Hakeem could be the boisterous type if he felt it was needed, but more often than not he preferred to hold his tongue and observe what was going on around him. Before speaking, the man wanted to be sure that what he had to say was an improvement on the silence. This could sometimes be confused for timidness, but Hakeem had it well within himself to be bold, when it was called for. Like a few of the other passengers aboard the Jeneviere, this was his first time aboard a vessel of it's size. He had been on river-going boats but the Jeneviere had an altogether different look and feel than those. In his days on the vessel he kept an eye to the Sea and Sky, beautiful signs of Gozreh's grace. He was a capable sort, and was willing to lend a hand when it was needed on deck. He had no training at sailing, but did alright at it through strength of intuition. Aerys Mavato:

Later, in the galley...
As they sat down for their supper, Hakeem found a seat beside Ishirou- and across from Kali'da Wedo. Squirrel Jack, as the boy was known, served up the watered-down soup as usual. Hunger pangs tightened across his broad abdomen as Hakeem stirred the contents of the mixture. " It hasn't killed me yet." he thought to himself as he began to eat spoonfuls of the soup along with the rest of the crew and passengers. Between looking at the bowl, he stole glances at Kali'da across from him. The Mwangi woman had caught his eye from the first time he saw her, but he looked at her altogether more respectfully than his friend Ishirou looked at Aerys. Eating, and thinking about the woman across from him, he was taken off guard as everything turned black, darkness falling upon the galley.
Similarly, Hakeem could potentially be reworked as a divine caster pretty easily! Still need to feature a little blurb or two regarding this guy's personality and appearance, just had a bit of a busy week GM Giuseppe

Prologue --------------- Hakeem was born on the plains surrounding Kalabuto twenty-four years ago to the Bas'o tribe. Raised communally by the matriarchal society on the Savannah, Hakeem was taught of their relatively peaceful ways of self-sustenance. His was a warrior culture, but only as a last-resort when threatened, challenged, or deeply insulted. They used simple weapons and their bare hands, wearing no armor into battle, preferring mobility to steel-skin. He was taught the basic skills in his youth that would aid him in surviving the Mwangi expanse in his later years, following the antelope herds through the plains. The young Zenj boy developed a deep respect for these creatures, and also the other dangerous jungle creatures that hunted the antelope. Particularly the Jaguar, whose fierce hunting techniques awed and inspired Hakeem. In his teenage years he was developing into a strong hunter and gatherer, true to his tribal upbringing. The next wrinkle in his story came when he befriended an old hermit and worshiper of Gozreh. This elder member of his tribe further refined the young Hakeem's practical skills in the natural world, as well as introduced a philosophical angle in quiet meditation and lessons on Gozreh's teachings from Hymns to the Winds and Waves which the old hermit orated from memory. A life of survival still demanded a fierce physical regiment, that Hakeem supplemented with the prayers, rules for personal behavior and the respect of nature that Gozreh taught. Through either divine intervention or sheer force of will, the self-taught 'monk' of the Mwangi expanse has developed techniques that allow him to channel the power of storms, and imbue his strikes with electricity. The technique is taxing on the young monk, and he seeks out adventure partially to grow in his connection to the Wind and the Waves. Hakeem bid his friends and family in the Bas'o tribe farewell, and embarked on a wandering pilgrimage into the wild. While on his journey , he passed through the town of Senghor for several days coinciding with the Jenivere's stay in port. During this time, Hakeem struck up a few conversations with Ishirou, the Tian man. The two related to each other's aloof(but not rude) personalities, and became fast friends easily. To offer gentle advice to his new, directionless friend, and to simply be on the sea; Hakeem had decided to board the Jenivere. ---------------
Regional Trait: Nomadic Hakeem hails from the nomad culture of the Bas'o tribe. Living in many areas in the foreboding Mwangi Expanse, Hakeem has learned well how to survive in the wild. Crunch largely completed, just have to transfer from sticky note to the profile here, disregard whats on there now, I promise to not be a lizardfolk in disguise haha. No time to delve into backstory tonight, far too tired for that. I have a lot of the concept in my mind though... Hermit-ish self-made monk, Gozreh/ Nature worshiper; eschews most arms and all armor. Intensely curious about Mwangi history and Mwangi ruins...I'll have to expand and refine this later. But I put a slight spin on the traits chosen, and that gives some hints at what I'm thinking. Traits! Spoiler: Campaign Trait: Mwangi Scholar The Mwangi Expanse is one of the richest regions in all of Golarion, and also one of the most mysterious. Despite its history of countless years and its fostering of nameless empires, very little is known of the Mwangi Expanse by outsiders or even Hakeem's fellow natives of the primeval, jungle-covered land. Hakeem is an exception, having long studied the region and its lore from within , he counts himself among a small handful of genuine experts throughout the Inner Sea. The Jenivere provides an ample opportunity, and the hermit Ibuk'o of the Bas'o tribe eagerly awaits a firsthand look at the deep jungles and cyclopean ruins of the Expanse's interior. He speaks Polyglot and receive a +1 trait bonus on all Knowledge
Race Trait: Adventurous Explorer Hakeem hails from the warrior culture of the Bas'o tribe. Living a nomadic life in the foreboding Mwangi Expanse, Hakeem has encountered frightening opponents and developed an ability to persevere even in the face of fear. When frightened or shaken, he only takes a -1 penalty on rolls instead of -2.
Hey there GM Giuseppe I'll be using this alias for my submission, but only the avatar and name are final as of yet. After some considerations I'm thinking about Monk for class, and Mwangi for ethnicity. Specifically the Bas'o tribe of the Zenj ethnic group. really running with this line from the player's guide -Page 7, regarding Monks- wrote: "Among the native peoples of the Mwangi interior, there are many cultures which forego armor and manufactured weapons, preferring the increased mobility and spontaneity unarmed combat allows as they face unsuspected threats in the dangerous land; a Mwangi monk may lack fangs and talons, but his natural weapons are no less effective than those of the jungle’s most ferocious beasts." Also had a question regarding the throwing-club the Zenj are known for, the Iwasa or Knobkerrie Are there rules out there for it/ under our restrictions? Most likely looking at "Mwangi Scholar" for campaign trait, with him having boarded the Jenivere probably at Bloodcove or Senghor in the Mwangi expanse EDIT: concerning the Knobkerrie, there is a this entry for it from Pathfinder Player Companion: Ranged Tactics Toolbox © 2014 So I suppose it's a no go, mechanically? No worries, if so he'll just carry around a decorated club and call it a Knobkerrie
I'm in one other pbp game that's been going a couple of weeks, but I've never experimented with PFS. I'll work on reading over the rules and see if I can put together a solid 1st level submission by October full disclosure though, me and my lady are about to have our first child in September. I'm anticipating being slightly overwhelmed, but I think I'll have time for a second game. If it's too much, I'll bow out before the game begins! |
