Matius pats the snout of the horse."Easy boy, this will be over in a jiffy." With that he takes a few steps away and raises his crossbow.

Ooops Sothal, I accidentily put +5 instead of +3 for the crit confirm but seeing as I rolled two natural 20's(!) i dont suppose it matters much.

Matius listens closely to Queslin's account before replying." There are dangereous things out there Queslin, kobold's the least of which. I suggest we all go, as we will be better able to deal with any threats. The more stealth inclined of us would still scout slightly ahead of the party at large of course, and I think I could be of some assistance to you there."

OOC: I think it's best if everyone goes, one: so one or two characters dont get picked off easily by a bandit patrol or random encounter, and two: simply so that everyone is involved in the action!

Male Human Rogue 1st

Matius sorts through the goods and reinforces Bran's thanks to their hosts while awaiting the return of the scouts. He glances at the piked bandit heads and cant help but shake his head remorsefully. Perhaps he was a "bleeding heart" as the dwarf would say but he couldn't prevent himself for feeling a bit of sympathy for the men not too much unlike himself who never had much of a chance from society, and were now hung from it.

Male Human Rogue 1st

Well we pretty much didn't get any information about the bandit's so i suppose we're going in blind. It's either try to find the bandit's, which we know pretty much nothing about, or we just begin exploring the region, systematically like.

Male Human Rogue 1st

Anyway we can make these multiple intimidate rolls into aid another for my roll? WE might get somewhere with team work.

Male Human Rogue 1st

Stepping forth and striding in front of the others who gather around with threats, Matius offers the sniveling brigand a knowing smile as he crouches close in front of him and holds up a finger to the rest of the group." One moment friends." With this he turns his full attention to the bandit." Hey there guy, looks like this payment didn't quite turn out the way you expected huh?" He begins, his ego wouldn't allow him to conduct the conversation without taunting the men." Yes well I understand how things are here. In fact I'm from this very area. I grew up earning a living in much the same way you probably did. That being said, I'm sure I was alot nicer about it. No one should ever refer to a lady the way you referred to good Majet."He pauses for a moment to shake his head" Now good sir, as my companions mentioned-We are in need of information. The more you tell me the better your chances are that I don't unleash the magic fellow or the savage little gnome with the acid on you. If you're having a hard time thinking then some suggestions are things like How many bandits? Leader's name? What type of weapons? Spellcasters? Where is your hideout? Traps? Lookouts? Oh and of course who was the lady that came with you on the first visit?" Matius stands and looks back at his companions." Now speak fast because he's been itching to use his newest face-melting spell." With that he leans forward with his hand behind his ear mockingly.

Sorry about the disappearing act guys, just trying to get some things in order this week for college. I'll try to give you a heads up next time.

Matius tries to close the gate hastily with the help of Bran. He then draws his rapier and prepares to attack." End of the Road Brigands." He calls out with a flick of his rapier. Trying to demoralize here.

"I'll have to agree with Queslin here. If we ambush them on the open road it'll be harder to contain them, and almost impossible if they're mounted. The last thing we want is for them to run back and get reinforcements to burn the whole trading post down."

Male Human Rogue 1st

Matius listens sympathetically as the Levontons tell the tale of the ring." If the ring is still with the bandits, I shall return it to you Svetlana, and Oleg. Furthermore, I agree that an ambush is the best course of action. We'll spring forth and pick them off one by one. If i know how these bandits think, there will likely be no more than five this time. Queslin is correct, one should be left alive for questioning. If the cloaked man with the bow is with them then we should capture him as he likely knows the most."

Male Human Rogue 1st

Matius smiles knowingly and nods. " Indeed Oleg, A right fine wife she is." He begins, his eyes falling to her ring finger where he noticed a small band of skin fairer than the surrounding area." Dirty are the brigands who remove what I'm sure was a right fine ring from such a right fair hand." He adds emphatically, his talent for orating beginning to show as the disdain rings through his voice. " My sword Arm is yours Oleg. The bandits shall collect no further payment as long as i draw breath."

Male Human Rogue 1st

After finishing his meal he raises his brow at his etiquette impaired companion, shaking his head ever so slightly as he turns his attention to Oleg and more so, Svetlana. His curiousity begs the question as to why this charming lady was with such a grumpy old broken man. His eyes search for any actual sign of their relationship."Do tell us Svetlana, how it is that one such as yourself and your... Father Oleg? He stops for a moment here, but resumes before they have a chance to respond" Came to be the last bastion of hope amongst these wild lands?"

Matius bows low as he is introduced, leaping from the cart and taking the lady's hand. "Tis an honor M'lady." He remarks as he kisses the back of her hand before standing upright and turning his eyes towards Oleg."Yes, Good day to you too sir!."

--------------------------------------------

Turning his attention to the food he goes the way of big Ern and smiling all the while draws his rapier. With precision he stabs it into a bit of bread beneath the large man's hand and in the same fluid motion withdraws, the bread now perched on the tip of the blade." Sometimes Ern, precision is more important than tearing one's target asunder." He remarks, removing the piece of bread from the sword and eating it graciously. He sheaths the thin blade at his waist and takes a seat, Nodding to Big Ern.

Male Human Rogue 1st

Matius remains mostly quiet as the the cart sways to and fro under the weight of the accumulated weight of the diverse party. He bellows out the occasional laugh and accepts the rotgut liquor in stride when it is offered. He keeps a wary eye on The elf, Queslin. He had the composure of a law man and his profession had taught him to be wary of such men. Perhaps emboldened by the amber liquid He speaks up again." Since we shall be working together throughout this endeavor, I suppose you should know my name is Matius Drake. It is a pleasure to meet all of you."

Male Human Rogue 1st

Rumour Role:1d10 ⇒ 10

Matius walked alongside Micheal's cart. Despite the biting wind and his knee high Leather boots occasionally sinking into the damp ground, his face remained calm and his stride even. He was happy to be on the road again. He was happy to be doing something. A life in motion is the only life not in shackles, he thought. His eyes were sharp as he knew predators of both the two and four legged kind might be eager to pounce at any moment. His eyes catch the sudden movement of Micheal instead and he listens as the man makes his kind offer. Matius smiles and and steps up on the cart effortlessly. Admittedly, he had boarded a carriage or two at much faster speeds in less legal lines of work. To leap upon an open cart trotting along at the will of an Ox was child's play. His youthful face glowing bright enough to rival that of Micheal's, he extends a hand towards him. " Matius Drake," He begins, his voice carrying over the wind."I'd be happy to take you up on your kind offer..." He pauses, waiting for the man's name.

So, starting at the top:

Your Disable Device should be at +8 and you have a situational +1 on Perception to notice traps.

Noted!

DM Sothal wrote:

You are human, so you got a +2 to one ability to spend.

Ahhh I'm not sure how I forgot to do that, thank you for pointing that out, a put the +2 on his charisma.

DM Sothal wrote:

Also, what bonus do you choose for your Favored Class?

Rogue of course! Forgive me for leaving that off I'll fix it.

EDIT: Oh it was already there and I looked over it myself-So I can see where you might have missed it. Under the Stats spoiler and then under the Heading of Abilities.

DM Sothal wrote:

Could you point out where your traits are from?

Brigand is from the Kingmaker player's guide and Threatening defender is from Cheliax:Empire of Devils. My character isn't from cheliax although he likely is of Chelish descent, but I didn't think the trait itself seemed all that tied to Cheliax, and I figured it was something developed from a childhood of robbery and generally being the arch typical rapier-wielding highwayman character.

That being said it is your game and I understand completely if you'd rather me pick a different trait.

DM Sothal wrote:

Checking your gear, it seems way too much, even accounting for your Brigand-Trait. PCGen says 554.52gp expended.

Ahh, again this was my mistake- You see in Matius' original game the characters got a free masterwork weapon and I believe that was what was putting me way over the top. I added up the prices again and even made some changes and I think I should be okay now.

Thanks Sothal, Anything else?

Here we are.

Male Human Rogue 1st

Matius intervenes in the dwarf's cutting of the bandit's throat." Easy Thumparr, I like the Gnome's method. Let the will of the Gods decide their fate." He'll journey with Muk as well, although solemnly. He was opposed to taking life, even if it was a cruel one. His own life was not too different from these two men before he had a chance to turn around. As Muk finishes the arrangement he says a prayer and looks at the bandits with a warm smile."Good luck brothers."

Male Human Rogue 1st

OOC:

Spoiler:

Again I have to agree with Heaven's Agent on the narration style. Even though i didn't get my planned actions up in time it still feels like narration to me. Present the situation, let the players react. Pbp combat is slow and we all knew that when we voiced interest in the game. I'm okay with it going slow, I just want to participate-Thanks.

With that he leans forward with his hand behind his ear mockingly.

"Ah yes how could I have forgotten bringing one in alive?" He questions himself."However I'm not fond of the idea of you lying in wait outside of the outpost. I think it's best not to spread ourselves out and if we have them corralled within the walls of the outpost, then it would be much easier to keep them from running out the gate then to keep them from running out in the open."

Male Human Rogue 1st

Tilting back in his chair, Matius looks about the group."Orin you look pretty confident with that bow of yours, I suggest you lay in wait atop the tallest building, where Oleg was repairing the roof. From there you should be able to take shots at any of the bandits." He reasons as he begins to think again. "Thumparr I like your idea of one or two horseback riders on their Rear to keep them from running, but I don't think we have any mounts suited for combat, and I'd hate to lose a perfectly good horse. Instead how about two of us hide near the gate and come out when Orin releases his first attack, in order to keep them from retreating? Perhaps you and Muk would be suited for this?" He suggests." The rest of us will take cover in buildings on opposite sides of the street, and attack first from a distance, weakening them before pulling out our blades and finishing them off- Orin providing sheets of fire all the while." He finishes enthusiastically, nearly falling out of his chair. "Oleg of course it'll be up to you to act like business as usual until the ambush is sprung. All in favor say Aye!"

Male Human Rogue 1st

Matius laughs at the gnome's response. " In all seriousness priest.." He says to Den. " They did say that the bandits had been sending fewer and fewer to collect the payment, I'm sure we can handle it." He says confidently.

Male Human Rogue 1st

"Well..." He starts, stroking his chin in thought"You have a deal Oleg!" He stops for a moment and turns to the rest of the group- As if he had forgotten them for a moment. " So unless there's any difference of opinion, Do show us to our rooms Oleg."

Male Human Rogue 1st

With a winning smile Matius Dismounts from his horse and produces a piece of rolled paper from it's saddlebag. Moving swiftly to Oleg he places the paperwork in his hand " Gracious Oleg, I believe this is the proof you require." He says turning to his traveling companions." And as for our skill with the blades.. He starts, tapping on the hilt of his rapier absentmindedly as he looked over his allies." Well I assure you Oleg it is unmatched!" He exclaims as he spins on his heels to once again face the man. " Now, If you're expecting a payment tomorrow then it would be in your best interest to allow your weary new guards to enter and rest-If you would be so kind sir." He suggests, the winning smile never leaves his face.

Male Human Rogue 1st

So i was away from the computer yesterday and i didn't get a chance to jump in on this but I'd love to if you don't mind a bit of a late entry to the mock combat. Furthermore, I respect your decision to do this the way you want, but now that you've done this round in the narrative style that you're fond of (and I'm not), how about we resolve this next round in the normal way. (The players actually participate and make their own rolls, is what I'm meaning. Then you recap at the end of the round and tell us the damage.) I hope it doesn't seem like I'm being unreasonable- I just really detest this narrative style.

Male Human Rogue 1st

That leaves the Human Druid "Den Sarment" as played by French Wolf and Heaven's Agent's as-of-yet nameless Gnome Barbarian.

I'm Not gonna lie, the anticipation is killing me here.

"Good to know that when I am king, I'll have such beautiful women filling these roles."
[/cheese]

Haha, everyone else?

Male Human Rogue 1st

So let's talk roles
With all these people there's probably a greater chance of multiple characters wanting the same role, it might be a good idea to get a good idea of what everyone is gunning for so that we don't step on one another's toes too much.

I'm looking for Ruler for Matius

How about everyone else?

Male Human Rogue 1st

Profile Completed.

I certainly don't want to be rude Uriel, and of course you can do this anyway you'd like-It being your game and all I'm just happy to participate.

That being said, I think you might be over-thinking some things.

For one, is all this e-mail run around really necessary?

I mean, the characters are complete(or getting there) under their respective aliases and simply looking at them here in their preferred format is probably easier than E-mailing back and forth. And i think any discussions about changes can be handled a lot easier here, amongst the rest of the party- Such is the purpose of the discussion thread no?

Again, not trying to hate on your method or discourage you in any way, Just offering my opinion on the matter, since you're new to the realms of play by posts.

Male Human Rogue 1st

Hey Terra and company, Here's Matius Drake, Duelist extraordinaire ; )

admittedly pbp's have been sort of on the back burner as of late but i was hoping you'd still have me, and if not I understand completely.

vagrant-poet wrote:

Oh hey i suppose i should've asked that too =P

EDIT: Here's Matius Drake, Straight fighter, looking to go into the Duelist Prestige Class, his profile still has a bit of work to be done, but i figured i'd show you what was done so far.
