Excellent! Thank you

Hello all! I have an idea for a gourd leshy champion with ranged reprisal. If I have a free hand and my champion reaction is triggered, could I draw a chakram from the leshy's head and throw it as part of that reaction?

Ranged reprisal means that I can strike with a ranged weapon, gourd leshy let's me draw an object from there head as part of the action to use it. I realise that it has to be a single object (I originally thought of a whole head of thrown weapons), but it might be fun. I'm just unsure about the interaction with reactions.

Realised that I should probably put my entry here for the additional table. I have an overprotective goblin who aspires to knighthood, ready for his first foray into society life.

I'd be up for that if you've still got room :)

Hahaha, I had no idea it was the name of a feat. I just meant flavour-wise, the character will just shout out loads of silly names for the things she does.

I'm starting to like the idea of Gymnast with Titan Wrestler now. A small bouncy goblin with no idea of self preservation clotheslining an ogre because her chicken told her to lol. If there's some kind of glamoured armour available, all the better

Thank you for the thorough responses! One for All seems like a great place to start, and it seems like Swashbuckler is a very suitable class.

@YuriP: I like the idea that she just thinks she has magical powers, although I'm not against a little magic. Something like a fire rune does sound like fun though, for a no magic build!

I'm thinking maybe BattleDancer with One for All, Marshal Dedication for the Aura and Leading Dance to get Panache with some battlefield control? I'm not sure if that leaves me bereft of attacking options though, since I've yet to play combat in PF2e

I've been thinking about getting back into PbP after five years of grad school and figured it would be a great time to dip my toes into PF2E too. That means I need to build a fun character using a brand new ruleset (to me) and was wondering if y'all had any words of wisdom to share.

Quote:
Concept: A Goblin who has been working as a farm hand for the last few years is convinced that one of the chickens is talking to her, convincing her that she has latent magical powers and a heroic destiny. A familiar is not necessary because it might be funnier to just be a regular chicken, but I would like her to be great at support (the power of friendship!) while still getting into the fray herself, calling all her attacks like any true magical girl ('Whirlwind STRIIIIKE!!!'). I also like the idea that she can take a lot of damage and keep going if possible, with things like Unbreakable Goblin heritage.

I think Swashbuckler would be a great chasis, but build-wise, I'm way out of my depth. I have seen suggestions of Bards or Marshal archtypes to help with the support, but would a straight Swashbucker work just as well?

Any advice for builds would be most welcome!

As much as I am looking forward to this game, life is getting crazy and it looks like I will have to step down. Sorry for the late drop out, GM, but I was really hoping things would calm down a bit so that I could give PF2 a go. I guess my deaf, escaped slave, giant totem halfling barbarian will have to wait for another day. :(

I really like the looks of the barbarian, I'm open for any race to keep the party diverse. :)

Thanks, Redelia! I'm super excited to give this new system a go. :)

I'd like to throw my hat into the ring and would love to give the PF2 playtest a go!

Congratulations!!!

OMG I have a stalker!!! Hehe, howdy Gummy Bear. :)

My PFS Session Tracker is all up to date, and it tells me I've only played 24 out of the huge number available, so I should be good to play most games. Oh, and I should get my first star in a few months, so that'll help too. I haven't got any specific requests for themes or locations, except maybe the world wound if I play my Paladin.

I have three characters in range, and can always make a fresh one should it be needed:

Halfling Chosen One Paladin 1.1 who's pretty fun to play, and my top choice.
Leshy Plant Master Hunter 1.1 with a focus on feeding his pet Slithering Sundew.
Human Warpriest 1.2 who has a fun habit of using his bow as a club more than as a ranged weapon.

Howdy folks! Count me in. :)

I'll have to remember that for next time. :)

Dang! I knew I should have offered cookies. Never mind, I hope y'all have fun!

This is one adventure path that I would absolutely love to play!

Kronas & Luna: Gathering information about a festival.
Lord Braggett Fizzlebotham the Fourth: Providing a distraction for his comrades.
Raia: Flustered in her first space battle (after a bad skill roll.)
Tupp: Distractedly sneaking into the enemy's hideout.
Eadric: Excited for a new mission.

Okay, so it looks like most of y'all are magically inclined, so I will probably go for a front-liner. I'm leaning towards a swashbuckler. I've never played one before, and a charismatic fighter with plenty of daring-do does sound quite fun.

Hello folks!

Unfortunately the game with the character that would have been used here hasn't been updated for a week, so it looks like I will have to use a Pregen for the first module at least. As such, I'll wait until everybody has introduced their characters before picking something to appropriately fill in any gaps in the party. ;)

Thanks for the invite GM!

I would like to throw my hat into the ring as one of the experienced players, if you'll have me.

1. Urgent

Starfinder avatars

2. Useful

Selecting a default alias per campaign, or even just defaulting to the alias that was last used in each campaign.

3. Nice to have

I'm a serial tinkerer of first level characters and the option to change alias names after 10 posts would be super nice.

After ten posts the name gets locked, but everything else (including the icon) are still changable.

Thanks Chris!

Woop, it looks like we have a full crew. Welcome aboard Poblano!

Yes please! The anticipation is killing me.

And there was me thinking that it would be impossible to make puns out of the Vesk. :)

Welcome aboard JamZilla! The soldier class does look like an interesting take on the pure martial character, I'm looking forward to seeing Obo in action.

As for me, my first choice is for Raia, but if any of y'all have your heart set on her, my second and third choices are Quig and Altronus.

Yeah, just someone who wants to boldly go where no Lashunta has gone before ♫ Doo dooooo do do do doooo ♫ That's star trek music by the way :)

I think Raia just jumped to the top of the list of iconics I'd like to play. She seems to have the sort of personality I like to play :)

Thank you Hmm for overseeing the whole event! It must have been crazy with so many tables over multiple boards, but your posts really added to the epic feel of the scenario.

Woops, I forgot say I was considering going the weapon finesse route, but that would have been a bad idea if I wanted to wear any decent armour *face palms*

Anywho, I like the looks of 14 str + 12 dex. That would be a +3 (or +4 with flagbearer) to hit at first level, which isn't awful. And if I don't plan on doing to much trick riding, I won't need too high a dex for the ride skill anyway.

Okay, so here's what I have so far for a Cleric based build. I went for a base cleric rather than evangelist because I wanted the good domain and I need the chivalry inquisition if I want to keep my mount at full levels... I think.

Gnome Cavalier (order of the lion) 2 \ Cleric 9

Str: 10, Dex: 16, Con: 12, Int: 10, Wis: 14, Cha: 15

Cavalier gives:
A mount (bodyguard archetype) without ACP on ride checks and light armour proficiency.
The ability to grant Escape Route (or other teamwork feat?) to allies once a day.
Poor man's inspire courage unlimited times a day (order ability).

Cleric gives:
Good domain for some lovely buffs (the added mobility from a mount may make this even better)
Chivalry inquisition for full level advancement of mount
Cleric spells up to level 5 (only miss out on 1 level 6 spell by multiclassing which I think is alright.

Buff specific feats:
Flag bearer: always grant +1 to hit and damage to nearby allies (or would a wand of bless be better?)
Lookout: for both mount and rider to always get the opportunity to buff allies in a surprise round.

----------------

I quite like the abilities, but I think I need to work on the stat array a little more. The -2 to Str really hurts now. I may have to lower Cha to try and bolster the combat stats.

Excellent suggestions everybody. Thank you!

Claxon wrote:
How do you want to define knight?

For the purposes of this build, a Knight is a Gnome who rides on wolfback in full plate (or probably medium armour because of weight issues).

@Scott Wilhelm: Thank you for the off-beat suggestions, Scott. I did briefly look into Ranger, but they didn't seem to be any better at buffing than a standard Cavalier. Infusions would be quite fun, but I think the Alchemist levels required to pull it off well might hit the Knightly aspect of the build too hard.

@The Dandy Lion: Hehe, Contageous Zeal does look like it would be both fun and very useful. It has been added to my wishlist, thanks.

@Claxon: I had never really considered a Cleric before because they always seemed a little boring to me. However an Evangelist with a mount may be worth another look! I am a little concerned that they would have difficulties holding their own in combat though. I will definitely look into it though, thank you.

@Sir Thugsalot: Thank you.

@UnArcaneElection: A Cavalier VMC Bard would probably be perfect for me, but alas, this is for PFS so that is unfortunately out of the question. I like the thought of handing out teamwork feats instead of the usual buffs, but Cavaliers have so few uses of Tactician. Holy Tactician may be an answer to that... Hmm, I may have to rethink my aversion for Paladins. Thank you.

Thank you again everybody! I will look more closely at the divine casters (especially Evangelist Cleric) and see what I can come up with.

Wow, I have never seen that Inquisition before, it looks perfect! Thank you! I'll look into it further and perhaps the Tactical Leader archetype (which is also brand new to me) if I can justify buying two new books :)

About the Battle Herald, perhaps I should have said it leaves me confused, having to remember the difference between inspire command and performance rounds. Plus there are so many commands to choose from... Anywho, all of your suggestions are fantastic! I now have somewhere to start from. Thanks again!

What would you say is a good way to make a Knight-like character who can also hand out a buff or two in PFS? I currently have a Gnome Cavalier and I am having quite a bit of fun riding into the fray on the back of a valiant steed. I also have a flag bearing Bard and enjoy passing out the buffs. However, what I really want is something in between, A mounted Knight who can buff. Obviously I'm not expecting the best melee fighter in the world if they are also concentrating on buffing their pals, but is it possible to make a passable build?

I know that a Paladin may fit the bill, but I don't want to be tied to the code of conduct. I have also considered the Battle Herald, but it seems a little confused to me. Are there any other classes, archetypes, or feats that might fit the bill?

I always like to see new players! I remember when I first found out about PbP and realised that I could actually play RPGs again, 'twas an exciting time :)

I don't believe I've had the pleasure to play with either of you before, but you are undoubtedly awesome people. Maybe we'll meet again in a cantina in the future? Until then, keep your jet packs oiled and your lasers on medium rare.

Hi everybody!

All the iconics look great so far, it'll be hard to choose. I'm not 100% sure the operative class is for me though, so Iseph may be out. I'm leaning more towards Navasi or Obozaya, but I am really curious about mechanics and can't wait to read about Quig.

Oh and here's a Link for the Best Pregen Ever! ;)

Sounds awesome! There's going to be a lot of firsts for me with Gameday VI. I have never played with pregens or characters higher than level 3 before, and (perhaps, obviously) it will be my first experience with Starfinder. Reading all the snippets coming through the blog, it sounds like I was going to have trouble deciding what character to create (so many cool options). So playing a high (for me) level adventure with pregens should be a great way to get an idea for what Starfinder is all about before I commit to anything. Can't wait for it to start!

I was also a little confused about that after seeing conflicting information around the boards. Thanks guys! That link saves me another question in the future :)

That's excellent news, with the sections being so close, I was a little confused. Thank you for the answer!

The site only just came back online for me. I've been trying to access it all day. As a player, I really like the idea of a chat so that I can let people know why I'm not posting.

Whatever your Goblins did seems to have worked... for me at least. I can visit all parts of the site now, rather than just the https parts.

I was thinking of hiring a spellcaster to put Continual Flame on my Gnome Cavalier's sword (or his pants, because he's a habitual liar). However, he is low level and wouldn't normally be able to purchase a non-standard item worth 110gp. So I was wondering, are spellcasting services subject to the fame restrictions on purchased items, or are they always available?

Welcome to the Flaxseed Lodge, Agent Eclipse! GM Aeon is currently recruiting for a set of scenarios that are perfect for new players and their characters. Although the sign-up sheet is full, GM Aeon said that they wanted to give priority to new players. So you are welcome to take my spot if you want it, just replace my details at the bottom of the sheet with yours.

Here's the link

Don't worry, it all looks fine to me. Two out of the three tables are still full, and the other was pretty much empty anyway.

Excellent! Thanks man.

Hi ho good people of the internet,

I'm just putting the finishing touches on my first PFS character before they reach level 2, and have a quick question about the flagbearer feat:

Flagbearer:
As long as you hold your clan, house, or party’s flag, members of that allegiance within 30 feet who can see the flag (including yourself ) gain a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, and saving throws against fear and charm effects. You must hold the flag in one hand in order to grant this bonus. If the standard is taken by the enemy or destroyed, this bonus becomes a penalty, affecting all creatures that the bonus previously affected for 1 hour (or until you reclaim the lost flag).

I plan to hold the banner in one hand (it looks so darn heroic with a sword in the other) and was kind of hoping that I would be able to wear a buckler in the same hand. I'm starting to think that it might not be possible, but I have to ask because, with enchantments, it could be so handy. Does anyone know the ruling on this?

Also, if the buckler is a no go, would the improvised defense trait be a way to at least get a +1 to AC? That is, would the flag count as an improvised weapon?

Improvised defense:
Whenever you wield an improvised weapon, you gain a +1 shield bonus to AC. If you use the improvised weapon to attack, you lose this shield bonus until the beginning of your next turn.

Yay, I've signed up. Now all those years of reading Calvin & Hobbes will pay off! Starfinder Society sounds like the perfect place for Spaceman Spiff (interplanetary explorer extraordinaire) as he explores the outermost reaches of the universe by popular request. It all rests upon the availability of Death Ray Zorchers for our characters. :)

Invest in knowledges. Leaning the language of draconic should tell you that it's used by.. well. dragons. But kobolds? Not so much.

That would be the ideal solution, but the character is a Cavalier without the skill points to spare

Murdock Mudeater wrote:
Do you really need a shared language to "Taunt" people? Definitely works in real life without a language, just sounds, faces and pointing.

While I can't find anything in the rules that says it is language dependant, the flavour of the feat certainly suggests that characters are using their words... I'm not sure now though. Would it be a bit cheesy to use taunt and a order of the cockatrice's dazzling display to demoralize without using a language that is understood?

Thanks people! I could certainly work with just knowing the basic races (goblin and orc certainly implies knowledge that those races speak them :) ). But it does sound like some table variation is possible, and I should ask GMs before starting scenarioa. If all else fails, perhaps I could just try goading monsters in different languages until I get a reaction, then go for a demoralize action.

I am working on a character concept for PFS that uses the Taunt feat to boast and demoralise his opponents, but I'm unsure if he would know which language to use.

Taunt:
You can demoralize opponents using Bluff rather than Intimidate (see the Intimidate skill description for details) and take no skill check penalty for being smaller than your target.

I assume that the demoralize action must now be language dependent and I have taken appropriate steps for him to know as many languages as possible.
My question is: If my character is fluent in Giant (or some other language), would he know to use that language to taunt a Troll (or other appropriate monster)?
