Do you yearn for a simpler time, when video games scrolled right and you only had to deal with two buttons at a time? An era where blocky, colorful, vaguely recognizable shapes made up heroes that battled odd and often confusing villains with little to no context? Then Fat Goblin Games has you covered!

Welcome to 8-Bit Adventures!

This product line is designed to take a nostalgic look at the iconic video games of the past and bring those adventures to life in your campaigns in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game with all new options. Each volume will includes all the things you need to play a game “inspired by” a classic video game! The names have been changed, but the flavor remains the same to ensure that the references are easy to see. Each volume describes a different game world, each inspired by a classic game sure to inspire nostalgia in even the most hardened of veterans.

This volumes covers the iconic gear (both magical and mundane) found in the harsh lands of the Vampire Kingdom that can be used to defend against and defeat the undead legions and other supernatural beings that roam and terrorize the lands.

You can read a blog all about it (and see a preview of it) right here!

And you can pick up a copy of it on DriveThruRPG.com here!

We'd love to hear what you all think!

We're planning on a lot of different kinds of support, but this is the one I had art work for today (go to the link).

Cosmic Odyssey: Pirates of the Starstream from Kim Frandsen.

See the blog post for a cover image and product description ;)

Lets us know what you think? What would you want to see? What wouldn't you want to see?

We have a lot of other things planned (see a link at the top in today's blog for a bigger discussion).

Hello all!

Head on over to FatGoblinGames.com to my latest blog-post to read all about our brand new Line Developer -- Landon Winkler!

Landon will be taking over the Shadows over Vathak horror setting released by Fat Goblin Games.

A little more about Landon:

FGG wrote:

Landon kicked off GMing in elementary school with Alien-inspired body horror, but has mellowed with regular doses of Lovecraft and Chambers since then. He GMs two to four times a week now, honing those skills on a diverse group of players.

He's freelanced sporadically since the 3.5 era with companies like Zenith Games, Mongoose Publishing, Silven Publishing, and Paizo. He'd like to apologize if he killed any of your characters during that stretch.
Landon is also lead developer for the web games Metroplexity and Twilight Heroes under Metroplexity Games.

Hello all,

Fat Goblin Games has posted about our Goblin Hoarde's Hoard Bundle in the past, but this is the first and only time it will be available on OneBookShelf websites (DriveThruRPG.com & RPGNow.com), and once it's gone, it wont come back!

I talk about this Bundle in a blog-post today (and I feature some other products too for the vs. M Engine, specifically vs. Moon Men!)

Full list of products here, and the Bundle is $30, BUT you discount what books you've bought from Fat Goblin Games before on OBS sites!

Pick up this massive ultra-mega bundle today!

Hello All,

Last week we announced here that we had posted our ultra-mega bundle on our own website, FatGoblinGames.com -- 293 books, over 3,000 pages, for only $30!

But THE BUNDLE IS NOW ON THE OPEN GAMING STORE! (the storefront associated with d20pfsrd.com).

So if you didn't pick it up on our own website, you can grab it now on OGS!

Read all about the Bundle and why we consider it both a "thank you" and a celebration of our Past here in our blog-post from The Fattest Goblin Himself!

So, just diving into it -- but I really hope you mean what you think you mean when you say:

Quote:
Your first glimpse of the asylum is like a snapshot of nightmarish chaos. Things are certainly not what they seem, and carnage fills the grim stone halls of the sanitarium.

A sanitarium is NOT an asylum or other hospital for MENTAL HEALTH, it's an old practice used to keep the chronically ill cared for and often separate from society (like the tuberculous sanatoriums of the past). See Wikipedia article here.

Its a common misconception, but one that mental health professionals and historians alike have been trying to "correct" for decades, for a number of reasons that can actually still matter today. For instance, finding a certificate of clean health, which some sanatoriums gave to former patients, for a loved one like your father/grandfather that may have spent time as a child (for instance) in a sanitarium during a bout of pneumonia, tuberculosis, etc. as one of my great-uncles did. No need to suddenly question the mental health of your loved one (or self) because they survived TB.

Anyways... looks fun so far!

Hello All,

Fat Goblin Games has released vs. Ghosts here on Paizo.com!

For a preview of this game, check out my discussions of the vs. M Engine and the original vs. Monster game here on the FatGoblinGames.com Blog (the original vs. Monsters is available from Ronin Arts here on Paizo.com for free!) or my Preview Blog of the book itself and its system!

We had a blast writing this game and it uses a fun and easy mechanic based on cards and would play like a "complex" board game like Arkham Horror, etc.

I'll try to check here, the game post, and our Facebook page for anyone with questions as often as I can!

I wonder why this is under "Other" when Ronin Arts has a vs M tag for the original book?

I wonder why this is under "Other" when Ronin Arts has a vs M tag for the original book?

This seems to be the only place left on the Internet to get a legitimate copy of vs. Monsters. I wonder if Philip J. Reed, or whomever owns the games now, would add the vs. Engine, vs. Outlaws, and vs. Monsters Deluxe to this space or is there another once I'm just not aware of?

His websites, for Ronin Arts and his personal page Philip J Reed aren't up anymore.

I saw a news article on the web about them partnering with Green Ronin, but that has lead me no where as well.

Fat Goblin Games is running a competition on its Facebook page for Shadows over Vathak.

You can submit a 50 word description of your idea for our four, new Iconic character classes (the disciple, fortune-teller, reanimator, and soldier), and fans of SoV's Fb will vote by "liking" the the pitches.

Top pitches get a free digital copy of the book AND they get to submit an image that Rick Hershey, The Fattest Goblin of All, will turn into the likeness for our Iconic Disciple, Fortune-Teller, Reanimator, and Soldier!

Full contest details are in a blog-post on FatGoblinGames.com, and you can ask questions either here, on Facebook, or anywhere for more details as needed!

I've seen this kind of Call to Action from others, and I thank deeply those of you that have answered it (Malwing, I'm thinking of you, and doc_the_grey, but I know others have said it and are trying to do it).

But today in my blog-post for Fat Goblin Games, I try to make a very general plea:

Please, Please, PLEASE!!! Review the Books You Buy. If You Buy 3PP, Your Voice Really Can Matter.

Also, just a general "Thank you" to those of you that do already try to review all the books you buy!

Star Voter Season 6, Star Voter Season 7, Star Voter Season 8, Star Voter Season 9

So, Round 3 entries are up, and I am curious how my fellow RPG SS community members are voting? Troy Daniels posted a solid blog-post on Fat Goblin Game's website about his own opinions on Monster Design, and I think I'm going to reference him in my own critiques.

Two great new releases from Fat Goblin Games!

Sir Reginald Lichlyter's Magical Beers, Tankards, & Other Inebrious Items
Written by Jeff Gomez, whom wrote our Call to Arms: Powders & Dust, this second book in the Sir Reggie line (Pick up the Trusty Tavern Tome HERE!) and adds many new and revised options for the lover of brews in all of us.
After having spent so much time voting on RPG Superstar, a lot of people might appreciate some of the weapon options we added in the book.

Sir Reginald Lichlyter is back, and this time it's all about magical beer! With over 30 new magical drinks and nearly 100 items, spells and enchantments, the Guide to Magical Beers, Tankards, and other Inebrious Items will see extensive use in the bars and handy haversacks of Pathfinder.

From the jug of overflowing beer to the imperial stout of teleporting toasts to the cursed ale of instant addiction to the deadly incantation inebriate, the guide provides a range of unique additions to your game world. But magical drinks are never as straightforward as potions, and with every mouthful an adventurer suffers some inebriating drawback.

Included in this guide are nearly 100 items, spells and enchantments, a mechanic for brewing magical drinks, the drawbacks of a hangover, rules for alcohol addiction, and a fun method for determining a character's drink limit and level of drunkenness. Besides, don't you want a +2 inebriating sword?

Astonishing Races: Grippli
We also have released a newly revised and drastically expanded version of a racial guide to everyone's favorite frog-folk -- the grippli. The first of the redesigend Astonishing Races line, this book combines information from the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Advanced Racial Guide and FGG's former Racial Ecologies: Grippli book, doubling the page count up to 32 pages for the PDF product.

Astonishing Races: Grippli gives the grippli a full-racial review and expansion, emulating the style of the "Core Races" as detailed in books like the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Advanced Race Guide and others. Astonishing Races: Grippli aims to give players of the Small, frog-like grippli immersive, world-neutral materials and support for almost any kind of play. Included are new and expanded options for alternate racial traits and subtypes, favored class options for all the base, core, hybrid, and occult classes, and three racial archetypes. The book also has new racial rules for grippli equipment, feats, traits, magic items, spells and more! So if you’ve ever wanted to play a poison tree grippli, The Exterminator archetype, a gliding jumper with a love of war paint and powders, or just plain love frog-people, Astonishing Races: Grippli is the book for you!

Hello All!

Just wanted to announce that the latest in the Call to Arms line from Fat Goblin Games is now available as a PDF from the Paizo store -- Call to Arms: Powders & Dust.

The last book in this series, Garrett Guillotte's Call to Arms: Fantastic Technology sold amazingly well with two solid reviews so far, and while I suspect fewer people will be so strongly drawn to a book about mundane and alchemical powders and magical dusts, I really hope you'll give the book a chance!

If you'd like to read more about the book or it's author, check out my blog-post from fatgoblingames.com available from this link.

If you have questions, want to know more about it, etc. feel free to post here or in the product discussion, and I'll be trying to come back here and there to see what people have to say!

There is shadow under this red rock,
(Come in under the shadow of this red rock),
And I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.

– T.S. Elliot, The Waste Land, I. The Burial of the Dead, lines 25-30

Congratulations Top 16, commiserations to the rest. Well done all around. I doubt I could have entered a solid enough map to have advanced.

Now while the Top 16 can't talk about Round 3 -- we can!

I totally didn't know anything about the location, Nar-Voth, but thank you people behind Pathfinder Wiki because you're awesome.

Inspired by people like GM_Solspiral's The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly and others (like Nickolas Floyd's efforts to "Edit My Item"), I too plan on trying to critique EVERYONE'S ITEM that they submit to the Official Crtique My Item Thread.

I give a longer version of my explaination about my system on my Blog Post for Fat Goblin Games.

But very quickly, here are the 5 tags I'll use. I will try to follow each of these with a pertinant comment about your item and why I would tag it as I did. <Side Note: These aren't a heirarchy per se, Rewrites aren't neccisarily "better" than Filler, for instance, it just means I'd want to do some major rewrite for the item>

Superstar = You would have been in my Top 32.
Publishable = Solid writing sample submission.
Rewrite = Concept has promise, but needs revision.
Filler = Item is "ok", but not particularly interesting.
Reject = I would have rejected this out of hand.

I'm going to focus on the people in the Thread first, trying to do it by one of my posts = one page of the Thread. I am going to wait to bother commenting on the Top 32, they're getting plenty of attention, and are likely too busy today to bother reading comments as they redraw their maps for the umpteenth time, etc.

If you'd like a more in depth discussion of one of my comments, feel free to reply here and I will attempt to explain myself.

I also included my own item submission, the Dynamic Staff to the critique thread and I'd appreciate any and all commentary on that item. (doesn't matter where you post it, I'll use Garrett's handy tracker to find it here or there or anywhere). I'll say this about my Dynamic Staff --- I went for something a little off beat because I wanted to attempt the challenge of "Staffs are hard mode" head on, and I thought it a novel solution to not making a staff simply a SiaC (while basically just being that, but with options).

So far, the only comment I've read is from the official judges post by Mark Seifter, and all it had was "*Not really a staff." to which I instantly wanted to say, "BAH! Sure it is!"

Star Voter Season 6, Star Voter Season 7, Star Voter Season 8, Star Voter Season 9

Hello All,

I was wondering if the following has happened to anyone else?

I generally keep a tab open all day where I'm voting on my desktop PC. This works great 99% of the time, especially since I spend 3/4s of the time I am awake at or near that PC and I can quickly and easily get a few votes in during any kind of downtime in my day.

Yesterday though, I had an odd thing happen. I came back to my PC after being gone for just a little while and pulled up the tab, had the two entries and clicked my vote --- and it reset to the exact same pair, with a 60 second timer.

Now I've regularly had it reset to the 20 second timer, and figure it's because I've been away too long. I'll even occasionally refresh it before I come back if I've been gone a really long time to try to get it good to go.

The really odd thing was -- it KEPT RESETTING! So I waited for the next full minute, this time keeping the page open and just sitting their counting down the time. I made the same vote, and the screen refreshed but AGAIN with the same two items, and again with a 60 second timer. Waited the 60 seconds, clicked in my vote and, AGAIN same pair on a 60 second timer....

Thinking something was all messed up, I closed out that tab, and recreated it going through the regular RPG SuperStar main page, and it was the same two items, with a 60 second counter. Waited the 60 seconds and then voted for the same item again and...

It reloaded to the SAME TWO ITEMS but they'd flipped sides! So that the item that had appeared on the left hand side appeared this time on the right, and vice versa. And again, 60 second timer.

I was like "Ok, one more time -- then I'm voting for the other dang item, because clearly that is what the Gods of RPG SuperStar must want me to do!" but this time, I voted for the same item and...

I finally got a new pair of items!

It was so funny I literally was laughing out loud. So I'm not sure if I got to vote like 3 or 4 times on the same item pairs (possibly with them in different spots! like it would throw me off :P) or if my browser was just malfunctioning or what but it was very weird and I wondered if anyone else had had it happen?

Best part too! Both items were so badly done, I'd wonder if they'll even make the cull (one had zero formatting done correctly and the other had it only partially done right, but was sort of maybe not really a weapon like it was claiming to be???)

Hunter's Kit:

This kit includes a backpack, a bedroll, a belt pouch, a flint and steel, an iron pot, a mess kit, rope, a spell component pouch, torches (10), trail rations (5 days), a waterskin, and a wooden holy symbol.

Step 1:

+ Melia was born in the Henderthane family, Thrune loyalists and the main arms dealers of House Thrune.
+ Like her family, Melia knows her way around a variety of blades
+ She has been a great swordfighter since a very early age
+ Unlike her family, she never had any loyalty to Thrune
+ Raised as an Asmodean she secretly turned away from the faith after she had been allowed to take part in religious ceremony for the first time
+ She was never a fan of slavery and the sacrifice of slaves to Asmodeus made her revile both it and her faith
+ She kept his change of heart secret and resolved to help the halfling slaves of the estate she called home escape their enslavement
+ Her mother found out and tried to convince her to turn back to the fold before others found out
+ They did anyway and Melia fled before they could get to her
+ She later learned that she had been disowned and excommunicated and her mother, who had married into the family, was now treated as a pariah because she didn't come forward immediately
+ Melia has lived in Kintargo ever since, sure it would be the one place where her past would leave her alone
+ She lived in Kintargo for 5 years without issue, though she almost used up the funds she took when he ran
+ The arrival of Barzillai Thrune messed up her plan. With a Thrune in the city it would be only a matter of time before her family found out and she'd be hunted down for her betrayal.

Step 2:

+ Avoid discovery as a daughter of House Henderthane by Thrune or it's associates
+ Stay out of the hands of the Chelish government and the church of Asmodeus
+ Turn Kintargo back into the home that she has come to love over the past years
+ Side goal and probably not relevant to the game: Keep the secret activities of her sister a secret, which is another reason she doesn't want to get caught

Step 3:

+ Unbeknownst to Melia her family never brought the news of her "betrayal" to their allies out of shame for their wayward daughter.
+ What she also does not know is that the contact she worked with to spirit away the halfling slaves was actually a member of the Bellflower Network and they also secretly helped cover her tracks when he fled
+ Melia's sister actually shares her ideas and is continuing her work. She is a lot better at hiding her work though and their family doesn't have a clue.

Step 4:

+ Tobar Henderthane, Melia's older brother and a devoted diabolist and Thrune loyalist. He despises his younger sister for what he feels as betrayal and would love nothing more than to bring her back and sacrifice her in the name of the Lord of Hell and Queen Abrogail.
+ Bini Fizzwinkle, one of the slaves that used to live on the Henderthane estate and one of the last that Melia helped get out. She ended up in Kintargo through work of the Bellflower Network and helped Melia settle in when she arrived. She's still very thankful for her work and the sacrifices she has made for her and others.
+ Mattis Tavishi, an older Tiefling native to Kintargo and Melia's neighbour. Despises the Chelish for abuse during his youth. Is convinced Melia is some sort of Chelish noble and has been nothing but a pain in the ass ever since. Great lover of Kintargo and it's opera (hostile now, possible future friend).
+ Jennar Tavishi, Matti's tiefling son. Apprentice maker of string instruments. Only knows Melia from when he visits his father and has a crush on her. Only recently dared to even speak with her. Melia likes him but is unaware of his affection.
+ Horani Thrune, heir to a lesser branch of the Thrune family. Melia's intended husband through a deal between the families. Has no idea what happened to Melia other than that she's missing. Melia thinks he's a hollow, characterless windbag.

++ Jandor & Belhave, Melia's pet dogs. They are Taldan Bulldogs (think French bulldog) and have been her closest companions in Kintargo. She bought Belhave on her way to Kintargo as a guard and later bought Jandor as a puppy in Kintargo.

Step 5:

+ Melia remembers her first fencing lessons at the age of 5 and how she already surpassed her 9 year old brother after only a few weeks of training.
+ The first sacrifice to Asmodeus she witnessed at 12 years of age. It was a halfling boy of her age who had accidentally dropped a stack of plates in the estate kitchen and was deemed a klutz and as such a bad slave. Melia's father forced her to watch the whole thing.
+ How her older sister had approached her after Melia had first stopped the punishment of one of the slaves. She had been working with an outside contact for a while to liberate those they could. It was work started by their great grandmother and after that by several other family members.
+ The moment of her escape and how her mother held up her father, brother and uncle when they came to fetch her. She then fled via the same route she used to help the slaves escape.
