Quinlan nods at the exigency of needing to move on, though he regrets not being able to take a prisoner and question him... much could be learned about what they might find in other rooms... Varor, I know I counseled toward taking a prisoner and questioning him, but the others are right, we don't have time right now... best leave him here and let him pass... if we need a prisoner, we'll try to take one later. We're running out of time."
Quinlan quickly checks the secret door for traps while the others listen for the voices and ready to move on.
perc:1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30
Whatever he learns, he passes on to the others rapidly, but rescuing prisoners of the cultists seems more important than even a secret passage or cache right now.
Quinlan steps into the room behind the front liners... He's a bit confused by the enemy's demeanor... the fellow seemed more frightened than enraged, and might be willing to talk if captured... but when he sees the party lay into the man with such lethal effect, he loses much hope of taking him alive... still, he steps forward and switches from his bow to his rapier... he makes no attack though, having spent his round changing weapons...
Hi... sorry for my absence... I suffered a severe back injury about 2 weeks ago.. I am just now out of bed for the first time since... Going to try to catch up and get back into things now that I can sit at a computer again... thanks for your patience.
Quinlan just shrugs.. not a big deal either way, just wanted to give options... he moves along with the rest, but when he sees Zamanda hang back a moment, he pauses long enough so that she isn't left alone long enough to be ambushed or surprised by anything...
"There's also the possibility that anything found here might help us further in... not saying we SHOULD delay to dig out a few items, just throwing out the idea for consideration at least."

Sorry for my absence the last few week or so... Holidays and guests and family stuff, and seasonal depression have taken their toll... will be slowly catching up on all my games today...
"Aye, Kalem... I had the same worry... Ladies, we owe you our lives... you saved us all.. you and the good priest Cyric here. Thank you for your amazing skill and good fortune. However Bash is right, we don't have time to rest I fear... they will be preparing for us."
Quin shakes off his condition... and comes out of the foggy state he was in, surprised to see one of the creatures still up and fighting... Not having anything that will do much to it, he starts by calling out encouragement to Kalem as he tries to move forward... "You can strike it down with a well-placed blow, Kalem... You can do this!"
sorry if I'm slow posting the last few days and the next few as well... We are suffering from high winds and surrounded by fires in all directions. Constant power outages from the winds and service outages from both power problems and the fires are playing hell with my connection. I will post as I can, but please bot me if necessary.. thanks.
Quin hurries to find his friends again, running alongside Varor... and gives Cyric short answers between breaths to keep his stamina up. "Niece of a friend was taken and sold to these cultists... we have been tracking them for some time...finally found them here... hoping the young lady is still alive and unharmed. Hurry.. have to find her and soon."
"Thank you for the healing!" he turns to the one joining them, and nods, saying sagely. "You are brave and forward thinking... I'm sure Your goddess will look with approval on your actions today, protecting her demesne." With that, he heads back toward the Urgathoan lair to meet back up with the party.
"Thank you... can we perhaps get a little healing from someone not going with us, before we leave? It would be much appreciated. My friend here is in great need of your aid."
"Aye, we came here in search of a missing person... our investigations brought us here on the trail of these Urgathoans. Once we confirmed their actual presence here and the extent of their infiltration, we decided we needed some help and came here to you. We thought you'd be inclined to want them gone. In accordance with our mutual goals, perhaps you can render some assistance. We need a source of healing, my friend VAror here is badly wounded, and some of our friends left behind to watch the cultists are in need as well. We are not wealthy but we are willing to pay what we can for your aid, however since our goals coincide, perhaps you will be willing to provide some pro bono healing and perhaps even bolster our numbers with your own. If that requires that we speak with your superiors, please summon who you must so we can explain again and return to our friends quickly."
Quinlan shrugs... "I hate the idea of leaving you here, while I go with Varor... I'd much prefer to stay." He reaches out a hand and gently touches Kalem on the arm, and then running his hand down to Kalem's, squeezing it tightly. "If I go, I need your vow that you won't do anything silly and get yourself killed." He looks quite serious as he gazes deeply into Kalem's eyes... and then glances at the rest of the party as if suddenly aware they are there. "That applies to all of you... No dying while we're gone... don't be foolish heroes... wait for us."
He turns to Varor and smiles. "I guess I'm your bodyguard... or you're mine... however it works, we've got a mission.. let's go get you a holy symbol and perhaps some backup, eh?"
sorry for my absence... last 2 days have been hell, and I've fallen behind in several games... gonna try to catch up tonight because tomorrow is another day from hell coming.
Seeing that some are bleeding and others are not, Quinlan pulls out a potion of cure light wounds and bends down to assist Zamanda first, as he knows bards can heal and use wands... "Come on lass, snap out of it."
clw:1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
we're out of rounds now I assume, as his actions (taking out potion, moving and administering potion) will take more than one round. Also, these actions are predicated on the fact that Varor is still conscious as well, and can also heal... if Varor is down, he'd be giving the potion to the cleric instead.
Quinlan steps back and spits goo at the remaining owlbear.
adhesive spittle dc 14 reflex, partial:
Once during this spell’s duration, you can spit a viscous liquid as a standard action. This liquid functions as a tanglefoot bag, except you do not have to make a successful attack roll to hit your target. The DCs to counteract this adhesive (to avoid being stuck to the floor, to fly, to break the adhesive, or to cast a spell) use the spell’s DC rather than a tanglefoot bag’s normal DCs. The adhesive persists for 2d4 rounds after you spit it.
Quinlan moves forward to the edge of the stairs and looks at his own rather inadequate weapons for the task at hand. He drinks an extract of adhesive spittle.
don't see a map for this, so I assume we're doing theatre of the mind for now, let me know if i'm wrong
Quinlan walks down the passageway, wincing at the smell while his eyes water from the reek. "Smells like death in here." he says quietly to whoever is near him.
Quinlan looks at Varor for a long moment, then shakes his head as if dispelling unwelcome thoughts. "This is what we came for... to find these cultists, rescue Ilsa's niece if we can, and put a stop to their operation here if we can. To run would be counter to everything we've been working toward, not to mention the height of cowardice."
He turns and examines the trap door, looking for any sign of traps on it.
perception:1d20 + 11 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 11 + (2) = 15
If he spots anything or anyone else does and points it out to him, he'll try to disable the trap.
Just got home from the vet. Had to say goodbye to a dear companion kitty today. I'm a wreck and may or may not post later. Tomorrow morning I leave on a 4 day retreat, so my posting may be spotty if at all during those four days. Please bot me as necessary... sorry and thanks.
Mine wasn't bad in puberty... it was late teens that got dicey... he got into a WOW addiction that almost destroyed his chances at college... so glad he got past that. We had to take away his credit cards and limit his internet access for almost 2 years. We survived it all though... Now he's got his BA, married, working, and while still gaming, he knows his limits and is much more responsible. They do grow up... eventually.
yeah, the continuous logouts have been annoying, as have the general outages.
Sorry about your little one, Snowheart... been there done that... mine is 31 ... almost 32, so I don't have those worries anymore, but I recall them in vivid detail.
Quinlan has a moment of self-satisfaction... They're not as observant as they thought, they can miscalculate, they're fallible... good to know. He struggles to maintain a placid expression, rather than the smirk he feels inclined to express.
knowing Varor has limited posting opportunities, I was just gonna wait for him, but if you're calling us both out, I guess I'll come.
Quinlan steps out of the shadows where he was hiding about 40-50' away. He strides forward boldly once he's in the open, moving to stand to Kalem's side, and slightly behind him, obviously in the position of being a bodyguard or follower, rather than an equal. At least for now.
Ilsa, Zamanda said she'd be on a rooftop, so I suggested we should try it... no problem if you don't want to... He'll just take 20 on stealth from about 40-60' away.
sorry for my absence... been away all day so I missed a lot - Quinlan would happily kick in his share for the scrolls
Quinlan will suggest to Ilsa: "We could pose as a couple out for a stroll, maybe pretend to sequester in an alcove and make out, while keeping a watch... We'd be able to be fairly close without hovering... maybe just 20 to 60 feet away? Just a thought... if you're not interested, that's fine too. but being on the ground will give us easier and faster access to Kalem than being on a rooftop.. should he need our help that is."
take 20 on stealth to hide in plain sight:20 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ 20 + 3 + (1) = 24 plus 8 for bluff? +bonus for distance as well.
"Maybe we can combine the plans... have Kalem carry something we can track with locate object and try to infiltrate them, so we can find them through him."
"That could work... I know there are magical ways to track things... but do we have time to set up such a ruse? I'll be no one has that spell today.... what is it... 'find item?' or something."
know arcane:1d20 + 8 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 8 + (1) = 17i'm hoping that's enough to know what a 'locate object' spell is...
"Locate Object! that's the spell.. anyway.. what do you all think of Kalem's plan?"
"I guess I understand that a bit, Kalem. There were times in my life when I would have felt uncomfortable in Croft's presence. But those times are behind me... and you... Time to let it go, and loosen up a bit... she may be commander of the guard, but she's still just a person. I'm sure she understands the need for a little levity from time to time."
When Pel mentions having a better plan for the upcoming meeting, he nods. "I missed the chase on the rooftops, so I don't really know how it all went down up there. The details are a tale for another day I guess... but I agree, a plan would be a good thing. But plans don't always go as expected. There are other folks involved and we can't predict every reaction. So that said, let's get there early, check out the area and make a plan. Since they set the time and location, we have to assume they already have a plan of their own."
After the exchanges, he nods a farewell to Cressida and follows Kalem out of the room... puts an arm over his shoulder in a companionable fashion. "Everything okay, Kalem? You seemed a little uncomfortable back there. I hope nothing I said upset you. But if it did, I hope you'll tell me. Distressing you is the last thing I wished to do when we were talking in Croft's office - or anytime, really."
