Hello All!

Just wanted to announce that the latest in the Call to Arms line from Fat Goblin Games is now available as a PDF from the Paizo store -- Call to Arms: Powders & Dust.

The last book in this series, Garrett Guillotte's Call to Arms: Fantastic Technology sold amazingly well with two solid reviews so far, and while I suspect fewer people will be so strongly drawn to a book about mundane and alchemical powders and magical dusts, I really hope you'll give the book a chance!

If you'd like to read more about the book or it's author, check out my blog-post from fatgoblingames.com available from this link.

If you have questions, want to know more about it, etc. feel free to post here or in the product discussion, and I'll be trying to come back here and there to see what people have to say!

There is shadow under this red rock,
(Come in under the shadow of this red rock),
And I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.

– T.S. Elliot, The Waste Land, I. The Burial of the Dead, lines 25-30

I'm the author on this one! If you like the Guide to the Guides, Jacob's Tower, or anything else I've done, make sure to give it a look. I'll definitely be using it for my own campaigns (and there's some love for the ninja and dirty trick in there, as well as some awesome new items, feats, and artifacts).

I think Fantastic Technology sold so well because it fills several needs that previously had a huge void. Since Paizo's technology guide was a Campaign Setting sized book it didn't address all the things that people wanted out of technology.

There was no kingdom building/downtime rules that used it. Fantastic Technology fulfilled that need.

There was very few means to deal with melee technology. Fantastic Technology fulfilled that need.

Familiar material like plastic was not a part of the new materials. Fantastic Technology fulfilled that need.

The conversion of power sources was not explored. Fantastic Technology fulfilled that need.

There was not a technological means to advance weapons like magic weapons can advance. Fantastic Technology fulfilled that need in spades without being exactly the same as magical enhancements. The very concept of Magnitude made armor and weapon enhancing for technology a thing.

One of the few problems with it was that it was relatively short. So suspecting less clamor for this one is probably spot on. I don't immediately have a need for powder support, mundane, magical, alchemical or otherwise, but I cant think of much other powder support in any other product so it will probably have fans.

Yeah -- that's mostly my thinking too. But, here's hoping some people will be willing to take a stab at it! :D

By-the-by Malwing, if you're willing to do a review like you did for Fantastic Tech, you can contact Rick again with the email address I messaged you last time and he's likely to give you a free review copy.

@Lucus: +500 XP for quoting my favorite epic poem.

And fwiw, July I'll tackle Fantastic Technology and this as well; I'm currently, one by one, smashing the big books in my backlog, which will result in better catch-up rates.

With the nature of the book, it's just too good.

And RE: Fantastic Technology & Powders & Dust -- yay! I'm sure you have a ton of books to read and review, but YAY!

Call to Arms: Powders and Dust clocks in at 30 pages, with well over 60 items (including alchemic, magical, cursed, intelligent, artifact, and mythic dusts). There are also new feats, a new ninja trick for blinding your opponent, new horrific diseases, a new weapon material, a new method for crafting spells into thrown dust, and other odds and ends. The items are written for Pathfinder, but both the items and concepts are easily adapted to any rule set you could choose. There's no reason the artifact level Dust of Cascading Death could wipe out villages only in a Pathfinder universe!

My goal with this book was to take something seemingly simple and transform it into a fascinating, interesting, and malleable tool for every adventurer from fighter to sorcerer to ninja. There's lots in there, both crunch and fluff, to do exactly that.

And Malwing has been nice enough to review the book!

Go check out the product link in my OP to see what he had to say about mundane powders & magical dusts!
