Haha did I freak out and smite a standard 4 hp skeleton? I have a couple of questions about the campaign if that is cool. First, is there a "solution" to the rat room? Second, would Othelia have attacked us if we kept trying to talk to her? Last, how did you expect us to deal with the corrupt priest business? (I don't mean this in the this is impossible why would you do this way) About the difficulty, I agree that it is potentially too rough for level 3. The ghost and shadow fight is basically be prepared for incorporeals or die. About the game in general:
I think parts of the game were just unavoidably hindered severely by PbP. Specifically the moral conundrum around the priest and the thug would have taken pausing the game for like a month to have an in-character conversation to play it out adequately. And that is a conversation I definitely would have lost track of anyway. There is no way around this that I can see. We also got a bit lost in the orphanage, both just physically on the map and with what we thought we were expected to do. The first could be helped by having a list of where we haven't explored and periodically posting it. I think this could be done in a way that wasn't cheating/hints if it was basically just a list of doors we have seen but not opened. The second is more difficult. It felt like the game almost broke there at the end where we thought there was some mystery to solve and didn't know what the clues were, but really we just had to go back up and crack open the last two chests. I don't blame you for this at all. Unfortunately a suggestion I have is to avoid hard choices. I don't like this because hard choices are one of the best parts of stories. But they take so long to be done properly with character discussion and agreement. Definitely take this with a giant pile o' salt because it is probably wrong and taking choices out of adventures ruins the point. Lastly, thank you very much for running this I had quite a lot of fun through most of it.

Marcus shrugs a bit at Mathias' question.
Marcus calls upon the power of his goddess and takes a mighty swing. Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15

Creature of the night! Come and face your judgement!
Very well let us see what we can learn. Marcus' voice returns to a normal tone and he helps the others carry some of the documents out to better light.

Marcus is poking around the bedrolls and anything else that looks like it belonged to whoever was living here, detecting evil as he goes. This isn't a place any reasonable person would live. So it either wasn't so haunted a few months ago when they were here or they were here specifically for the haunting. If it is the latter this town might have bigger problems than just the ghosts and monsters here.

Did something happen when Mathias smashed the mirror? Marcus drinks one of his cure potions. Cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 Marcus shivers a bit and puts a hand on his stomach. This must have been a horrible place. He follows Beswaur through the next door.

Marcus nods I expected whatever was in there to attack us. He uses his detect evil to search along with Mathias before moving on. Where have we not searched? I guess the room with the harpsichord and maybe some more of the first floor?

Is the stove locked?
If he doesn't have any Marcus will hand Mathias two flasks of holy water. If the stove seems to be locked he will ask for the keys, otherwise he will just try to unlatch the door by hand. I am wearing banded mail and I imagine heavy leather gloves that would protect me at least from a normal amount heat, but probably not rated for stove demons :)

Marcus glances quickly at the fireplace but doesn't stop long enough to examine it closely. He turns his attention to the ooze. Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
I like this ooze, it has AC appropriate to our luck.

Dunno, but its trying to eat me so I'm going to stab it just after I...
Haha! Yes! Finally!

Well at least you roll well for us. Marcus yanks his sword out of the pile and brings it down towards the centipede again. Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Narrowly missing the nimble bugger.

Marcus drops his torch somewhere on the dirt floor and runs to the centipede on the log pile. He attempts to cut it in two. Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Instead he rams his sword gloriously into the moldy log pile.

When we are done Marcus bows his head over the grave and saysRest in peace. Then he turns back to the orphanage. There were a couple more rooms upstairs in this cursed place. Let's check those and move on to the main floor.

Marcus will buy 10 torches, a flint and steel, and 4 oils of magic weapon. What is the plan? I say we just go in the front door again and look around. We know there are at least some of those dark spirits. Hopefully the hag-ghost hasn't somehow come back.

Marcus stares defiantly at the wounded thug and his hand drifts towards his sword, but he leaves when Mathias does. Outside in the street he says, I say we rest up and come back, maybe tonight. See if he is so aloof and dismissive while he's sleeping. How much magic do you have left Beswaur?

I ran to the other side of the table to attack Mathais' thug. They should have 13hp and 30hp, and my guy probably got an attack of opportunity on me. Marcus lay on hands himself again and takes another swing at the thug menacing Mathias. Lay on hands: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
