The way I look at it, that encounter was never meant to be winnable as a straight fight. It's meant to be something that you sneak around and approach with caution, probably encounter and then retreat from.

Back in the days of Monty Haul, my brother DM'ed a group that had recently been to the Barrier Peaks. The killer monk in that party rode onto Nosnra's feast table on a wheely sled. Much fun ensued.

Have lots of fun guys, Luthia out!

Yep, Luthia is down, and likely staying that way. Sorry folks, I'm not feeling this system at the moment, so I won't be re-entering the Steading with a new character. By all means avenge Luthia and retrieve her cloak of elvenkind and spider boots.

Luthia's last thought as she falls beneath the terrible blows is, surprisingly, not one of frustration with her rash companions, rather that she let herself down...and did not listen to her own intuition.

Just saying, looking at Elwe and Luthia, 8th level Monks are way overpowered in Next… ;p

Luthia sees the hopelessness of the situation, but sees no option that doesn't involve betraying her companions…

She wails on the bear a little more…

So currently we have Oskar and Malaki bleeding out on the ground, Olden running away, with Luthia and Elwe unresolved?

Female Half-Orc Monk 8 HP: 59/22; AC 15; Saves: Str +2, Dex +3 (+5), Con +2, Int +1, Wis +3 (+6), Cha +2; Init +2; Ki points 0/4

So if you have 0 HP and are hit three times in a round that's three failures and you are dead? That's way easier than doing neg total HP. I'm down with that.

The first "total neg HP" is very "heroes don't die", and doesn't feel like enough risk.

I had 27 HP, then took 31, so I was on -4.

With Oskar's 49 am I on 45 now? If so, then:

Luthia falls to the voracious wolves, enduring no longer. When healed by Oskar, she rises defiant, and strikes the bear attacking Malaki, attempting to draw it away from the doughty warrior.

Won't be posting tonight I don't think. DMNPC me if need be, Lithia has no more ki so it's just a three attack flurry with no advantage, +2 str, +3 Prof, any other buffs and 1d8 damage. She has a couple hand axes and a spear for ranged attacks. Oh, and a cloak of elvenkind and spider boots... ;)
Sorry for the delay...

Full disclosure: As I said at the outset of Recruitment, I DM'ed this back in the early-mid 80's. My brother's party made it all the way through G1-3 and are still waiting for us to pick up their empty shells somewhere in D1...

I know what this is all about as it was written, but I'm not sure DM Nerk hasn't changed/tweaked things up.

I'm expressly forbidding myself from checking the original adventure out regardless.

For what it's worth, I can't remember much of it, and if there were worgs in a courtyard and a separate outbuilding I have forgotten it...

Luthia could enter with Oskar in chains/on a shield trussed up as dinner just to give us a moment of surprise or something. (I know I already suggested something similar last time, but still....) Just entering every room and bashing everything doesn't do it for me...

The fire trick has worked so far. - let us continue to use our wits... I guess even if we can kill everything, facing a baker's dozen large creatures and wiping the floor with them does seem a little out of whack even for five "heroes"...

Female Half-Orc Monk 8 HP: 59/22; AC 15; Saves: Str +2, Dex +3 (+5), Con +2, Int +1, Wis +3 (+6), Cha +2; Init +2; Ki points 0/4

Luthia eyes the room quickly. She hisses a warning

"Wait. We have no enmity with the cloud giant and stone giants! Let us try a different approach than wanton butchery!"

Elwe, the whole reason Luthia is constantly being painfully cautious and not wanting to melee with endless giants and ogres (or here - a cloud giant, 3 stone giants, 5 ogres and 4 hill giants, no matter how drunk - that's 13 foes - even if you manage to scare them by toppling the cloud giant in the first round it's still a dozen to our 5) is that we have no AoE spells - unless Oskar or Olden are hiding something…

[EDIT - oh you mean Elwe is waiting for Oskar and Olden's buffs - good point]

Luthia is the Evil character here too! ;p …Maybe I'm just not gelling with you guys playstyle...

Female Half-Orc Monk 8 HP: 59/22; AC 15; Saves: Str +2, Dex +3 (+5), Con +2, Int +1, Wis +3 (+6), Cha +2; Init +2; Ki points 0/4

Luthia chews her lip for a moment before nodding.

"Fine. Let us strike now. We wait for the last to leave then come upon them from behind. These creatures will use every advantage they have, and I recommend we do the same..."

Female Half-Orc Monk 8 HP: 59/22; AC 15; Saves: Str +2, Dex +3 (+5), Con +2, Int +1, Wis +3 (+6), Cha +2; Init +2; Ki points 0/4

When Malaki returns:

"Moving in further is inadvisable. We at least know that which we have explored - fighting in unexplored territory will only lead to... shortcomings of a bloody nature."

Luthia listens to Elwë.

"While the tower poses no threat to Malaki and I with our magical boots it makes retreat unattainable as Oskar mentioned. Yes it will give us a height advantage, and delimit the number of foes attacking at once; but if they decide to push it over, or worse, learn from our rather brash use of fire we could easily perish there."

Luthia thinks hard.

"Perhaps we should merely find and pick off outlying giants where possible, making sure our avenues of retreat are still open to us. In this emergency, there may be confusion and lack of organisation."

I'll have to check the restrictions then. Where are the rules for multiclassing?

As for MCAs I find PbP GMs occasionally allow them after I explain they are really just like an archetype of the Primary Class. We are also just about to relsease our second (and free) PDF - I'll let you know when it goes live...

Well that seems like a design flaw right there. ;) Nice to see multiclassing being promoted however unwittingly...

Not that I would complain, I fail my Will save to multiclass almost every time, and working on Multiclass Archetypes only makes it worse...

@Malaki - looking at your character - multi classing is interesting in this edition as it adds a bunch of skills to your repertoire -

* do you get different Proficiency bonuses for each set - i.e. 5th level Proficiency bonus for Fighter skills and 3rd level Proficiency bonus for Rogue skills?

* How does multi classing work with Proficiencies for weapons/attacks - is it combined?

Luthia likewise calms herself and shakes the energy of combat out of her limbs, stretches her neck from side to side and drops to her haunches - her favorite thinking position.

At last. A sense of scale and perspective is achieved.

At some point the feasting revealers will come. There is no denying that. So far, the fire hasn't seemed to rouse them yet, nor our combat.""

Luthia pauses for a moment, idly toying with a bit of discarded bloodied cartilage from an ogre's misshapen head.

"Our best option is to winnow around them as much as possible and try to find a place to meet them on our terms. They have the home advantage here - up until now, we have little idea of the interior of the hall."

Just looked again at Flurry and Supreme Flury and realised I may be misinterpreting.

Flurry says I can make two unarmed attacks, plus an additional attack if I spend a ki point.

Supreme Flurry say I get two extra unarmed attacks. I interpreted that to mean "three/round" + 1 if I spend a ki point. But maybe it means "two/round" + 2 if I spend a ki point.

Feel free to check Luthia's class abilities/Playtest rules for your elucidation.

What do we think these two abilities are trying to say?

Though impressed by the slaughter of the giantesses, Luthia's sardonic humor is unrelenting as she approaches the nearest ogre...

"So, there's the alarum raised. Anyone want to die here or in a room with less approaches?"

Would Luthia have been able to make a Flurry with an opp. attack?

Also, in case you are wondering, Luthia doesn't think anything shouted even in Orcish was going to stop those orcs running…

Ok, understood. Love the apron-tangling. So we do now have damage bonus from Olden and attack bonus from Oskar? Nice. Let me know when it is Luthia's turn.

Remember she is wall-walking so out of reach of orcs but not ogres or giantesses. Seems these slippers are a bit powerful, and Malaki has some too... Thoughts? Is there a downside to walking in the wall/ceiling permanently? Definitely a nice way to avoid floor traps...
