Ryul enjoys the celebration of a mission well done and is quite happy everything worked out great!

He eyes suspiciously the goblins that follow them around, but warms up to a young strong one named Firebreaker and begins teaching him some basic sword slashes as they travel.

Who knows, maybe he will end up with an apprentice.

I am pretty sure that was our first GM to run twice, so everyone else should still be due. I can’t GM song of the Sea Witch, but could run one of the many Blackross scenarios, if y’all want me to go next (which would be fine with my schedule).

So unless someone has an itch to volunteer and run something, I will start working on a scenario.

Edit to Add: It will probably be #6-02: The Silver Mount Collection.

FJC questions for either of the following two. Hopefully both apply so I can pick and choose.

Defeat an outsider that has the evil subtype or an undead creature whose CR is at least equal to your character level.

Elementals are usually neutral, but this may have been evilly influenced or templated.

Or

Rescue a named NPC who is a divine spellcaster with a good-aligned deity or a named outsider with the good subtype. Alternatively, collaborate with the NPC to overcome an obstacle directly related to the PC’s success conditions, such as defeating a foe, summoned outsiders do not contribute to this goal, but called ones do if not coerced into service.

Maybe the Druid follows a NG deity? It’s a stretch but worth asking. Or also we may have done this in the entry village encounters.

Ryul thinks for a little and replies, ”My gut feeling is that the goblins didn’t intend to activate it, because why would they wish to burn their home down? They aren’t that insane. And they obviously didn’t have the ability to deactivate it, so it was probably an accident or outside of their control. And what did they do afterwards? They tried to stop the fires and then risked their lives to help us. I’d say they certainly deserve a second chance at living here. We should tell the centaurs and villagers that, at least.”

Ryul's crumpled body stabilizes and then stirs after being poked by the wand (or channeled if that is done instead).

He rolls over, takes in the scene of no current enemies, then looks up at the cleric, "Well, that wasn't enjoyable. Good work finishing that thing off."

The elf glances over to see Jack stirring as well, "Fortune favored us, Jack. Fortune in the form of our allies." He grabs his blade and stands, before pulling a wand out and handing it to Cortina for some extra healing. As that occurs, he begins cleaning the dirt and blood from his uniform before calling out to the rogue, "Got it stopped Paul?"

Prestidigitation used for the cleaning. Ryul will also agree to drag the obelisk back for study and containment.

Ryul's Wand of CLW: 4d8 + 4 ⇒ (2, 3, 3, 7) + 4 = 19

Not full, but over 20HP will work.

Jack doesn’t have cover from Ryul and the enemy has combat reflexes? Crud.

Ryul shouts out, ”Bring it down or we all die like Jack!”

The elf frantically slashes at the foe with all his might.

MW ECB: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 for Slashing: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

Ryul looks juuuust a bit concerned as his shield and armor do almost nothing.

He coughs out a comment as quite a bit of his blood drips to the ground, ”Can’t… take much… more of that.”

The elf speaks another word as he traces an intricate rectangular pattern in front of himself, ”suojata.” A shimmering elven battle shield forms, floating free and staying between himself and the flaming bones.

He strides forward, placing himself between Jack and the foe.

Cast Shield, header AC updated, move w/ tumble attempt to avoid AoO.

Acrobatics v CMD: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19

The silver haired elf steps back, draws his sword and points at the ground under the burning bone dragon, ”Liukas.”

5-ft step out of reach range, move to draw sword, standard to cast Grease under dragon, DC 14 Reflex or it falls prone.

1) Ryul will drink the potion as well. 2) I FINALLY updated the map slides at the top to be the correct ones, sorry it took so long. 3) I'll wait to see what develops before posting an action. 4) Any Knowledge checks here?

"Watch out, there are Fire Dragonbone things!"

Ryul smiles, ”You are welcome, we are happy to help.”

He hands the ring to Paloma and the leaf to Paul.

”Fire Elementals wearing dragon skeletons? What an interesting development. We should head there right away.”

The elf wracks his brain for any tidbits of useful information ahead of the encounter.

Knowledge: Planes t: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

Oh yeah, loot allocation. I think Jack should get the swarmbane amulet and Paul should have the necklace we just acquired here. If neither of them can use it I say Cheeper gets something (I am pretty sure cats can use necklaces).

The elf’s hand sneakily slips away from his weapon as his muscles relax, ”Well handled Paloma, our group’s versatility comes in handy again. We should look for their owners if we can, and not just because they are probably an elf.”

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Ryul places his hand on his sword handle, but waits to draw it, ”That is a… hopeful thought. Perhaps you will be right.”

Jumping out of the way and risking burns seems smart if the wild empathy fails. But then again, Ryul has some default fire resistance already so he would understand if the rest of you didn’t feel the same. :D

Ryul chimes in, ”Or science. A lot of things you don’t think can burn, can burn. But this seems to be unusual circumstances so it’s probably something magical or infernal.”

He looks down at the goblin and rubs his chin, ”So you swear this account of yours is the truth? And you are willing to risk your life to take us back there? We are formidable allies, but if you cross us, even more formidable foes.” The last part is spoken very much like a statement, not a specific threat. Simply that it is the way it is.

Ryul comments, ”It is odd that the goblins are helping. It was indicated to us that they caused the fire. Are there two tribes on such polar opposites of destruction and protection here?”

He scans the situation as he waits for the answer, planning out how to help best. High ground seems useful here.

Ryul raises an eyebrow, ”Is that similar to the elven saying that roughly translates to ‘Curiosity killed the kobold’? Anyway, we should stop by the town, make sure they are ok and pick up any extra traveling supplies we may need.”

As his group reconvenes with the centaurs and begins the process of healing, Ryul steps forward and accepts the gift, ”Thank you, we will use it well. Where do we need to go to find this source of the flame? And how far will it take to travel?”

I concur, using my reroll on that 15.

Fully updated! Purchased two potions (CLW and Bless Weapon) and scribed a spell from an NPC (expeditious retreat).

He also chose his two spells at level 2 (Hold Portal and Protection from Evil). All those spells are merely in his spellbook as he will keep the same spells prepared as when we started.

Ryul quickly shouts, ”We are no allies of chaos, we are here to help. In fact, we can help very quickly. Those brambles there are fire resistant and very wet. Drag them across open flame and it will be extinguished.”

Mostly updated here. Header gtg, main profile just missing a few things like boons and such. But skills and stats are done.

Ryul shares what little he knows about the locals and pockets the items.

He then asks an unrelated question, ”I was told my equipment request would meet me here, did you get anything from the Arnisant Museum?”

Checking one box of the Arnisant Museum Patron boon we just got to borrow a +1 Elven Curved Blade for this mission.

Ryul takes notes, as little as there are for the mission. He greets the group, ”Well met again. It seems the society has solid trust in us.”

He tries to recall anything about the area.

And then asks the VC, ”How far is the travel and if significant, will we be getting magical assistance to get there ‘with haste’ as you mentioned?”

You could be a level 1 (or higher) Abjuration Wizard like Ryul. :D

It may be Monday before I can update Ryul, but I may be able to post in gameplay soon.

Chronicle looks good, some cool things there for a Core Campaign. Nice.

Awesome! That build and character looks to be well suited to fit into our group.

Is anyone currently planning on a dip into rogue at some point to be our backup trapfinder/disabler when Paul is GM'ing?

I think we could probably be fine without one for one session every couple levels if no one can swing that into their build, but if someone was already planning it that would be cool.

Ryul agrees, ”Yeah, a magical item like that should be saved and studied, not destroyed. I figure one could nullify the eavesdropping ability pretty easily. But… it’s not legally my property so I don’t have a strong say.”

Ryul listens carefully to the briefing, then answers Jack’s comment.

”The painting was of the Earl and was also magically spying on the museum. It’s how they knew we were in town and organized the hanging rally so quickly.”

Ryul steps up to the doorway and swings his curved blade at the red painted helm, ”Good work, keep them pinned here.”

Ryul casts a spell and a shimmering silver shield manifests in front of him, floating and darting around. He steps forward and draws his thin long sword as Cashel commands an orderly evacuation, ”I’ll distract the cursed objects from this direction, you all move into position to strike them down.”

Ryul adds his thoughts, ”I would be happy to submit to a cleric to prove I wasn’t a demon. But I don’t think that would appease this witch hunt as some other weak excuse would be used next. So why don’t we just end this charade, Sir?”

Primary should probably have been Paloma, I missed when checking that she has a +6.

Ryul adds his comments but defers the main argument to his colleague, ”In addition, we even went out of our way to keep the pirates alive. Justice can be served without the executions.”

Diplomacy Aid: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Ryul’s shame flares for a moment as he realized the trap they just walked into. But as quickly as it comes, it goes. His practiced logical mind working through the appropriate response. He drifts slowly through the crowd and ends up stepping just in front of Cashel as Jack finishes speaking (and close enough for bit of luck).

”My companions have spoken well. And calmly. I shall do the same. We have been here barely twenty four hours. In that time, we have conducted ourselves with complete respect for your traditions and laws. Also in that time, we have uncovered concerning evidence. I repeat. Actual evidence of abuse of power. What did we do with that evidence? We submitted it through the proper channels, to our local magistrate.”

He takes a short pause and adds, ”Now, we are at a crossroads. A point of decision. Earl Calhadion Vernisant is presumably asking you all to take the law into your hands and enact mob justice against us. Why else would he create this spectacle and rile you all up with powerful words? So I want each of you to look inward and carefully ask yourself, do you want to really get involved here? Or should you just allow the courts to work it out and allow all our evidence to see the light of day?

Ryul doesn’t take his eyes off the crowd, scanning it for the Earl. He adds his last question to the magistrate, ”Any progress on the legal status of our mutual investigation?”

Ryul slips over to the magistrate and whispers, ”What’s going on?”

Ryul nods at the first suggestion, ”I didn’t grab much today for breakfast, a nice meal would be good. After that we can help investigate animal care, if needed.”

Ryul releases a contented sigh, ”Thank you ma’am, we appreciate dealing with reasonable people. I’ll go start working on the outline for my own report, there is always paperwork to do. Let us know if you need further assistance from your new temporary deputies.”
