We've both been playing. Even on beginner/Easy it can get a might frustrating for us uncoordinated old folk, but it is actually pretty fun. I'm having the old Sid Meier's' Civilization "one more turn won't hurt" problem, though.

I want to say something mean and pretend it is an attempt at funny, but I can't come up with anything funny enough to use . . ..

I don't play ball for a couple of reasons. No, I never developed any skills of note (that's a reason), but that was because I just can't see the ball well enough. Never could. If you can't tell where the small, fast-moving object heading in your general direction really is, you learn to just get out of the way. Not a good way to play ball.

Sorry your toe got mashed that bad.

Our opinions only matter so much. If Jack's not into continuing, we're done. It could take a while, but his enthusiasm and enjoyment are mandatory for the game to succeed.

Kinda fatalistic reading back over that, but, at the end of the day, Jack's the only one of us that can't be "easily" replaced.

I am 3ish hours East of home, with my 27 year old daughter in a neurological ICU.

She is supposed to be in observation for 24~48 hours. Beennworking this issue since 0500 local this morning. I make no promises about posting on my phone through this.

I have a roughly 80 person team.

We've had 1 lose his mother, 1 lose his brother, 1 go into the hospital for tumor removal, and 2 whose spouses were injured badly enough they missed work not just with their spouse in the emergency room, but caring for them afterwards. All that happened in like a week.

Life WILL kick you in the knee and run off, again. It just will.

Rab moves forward, reaching Grond and leaning into the cave wall for some cover before loosing another shaft at the smuggler before them.

Note above says 7 is down hard, though the map doesn't show it. Based on the note, I guess I'm trying to hit 8, who I see has some cover.

Venomous can be really scary.

Infected should be mostly annoying. Inconvenient? Yeah, but mostly annoying.

He has been getting his ass kicked. If the group hadn't fallen so far behind him, it might not be as bad, but you've been out there in the wind, basically by yourself, for far too long at this point.

The ranged guy shouldn't be in front of everyone else, but we've both been trying to keep the pressure on the bad guys, to reduce their time to set up and make things worse. Everybody else got tangled up in the stairwell, and lost ground. <shrug>

Several articles in the news right now about the cause of Texas' power problems simply being the power generation tools were all built WITHOUT the cold protection add-ons automatically used when building further North.

The problem isn't with the power lines and distribution. The problem isn't with a huge spike in demand. The problem is that wind turbines are freezing, the water cooling systems for coal and gas plants are freezing, forcing plants to go offline, etc.

Well, this old Scouting family has been taking stock. We have a gas range and matches. Lots of battery lights if we really need them. Plenty of warm clothing, sleeping bags, etc. Some small trees in the backyard and the saws to convert them into firewood if we need it. No fireplace, though, so we'll have to set up a shelter in the backyard designed to warm from the fire. Not that hard to do, either.

I hear people talking about how the food in their fridge is too warm. "Put it outside in the cold" seems like a completely foreign idea to them.

We're not afraid of having to rough it for a few days, though I would miss my electronic entertainment. So many of my neighbors are absolutely panicked, though.

My Mother-in-Law is North of Dallas off of I75. They've been without power for a while. This morning, she said their house was down to 48 degrees inside. THEM I'm worried about. Pair of people over 70 without the tools on hand and apparently unwilling to go elsewhere.

Nah. So far I'm good. My neighborhood has lots and lots of solar panels in it, which is probably helping. We haven't been in the house long enough to have the electric bill history yet, or we would have them, too, honestly.

Last time I looked, we weren't to my action, yet, anyway.

If you have Precise Shot, you don't pay the -4 for ranged into melee. There should absolutely be some cover bonuses to AC, though.

The olf double moves down the stairs, ready to engage now that he has a much better line of sight.

Don't think I'm going to give you QUITE what you want. 20' of movement is just onto the landing for me, and that's my move action.

Rab scoots down the stairs, wondering if he will see targets when he gets to the landing or not. Since he does, he stops long enough to snap a shot at the closer enemy, as much to keep them moving as to do any immediate harm.

Avoiding most of this, I will simply add that knowing there were enemies around the corner and that he was turning the corner to look for them leaves me flabbergasted that he would be surprised to find them.

Historically, I'm good with the vast majority of your situational calls, Jack, but this one doesn't fit that mold.

With the bodies piling up, and his companions adjusted so that he can move through, Rab scoots down the stairs, past the injured half-orc, finding he has a really good line of sight to one more on the landing where it looks like the stairs turn . . ..

But a double move down the stairs is still a full-round action, so I can't do anything about the clear shot.

Well, technically, every single body between me and the target provides some cover. That's why the one trait allowing you to ignore cover when provided by EXACTLY one individual can be so important. But there's 3 allies between me and the closest target. The restrictive angle of the stairwell and reduced visibility through it caused by the landing also provides some cover. The stairwell itself shouldn't provide cover between two people both on it, but the landing "fixes" that. Does that help?

I try to include everything in the line so it is as clear as I can make it. I identified the primary target was #1, with rollover to S if appropriate "@ 1" and "@ 1 or rolling over to S". I listed the modifiers which are applied against the roll, stating cover in the position corresponding to the -4 (provided by the walls and ceiling in the staircase). I even noted that I wasn't including PBS, though I didn't detail it was because of the elevation differences, as if the map was flat, 1 is w/i 30'. I really do try to make it as easy as possible.

Oh, and I did cut'n'paste the roll text and then modify it, but I also cut'n'paste the damage text. That doesn't automatically result in duplicated results. I was just noting the coincidence, much the same as we tend to do with physical dice.

Given the likelihood of knocking someone over if Rab tries to push past the leading ladies, he'll stay put and try to stay up against the wall as much as possible to let others by if they wish. Archery tends to put the narrow body silhouette in the right direction to make it easier for others to go by.

Not sure about your alternate HP rules, but, core rules, when current HP is equal to or less than the amount of n ok nlethal.damage currently being suffered, you pass out.

That's why Grond asked, and why I thought my arrow could be such a big deal for Grond at the moment.

Okay, I'm confused. My post had an If/Then/Else built into it. If there was no line of sight, then I checked the caltrops, else I shot at the figures. If they could shoot at me, then I had a line of sight and the ELSE leg should have been used, yes?

The game engine bonus for higher ground is tied to melee. <shrug>

Or at least it used to be. I freely admit I haven't dug into the bowels of differences between 3.5 and Pathfinder 1.

I don't think you're wrong, no.

But he also offers up more protection for the melee guys (DR from the shield?). Whether those balance out is a debatable point I have no interest in arguing.

This encounter, with restricted space, poor lighting, hard corners (real or undetected illusion), and a prepared enemy isn't going to work out well for ranged attacks at all. Once we get past the line of sight from the stairs, unless the tunnel goes straight (why should it?) I'm going to lose the ability to do anything without closing first.

As his step was enough to cause the door to open, Rab glances down at his foot, then back at the door. Then he turns to the others scattered about the room, raising both hands in front of him, palms towards each other, indicating the door, while a goofy grin spreads across his face.

I didn't. I just commented about starting to push on the stones.

"Well, most people are right handed, so they would probably put the switch on the right somewhere . . .." The olf keeps running his hands over the stones outside of where he thinks the door is. Some stones get jiggled, others get pushed, a few get tugged, adn this keeps up as he continues trying what he can see. "One of these should push, or shift, or pull, or something, right?"

Since the group has been tossed together by chance, there's no hierarchy to define leadership. We had been working on he premise that whom ever's schtick was at hand would take the lead, because it worked really well.

Losing the character dedicated to ferreting out secrets and not having anyone cover specifically that role has led to the collapse of letting the expert take the lead.

When we were in the building the first time, the rogue took charge. When we were tracking goblins through the wilderness, the ranger took charge. When we were interacting with most of the town, the whaler took charge. When we were dealing with the constabulary, the relative took charge.

That process fails when two points collide:

1) Nobody is the expert in the topic at hand
2) Nobody consults anyone else, but everyone scatters based on their own current focus with no communication

Frowning yet again, Rab lightly taps the door, then traces it on the wall. Then he pretends he's grabbing a doorknob and twisting it, before pointing at the door and shrugging.

Then he starts prodding the stones to the right side of the door, seeing if any give at all.

"Burning things down is so . . . human. Nature will reclaim this house soon enough without the destruction."
