I am not sure that Freya would look kindly on the purchase of a slave. I would prefer personally that you hired a scribe. As it is for temple, you could probably get an acolyte to do it for bed and board.

Being an outcast and looking for a way into respect, I wasn't aware that was available. I'd gladly buy a horse and board for him/her. I'd even pose for charcoal renderings.

Slaves didn't have a lot of rights in Ancient Rome. They could be killed at their master's will from what I remember. If you killed one all you had to do was to pay their master their going price for the slave, if you were a citizen.

Depends on the time frame. After the Spartacus revolution, and the romans had more slaves than citizens, Citizens could be tryed for the murder of a slave. The educated slaves could earn money to purchase their freedom. All with the thought that the slaves wouldn't rise up and slaughter citizens again.

My thought was to use my remaining funds to buy a slave scribe (and horse) who could write a story. A story for the current adventure that would be submitted to the church for a possible addition to The Psalms of Freya

Sigrid was a plain looking woman who responded with nods and little else. She hid a heavy stutter that alienated most amiable interactions. While, due to her youth, men often approached her romantically, her stutter pushed the interests from courting to polite disinterest. She could always get a one night stand should she want, but that was a far cry from building a family.

The loneliness marred her face with a glum pallor, and she seemed prone to play outcast in a world that rejected her. She quickly agreed to function as an outrider at the start of their journey.

While out riding she sees a spider that need attention.

Init: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

She pulls free her bow and launches a missile at the spider.

Everyone but the paladin needs to buy a horse, riding kit and at least 3 weeks of feed. No need to stat out your Paladin's warhorse. You will all probably be caravan guards for most of the trip.
