#5-02 The Wardstone Patrol
When:
Saturday, March 26, 2016, 7am MDT (GMT-7)
Where: Roll20 + Google+ Hangout
Who: PCs can be of level 3 thru 7, sub-tiers 3-4 and 6-7, must be Core campaign characters
What: All-out war has erupted on the long-contested border between the crusader nation of Mendev and the demon-infested Worldwound. With the magical defenses that once held the demons at bay failing, defense of the region now falls to small patrols of mobile soldiers to resupply, reinforce, and communicate between the border's many fortresses and outposts. With so much at stake, the Pathfinder Society has enlisted many of its agents to assist in the war effort, both to protect its own interests and to prevent the onrushing tide of demonic attackers from plunging the entire Inner Sea region into chaos. On one such wardstone patrol, however, the party may find itself facing an enemy of an entirely different nature.

Risen From The Sands
When:
Saturday, January 23, 2016, 7am MDT (GMT-7)
Where: Roll20 + Google+ Hangout
Who: PCs can be level 3 or 4, must be Core campaign characters*
What: The deserts of Osirion—land of pharaohs and ancient tombs—hide not just untold wonders, but also unspeakable dangers. When the vast sand dunes part to reveal the ancient pyramid of the legendary Pharaoh of Sphinxes, glory seekers from across many nations race toward it, each fighting to be the first to claim its wonders. But the storied pharaoh doesn't rest quietly within this monument, and his tomb was designed to slaughter any who would dare trespass.

A band of bold adventurers are the first to arrive, and stand poised to claim what’s risen from the sands—but they're unaware of the doom that lurks inside. With daring on their side and strange, rarely seen powers at their disposal, the heroes may be the only force capable of containing the force of evil within and defeating its curse!

*Yes, this is a 2-4 scenario. However, given the lethality inherent with this scenario, and the fact that I don't want another PC death on my hands just yet, I am highly recommending (read: limiting) there be no lvl 2 characters.

Sovereign Court

It was that reason, Kludde, that made me go for folio rerolls rather than shirt rerolls...

Sovereign Court

I can go to the high tier table with Celfwyn. Think I'd rather play him anyway, haha. Linky? (Never mind, found it. Silly me.)

Dotted there.

Sovereign Court

Dotting interest! Alchemist 5 or Zen Archer 2. Since there seem to be a few low levels, likely the archer.

We've started to add those to qualifying GMs' downloads. I would expect the process to be done within a week or two.

As a more recent 4-star GM, I expect I'm further down the list for that, so shall be patient. Don't need it till next month anyway. Thankfully, PbP has little lead time needed =)

Male Humanoid (Human) GM 4

Question: Why are there two different start dates for the Siege of Serpents special? Did I miss this being explained somewhere? =\

Sovereign Court

1. Arguably, yes.
2. No. They are bought as a set.
3. No, because you are dead.
4. Unlikely, since they would have to get to you (move action), remove your gloves (at least a move action, probably a standard to actually take them off your form), put them on (move action?), then use them (whoops, no actions are left).
5. Animal companions cannot activate magic items, though they can benefit from passive bonuses (amulet of natural armour, belt of physical perfection, etc).

Sovereign Court 4/5

Right, Benjamin. You should up it to three/day!

4-star GM volunteering for the specials (as posted in the cross-post).

Sovereign Court

Male Humanoid (Human) GM 4

Emerald Spire - Balanced.
Thornkeep - Tough, sometimes brutal, otherwise fair if you play well. (EDIT- Just recalled my playthrough with a fresh lvl 1 Core character.... yeah, brutal might be a good point. We were lucky mostly, just not when it counted. Definitely want a prepared, balanced party.)
Bonekeep - Hide yo' kids, hide yo' wives, and hide yo' husbands, cause they be killin' errbody roun' here!
Or something to that effect.

Sovereign Court

Male Humanoid (Human) GM 4

Signed up for the season opener! Hope I make the raffle. Will be nice to dust off some of these low levelers.

Sovereign Court

Male Humanoid (Human) GM 4

In this case, it's simply I've already played it. Don't know how many others that applies to.

Sovereign Court

Male Humanoid (Human) GM 4

Signed up as well. Since Steven_Evil's bringin' a knife master, I'll keep to my polearm master as originally listed.

Sovereign Court 4/5

Indeed. Most, if not all, PFS recruitment is handled on those forums. Keep an eye out for all region and locations.

On the Paizo boards, the thread below is kind of the epicenter of PbP (Play By Post) games. The GM's running these games almost never post upcoming games on the PFS boards as they have their own waiting list for games they are going to run.

That's because there's almost no point since they all tend to fill up by those already in the thread.

Yes, sadly most games fill up very quickly, whether for live VTT games or PbP games. I would highly recommend setting alerts if possible for PFSOC (though you will get a LOT of notices), or just keep an eye on the thread Nebten linked above for PbP. Sometimes the games start right when they fill up, other times they take a short time to start.

Either way, it is a great way to get into online playing.

The hurdle I come across is most VO's will either handwave it with a "oh, you know, this and that" while others will avoid the question altogether. It's like they're sworn to secrecy, hahaha. I mean, there's the obvious adjudicate and arbitrate and be a reliable reference, and maintaining the community, but how deep does that go? Like I said, what goes on behind the curtain?

Sovereign Court

Male Humanoid (Human) GM 4

I have always wondered what exactly the VO's' duties were. All that behind-the-scenes stuff.

Just like "register your character" is the only way I know of to get to the part where I report scenarios I GMed. This website could be more newbie-friendly.

Pathfinder Society Logo on left side of screen > My Pathfinder Society > [Sign in] > GM/Event Coordinator tab. You can report from there. That's how I do it. Don't think I've ever gone through the register your character link.

I will agree that the Additional Resources page is difficult to get to, requiring way too many clicks. Thankfully, I visit it so often that Google Chrome automatically brings it up when I type "addit". Actually, now that I think about it, that's kinda sad.

The biggest issue I have with it beyond being hard to get to is the conflicting wording. At the top, it says "If a product does not appear on this list, then it is not considered legal for play."
Yet many things I've wanted to look at are saying "These things are legal except..."
Would it not be simpler to say "these things are not allowed in play"? That's what's itemized in half the listings anyway...

I want that boon.... Maybe next weekend at the local con.
(Don't have anything to trade for it, so the trading thread not a viable option.)

I think he'd be better suited to just tying a bunch of helium balloons to his ship and calling it good that way. Wants an upgrade, after all.

Sovereign Court 4/5

Say that a character has 50,000 gp burning a hole in his haversack and more than 49 Fame points. Would he be able to purchase an airship from Ultimate Combat? Additional resources says nothing about the vehicles in Chapter 4.

My sailor recently rode in one during a Seeker arc and now is turning green with envy. He won't stop pestering me until I get an answer. Make it stop, please! I beg of you!

Given: A wolf animal companion can trip with a successful bite attack.
Given: The spell lockjaw grants the grab ability to a natural attack.

Question: If one casts Lockjaw on the animal companion which can already trip, are they able to grab as well as trip, or must they do one or the other. If the first, in which order does it perform those actions? Trip then grab? Grab then trip? Player's choice?

Clarification needed!

Sovereign Court 4/5

If I ever say that one cannot take 10 or take 20, I always give a reason for it.

- Can't take 20 because it is something in the moment, not one lasting a minute.
- Can't take 10 because you can't take 10 to aid another.
- Can't take 10 because you're getting sneak attacked in the kidneys by the velociraptor rogue in the Mwangi tallgrass. *drops bucket of dice*

You know, things like that.

1) Complete chronicle sheet! Best part is it always applies to your character's level, regardless of whether you ran high or low sub-tier. If your character is out of tier, they get the out of tier gold and only the low sub-tier options for items and the like.

2) Yes, one character cannot have two sheets from the same scenario. You can, however, play it with another character.

3) I am not familiar with the Spire sheets, but it sounds like you can do either, as long as the character you are applying it to is within the level range of the sheet.

4) If you only have a table of 3 players, you will have to run the game playing a pre-generated character (likely Keira). Regardless, you will still only get one chronicle sheet for running the game. You cannot insert your own character to help out the party.

5) The only downside to applying GM credit to a PC is the fact that it is one more game which you cannot enjoy playing your character. Personally, this sometimes leads to me not making smart purchases (not having a cold iron weapon at level 7, for instance...). But if done properly, the only damage is not being able to play it as long since it'll level up through GM credit and not player credit.

Sovereign Court

I just hope he sees it here.

Sovereign Court

Improved Natural Attack and Strong Jaw do not stack, sadly. Both up the effective size, so you only take the larger one (in this case, Strong Jaw, I believe.)

Sovereign Court

Male Humanoid (Human) GM 4

Never did play We Be Goblins Too. Guess I should while I can. Shifty, could you please pencil me in if ye need bodies for WBG2?

Sovereign Court

Male Humanoid (Human) GM 4

As noted on the spreadsheet, Shifty, I changed my character to a Vishkanya melee samurai. Finally dusting off the race boon from near two years ago. Looking forward to the 11th.

From what I've been told, yes. The stipulation is that you can only have one chronicle from GM credits (repeatable modules and scenarios excluded, of course). When you get it, whether on your first or seventh run through, is not specified.

Pretty sure that the bow needs to be +1 before you can add the Adaptive quality to it [though I suppose that you could've acquired the gold needed to do both by that point]. You'll also need to keep the full value of the weapon in mind & have the requisite Fame to allow the purchase.

To this day I had missed that somehow! Seems so obvious now. Thank you for pointing that out.

Not worried about it for this character, however, since she's been GM credited up to legal levels anyway. Did I buy it before I shoulda? Yeah. Did it matter for any game? Nah. Will just have to be more mindful next time.

Back in the day, Roll20 was notorious for cutting out when bandwidth got high. This meant a lot of lag between connections at certain times of the day. You can't chat in text, can't use voice or video (yes, Roll20 allows video), and certainly can't use the tabletop.

Using G+ allows you to keep talking while Roll20 gets fixed, usually taking anywhere between 5-20 minutes, sometimes longer.

G+ is a reliable voice-chat system which, as indicated, can interface to some degree with Roll20 (though I personally never used that interface). Additionally, it is free and can be as bandwidth-hogging as you want it to be with video and effects to your heart's content.

I cannot speak to the current state of Roll20's voice and video options as most are still in the habit of using G+, self included. But it is pretty much not putting all your eggs in one basket, so to speak. If one fails, you already have a contingency.

Does G+ have its drawbacks? Of course. Sometimes it just lags, mutes, or up and kicks you out. But at least it is bearable and/or infrequent.
