo is busy. I am tired, but will be ready to travel on later or tomorrow. Sorry Gnobby, our journey must wait a while." Sir Galavaine sweeps up his muddy white cloak and leaves the group for now.
