Interesting, I'm using Trevor the Yellow, almost the same concept as the one I used in Hollow's Last Hope run by Dorgar until he and his brother vanished.

Yes, please, Mister Crimmy, although if it's not too much trouble, could I get a cup of something warm? Cider perhaps, if you have any? Nikolae says.

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

'Though he lacks the priestcraft to say anything relevant, Nikolae has a strong back and takes up a shovel, while Vermiis idly paws at some dirt, but proves to be more of a hindrance than a help and ends up coiled up in the shadow of a tree.

A warm bath would definitely be welcome right now. We should probably make sure that the locals have checked the wells that any sign of the scourge has been purged.

Spoiler:
Trevor the Yellow wrote:

That's a nice detail!

The Exchange

Nikolae's hair is matted on the side of his head from sleeping with his head against the wall, but he doesn't seem to notice as he gets up and helps to distribute the vials of cure.

Are there any special instructions for application? Or do they just drink it straight away?

Vermiis pokes his head up, and sets it back down on his paws with a heavy sigh, recognizing that any sudden motion on his part could startle the many milling people. He settles in and watches the proceedings through slitted yellow eyes.

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Nikolae unbundles the bark, and, uh, whatever the other thing was, and hands them over to the apothecary. Hopefully, these components will help stave off the contagion.

Looking to the others, Should we remain here, and distribute the cure when she has completed her work? Nikolae looks dead on his feet. I could nap right here, in her doorway...

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Nikolae is relieved to see the town again, not merely for a chance to put an end to this sickness, but also to sleep under a roof again.

He had just arrived from off the road, and almost immediately dashed out on a trek through the forest, and the comforts of civilization were calling...

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Oh, we suck. :)

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Nikolae conjures a dolphin to assist as well, and not merely for Aaremeth's viewing pleasure.

Using his trait, he can keep it active for four minutes, so he'll do that. With Augment Summons, it will have +15 to it's Swim checks and Str 16 for helping others across.

The sleek grey-skinned creature seems as strong as a horse, despite it's compact size, and swims with impossible speed and agility, providing a stabilizing boost to anyone crossing along the rope.

Since it can take 10 on swim checks, it automatically succeeds at Aiding everyone.

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Oh dear, Nikolae mutters, seeing Trevor, even at 12 ft. tall, struggling with the stronger than expected current.

He waits a moment to see if he regains his balance before casting another spell...

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Looks like you're going in, so it's your turn. Nikolae says, beginning an incantation. You only have two minutes, get Quicksilver across first, if you can.

First casts Guidance, for +1 to Trevors next skill roll, save, attack roll, etc. in the next minute. Then casts enlarge person. Link to Enlarge Person effects .

Go, go, go!

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Eh, he's lucky I didn't call him Clip-Clop!

I'll only be able to enlarge a single person, who should assist Quicksilver across during the few minutes that spell will last. Nikolae says, And the rest of us could benefit from dolphin assist, if we don't locate a better place to ford across within a mile or so...

Can any of you local boys think of a better crossing point nearby, with your knowledge of the area?

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Looks like a crossing is our best bet, and I can conjure something to help us, although Noir is going to be a challenge...

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

I also have a casting of that magic available, and can increase Trevor's size as well. Nikolae adds, Although it only lasts a couple of minutes, so we'll have to make quick use of it.

Or I can conjure a swimming creature to assist as well. Something called a dolphin.

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Nikolae makes sure that the mushrooms are securely tucked away, although left with 'room to breath' so that they do not molder.

The sooner we get back, the better. he says, Should we travel through the night? I would rather arrive tired on the morning than hear the sad tales of those children and elders who bodies could not await our arrival.

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Nikolae and Vermiis edge out into the open room, warily eying the other wolves, and trying to get a peek at which way Greypelt is leading (luring?) Aaremeth.

Nikolae to C10, Vermiis to C9.

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Nikolae incants a familiar sounding spell, Loricatus arcanum and shimmering golden armor settles over Aaremeth.

Mage Armor, +4 AC for the next 2 hours.

He whispers to the alchemist as he does, "The wolf wishes to separate us, expect treachery."

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

This one, Nikolae says, handing Trevor the scroll. I am... self-taught, in the ways of the arcane, and could not hazard a guess what sort of magic it contains.

He doesn't sound thrilled to admit his lack of training in this area...

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

The tome itself appears valuable, particularly to a dwarven collector, but it also conceals a magical scroll of some sort. Nikolae relates to the others.

Lacking any obvious target, the celestial eagle lands on the old altar, and it and Vermiis regard each other warily, with Vermiis stalking round it curiously, and the eagle fluttering its wings and adjusting its position to never allow the Eidolon to get behind it, snapping its beak in a warning motion.

Moments later, the eagle raises its wings and head towards the heavens and dissolves into golden motes of light that soar upwards and out of sight.

The 'last' button sometimes doesn't take you to the last page, if there are only a couple of posts on it, which can be very annoying... I end up posting something, going back to look at it, and finding out that there's a couple posts I've never even seen, that make it look like I wasn't even reading!

Nikolae pokes at one of the squishy fallen creatures with his morningstar.

Where I grew up, on the coast, the wealthy would sometimes eat a delicacy named calimari, that resembled this, but smaller. They produced an inky cloud of darkness, but it was an actual liquid, that was used to make ink for writing. I thought they only lived in the ocean, and I'm pretty sure they couldn't fly...

He finally leaves the nasty looking corpse, and turns to examine the shrine, muttering an incantation as he does to open his eyes to the auras of magic.

detect magic, then a Perception roll 1d20 ⇒ 13

Vermiis remains intrigued by the concept, and leans a paw against one of the bodies, pushing on it with more and more force, trying to make it 'squirt out more darkness.'

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Ninja take no falling damage! And when they do, they're like cats, and make it look like they meant that to happen...

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

These Valesfolk with their oversized axes and elite skills are really starting to make Nikolae wonder what the hell kind of place he's stumbled into here... Is this Andoran or Cimmeria?

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Heh.

Round 2

Spoiler:
Nikolae readies his crossbow, but incants a spell instead of firing it, trilling the words Aquila Celestianis as his fingers contort into a painful-looking gesture.

An eagle with feathers that look like long, thin leaves, in a riot of autumnal yellow, orange and red, appears in mid-flight, as if it soared straight out of his space, coalescing into solidity in midair, next to the flying squid-creature that just abandoned it's attack on Aaremeth. Apparently unconcerned with the shadowy visibility, it attacks with a flurry of flapping wings, raking talons and snapping beak.

Celestial Eagle (augmented), full attack, attempting to Smite Evil, relying on darkvision to avoid penalties for the lighting
Bite attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Talon attack 1 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Talon attack 2 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5, +1 if target is evil
damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3, +1 if target is evil
damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4, +1 if target is evil

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Wow, Lueck made him bigger and Nikolae lubed him up. There's just no getting around that being the dirtiest combat round, ever.

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

So that's how Paladins roll. Turn out the lights and they start touching themselves...

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Round 1

Spoiler:

Taking advantage of his darkvision, Vermiis attempts to strike into the square with Aaremeth and his attacker, biting at the creature.

Bite attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

If Trevor remains grappled;
Nikolae incants a spell, coating Trevor's breastplate with bitter smelling black grease. Someone wearing greased armor or clothing gets a +10 bonus to Escape Artist checks or Combat Maneuver checks to escape grapples and to their CMD to avoid a grapple, lasts 20 rounds, unless canceled earlier

If Trevor is no longer grappled, but still conscious;
Nikolae incants a spell, giving Trevor the benefits of enlarge person for the next 20 rounds.

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Nikolae keeps his crossbow readied, and moves to follow Trevor, Vermiis at his side.

I think we've been using Aarameth's sunrod for a light source, and, like a ninny, I didn't bring one for this character...

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Nikolae whispers an incantation of guidance on first Harn (for climbing, if that's his plan) then Trevor (for door-bustin').

For a moment, like shimmering spider-threads connecting every thing to every other thing, the recipients can see everything tied together and things spinning into conjunction.

+1 to next attack, save, skill check or ability check within the next minute.

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Nikolae will heft the backpack and strap it to Quicksilver, if the mule is still at hand, and then bring his crossbow back to hand, to deal with any flying threat.

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Nikolae takes a moment to examine the bones next to the well, to see if there is any evidence of how the man died.

Perception 1d20 ⇒ 20

Wow! I rock!

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

These ruins seem to be crawling with predatory threats, between the wolves, spider, flying creatures and whatever you have seen, Trevor... I wonder what they all eat? Nikolae says, also having no idea what Trevor has seen.

Apart from over-curious adventurers... he frets.

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Nikolae waits downstairs, keeping his crossbow pointed at the ceiling, so as not to accidentally shoot an ally.

Upon Aaremeth's return, he heaves a sigh of relief. Alright, now we have to kill a couple of flying things?

Ember tilts his head and adds in Draconic,

Spoiler:

And wolfs, when they jump us.

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

We should check up top, the spider may have left behind a sac full of eggs or something equally terrifying...

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Round 2

Spoiler:
Nikolae steps back and to the side C 21 and aims his crossbow at the doorway, waiting to fire when the creature comes into view, hissing to Ember to Wait until it comes forth.

Both delay their actions;

When the spider reaches the doorway,

crossbow bolt 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
damage 1d8 ⇒ 5

Vermiis leaps forward, if there is room, to attack from any space not blocked by Harn (E 22, perhaps?).

Vermiis' bite 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Something to investigate after the spider, Vermiis spotted the bones of a dead man over by the well. Nikolae says in the common tongue.

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Nikolae readies his crossbow as they approach the tower.

Vermiis notes that Nikolae prefers speaking in Draconic to Thassilonian, for some unclear reason, and asks in the dragon's speech,

Spoiler:
We kill wolfs, right?

Nikolae replies in the same tongue,

Spoiler:
They will attack when we are weakened, as is their nature. Yes, we kill wolfs.

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Vermiis says softly in Thassilonian,

Spoiler:
Wolfs talk?

Nikolae replies in Draconic,

Spoiler:
No, not normally, and this one appears quite sinister, as well. I do not trust the look of it.

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

"Keep an eye out for the mushrooms," Nikolae mutters, more to Vermiis than the others.

Nikolae's Perception 1d20 ⇒ 1
Vermiis' Perception 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

"Ooh! Mushrooms!" Nikolae says, pointing at what is very obviously a clump of rotting wood.

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Nikolae hefts his morningstar as he nods, Let's do this, then.

Vermiis sniffs the ground as he moves forward, muttering to himself, Here, doggy, doggy.

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Vermiis looks up, black eyes piercing the darkness. Oh, sorry. Yes, there are wolves.

He didn't notice them, but he's not gonna let us know that!

He steps forward to stand near Harn and hisses ferociously, attempting to aid the others in intimidating the animals.

Aid Other intimidate (DC 10) 1d20 ⇒ 17

Nikolae just glares at his shadow-scaled companion as he readies his morningstar.

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Nikolae's Perception 1d20 ⇒ 14

Vermiis' Perception 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

An interesting parallel to the current ascension of a similarly humorless god associated with slavery in my homeland, perhaps. Nikolae muses.

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

"If something comes out of there at night, it might be safer to hole up inside a room, and barricade whatever door remains..." Nikolae says uncertainly, not entirely comfortable with this sleeping outdoors business.

Vermiis may or may not roll his eyes. It's hard to be sure.

Sorry, now I'm getting characters a little confused!

Well, hey, if the Paladin is cool with taking her stuff, Nikolae is all for it! :)

The Exchange

Perceptions
Nikolae 1d20 ⇒ 20
Vermiis 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Vermiis grumbles as they lie down to camp, "Another owlbear would be nice..." but Nikolae shushes him.

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

I believe we've come to the conclusion that she's a witch, faked her death and left behind a magical guardian, and that ripping her off could lead to death-by-testicular-implosion when she gets back. So, pretty much, leaving it, unless we find her gnarly corpse elsewhere and decide it's safe to come back and pillage her personal belongings later!

We'll make up a story to get Trevor to go along with it, in that case, like, 'We just need to bring these things back to town, for her family...'

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

As they move towards the ruins, Nikolae wait for Lueck to finish his brief tale before replying, "I was born in devil-Cheliax, but close enough to the border that a fair bit of smuggling went on, beyond the notice of the authorities. I do not find myself welcome there, for diverse reasons, and Andoran seemed the best nation in which to forget that dreadful place."

And the closest, he adds silently, hand trailing to the nape of Vermiis' neck.

Yellow eyes look up at him, and Vermiis' twitches his ears, like a horse whisking away a fly, until the hand is withdrawn.

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

Nikolae selects the jar, and brings it outside, to bundle securely with the bark taken from the great tree. If no one is specifically carrying these items, he will make sure to carry them personally, in case some mischance causes them to lose Quicksilver...

If no one is specifically carrying it, he'll tie the cloth-wrapped bark to his backpack, and keep it out of the sunlight, and wrap the jar in some scrap of cloth to keep it from justling or breaking and place it in his pack.

As Aaremeth peruses the missing witches belongings, he steps outside and asks Vermiis to look for signs of tracks, suggesting what may have happened to her. Given the elaborate ruse, and prepared defense, it seems that she left willingly, but did she leave in the company of others?

Vermiis Survival roll, no bonus for Scent, 'cause he just mysteriously lost it (and grew claws)! 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

The Exchange

Male Human Summoner 2

2nd level hit points 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Woot!

Vermiis gets mob hit points (5.5 / hit die).

Added enlarge person and read magic, as his new spells. Vermiis has lost scent and added claws and trip.
