"Yes, 33 gold monarchs for the gems. I hope this Ulman is able to help the townspeople. We are all lucky that Odo was able to hold the defenses together." Mistra's tone becomes questioning at the end of her statement, inviting the dwarf to comment but not pressing for information the craftsman might consider sensitive.

Mistra looks at the gem merchant, and then back to the gems. Insight Check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 Assuming that the insight check does not show any deception (whether because it is not there, or because Mistra did not perceive it). That would be acceptable, master Lapidary. Are they hoping the necromancy can revive the fallen? Mistra's questioning keep the focus on her; she has noticed Penance's attemps to stay in the background and is trying to do what she can to subtly assist.

Mistra smiles at the dwarf, doing her best to be charismatic with the dwarf. Yes, Master Lapidarist. I believe we were discussing the value of the gems we recovered in our travels. This is another of my companions. She gestures towards Penance, but it is a quick movement, designed to keep attention focused on herself. Mistra turns towards the counter, then pauses for a moment. Necromancer? While Mistra is not going to pass judgement, she is quite curious about how a necromancer could be involved.
Human Hexblade Warlock 1 | HP: 15/15 THP: 0 | AC 17 | INIT +4 (Adv) | P: +4 (Adv), PPerc: 19 | DV 120'
Mistra watches the bustle around the gate, then flexes her very un-spectacular muscles. Yep, not much I can do to help here. I'll go back to the finish our business with the gem merchant, as Valghaz suggests. Does anyone else want to come along? She is relieved that the gate held and the attack was rebuffed, but has the feeling this town might not be healthy to stay in longer than the minimum necessary - and getting those gems turned into something more useful would be a fine first step to getting out of here and on their way again!
Human Hexblade Warlock 1 | HP: 15/15 THP: 0 | AC 17 | INIT +4 (Adv) | P: +4 (Adv), PPerc: 19 | DV 120'
Mistra spins the staff widdershins, bringing it to rest in front of her and leaning on it. She catches her breath, looking around at the devastated gate and remains of the attacking force. Wow. That's an interesting experience. This happen often to you folk? Her question is not addressed to any specific creature; she's mostly just voicing out her reaction to the attack.
Human Hexblade Warlock 1 | HP: 15/15 THP: 0 | AC 17 | INIT +4 (Adv) | P: +4 (Adv), PPerc: 19 | DV 120'
Mistra laughs as she diverts the incoming spear. Now this is more like it! For the ferry! She yells the last as she attacks the gnolls in front of her; going for the closest to follow up the dazing thumps she'd just delivered. Attack Quarterstaff: 1d20 + 6 + 1d4 ⇒ (7) + 6 + (2) = 151d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Mistra reverses course, seeing the gnolls rush into the town. She moves down the rope she had previously ascended, and goes after the closest gnoll. Attack Quarterstaff: 1d20 + 6 + 1d4 ⇒ (9) + 6 + (4) = 191d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Human Hexblade Warlock 1 | HP: 15/15 THP: 0 | AC 17 | INIT +4 (Adv) | P: +4 (Adv), PPerc: 19 | DV 120'
Mistra targets the last gnoll on the ground, slamming her quarterstaff into it. Attack Quarterstaff: 1d20 + 6 + 1d4 ⇒ (11) + 6 + (1) = 181d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
After the very satisfying crunch of wood hitting flesh, Mistra turns her attention to the gnoll still standing on the wall. She throws herself into climbing the rope still hanging down from the top, determined to take the battle to the gnoll. I am assuming that (a) there is still a rope and (b) the palisade wall is less than 15' tall. Otherwise I'll have to to take two turns to finish the climb.
Human Hexblade Warlock 1 | HP: 15/15 THP: 0 | AC 17 | INIT +4 (Adv) | P: +4 (Adv), PPerc: 19 | DV 120'
Mistra reacts to the gnoll repelling down by attempting to give it a solid thwack with her quarterstaff. With two gnolls on the ground, she's starting to feel outnumbered! She redoubles her focus on attacking, believing the best defense is a good offense. Assuming the purple one rappels into Mistra's reach, that is. Also remembering to use the Bless from Valghaz this time! Reaction Attack vs Purple: 1d20 + 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (12) + (2) + 6 = 201d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Human Hexblade Warlock 1 | HP: 15/15 THP: 0 | AC 17 | INIT +4 (Adv) | P: +4 (Adv), PPerc: 19 | DV 120'
Oh. I hadn't realized the gnoll was on the wall. Mistra dodges to the side as the arrow flies by, and uses her momentum to swing around; she focuses on the gnoll whose bone cracked so loudly, determined to fend off this barbaric invasion. Attack Quarterstaff: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 201d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Human Hexblade Warlock 1 | HP: 15/15 THP: 0 | AC 17 | INIT +4 (Adv) | P: +4 (Adv), PPerc: 19 | DV 120'
Mistra takes the final steps closer to the gnolls, knowing that she cannot support the men at the gate with brawn or inspire them with words. She attacks the gnoll directly in front of her, trying to stay far enough back that the others must open themselves to an attack if they advance. Attack Quarterstaff: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 151d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Human Hexblade Warlock 1 | HP: 15/15 THP: 0 | AC 17 | INIT +4 (Adv) | P: +4 (Adv), PPerc: 19 | DV 120'
Mistra charges forward, but stops just short of the gnolls breaking through the defenses - she's going to make them come to her. Using a reaction to attack the first gnoll that comes within 5', via Polearm Master Reaction Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 151d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Hearing the alarm and seeing the rush, Mistra is grateful that she regularly carries her quarterstaff and takes off with Aladair. She hopes to find a position from which she can help defend; while she does have a light crossbow, it is not nearly as effective in her hands as a quarterstaff.
Human Hexblade Warlock 1 | HP: 15/15 THP: 0 | AC 17 | INIT +4 (Adv) | P: +4 (Adv), PPerc: 19 | DV 120'
Mistra moves to stand beside Alastair, subtly placing Penance behind her and attempting to divert the attention of the shopkeeper. Please, answer a question for me. How often do visitors come through town? Are there ever any groups of men who might be... shall we say, of interest to the law?
Human Hexblade Warlock 1 | HP: 15/15 THP: 0 | AC 17 | INIT +4 (Adv) | P: +4 (Adv), PPerc: 19 | DV 120'
Mistra walks up and down the shelves, perusing the contents. There isn't a whole lot that fits into "immediate needs', by her judgement, but... Aladair, if you could add some rope to the list? It came in handy getting here; another coil or two wouldn't hurt. Mistra is not going to be too concerned with anything at this point - she's feeling pretty well set, with the experience in the caves giving her greater confidence in her own abilities (ie leveling up) and the fortunate find of the magical shield.
Human Hexblade Warlock 1 | HP: 15/15 THP: 0 | AC 17 | INIT +4 (Adv) | P: +4 (Adv), PPerc: 19 | DV 120'
Mistra looks down at herself at Aladair's words. I suppose I am presentable enough for the trading post. Practical needs should be met before luxuries. Making sure to catch the innkeeper's attention, she waves towards the door. Master Odo, I will be returning shortly and will gladly take the offer of a wash basin. She heads towards the door, accompanying the elf and anyone else going to the trading post.

Mistra looks over at Penance at the Innkeeper's words. I don't mind bunking with you if you don't mind. It would certainly be nice to have a chance to sleep under a roof. Turning to Odo, she directs her next request to him. I would like cider as well, sir. Does your inn have any provision for washing? We've been through a bit, and I at least would appreciate cleaning up. Also, I forgot about the cache of coin. That will certainly help with dealing with the costs of the inn.
Human Hexblade Warlock 1 | HP: 15/15 THP: 0 | AC 17 | INIT +4 (Adv) | P: +4 (Adv), PPerc: 19 | DV 120'
Mistra starts off after the elf. I'll take you up on that offer! Mistra worries what the prices at the inn will be... This whole adventure wrangled her in because she did not have enough coin to stay the night at an inn, after all.

Mistra edges away from the dwarf, moving closer to Aladair. What he said, exactly. We've had enough troubles because of bandits. Being mistaken for them after what we went through to get away from them? No thank you!

After having the direction helpfully pointed out by Aric, Mistra does a quick check of the surrounding area to make sure everyone is ready, and then suggests the group head in the direction of the river. If the group can reach the river, they will know roughly where they are. Just trying to keep some presence up!

Mistra jumps out of the way as the hook comes clanging back down, almost knocking into her head. She watches as Valghaz takes the rope, straightens it out, and proceeds to make a much more impressive attempt at the process. That was very well done, Master Valghaz. Thank you - I do not want to be in these tunnels any longer than necessary!

Mistra nods in thanks to Penance, threads the rope through the eye of the grappling hook and knots it securely together, and then takes a step away. She swings the grapple, slowly playing out enough line. Here we go! With short grunt she lets the hook fly up the shaft. Grappling Hook: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 Not sure what the target AC would be; a splash weapon targeting a specific square is AC 5, so something like that + a distance Modifier?

Mistra rummages through her pack when they notice the ceiling shaft. Its got to be here somewhere... She pulls a grappling hook from the pack and sets it aside, then looks to the rest of the group with a frustrated sigh. Looks like I forgot to replace my rope after I used it to tie up... well, never mind that. Doesn’t matter now. The point is, does anyone else have some rope?

Well, if no one is interested in the shield Mistra will happily take it. Mistra looks on as Aladair walks towards the main cavern, shrugs and responds. I'm game. Let's find our way out of here. She grabs the shield off the ground, and motions towards the cloak and vials while looking at Conner. Do you want to grab those? We definitely don't want to leave them behind. Since the Sentinel shield is not an attunement item, would I gain it's benefits immediately?
Human Hexblade Warlock 1 | HP: 15/15 THP: 0 | AC 17 | INIT +4 (Adv) | P: +4 (Adv), PPerc: 19 | DV 120'
Mistra shares the information with the rest of the group. I do not think there are any curses on these items... It seems they are designed for protection. The vials, I do not recognize. On the shield, who would be able to use it with their fighting style? Myself and Valghaz, certainly; does anyone else use a shield?
Human Hexblade Warlock 1 | HP: 15/15 THP: 0 | AC 17 | INIT +4 (Adv) | P: +4 (Adv), PPerc: 19 | DV 120'
When Mistra sees that no one is well-equipped to study the items, she leans forward to see if her limited knowledge of the arcane can find any clues. Arcane Check on Cloak: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19

Mistra peers over Aladair's shoulders as he shows the items he had found to the rest of the group. We ought to be careful with those.. Lost in a place like this, they may be cursed. I wonder if anyone has any familiarity with curses? I'm afraid I am not the one to break a curse if it's present...

Seeing that Aladair is not with the main group, Mistra lights a torch and walks over to the Elf. Poisoned, so yeah... Disadvantage on the attack. She's being dragged left! Come on, everyone! Mistra does not want to lose the Tiefling.
