Searlas nods towards Ser. "We certainly will be ready... What a despicable array of tools... There is no place for such equipment in a civilized world."
He makes a smirk and motions towards the manacles, turning to Rilia. "Well, I guess Calistria might approve of those for..."
Searlas' tasteless quip gets interrupted by the sound of the crossbow bolt.
"Gah! Ok... wasn't ready..."
5-foot move.
"Calistria does indeed." Rilia says putting a delicate hand upon Searlas's shoulder. She smiles.
Future shopping list: masterwork manacles, bit and bridle for a Medium-sized creature, grappler's grease.
Double move actions: Stow rapier, draw bow.

"Just a scratch."
With an infinitely heavy expression on his face he slowly goes forward, on the move pulling out his big sword.
"And now I'll try to scratch you. Let's see who'll feel worse."
Move action, half speed.

Do the iron maidens at the south of the room block line of sight? Also, do you have a Bill & Ted moment every time you type the name of said torture device?

![]() |

Searlas recoils a bit at Rilia's comment. "No amount of drink would have me submit to that..."
He pushes into the room, and moves around the edge until he can see past the darkness.
"...the test of the Starstone on the other hand... ah... there you are you nasty little tricksters!"
Readied action: As soon as one of the Jinkins pops out from their hiding spots, cast Murderous Commmand (DC 16 will save) on it.

Searlas moves into the room. He steps on some stuff that is scattered about the floor, but none of it seems to hurt him.
No jinkin has yet popped out to trigger Searlas' spell.
Round 1 -- M'boka, Nona, Katzu and Searlas are up
Searlas (Readied)
Imini
M'boka, Nona, Katzu 4/6 hp, Willem
Paffuf, Mifra, Xarmigash
Kiddir 12/14 hp, Rilia

Katzu Eidolon |

Katzu peers into the darkness and decides to go after the flying creature. He risks the sharp implements on the floor to reach the table in the middle of the room and tries to bite the flying thing.
Bite Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Nona advances, readying a javelin. When she gets to the edge of the room, she can't see anything in the center of the room. So she begins to move slowly around the edge of the room.

M'boka steps forward and delivers the touch of divine energy to Ser Willem, hoping to give him guidance in the upcoming fight with the creatures now hiding in the darkness.
5ft step forward to deliver the charge of guidance I started in the surprise round.

![]() |

Ser Willem feels a sense of divine thought guiding his actions as he circles to the other side of the room, hoping to help corral the creatures into the center. He stays at the edge of the dark field, kicking sharp objects out of his way, watching for anything to come out and attack him.
Move (I'm thinking that's as far as I can go with the current terrain. 4 normal steps, 1 double cost step.), then Readied Attack to first creature that gets within striking range that's not his ally.

Katzu runs into the room, but manages to step on something sharp, forcing him to pull up short of his intended target. (Speed reduced by half for 24 hours or until treated with a DC 15 Heal check.)
Completing her spell, a creature appears somewhere in the darkness and lashes out a Kiddir, but it merely latches onto his armor for a moment before sliding off.

The jinkin then takes off and hides.

Unable to effectively defend himself due to the darkness, the creature wraps those tentacles around Kiddir's neck and begins to strangle the life out of him, causing him to nearly pass out.
Round 1/2 -- Everyone is up.
Kiddir 2/14 hp (grappled), Rilia, Searlas M'boka, Nona, Katzu 3/6 hp (caltrop wound, need Fort save vs disease), Willem
Mifra, Xarmigash (grappled), Fiendish Centipede

"Dammit, Kiddir? Choke louder so I can find you! Come on luck of Cayden..."
Searlas grits his teeth and moves at full speed in the direction of Kiddir's sounds.
"Ow... ow... guess I should have had a drink first." Heal: 1d20 ⇒ 13
Edit: I suppose I should have asked first... Did the room drop from normal to low light or low light to dark? If it's just low-light I can see fine and hit the Darkmantle either way, although I still want to move to help Kiddir.

The room itself had no natural light, only the light you brought with you, which is what the spell-like ability is suppressing.

Searlas steps on something, but it doesn't appear to injure him.
Daze? Before I roll a save, is there some reason why Searlas' daze spell affects creatures that aren't humanoid? The darkmantle is a magical beast.
Round 1/2 -- Everyone is up (except Searlas?).
Kiddir 2/14 hp (grappled), Rilia, Searlas M'boka, Nona, Katzu 3/6 hp (caltrop wound, need Fort save vs disease), Willem

With every attempt to wound the creature, it seemed to wriggle out of the way. Katzu growled deep in his throat in frustration, unable to help Kiddir.

Nona, unable to see through the magical darkness, hides behind one of the iron maidens, hoping to be able to ambush an enemy with her javelin if one comes into view.

M'boka rushes forward, following the example of those who had gone ahead of him and skirting along the edge of the strange darkness that seemed to radiate out and fill only part of the room.
"Some foul creature of the darkness has spread its stain in this place. Inheritor, guide my blade." M'boka's prayer ends as a flash of light emanates from his hand and a line a brilliant white flame courses along the edge of his weapon.
Move, followed by casting Sun Metal on my terbutje.

That's impressive! Thanks!
"You're nothing compared to me!" - wheezing the almost choked Kiddir. With great effort he begins to tear off his vile tentacles of a monster... and trying to grapple it himself!
Re-Grapple: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Rage, AC without penalty

![]() |

Not sure if it makes a difference with that roll, but your rage bonus, being surrounded bonus, and the inspire courage bonus should boost your grapple check as well since it does count as an attack. I have a game I run with 2 combat maneuver junkies... I've had to review that section of the CRB and that flowchart MANY times. Should put your total bonus at something like 1 (BAB) + 4 (Str) + 1 (Crowd Control) +1 (Inspire Courage) = +7. I somehow suspect that won't make a difference with th roll of 6, but figured you'd might like to know. Now I'll go yell at the trip monk and bonebreaker brawler in my Iron Gods group some more for making me read all that...

Ser Willem will continue to circle the area, awaiting something to come out of the darkness.
Half move around darkness, Ready to Attack any enemies that come out of the darkness.
"I can't see a thing in there! Can we do something about that darkness?"

According to the rules, being in darkness makes you effectively blind, but there is no rule that I could find that says being blind effectively makes everyone else invisible. I would probably rules that way in a home game, but this being PFS is different. Which means without the +2 that an invisible creature would get to their CMD, the total roll on Kiddir's grapple check of 13 is in fact sufficient.
Kiddir manages to pry the tentacles off the creature for the moment, but the creature tries to fight back.
Grapple: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
The creature manages to get its tentacles around the neck of Kiddir again and Kiddir slips into unconsciousness. The creature releases its grip to search for more prey.
The centipede tries to bite Katzu.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Damage: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
It manages only a scratch but Katzu is once again exposed to venom.
Meanwhile the jinkin moves quietly about the room.
Round 2/3 -- Everyone is up.
Kiddir -5/14 hp (dying, stabilization check required), Rilia, Searlas M'boka, Nona, Katzu 3/6 hp + 1 nonlethal (caltrop wound, diseased, Fort save vs poison required), Willem
Mifra, Fiendish Centipede, Xarmigash

"Katzu, Ser, to my voice, grab Kiddir and retreat. They'll be forced to come to us and leave their cover of darkness!"
Searlas makes a careful retreat from the cover of darkness.

Searlas' words make Willem realize that waiting out here is fast becoming folly, since something must have happened to Kiddir, he had to do something. Moving into the darkness, the emissary frantically searches for the fallen warrior and grabs him to start dragging him out.

Sorry for the delay. Busy weekend.
M'boka springs into action as he hears Kiddir's cries of pain. He moves around the edge of the shadow, then plunges into the darkness, his weapon glowing with the brilliance of sunlight. He pulls out his wand of cure light wounds and tosses it to Rilia.
"I think he'll be easier to move if he's on his feet..."

Katzu drags Kiddir into the light while saying, "The Jinkin is across the room from Kiddir against the far wall. M'Boka is being strangled. Heal me and I can move more quickly to get to his aid." On that note, M'boka, any particular sort of 'foul creature of darkness' or is that paladin for 'everyone who isn't one'? Yeah, I can't find any instance of Rilia seeing the darkmantle to trigger a knowledge roll and she failed the Jinkin one earlier.

Well, considering we can't see anything and darkness is centered on an object, if we fall back we make them come to us, or wait the 5 minutes for it to go away. Then the whole thing becomes quite simple. Barbarian smash, thing die. Also we are immune to sleep and can wake people up much easier than we can hit the things.

Many of the characters don't know any of that though and earthly octopuses are smart enough to carry objects around with them. Then there's the fact a few of us can't travel very fast because of caltrops or being unconscious (really, those are the only people you have to beat--and then only in a foot race).
"M'boka? Honestly man, stop playing around in there and answer me." I wonder were whatever-it-is is now?
