Nona stands, drawing her dagger. Then she casts Detect Magic, and begins to look for the source of the darkness at the center of the room. "I'm going in to see if I can find the thing the darkness is cast on, or feel around for it at least and move it." Once the spell is cast, she steps up to the edge of the darkness, being careful not to step on anything sharp.

I think Katzu moved only ten feet last turn. I thought that meant he would not risk further damage from the knives etc. Or did he move 15? I thought he was 2 squares west and 1 square north of his present position.

The opportunity to identify it with Knowledge (Arcana) was in this post: Post 195. The post does not describe the creature, only mentioning that we hear various things. I'm not clear if that means we did not get a clear look at it or what.

Her spell stops the bleeding but not much else. She turns to the others. "That's all I can do for him today. Can someone else help?" It is the first time her eidolon has been so badly injured and her eyes are brimming with tears, even though she knows he cannot die as such.

Might want to wait to see what the poison does and how long it takes for him to recover from the poison before applying any healing. If the damage is too severe, Nona will dismiss him and make do with summoned monsters for the duration of the day and work on getting him back to full hit points when she has the resources. The rules say that if an eidolon dies, it is sent back to its home plane. If the eidolon is sent back to its home plane due to death, it cannot be summoned again until the following day. If the eidolon was slain, the next time it is summoned, it returns with half its normal hit points. The rules don't indicate whether damage to ability points remains or returns to half normal or what. I'll check forums to see if this has been clarified.

Katzu keeps a vigilant pair of (button) eyes on the cleft in the natural rock for anything that might attack. If nothing comes out, he trails Nona, glancing back at intervals to be sure nothing is following. Once potential danger is well behind them, he will advance past her and lead her into new areas.

When Searlas identifies it as a leshy, Nona says, "Talking to plants. That's a new one to me. I don't know much about that kind of stuff. If you've got a question about how this place was constructed, I'd have an opinion. Plants and animals are a mystery to me. You guys can do the talking."

That's reasonable. Thanks. So in the tunnels, one would have to jump a diagonal of 15 feet and get 15 feet of movement to count as a running start.

Between her low strength and dexterity and her ACP, Nona will need help to get across, as she is -4 to both swim and acrobatics. I'll check what Katzu's encumbrance would be if he carried her, as he has better numbers for both skills.

My work schedule has me working sometimes in the morning and sometimes in the evening in five week stretches. Usually it shifts every five weeks. At present I'm continuing to work mornings, which should continue until mid-July. I work Monday through Thursday. So I will try to check and post before I go to work, around 5-6 AM (Eastern US time). But I can usually post by 3 PM and check in the evening as well. I can usually post through the weekend, as I only go out of town about once a month for occasional camping or trips.

I'm curious how you would run the jumping rules in this case. If you run north on one side of the water, would that count as a running jump to the other side? Or does the direction jumped have to be in the same direction as movement just before?

If it does count, could you jump horizontally for 5 feet or would you have to jump diagonally for a 15 foot distance?

Before descending into the sewers, Nona snapped her fingers as she said "lux spatark". A glowing light formed at the spot she snapped her fingers. She raised her morningstar so the head passed into the glowing region and the weapon became a light source. After ten minutes holding the morning star in one hand and Nona decided when the spell ran out, she would recast it on her hat.

Nona takes possession of the notes if no one else has already. She studies the contents to make sure she can read the handwriting and recognize the words. She was hoping for a map with an "x" on it marking "the spot," the spot with the treasure, that is. A treasure hunt should have a map with an x on it, she concludes, no matter what her professor says about such things being the sole province of overactive imaginations of bards.

Once she's clear on the directions, she nods to the Venture-Captain and Sascha. "Shall ve look fur you here, vhen ve're back mit the locket?"

Once that detail is ironed out, she memorizes the directions and then tucks the notes in her book and packs it away in her pack. The title of the book is Moats, Bridges, and Tunnels of Ancient Azlant. Then she gestures for Katzu to follow her and she exits to meet up with those who have already exited.

"If were in sewers, we'll need light. I have the light cantrip and Katzu can see in the dark. He and I can communicate mentally, so if we need someone to scout ahead without bringing light into an area, he can do it and I can relay what he tells me he sees."

Knowledge(Engineering): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Nona perks up when sewers are mentioned. "Considering how old Korvosa is, it would not surprise me to find a variety of structures down below street level. Best be on our toes." Her pronunciation betrays an accent from Ustalav. W's sound like V's, V's like F's, and trailing S's border on Z's.

Nona asks a number of questions of Sascha:

"How long has it been since you were there?"

"And does anyone else know about this place?"

"Any chance the Hellknights are looking for the same thing you are?"

Once the briefing is over, Nona says, "Sounds like the kind of place my Katzu would like to see. He will be better at wrestling alligators than I." She sits down, pulls her stuffed tiger from her pouch, hugs it to her chest, closes her eyes and concentrates, mouthing wordless prayers until, a minute later, the stuffed animal disappears and an impressive looking outsider appears as if summoned.

Katzu looks like a brawny humanoid but he has a tiger's head, claws at the end of his hands, and black and orange tiger stripes. One might even mistake him for a catfolk, but for his fur, which is of the faux variety found on the stuffed tiger toy and his eyes, apparently mere buttons with a Minkai stylized butterfly symbol on each. He has some minor pieces of armor in the lurid style of Minkai samurai, but they look more symbolic than functional.

Nona gives her eidolon a hug and introduces him to all the others. The same butterfly symbol can now be seen on her forehead. "This is Katzu, my guardian and friend." She points to each person and states his or her name for Katzu. The beefy agathion towered over the petite Nona, over six feet all. He says nothing and stands waiting for the group to move out. His expression is hard to read but he seems to be scowling.

Image of Katzu. At present, he doesn't have a sword, but I hope to add a katana once I've got the build points for it.

Yes. Coming up.

A short teenaged young woman enters quietly and stands back a bit from those already mingling, looking everything over and not speaking to anyone until spoken to. She has red hair, green eyes, and a pale Ulfen complexion, with a few freckles. If she put any effort into looking attractive, she could be beautiful, but without make-up or any jewelry or fetching apparel, she looks rather plain and average. She wears work-a-day studded leather armor, with a heavy wooden shield slung over her backpack. She carries a few simple weapons, a morningstar, a dagger, and a set of javelins. Under her arm is a book and on her belt are a couple of pouches. Poking out of one of the larger pouches is the head of a toy stuffed tiger. It looks well worn with button eyes. The weapons and armor weigh her down and make her look awkward. No one would look at her and think she was a warrior or even a rogue.

As new people come in, she nods in acknowledgement as they say their names, but says little on her own unless asked. She studies everyone cautiously, but with an intelligent, calculating gaze. When asked her name, she replies, "I am Nona Petron. This is Katzu," she adds, patting the toy tiger on the head.

During a lull in the conversation, she draws from a pouch a deck of Harrow cards, shuffles them carefully, cuts the deck and then draws a single card.

Harrow Card: 1d54 ⇒ 28: The Hidden Truth. Suit = Intelligence. Alignment = LG.

She studies the card, smiling slightly, places the card to her forehead for a few moments, and then returns it to the deck.

This determines the benefit from her Harrowed feat, which grants her a +2 bonus on one roll modified by the suit of the card, in this case intelligence. Each day she draws a new card. See Nona's profile for a spoiler with the list of cards associated with the 1d54 roll to determine the card. There is a document at the bottom of that spoiler with images. And for the record, the player owns a deck to make it legal for the character to use Harrowed feats and traits.

Thank you for serving as GM.

Will Nona's eildolon get a separate initiative roll or will he go with Nona's roll? His is +1, hers is -1.

Let us know if you have a particular format for the information in the character's header slots. I'll be adding my basic stats there momentarily.

Dot.

Nona has been updated to be a 1st level Summoner unchained. I've also got a witch I could play if it would help with the balance of the party. Looking forward to a great adventure.

To get around the problem of people being unable to update Google drawing from their phones, I added a marker square that forms the origin of a coordinate axis system so that each square can be referred to by a pair of coordinates. It sounds complicated but it works well enough once people understand how it works.

So that leaves 5 players who didn't make the table right? I've already played Veteran's Vault before, but if someone can show me the ropes on how to run PBP on the Paizo forum (I usually run on Myth-Weavers), I might be able to run a second table to pick up the players that were left off.

There are several general purpose guides to GMing on Paizo messageboards here. This one covers a broad range of topics, including how to set up the thread.

If you mainly need to know the nuts and bolts of how to get a thread started, look at the "2.1 Creating the World" for what to do first as GM and what the players do.

Post something back here once you've set up the thread and make the invite, plus maybe send a private message (PM) to make sure the prospective players you want to join are aware of your offer.

I'm not sure what, if anything, you have to do to make the game an official PFS game, but at a minimum, you'll have to have the chronicle sheets to give out, usually via e-mail or posting on something like Google Docs. I think the PFS GM has to report the results in some official way so appropriate updates can be made. I've never done any of that, but obviously lots of other posters to this thread have.

Most games I've played and my own PBP campaign use a shared document on something like Google Docs for things like maps and handouts. If you create a new Google drawing, you can then paste the map and individual tokens for the PCs, NPCs, and other props. You can then post a link that players can click to open the doc and anyone can move things around to indicate where his/her character moves. Just be sure the option is checked that gives people who click on the link permission to edit.

Anything else you need to know?

Nona has been modified to the requirements of Unchained Summoner. I also have a witch with just 1 XP I could play if the group could use more arcane coverage.

An attractive redhead walks up to offer her name to the Taldan recruiting for the Heidmarch lodge. She is not particularly well-armed or armored (studded leather, with a club and sling), but after talking with the recruiter, she points to a table and gestures. A strange humanoid figure walks over carrying some spears. As he clears the smokey center of the room and approaches, he can be seen to have the face of a tiger, with strong arms and legs, claws, and Minkai armor. But once he is close enough to be seen properly, the recruiter sees he has fur that appears to be the same as is often used to simulate fur in stuffed animals given to children. Indeed, the creature's face has buttons for eyes, each with an ornate stylized Minkai butterfly embossed. The same emblem appeared in a larger disk on the creature's breastplate and then the recruiter noticed what he had assumed was a tattoo on the woman's forehead was really the same emblem which seemed to be magically embedded in her forehead.

"Hy am Nona Petran. Diz iz Katzu, my h'eidolon. Ver Hy go, he goz." She speaks with a distinct Ustalav accent.

The recruiter places her name on the list and adds a "+1" note. As she returns with her eidolon and pulls out a Harrow deck to play Harrow solitaire at the table, the recruiter notes how young she looks, but the eidolon had an air of something ancient.

I have not played this character yet. I may see if there is anything from Summoner unchained I can incorporate before she plays.
