Hana is pleased with her work on her weapons and only to happy to move on the next day, jeers or no.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20

As the caravan arrives at the village she remains guarded, and she leans over to whisper to Dereje.

Dereje:
"Something about this does not sit right with me."

"... are there cannibals in these parts?"

To Athyra, Hana says, "I hope you are comforted in knowing, at least, what has become of them. Memories can hurt, but they can also be a comfort."

Hana seems put off by the cockfighting. "If you will. I need to do some work to maintain my weapons: The salt water is pernicious to the metal."

Hana finds a comfortable spot to sit and work on cleaning, tightening, and sharpening her various weapons.

Hana says, "Your help would be immensely useful, but... if you need time to mourn, you should not deny yourself that opportunity. What happened here is tragic and I am sorry for your loss. Work may help you put it behind you, but you may find it cropping up at unexpected times."

"We made it," says Hana to Athyra, looking comically disheveled. "The place was full of salt wights, but we dispatched them."

My favorite is subterranean dungeons in swamps, like the dungeons under the Moathouse in Temple of Elemental Evil. Should be completely underwater.

Hana's shoulders slump perceptibly.

"We made it," she says, half-unbelievingly.

Hana nods and strides up to regard the doors briefly before she pushes at them. The exertion causes her to pause and cough, then catch her breath.

"Why someone would use iron for doors in such a humid environment is a strange puzzle," she says. "Moreso that they have not rusted away to pitted nothing in the intervening years."

Once given some magical healing, Hana nods and manages to straighten her posture again. She brings her sword back to a guard position.

"Interesting. The miners found something long buried, it seems."

"At least we have ended this specific problem," says Hana. She pushes herself to her feet with a wince.

"I must admit that a panacea for my wounds would be helpful."

Cure serious would be appreciated.

"What is left? Is there more to see in this cave?"

"Unf," Hana says. She coughs and weakly sits up.

"I have... felt better."

Hana slams her sword down on the orb again, trying to shatter it. One of them will give out first. Probably her.

In a shocking display of resolve, Hana pushes through the pulsing waves of negative energy to bring her sword down upon the orb.

Hana lets out a heavy breath, her sword drooping. Then she raises it above her head and rushes the orb, slicing at it with her enchanted katana.

Not sure if I need to make any saves or take damage for rushing the orb?

Hana manages a perfect, desperate backhand slice that neatly cuts through the wight's throat. If it were a living creature, it would be spraying blood that makes a whistling sound from the jugular.

Hana continues to slow and tire as the wights reduce her to nothing. She manages one more slash.

Hana lands another dangerous slash on the wight.

Hana pivots and cuts again, hitting hard with the power of her hips, trying to finish off her previous target and reduce the amount of foes on the field.

My wife has decided to have family over in spite of the pandemic, so I'll be away through the weekend.

Hana's sword droops and for a moment she breathes heavily. Clearly this combat has taken more out of her than she would normally let on. After a few moments she glances back at her compatriots, straightens slowly, and smooths her facial expressions once more.

"Which way do you think we should proceed?" she asks. "Doubtless there will be more of these kinds of... problems."

I was waiting to see what happens when the wights get into melee.

Hana moves in behind the wight, letting it take the brunt of the frontal assault, but looking for a position from which she can strike if possible.

Moving along behind the controlled wight, but I'll move to melee if I can do so.

Hana draws her katana once more, and stands her ground - she doesn't want to risk using her bow and then having the wights drop down and charge her.

Hana clambers out of the pool, does the slo-mo supermodel hair shake, then pushes her hair back and squeezes out the excess water.

"I could not find the key," she says. "Let's carry on. I can't think of anything else to look for here."

"Can it be opened magically, perhaps?" asks Hana. "Otherwise we either have to break it open and risk damaging the contents, or carry it with us."

"For the moment I'm going to go under in the pool and see if I can find the key down there."

Hana wipes down her sword and replaces it in its scabbard. "Not much here. I wonder if those undead were the remnants of someone who died here."

"Have we any way to open this rusty strongbox?"

Hana steels herself for the wight's strike and makes a counterattack.

Katana damage, challenge: 1d8 + 4 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 5 = 10

AC is back up to 17.


INACTIVE - GAME DIED

Hana steps partway into the water - no great difficulty for her - and draws her katana in a flash. She lets out a terrifying kiai as the blade whips through the air with frightening speed.

Swift action: Challenge blue creature. 5' step, full round action: iaijitsu strike.

Iaijitsu strike: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Katana damage, challenge, iaijitsu strike: 1d8 + 4 + 5 + 3d6 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 5 + (2, 3, 1) = 19

This makes my AC 13 vs. blue and 15 vs. red, but I get DR 2/- against blue.

Since she can see in the dark, and can swim, Hana takes the risk of descending slightly into the water to head toward the alcove - though she keeps an eye out for anything that might try to swim up and bite her.

Hana stows her bow, then takes out her sword and examines it critically. She frowns.

"Such a vile, inglorious creature, and it has damaged my blade," she says unhappily. "I hope that this is not a repeat occurrence."

Once the ooze disintegrates, Hana is quick to approach Savras, but she lacks the medical skill to gauge his condition.

"I think he needs assistance quickly."
