I've been playing an Oracle of Lore in PFS and I love getting to the point in the curse where he starts getting automatic knowledge checks every turn. When I can't get any more info on the creatures, I just start asking the GM about other random items in the room.

Do I understand correctly, that in PFS we will be forced to use the new mystery/curse rules because it is a character option that has the same name but new rules?

Dennis Muldoon's author-run table: PFS2 Quest 7: A Curious Claim (level 3-6), Saturday noon, still only has two players at the moment.

Ah, man, now I'm really bummed that Picoperi (the Empyreal Lord of Jokes, Pranks and Surprises) didn't get a second edition write-up.

I love the idea of the contest though.

Radiant Oats, perhaps?

Oh, I already made my first character be from Xin-Edasseril, using the small amounts of info I could find. It will be interesting to see how much of his backstory I have to rewrite after playing 1-12.

Interesting. So curses are only tied to specific mysteries? I loved being able to mix and match my curses in PF1. It made for greater variety!

Paradoxically, I suspect this change will lead to more variety in curses at the table. In my experience, players would often pick the easiest curse to work around, or the curse that would have the least impact on their character. By tying a curse to a mystery, Paizo is forcing players to take the good with the bad at character creation, as well as letting the flavor of the curse tie into the associated mystery.

Additionally, and this is just my observation, by moving away from design elements like "lame" and "clouded vision" as curses, the game can steer clear of those aspects of ableism. I don't have an opinion on that, but perhaps others do.

Maybe that is how people played at your table, but I always felt that picking the appropriate curse was an integral aspect of developing the character's backstory.

Oops, you're right. I don't know how I missed that. Thanks.

Anyway, she's a great excuse to use Ewok minis for Grippli, since Paizo has not given us the latter.

I really hope Uskyerial, the Saintly Slumberer, Empyreal Lord of Hunting, Prudence, and Slumber is covered. In my personal cannon I have a village of Grippli that worship this great bear, and wear appropriate costumes in reverence to him.

Bob, might be worth sending an email out to all the GM volunteers. I'm sure there are a fair number who don't look at the forums as a matter of course.
Actually, it was posted in the forums as a courtesy, the official outlet for volunteer communication is the Slack channels. I posted it there first so all volunteers have access to it.

Oh... it would never have occurred to me to return to the Slack channel after the con was over. Thanks for posting it here.

I hope when they write up Lao Shu Po they still allow for neutral clerics. The lore says that most wayangs recognize she is a cruel mistress, but they worship her anyway because she helps them hide in the dark. I would assume that is true for many of the ratfolk that worship her as well.

I think that is in part my response to Bob's statement above: that whether we are dealing with wayangs and Lau Shu Po, or Nidalese humans and Zon-Kuthon, the setting has established that there are people that are less evil than the gods they serve out of cultural tradition or ancient pacts.

I hope the "Speak Local Language" spell from Heroes of the Streets returns soon. That was a favorite on mine in 1E. Alternatively, the return of "Voluminous Vocabulary" from Ultimate Intrigue would be welcome.

The fact that both of these spells existed in 1E indicated an understanding by the designers that communication needed to be made easier, I wonder what happened to make them take it in the opposite direction.

4/5

It does allow you to buy two, one for yourself and one for an unspecified friend, but it has to be for the same event. I agree there is a certain inconsistency to the logic, but that is the small amount of flexibility they allow. The way my group was finally able to get everyone together was by three people buying one for themselves and one for another member of the team when more tickets became available.

Yes, I was going to raise the same issue. If you are the person replaying, it is only good manners to adapt your character selection to the rest of the table. Requiring a character-specific printout before the game is very problematic.

In the official Slack channel for Gen Con

Ugh. I checked the Slack channel before posting the question, but somehow missed it. I have found it now: Pathfinder 2E Core Rulebook (regular edition), Starfinder Beginner Box, or Pathfinder Adventure Card Game Core Set (not the Crimson Throne set).

Bob Jonquet wrote:
Perhaps but we didn’t know that information until this week. We were very careful to inform potential volunteers not to expect the 2E CRB as the reward book because we simply did not know what Paizo was going to donate. A number of people were surprised to learn the Starfinder option is the Beginner Box. It wouldn’t have been totally unexpected had the Pathfinder book been Lost Omens (had it not been delayed of course).

Where was the information on the book choices announced?

4/5

Just to provide a contrarian data point, the reason I am doing 7 tables (for the first time this year) is for the room. If the number was still set at 8, I probably would have just commuted in for one day of the Gallowspire Special and True Dungeon.

I got notification of my GM badge today. Thanks, Bob.

4/5

Ok, thanks for clarifying.

4/5

I tried to buy another ticket, but I'm getting an error message that I don't have a badge. I previously told Gen Con to refund my badge since I was GMing for Paizo and my badge would be covered. Should the system be showing that I have a badge at this point, or is that something the OPF still needs to submit?

4/5

I'm pretty sure it was still an open question at the time I filled out the survey.

Do we know what free books the GMs can get yet? With the "Lost Omens World Guide" being delayed a month, the options have been reduced. I'm sure a lot of us would like to pre-order from our local store what we can't get for free.

4/5

No, no new tables have been posted by Gen Con. I suspect they are deliberately holding onto them until after Sunday so that people can't exchange their tickets to get the new ones.

I believe that Zarta's no longer evil. She's had the most powerful redemption arc of any of the PFS VCs, and has been one of my favorite VCs overall. I do hope that Zarta continues to interact with us for a long time. I have loved watching her change and grow as a VC.

Hmm

Absolutely this, Zartas story from the early seasons to now has been fantastic. Of all the PF characters we've interacted with she has undergone by far the most believable changes in beliefs, personality and morals. I really hope (and feel confident she does) remain with us in some form since she's been such an iconic example of the good that the Society can do not only in the world but for its own members as well. Much as we have pathfinders going bad and making terrible choices, etc she's the rare opposite, like Valais, who has a redemption arc.

Like Paul said above, I really don't know where people are getting this from. Yes, I have seen a decrease in her expressions of decadence, since we don't get daily messages from her anymore, but where have you seen a change in her beliefs?

I've been hoping for a few years now that Alea Tools would return, but it looks like they aren't again. We love using their magnetic markers, especially for tracking flight elevation.

Hero Forge recently added Merfolk, so I am excited to see those in person.

4/5

I hear you Wageslave. I really hope we don't have a GM meeting Sunday afternoon this year so that I can get an hour or two in the Hall.

4/5

Calum, if I knew for sure I wasn't going to be able to trade my Champion ticket, my 15th level Bard or my 15th level Duelist/Lore-Warden/Swashbuckler would fit nicely into your party. But I better not apply yet. Good luck.

What is the feat designed for Duelists?

Please tell me you made a feat for Duelists that actually makes their Parry and Riposte abilities action efficient.

Regardless, this sound like a great one.

So I am running two non-PFS Pathfinder events on my own away from the Sagamore Ballroom, but what if I was able to run a single PFS table? I have an open slot on Saturday morning and would be willing to possible run the PFS event that I wanted to play, #10-22 Passing the Torch Part 1.

Who do I talk to and what other requirements do I need to meet, such as meetings, muster time, etc.?

Is it really feasible for just a single event?

See organizedplayfoundation.org for most of these answers. Yes, they will take you for one table.

4/5

I just want to reassure people that GMing 2 or 3 tables does not take an unreasonable amount of time out of your 4 day con experience. I have done that several years and it always felt like time well invested, and not overly taxing (unless prepping multiple specials). When more people help out a little it increases the energy and quality of the play experience for all.

I can also anticipate some people might be hesitant to GM if they are coming by plane and think it would be hard to bring their normal equipment and miniatures. But pawns work great as monsters, and it is easy to make your own. And no one is going to care if your map has a crease in it from being folded.

4/5

Sure, but more than 84 people have level 15-16 characters. Heck, the people in my intended party have at least two 15th level characters each because we were previously told to have two characters for this scenario.

The Champion tickets sold out first for this tier, so I'm still going to hold out hope that I can trade my highly desired ticket. My teammates would also be willing to swap their Soldiers to join me in Champion if another team has reconsidered playing "hard mode".

Bob Jonquet wrote:
Just a reminder, tickets for specials are sold by sub-tier and in this case further sub-divided by soldier and champion. Be careful to buy the ticket for the specific table you wish to play. Any/all real tickets not being used for the table designated will be converted into priority generic tickets. Meaning that if you chose not to sit at the table that your ticket indicates, you will be shunted to the generic ticket line. However all real tickets in the line will be seated in first come-first serve order based on our available seating and prior to actual generic tickets.

If I'm understanding correctly, the following might happen:

- I want to play Tier 10-11 Soldier, but all those tickets are sold out.
- So I buy a Tier 5-6 Soldier ticket, planning to use it as a "priority generic."
- When the mustering happens I choose not to use my 5-6 Soldier ticket, and wait in line hoping to get into 10-11 Soldier.

But, there's a chance this might backfire horribly.
- It turns out there are no open seats in 10-11 Soldier.
- Since other people with "priority generics" have been seated, someone may have taken my "real-ticket" 5-6 Soldier seat that I didn't use. (Say, someone who bought a 15-16 Champion ticket to use as a priority generic hoping to get into 5-6 Soldier.) But that was my second-choice tier to play.
- By the time the priority generic merry-go-round slows, I may only have a couple of choices left. So I have to decide between 15-16 Soldier or 7-8 Champion (as examples).

So I better be really sure I understand the risks before I gamble on the priority generic line.

Hopefully the area near this line can be a swap meet for ticket holders to maximize the number of people who get to be where they want to be.

In my case, I got the ticket I wanted, but now I'm cut off from my group. I'm sure that has happened to lots of people when we are dealing in such low numbers per category. In retrospect, maybe it would have been better to have had fewer tiers to increase player flexibility.

4/5

Alas, we had a group planning to do 15-16 Champion, but I was the only one to get that ticket, the rest got 15-16 Soldier.

4/5

I'm kind of disappointed to hear that the character switch-out has been removed from 10-98. We have a group that has been trying really hard to get two characters each to the 15-16 tier for that exact purpose.

But I still expect it to be a blast.

And thanks to the Plane Hopper's Handbook, there are two additional sub-races each for the Ifrit, Oread, Sylph and Undine, so that is effectively another 8 options to pick from that are available to everyone.

Two Tier 5-9 adventures in one month. Such a beautiful sight.

Do we know what the next quarterly GM con boon will be?

It has been over three months since Hillary posted the aphorite/ratflok/vishkanya boon. Is that still current?

Follow-up to this: I remember the original requirement for a Suli was the 4 planar races as boons, before they were PFS legal (Ifrit, Undine, Sylph, Oread). Is this still the case, or has the requirements been adjusted to reflect the legality of these 4 races?

You can still combine the four elemental boons to make a suli, but there have also been individual boons that allowed one to play a suli.

I did. While I have invested financially in Starfinder, I haven't really invested in it intellectually yet, nor the playtest. So, I might as well do what I'm good at before it becomes an obsolete skill.

I'm doing 7 tables for the first time, all 1E.

It seemed like an appropriate way to say goodbye to the old system. (Though I'm sure we will be keeping it alive locally for years to come.)

And it should be emphasized that if a race is playable, there is also a good chance that bad guys of that race will appear, and minis will be needed by the GM. For example, there is a PFS scenario wherein most of your opponents are wayangs.

5 people marked this as a favorite.

So many bugs, still so few wayangs, vine leshies, kitsune, nagaji and other playable races.

4/5

Nice! So people can still sacrifice these to build merfork if they want to via the ratfolk. Or make a rare +Str +Int character via the aphorite.

Hilary Moon Murphy wrote:

It's been my tradition in these threads to announce new quarterly boons when I spot them. This quarter, the upcoming races are:

Child of Axis: As creature of pure order from a plane of absolute law, axiomites could not truly understand the behavior of mortals. Thus, they created the first aphorites, a golden-skinned race of people who blend Axis’s rigid nature with free will. Though aphorites may tend toward lawful alignments, their destinies are their own to determine. You may play an aphorite character (Pathfinder RPG Planar Adventures 224).

Rodent Heritage: You may play a ratfolk character (Pathfinder RPG Bestiary 3 231, Pathfinder RPG Advanced Race Guide 150, or Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Inner Sea Races 247). Ratfolk are small, ratlike humanoids with a penchant for tinkering and trade.

Venom-Blooded: Your exceedingly fine scales and forked tongue identify you as something more than human. You may play a vishkanya character (Pathfinder RPG Bestiary 3 281, Pathfinder RPG Advanced Race Guide 208, or Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Inner Sea Races 253).

Hmm, are you saying one boon opens up all three? With no additional cost?

Or that some cons will have one race boon this quarter and other cons will have another? Or is this a progression over the next three quarters?

4/5

Any news yet on when the Special might be given to the GMs?

4/5

Our local store games have actually grown a bit recently, but we have completely ignored 2E and have focused on just enjoying the current campaign for as long as we have it, adding in a little SFS.

We have several players who started in season 5 or later, and who just occasionally go to cons to supplement our twice-a-month offerings at the store, so they still have a few years of potential play left. Those of us who will run out of 1E scenarios soon after the end of season 10 have, for now, decided to digest 2E slowly and will cross that bridge when we come to it.

When is this coming out? I am scheduled to run it at a con in a few weeks.
