"No idea. But you'll have to wait until I've eaten my breakfast anyway. No way I'm going to climb a mountain on an empty stomach," Si-Yi answers, then takes a bite from a large chunk of salamander he's holding in his hands. "Hmph. I'm fairly sure I wanted my salamander to be saignant, not à point."

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Sorry for not posting, job-hunting has been tiring me out lately. I keep trying to post, but in the end feel too tired and have to go to sleep. :/

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Morning More like noon.

Si-Yi slowly rises from the chair he had dozed off in last night. His neck and joints ache a bit from the unnatural sleeping position, but they were quickly surpassed by his stomach making its urgent need of breakfast known. The elf doesn't spare much thought to the fruits comprising the leftovers from last night, but instead goes outside, looking for signs of people roasting greasy, slightly dubious-looking pieces of local fauna. After all, if there is something that is shared by all the cultures, in all places and across all the time, it has to be barbecuing, right?

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Yeah, that's what I thought. :P I'm mostly just wanting to know if Frog's fine with a bit more displacement or if I should try to stay mostly adjusted with someone.

(let me know if I'm not making any sense, I'm too tired to English. :P)

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Okay guys, I'm a bit confused. :P

What time is it supposed to be? (In game, I'm not that confused) I'm asking because Sinathel's and Olivius' posts don't seem to be located chronologically in the same place. Not saying that there's anything wrong with that, just wanting to know if it's intentional before going to muck things up with my own posts.

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Hey guys, I'm going to be off the internet for a few days. Probably less than a week though. Please don't get eaten by monsters while I'm away. :P

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

While he has nothing against fruit, Si-Yi can not help but feel that the platter seems slightly... Protein-deficient. You can't build an impressive musculature like his without having some dead animal once in a while, after all.

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

After Hawke has spoken, it suddenly dawns on Si-Yi that he's the next on the imaginary "introduce yourself" list. "Uh, well, I'm Si-Yi, and I come from the future as well. Came on the same will of the gods as the rest."

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

All right, now I'm really back. For real this time.

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Si-Yi enters the tent with the others, glad to finally have an opportunity to rest for a while. Taking on mind-controlled monks, harpies and salamander-monsters on the course of one day is exhausting enough even without timetravel-induced jet lag.

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

I'm back! I'll post more once I have read what happened while I was away. :)

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Hey guys, things have been pretty hectic lately and will continue to be so for a while, and then I'm going to be without internet access, so... See you in a few weeks!

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

"Sorry buddy, but I don't think that I have the time to "hang around" any longer," Si-Yi quips and supplements his amazing pun with a headbutt towards the salamander's face, hoping that the sudden impact would cause the beast's grip to loosen, or at least keep it from biting his head off a bit longer.

Defy Danger (Str): 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 2) + 2 = 10 Was kind of unsure if I should use H&S or Defy Danger, but went with DD since Si-Yi's trying to escape it's grip rather than kill it.

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

damage: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3

Rolling just the damage for now, more coming tomorrow.

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Si-Yi turns his attention to the monster searching for Olivius, recklessly charging towards it with his sword ready to strike, hoping that the beast is too focused on finding the thief to notice him before he's at striking distance...

Hack & Slash: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 1) + 2 = 4

...Which is sadly not the case this time.

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Si-Yi rushes to join the melee, intent to bring the monster down quickly. He absolutely doesn't want to see what the creature is able to do with its claws, and does not doubt a moment that it will use them if given the opportunity.

Hack & Slash: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 1) + 2 = 7
Damage: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Si-Yi draws his two-handed sword and prepares for the worst. Not because he actually excepts the worst, but because it's much more pleasant to be surprised by the not-that-bad than by the worse-than-excepted.

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Numaloyo? Si-Yi starts to go through his memories, trying to remember if he has ever heard about the mountain before... Or in the future, to be exact. The whole "time travel" thing is a bit confusing to him.

Spout Lore: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 6) = 7

The elf finds himself remembering something, but part of him wishes that he would have obsessively memorized dates from an early age.

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

"You know, "Devil Cat" is actually a pretty fitting moniker. I mean, just look at him," Si-Yi says and nods towards the cougar. "A bit of sulfur and a pair of horns and even a professional demonologist would be fooled."

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Si-Yi wonders silently what in the world is the "pegasus" that the stranger purports to ride. Is it dangerous? Edible? Only slightly dangerous and edible, but extraordinarily foul-tasting?

Spout Lore: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 3) = 8

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Whee! I'm healthy again!

Seeing the giant bugs feasting on Hawke greatly helps Si-Yi understand why the jungle isn't crawling with tourists despite its warm climate and beatiful flora.

I'm not sure how to be useful in this situation. :| None of the moves seems very applicable...

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Hey guys!

Sorry for not posting, I have a stomach flu and might not be able to post in a few days. :(

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

I actually have them switch places when I open a new tab... We'll never know who ninja'd and who got ninja'd. :P

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Suddenly overcome by desire to feel at least marginally useful, Si-Yi steps behind Dambreth and starts "helpfully" pointing out things that he thinks that the other elf may have missed.

Aid: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 5) = 11

Somehow, he manages to be more helpful than annoying. Barely.

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

I had to go check from a map where Nevada is. :P

"A storm forced the boat to land here. Seems like it carried more than just a passenger, judging from the footprints," Si-Yi declares unceremoniously. He puts the map in a pocket without mentioning it to the others; it is almost unreadable after all.

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Si-Yi proceeds to meticulously examine the lifeboat and the surrounding area for possible clues about what had happened before they landed.

Discern Realities: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 5) - 1 = 10

  • What happened here recently?
  • What here is useful or valuable to me?
  • What here is not what it appears to be?

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Man, I slept through the good part. :P

A jungle? Well, maybe I'll find out what makes the local elves so weird.

"I'm ready as well."

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

I'm terribly sorry for disappearing on you guys. :( Stuff happened. But the next 1½ months will probably be relatively stuff-free, so I should be able to post consistently from now on.

"Well, I guess that dying in a time-travelling accident isn't much worse than dying in whatever is threathening the world," Si-Yi says dryly and grasps the rod.

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Trying his very best to avoid stepping into the lava-blood pouring from the creature's wounds, Si-Yi prepares his sword and performs a mighty slice towards another tentacle before the monster can recover from Olivius' stab.

Attack: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 5) + 3 = 11
Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 2

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Si-Yi sighs in resignation when he sees the creature switch forms into something vaguely octopus-looking. Doesn't the monster know when to quit? Well, perhaps it will come into its senses and just give up if it's slashed with pointy things enough times, the barbarian thinks and proceeds to attempt to do just that, swinging his sword at one of the monster's eight tentacles.

Hack & Slash: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 3) + 2 = 7
Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 8

DM Frogfoot wrote:

...Si-Yi - its fist is the size of a wagon and coming at you, what do you do?

Si-Yi takes one look at rapidly approaching fist of stone and decides that trying to stay on the creature's shoulders just isn't worth it. Quickly, he jumps off from the creature towards the ground, figuring that even if he messes up the landing it would hurt less than being hit by its fist and then falling to the ground.

Defy Danger(Dex): 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 5) + 1 = 10

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Thanks guys. :D I like how the system lets you be a badass barbarian right from level 1. (as long as you roll >6, of course)

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Not seeing any reliable way to get away in time before the beast crushes him, Si-Yi decides that offense is the best defense, even against giant masonry-snakes. Instead of dodging away from the massive monster, he jumps towards it, swinging his blade in a wide arc towards the creature's neck just as its mass begins to descend towards the barbarian.

Hack & Slash: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 4) + 3 = 11
Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 8

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Si-Yi just stands there, not even blinking when the gigantic stone-beast charges towards him. The snake moves closer and closer, until the monster's maws are only at an arm's length away from the elf's throat, and that's when he finally acts.

In a split second, the barbarian has grabbed the creature's head from both its top and bottom, and is pushing the teeth-filled maws against one another in a desperate struggle to keep the beast from opening its mouth and tearing off a limb... Or worse.

Defy Danger(Str): 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 5) + 2 = 12

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Si-Yi stays where he was, at the centre of the room, holding his sword like one would hold a baseball bat and staring at the wall the harpies are trying to break down.

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Si-Yi raises an eyebrow at Olivius' sudden outburst of nobleness. Looks like the poor guy got one hit too many to the head...

Then he raises an eyebrow at the weird giant-cat thing that Sinathel has turned into. He sighs, and starts following her up the stairs, but not without mumbling something about "silly jungle elves" and "absolutely inappropiate-sized cats".

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Sorry Olivius, I tried. :/ At least you can die happy knowing that I got an XP trying to save you.

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Si-Yi suddenly realizes that Olivius is not faring well against the harpies. Not well at all. If he doesn't do something quick, then the thief is dead... And who would then be sent first to all the dirty and dangerous-looking places?

The barbarian rushes to interpose himself between the harpies and Olivius, twirling his sword in a defensive manner. "I will not let you pass, you oversized ugly chickens!"

Defend: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 4) = 5

...But before the harpies even try to pass, he stumbles into a piece of bookcase lying in the ground, barely managing to stay standing, yet alone defend anyone.

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Hey guys, sorry for not posting in a while. I've been quite busy the last few days and will still be a few days, but I'll try to squeeze a post in once in a while.

Si-Yi stands with his sword drawn while looking into the other room through the open door, ready to rush in and severely hurt anyone who tries to harm the second-smartest member of the group. (The smartest being the elven barbarian himself, of course)

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Don't I take any damage from the bolt?

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

I'm pretty sure that I still need to roll Defy Danger, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Defy Danger (Dex): 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 1) + 1 = 3

Si-Yi gracefully leaps through the air in an arcobatic evading maneuvre. Too bad that he only does it after the bolt has struck him into the shoulder. Painfully. Feeling rather annoyed by this, he charges the lone monk reloading his crossbow, determined to avoid getting hit by another bolt.

Hack and Slash: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 1) + 2 = 6 Level 10, here we come! :D

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Si-Yi had assumed that the armed monks were just trying to protect the monastery from harpies, and is rather surprised by their sudden attack on Hawke. He recovers from the shock soon enough, however, and raises his two-handed sword high before closing in and swinging the sharpened steel agains the monks assaulting the fighter.

Hack and Slash!: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 5) + 2 = 13
Damage!: 1d10 ⇒ 8

DM Frogfoot wrote:

I'm not sure if having a bond with every PC in your party is strictly necessary, but it's probably good practice to keep Hawke's character in mind as we progress to think up a bond on your own that would make sense.

Otherwise, we're ready to begin! Si-Yi, I'll start by asking you - why did you leave your homeland? Answer, and you earn an XP.

Travelling away from his homeland wasn't really something Si-Yi had given much thought... That was, until his social status took a big plunge during a period of internal conflict. After his parents were executed for voicing "treasonous" opinions, he was demoted from the heir of a noble family to a common slave, as tradition commanded to be done in situations like that. As the importance of respecting tradition had been hammered into his head from as long as he could remember, he accepted his lot... Until several months of hard labour made him realize that the tradition of his people is in fact pretty damn stupid, and he escaped the country.

To this day, Si-Yi holds a slightly irrational grudge against the concept of tradition.

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

By the way, if it seems like Si-Yi doesn't have much of a backstory, it is because of the barbarian's race ability.

You may be elf, dwarf, halfling, or human, but you and your people
are not from around here. At the beginning of each session, the GM
will ask you something about your homeland, why you left, or what
you left behind. If you answer them, mark XP.

So I figured that I'll just let you ask and come up with stuff as it's needed. Saves me a lot of trouble. :D If you want something more to work with, tell me and I shall ignore you dutifully obey.

Male Elf Barbarian 2 HP: 20/20 XP: 2

Just realized that I forgot a bond for Dambreth.

"_______________ is always getting into trouble—I must protect
them from themselves" Would probably fit at least somewhat. Not that he necessarily is getting himself into troble, it's enough that Si-Yi thinks so. :P

And I think that Si-Yi might get along well with the thief... After all, one of his appetites is "Riches and propety". :D

And I have an alias! I even found a good picture fast!
