I am Rahtotep, Elementalist and son of Azir. I greet you all from Cheliax where I scribe this letter. Recently I have explored a relic from times past, a city that was once part of the Jitska Imperium. As many of you might know , it occupied much of Rahadoum in the past and also extended into what is now Cheliax. Now many of you might ask, what does the Imperium have to do with the Rule of Man? Perhaps everything, perhaps nothing. From what knowledge we have we know that the arcanists of the Imperium used a combination of binding and golemcraft to create vast legions of constructs powered by what most would term demonic power. Such power made the Imperiums armies nigh unbeatable and it is only the coincidence of the cosmos that the Osirion empire was itself also growing. Two such forces were bound to strike each other and they did. We may never know what was that event that caused the downfall of the imperium but I stood in evidence that such a place existed to begin with just yesterday. I realised one thing. While History interests me to points of obsession, I am not obsessed with repeating it's mistakes. This is something all of mankind should strive to see. We live amongst the ruins of our mistakes, yet our leaders do not see them. Perhaps it is because my time amongst the Society grows short, perhaps it is because I find that the flame within me burns in a different direction. I know now. I am sure that Man is the best equipped to decide his own fate. Whilst we can start and wage war, we are also the only ones who can stop it.
Greetings , It is with amazement and somewhat of consternation that I read the latest letter from the Sapphire sage. His indication that the Diamond sage is located in Eto warms my heart like the Midday sun. However the fact that several stones lay buried near the Diamond sage and that these stones are relics of forgotten lore I find amazing. Wait however. I also feel a deep.. perhaps .. sense of fear that these stones are all together. I have been a agent of the lodge for sometime and as I am sure many of you are too. We know that often when something appears in our favor, it is anything but. I am also worried what effect the rise of new jeweled sages would have on the face of Golarion and the Society. While it is true that the Society is generally benevolent, can anyone doubt that the seed of corruption is present or that everyone they have traveled with is pure of heart?. I can honestly say I cannot, thus it worries me that we will find these relics. I am not sure who I would become were I to find one. I would ask that we make sure that we secure these items as soon as we find them. Rahtotep,
'They are incredibly difficult to control, young Mara. However apparently very easy to summon from their abodes. I noticed that the ones I was facing were telepathic and slightly resistant to fire. If I have my terms right, they were Ceustodaemons.' 'I would not attempt to converse with one though, I doubt they would be great conversationalists as the only thing they are interested in .. is your soul.
'What is more disturbing than any demon or devil are the daemons. I have encountered several myself recently' Rahtotep , a very obese Garundi man with a shock of Red hair interjects. ' With a Demon I can be sure that they will seek to corrupt and destroy. A Devil will attempt to bargain and entice. A Daemon on the other end .. just seeks to end all things. I only mention them as very little is known about them. Even in the times of the Jistka Imperium which is my own study of importance, they are barely mentioned. '
Fellow servants of the Ruby Prince, I am unsure why some of you seem to jest in regards to the affliction that so recently beset the Ruby Prince. Would you also mock someone who perhaps had to view it before handing it to the Ruby Prince if they had been struck down by the same curse first? That person might not have been a powerful priest of Abadar. He may of been simply a court official with not powers to heal himself. Whilst I was in Varisia, and more importantly several ruins of Thassilonian origin, I came to several conclusions one of which has already been espoused by another previously. - That the item was targeted at the Ruby Prince or a person capable of wielding divine power. Although I somewhat doubt the likelihood of the latter as anyone smart enough to make such an item would also be smart enough to know that a Priest would have the power to heal themself. - That we know truly little about Varisia and the lands outside Garund proper. This is true and one of the many reasons that the Ruby Prince has asked us to travel.. to be his eyes and ears. We only learn by exploring that we do not know. - That the cult of Lissala was likely involved. Whilst the Consortium was visable last year, truly the threat came from Lissala a quasi Thassilonian deity obsessed with order and runic knowledge. I have had many .. dealings with followers of she and to say they are a tolerant lot is never an accusation I would make. Even with recent events there, do not discount them in the future. The other views I have do not yet have a firm roots in fact, yet I will continue to gather what information I can. With known powers of the Jeweled Sages however, perhaps they will know who the villain of this even was. Rahtotep
DeviantDiva, I have been following the illness of the Ruby Prince since he first fell victim to the relic from Varisia. With what you know now, can you doubt that it was not a test of the Pathfinder Societies power and influence? The Ruby Prince knew at any time he could cure himself yet injured himself yes, so that the Society might benefit by curing him itself. The fact that we could not because of either inaction by some Pathfinders or other reasons, meant that we failed this test and thus diminished the Ruby Prince's view of the society. We could regain this in the future possibly but an old age remains the same. It is easier to find what one has lost then have to purchase another. I think sadly over the past few years, we have seen an increase in members of the society who are quick to blame others for their misfortunes and those that are utterly unprepared for what they might find in ancient lairs and locations. Further, some newer members do not even know what Osirion stands for or what the Society itself stands for, happy to dwell in the blood of their enemies as they simply kill, then sleep then kill again. I was in a situation recently negotiating a settlement with an equal when one of my team went... feral. Like a Wild snapping desert Hyena he launched into action because... and I will quote 'We were not going to succeed'. It took every ounce of my wisdom to not simply turn him over to our then enemies. Whilst this in indeed a shame, it does mean that we now work somewhat beyond the 'official' gaze of the Ruby Prince. Do I believe he does not know we still work for the interests of Osirion? Of course not. The Ruby Prince is probably reading this letter even now. The Sapphire Sage I believe in my heart most deep works too for Osirion. Rahtotep,
You are far too late Jack Rabbit Slim. The Ruby Prince cured himself more than a month ago with the divine power of the Golden Coin, Abadar. He then gave the Sapphire Sage his leave and now the Ruby Prince has no connection to the Osirion Pathfinder grouping. What this means for the Risen is unknown. How they can still be connected to the society must be resolved soon. Rahtotep
Grundmoch Honored Sapphire Sage, It is with some measure of alarm that I read about our hopefully not final interaction with the Ruby Prince. In my travels of the former Thassilonian Empire I decided to start studying the lore of that once powerful empire. Adopting what the locals refer to as 'Bloat' magic I have progressed someway down that Path. It is a most interesting form of magic, one that is not at all present in any other culture I have seen. Now that our path has changed, I will continue to serve the Ruby Prince in secret as well as Spirit and will assist you in tracking down the remnants of the Jeweled Sages. Perhaps there are some records of them in my own libraries back in Rahadoum and I am sure there must be something on these sages in the little information I have gleaned while researching the Jitska Imperium. I am unsure of our .. status now within Osirion. Will we face our brothers in Osirion now that we have not the grace of the Ruby Prince? This will make researching there difficult. Rahtotep,
I have been to Varisia many times of late and it was at the urging of Amenopheus that I started my in depth study of the cult of Lissala and Thassilonian magic. We are as much to blame as you Amenopheus in regards to the condition of the Ruby Price and I have noticed that there has been less information forthcoming of late regarding his condition.
I am Rahtotep, Elementalist and son of Azir, These are my musings on the Laws of Man and how they intertwine with man's greatest enemy. Man is it's own worst enemy. No Demon, Devil , Genie, Marid or Dragon can ever hope to match the depravity of man. Indeed many such creatures only are formed by the thoughts of man or the death of man or the avarice of man. The history of Thassilon, that ancient empire born from the Wisdom of man but doomed by his sins shows that Man is capable of feats capable of standing the test of time. The Cyphergate, The great sea bridge. Ruins that are still active with power. These things are a testament to man, to his ingenuity. Sadly they serve a twice function: they are also symbol of what man's pride can do. Half broken they remind us that power is not controlled forever. A Watched fire if left alone can become a raging inferno, eager to devour all around it. There would be no Korvosa, No Magnimar if that power had not corrupted those it touched or if they had not simply acted within boundaries. The Laws of man do not doubt the existence of the Gods. That would be foolish. Gods obviously exist. Aroden himself a man of Azlant rose in power to the point where he became a God. Perhaps Kalim Onaku could see the future many of us could not. Rahadoum may not have a league of Clerics to call on should famine arise, but neither should it ever need to fear that in the future a despot armed with the so call power of the gods will rise. The Laws of Man thus protect man... from himself.
I am Rahtotep, Elementalist Greetings all from yet another Dry and parched day in Azir, capital of Rahadoum, In my travels through Varisia, Absalom (both above and below) and other lands I have seen many workings of the divine yet never once has it shaken my faith in the Laws of Man signed so many years ago in this fair jewel of the desert. Yes I am sure you must ask, how can you claim to be a follower of the Ruby Prince when you believe that no power can be higher than man? I do believe there is a power greater than man. The power that lets one fire jets of flame from ones fingers, the power that lets man control the naked flame, the power that can incinerate fields by bringing fire rain. That power comes from somewhere. Some ascribe that power to the Gods.. those distant powers to themselves who seek to engulf the world in the fire of their own self righteousness. The same powers remember are born of man. There are so called Gods today who became what they are because of a test in a Cathedral in Absalom. I think no better sign of why Rahadoum did the right thing can be found in this. Would you want a neighbour to suddenly be one who desired worship, who had cults of crazed worshippers to perform acts in their name?. The same neighbour who had the same vices... as yourself? Just because this neighbour completed a test (no matter how hard the endeavour was) does not entitle them to such power or standing. Yet we have other powers than I am more familiar with. Being a disciple of the flame, I have spent considerable years studing how the naked flame burns, how it consumes yet how it also purifies. A Natural progression of our rejection of the divine has been to embrace other forms of power. While there are those that seem to dam this power inside of them, others like myself write it down finding that the pages of scroll or volume holds this power for them at arms length. The path of the Wizard does not limit. There is no divinity impeding study. There is simply man and his quest for knowledge. Man and his quest to learn more about power. To harness it. For man. To me the Ruby Prince, may his name be honored has done much to earn my respect. He has united Osirion as once again a place of enlightenment and understanding. It was his study of the unknown that has weakened him, we all risk such a fate when we try to understand that which we do not know. That is all he needs to do to earn my respect. Yet at the end of the day it will be Man that brings our Ruby Prince back to full vigor. For if the Gods were all powerful, then he would be full of vigor now. |
