Best of luck to the winners.

I had just checked in after holiday travels to see about updating my story. I can skip that now.

I am getting the feeling that not everyone wants to run a "good" party though this event. :)

@Minwae. Might want to check your encumbrance. I didn't do the math but it looks like it might be in a bad spot.

If you're worried about holding your own in combat, might I suggest another combat route? Dropping strength and putting the points into dex, then go two weapon fighting. If you can secure a flank or a trip, the damage you apply from your sneak attack is pretty impressive. Here is the concept in action.

Carrying 54.46 lbs. lol, gotta love Hero Lab. With an 18 strength I have lots of room there.

This character will be charging to do sneak attack at level 4 and will be spring attacking to do sneak at level 8 - See scout archetype. Two Weapon fighting means full attacking and this rogue is meant to strike and get out. I will look at your concept though. Thanks!

As promised, here is my combat rogue submission. I'll likely tweak him slightly to make sure he meets all the submission requirements and fills the right roll in the party. I see him as the party trap finder and scout, but also someone who can hold his own in melee as a skirmisher. He will never be one to stand toe to toe with an enemy though.

I welcome comments from anyone who cares to review. Thanks!

Min will "help" Trey look over the body... Loot

Poor Ras. I was just getting to like that fellow too. Min falls back into his stealthy advance, listening and looking for traps as he moves.

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

Something feels different now.Min says as he moves back in with the gnome.

Mauybe that undead will rid these caves of the goblins. Min manages to gasp as he runs.

Well, if you are gonna fail, fail big.

With Jauhar ready and moving up. Min moves around the corner silently, with lethal intent.

Move Silently: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

I am hear. In game I have signaled that we should attack and am waiting to hear from our obvious combat leader, Ras Jauhar. Min does not want to charge an enemy until Ras Jauhar is ready to do so.

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

I already made a perception roll for trap finding, above.

Move Silently: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18

Min moves up to AK-6 and listen for a moment.

lol- not sure where this is coming from.

Minwae will begin to move to the next area of the map, checking for traps as he goes.

Find Traps: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

Minwae agrees and hands the stone to the gnome. Gnomes are sneaky too.

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

MInwae palms the thunderstone saying This will come in handy later, I'm sure of it. Lets keep moving.

Goblins are sneaky types. This would have acted as an alarm and done some damage.

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

Min will scout down to where the apparent corpse is, checking for traps and then searching the body. Whispering to Fizz he recommends Detect magic would be nice.

Find traps: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

[ooc]Now I see that I missed the post where combat ended and loot was declared and a fort save requested. We posted in the same minute.

Fort Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18

Smells like goblins, thats all.

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

Let me take point. There might be traps. the rogue explains as he moves up silently beside the gnome and begins to look for traps. Fizz, can you produce a light?

Move Silently: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Trapfinding: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

Not sure who is up or how many goblins remain.

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

The elven rogue licks his lips and smiles lethally at the goblin who attacked him. My turn. he says.

After Fizzy and Trey:

Minwae will delay for a flank, 5' stepping to facilitate, if it will help. But he will attack regardless, if no flank appears.

Long Sword: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 211d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 +2 to hit if a flank
Flank/Sneak attack Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4

Would it make sense to run until the group levels? Half levels?

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

Ok. Sounds like I have Maptools Homework.

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

Hmm. If we are switching up DMing so often then I am glad the current DM's character is tagging along. That will make it easier, and set a precedence that I think we all should follow.

I am gonna need help with creating maps and icons and linking them so that everyone has access. High time I learned how to do all that though. Excellent maps by the way. :)

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

Minwae assess the situation.

He will double move all the way to AB9 believing the goblin cannot take an attack of opportunity while holding his bow.

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

Having fun here.

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

Minwae tries to moves silently, but at regular speed to AC21 to flank with Ras Jauhar.

Move Silently: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 I really should always try to move silently since there is no movement penalty for me.

Long Sword: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 4 + 2 = 241d8 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 3 + (2) = 7

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

What if I just borrow his long bow? :)

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

Minwae moves silently full speed (he can do that without penalty) to close the distance and tries to keep some concealment as he does so.

Can he move strait ahead under the big tree to that wall/pile of rocks?

Move Silently: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

Minwae only nods, holding his sword and a dagger, ready for combat.

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

Not trying to metagame. Just not sure what we know and what we do not. When I run I only put what I what my players to see on the map. Our DM seems to be excellent with maps. My take is we have seen them. I am willing to be corrected, but until we do, my opinion is as valid at least to me.

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

If they are on the map I think we can see them, right? And we still need to choose if the ranger fights with us. I am good either way I guess. My vote would be no, but am fine if others want him along of if the DM will enjoy the game more playing him.

Jauhar, I think I count 4 goblins guarding the entrance from here. No reason to scout them and no likely way to get by them without taking them out. WE lack the firepower to take them from range. We either bluff them as we close or charge them.

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

Good. We are unanimous in our agreement. We have already sold the spoils from the goblin camp. Can anyone use that scroll? I say we should meet up with this ranger fellow and be off.

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

After Minwae's visit with his aunt he returns and gathers the group. He is holding a number of potion bottles when he returns. Here is the offer. They want us to check out a goblin lair, likely a cave but I am not sure. Seems the goblins are more organized of late, which poses a potential problem for all the inhabitants of the forest, elves included. The are offering us the assistance of a guild. Some ranger that can take us there and maybe join us in looking over the lair. In return, we get some additional hospitality and these potions of healing. He will lay 5 potions on the table, one in front of each person, the last in front of himself.

There is a local map we get too, and a boon you all might be very interested in; help with a way home. Seems my cousins can tell that you are not at all from around here. Something about auras and such. They are sure you are from another plane of existence and say that there is a city where you can research a lot more about all that and maybe find out how you came to be here and maybe even how to get back home. He pauses to let all that sink in then adds. Problem is that the city is a good distance away and the trip could be very dangerous. But my cousins have a way to teleport us like they did up into the trees. But they can whisk us all the way over to this city called Mechitar.

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

Minwae eats and drinks with his new companions but then excuses himself to go and check in with his family. Before leaving he thanks his hosts for the food and drink on behalf of all his group. He rejoins the group less than an hour later saying that he has been forgiven and has learned a valuable lesson about what to eat and not to eat in the jungle.

My aunt wants to talk to me in the morning. he explains to the group. I think something is wrong here. It might be a chance to repay this hospitality and earn some coin. Are you interested in helping out if there is a need?

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

The loot - Don't divid the coin or gems in half - gems sell for full price - but it makes only a little difference in the total price - 26.2 gold each. Minwae will offer to keep the caltrops and deploy them for the good of the group and Fizzy hopefully can read the scroll.

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

the elf jests back with the sentry for a moment for giving him a hard time then adds Had me going there for a moment. I have never come in from this direction and was not sure how far the trees were. Have to admit my woodlore is not up to par. Just not my thing. Glad we ran into you before we stumbled onto a troll out there. He shudders at the idea.

Minwae addresses the others in his group a bit sheepishly. Welcome to my home. Well, at least my parents home. Been a long time since I actually lived here.

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

The elf has offered to lead the way explaining that his keen eyes might find a dead fall or pit trap before it is encountered.

When the challenge is spoken he responds. Minwae and friends, We have become lost in these forests. I have recently escaped goblin captivity with the help of this group. One goblin camp will trouble the area no more.

Taking a chance he adds, in Elven

Elven:

We would be your friends.

I would rather not know how you have such knowledge good Jauhar. The jests in good sport. As for me, I have other professions to call upon that suite me better. And the sooner we can leave this place the sooner I can begin to earn coin towards that bow.

Minwae goes and examines the tents.

Appraise: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Not sure if these are worth taking down and carrying with us.

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

Again, I go my Minwae Hu-Man. He says in a jesting way. And yes, I have all the gear I can rightfully claim as mine. But I long for a the composite bows of my people. I simply can not yet afford its purchase. Until then I have these.\ He swift draws a dagger from a wrist sheath and flips it in the air, catching it and returning it to his sheath. But thank you for your offer.

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

Oh, right. you could not worship fiends and follow the Lady, Trey. Please forgive me. I was taken aback by the sudden mention of the archfiend. Ignis, what does it mean to be an impassive follower? Are you somehow compelled?

Minwae will help Jauhar with the bodies and will will test on of the small bows before placing it back in the loot pile shaking his head.

Might I ask where you are bound for? If you have no particular destination in mind, or if you would like a detour, I have a suggestion. I believe I know approximately where I am at, and think I could guide us back to my, er, well, my families home. Before being taken I was living in an elven town not too far from here.

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

hmm. Bows, well, about that. I'd love to have a composite bow but they are quire pricy don't you know. So for now think of me as a sword elf. I am Minwae and am grateful to you for your roll in my rescue. Are all of you fiend worshipers or just Ignus here? Minwae looks a little concerned.

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

The wound on Minwae's leg completely closes, leaving only a cut in the fabric and a brown stain. My thanks to you Trey and to the Lady.

The rogue shimmies into his armor which fits like a glove and checks all his gear as he adds it back to his backpack and harnesses. Everything I had seems to be here. he confirms. These goblin weapons would do in a pinch, but are not sized right for me. Maybe we can sell um?

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

Min will search the goblin that let him out of his cage for the key he must have used, picking up that goblin's weapon as he searches and says I am Minwae, adventurer and treasure seeker. I am not sure how I came to be in this cage, and am grateful for your timely attack that let me slip out. I am hopeful that my armor, sword and other possessions are in this camp somewhere. And who might you three be?

If he finds the key he will attempt to use it to free the gnome.

Looking at the damage caused by the fighter, Minwae bows and adds [b]You may be my blade any time. /[b]

We out of goblins?

M Half Elf Rogue (Scout) 1: Init +5; Senses Perception +8 (11 for traps): AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +3 Dex) : hp 11 : Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2 (+2 vs enchantments)

The elf yelps as the goblins blade bites into his thigh. Vermin he shout. Just wait until I have a blade to return the favor!

The elf wants out of his cage badly but will draw an attack if he tries to attack without a weapon, or grapple, or just run by. So he tries something else.

Bluff: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 In common he yells Look! A huge shaggy dog! while pointing over the goblins shoulder.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 He then attempts to tumble past the distracted goblin and move towards the newcomers that have shown that as a minimum they are enemies of his enemies, if not his friends.
