My experienced group who've played some 2E Playtest, feel that cover needs fixing. We like that 1E's Cover rules stimulated more tactical decisions and encouraged movement and thus a more dynamic and less stagnant combat. With 2E cover penalties being much less an issue, and with Starfinder being MORE ranged combat focused, cover needs fixing. Here's one idea. Find Defensive Position

GM Core: " If an attack with a splash weapon fails, succeeds, or critically succeeds,
Player Core 1 and 2: " A splash weapon or effect deals any listed splash damage to the target on a failure, success, or critical success and to all other creatures
GM Core says those within 5' take damage from a *failure*; PC1 and 2 say only on a *success* or *critical success*. Which is it?

Does anyone know how many Field Tests Paizo intends to release, and by what date all of the releases are live? I'm trying to setup a playthrough of Planetfall with Field Test characters, but there are missing pieces.

Supernova is technically, RAW, not a radius effect, although it does say all creatures within 10 feet of you. That means a Medium Solarian has a 12.5' radius?, while Large Solarian extends their Supernova out to 15' radius?, Huge Solarian extends their Supernova out at a 20' radius?, etc. A) Should Supernova be treated as a radius effect? Especially given the complications of different-sized creatures having different size radius effects? B) Since Distant Burst can only be used with revelations that have a radius effect, and Supernova, RAW, doesn't have a specified radius, does it still work? C) If the intent IS for Supernova to work with Distant Burst, will the Errata be updated to reflect that? And do larger creatures get a larger area of effect? That seems a bit unfair. As you can see, the interactions of these two abilities do create some issues that need clarification.

I've been a Starfinder Society Scenario subscriber, uninterrupted, from early on, but I see to be missing two scenarios from my Digital Content page; SFS 4-13 Hard Reset
Could you please check on those?

The requirement is: Your most recent action was to Cast a Spell or Spellstrike. As long as you haven't take a reaction (which would be your most recent action), it appears, RAW, that if you had finished your last round by casting a 2 action spell, that you could use that as the qualifier for Arcane Cascade in the new round.

*Pursue a Lead*
You spend 1 minute examining the details of one potential clue, designating the subject related to that clue as the target of your active investigation. This subject is typically a single creature, item, or small location (such as a room or corridor), but the GM might allow a different scope for your investigation. You don't need to know the identity, purpose, or nature of the subject, but you do need to be aware of its existence. For instance, finding a footprint is enough to investigate the creature that left it, and seeing a hasty sketch of an item or location can be enough to start your investigation of that subject. Whenever you attempt a Perception or skill check to investigate a designated subject, you gain a +1 circumstance bonus to the check. The exact checks this applies to depend on the actions you use to investigate and are determined by the GM, but checks to investigate are typically Perception checks or skill checks that use Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma. ************************
Hands 2; Bulk 1. This leather satchel contains empty vials, a pair of tweezers, a supply of small linen cloths, a set of brass calipers and a knotted string for measuring distances, several pieces of chalk, a pen, and a blank notebook for keeping notes. Every component of a detective's kit is of exceeding quality, and thus a detective's kit adds a +1 item bonus to checks to investigate a crime scene, a clue, or similar details.
Question: I'd like to assume, for the sake of easy ruling as a GM, that the kit bonus always applies to the Pursue a Lead's skill checks. They are bonuses of different types. Do you see any reason why it shouldn't/wouldn't?

So, Cirene is crafting a set of Healer's Tools Expanded, she started this project at level 3, and will finish when she is level 4 perhaps. When I spend days to reduce cost, do I use the original level I started the project at, or the new level I am?

I'm trying to come up with uses for a familiar. Given that they have a decent stealth, and can have darkvision, they could make a decent scout. So a wizard puts scent and speech, then sends the familiar to "scout" out the next room. The familiar does so. It then comes back in and makes a report to the wizard (speech). Is it as intelligent as the wizard? Does it possess the same recall knowledge skills? Can it even make a report? Before it speaks, it has to put what it saw into words. What is the limit to its vocabulary? At what point does it break the game? I saw a gray moving shape that stank.

CRB p447 says "The GM can quickly decide whether your target has cover...or greater cover if the obstruction is extreme." Also, "If cover is especially light, typically when it's provided by *a* creature (singular), you have lesser (+1)..." It doesn't state how to adjudicate multiple creatures obstructing your target. Say there are 8 creatures between you and your target (spellcaster perhaps), all in a 5' wide hallway for example. Players cite it's lesser cover (provided by a creature or (multiple creatures), GM thinks it is all but impossible. How do you rule?

Say I grapple successfully. According to text I have it restrained until at least "the end of my next turn." Then what is the purpose of "You can also Grapple to keep your hold on a creature you already grabbed?" I shouldn't need to take the Grapple action for this effect, since the duration is already the end of my next turn. Can someone please explain? This seems contradictory. Do you need to reestablish the grapple each time on your turn (as in 1E)? "to keep your hold"; if so, why does a success have a duration "until the end of your next turn"? Grapple Single Action
Critical Success Your opponent is restrained *until the end of your next turn* unless you move or your opponent Escapes (page 470).

It's very hard for me to understand, after reading the adventure, when the PCs will earn enough xp to level. Should I just allow them to level to 2 before part 2, and 3 before part 3? Of course, much depends on how much success there is in the encounters, but not all of the XP is accounted for in the module. How are folks going about it?

First, if I buy a buckler, can I equip it while holding the glaive? If so, can I Stride, Strike, release (1 hand on glaive), and Ready a shield (buckler)? If so, what action would it be in the following round to take hold of the glaive again? Would it be, Release (buckler), Interact with glaive, and then the rest (Strike, stride, etc.)? I didn't see an action that covered "drawing a weapon" or putting the two handed weapon you are holding with 1 hand back into 2 hands.

The touch spells that currently (may) suck are chill touch (unclear if its save negates, but appears to be), vampiric touch (also, unclear) touch of idiocy (save negates). All the other touch spells seem decent (no play experience yet), and seem up to 2E par with other class abilities, etc. There are some good ones. But vampiric touch is 3rd level, and does nothing if enemies save? Touch of idiocy is 2nd and save negates? We know that 2E monsters will more often than not make that save (they have strong bonuses, making these two spells (and perhaps chill touch) the worst choices for any spellcaster. Please prove this thesis wrong. Take into account that spells are RARE resources. Shouldn't there be some degrees of success/failure for those spells?

Is the intent to have two different ways to close? If you fail the closing check after defeating the zombie minions, the scenario can also allow you to close against Wight. This is intended, correct?

I recently encountered a Giant Fly, failed, took damage and had to bury a card from my discard. In this case, does damage happen first, or after the bury effect? This makes a difference because the damage could be buried (which btw, had my healing card in it).

There are no figures listed, just bars, but labels on the side columns. Those are my estimates according to the chart. Quote:

In Book 2, p.30, Omenisca is arguing with Azlanti, and the party can influence how the argument is resolved. If the party angers Omenisca, she starts activating some SERIOUS difficulty security robots. How do the PCs stop her, if she doesn't have statistics? Should she use prison guard stats? Looking for an official ruling, please. Seems like an oversight.

Look at the second encounter in "The Lost Star," the one with 4 level 0 creatures (total xp is 120, at 30 each) - encounter is listed as "High" difficulty. Compare with bestiary, p.21, which lists a 120xp encounter as Severe. The 3rd encounter with 6 level 0s = 180, listed as Severe in the adventure, but beyond Extreme+ (160) in Bestiary. What's going on here? The encounter with two level 1 creatures, plus 3 level 0 creatures, plus 1 level 0 hazard = 230 xp (way beyond Extreme threat), but the adventure says Severe. Does the Bestiary have errors in the chart? Or is The Lost Path purposefully too difficult, and meant to test the PCs extremely?

The first world summon graft gives Perception as a class skill; yet the Tiny base elemental form, upon which the graft is grafted, has a perception score of +3 already (although apparently not trained in it, though this is unsure.) How does the stat block improve, if at all? It's base wisdom is +0. Relevant text: "and they have the same total skill bonus as the base stat block's existing skills." RAW, it would still be +3, so no need to add it as a class skill. Any help would be appreciated, as I'm making a summon creature document that players can use at tables where they play a Starfinder summoner.

"can stay in whirlwind form for a number of rounds equal to half its CR." Do Tiny (CR 1/3) and Small (CR 1) have the whirlwind ability? It doesn't say a minimum of 1, so I don't think they get it unless they are medium size or larger.

Page 15-16 of SFS Roleplaying Guide says "The GM's character receives Downtime (see page 45)..." On pg 45, one of the options is Day Job. So as a practical matter, the GM should just roll when the players roll, and fill that box out, I take it?

Scenario text is "Build the blessings deck with only 15 cards. When you would acquire a bles sing, put it on the bottom of the blessings deck instead. If you
First, is this everyone doing it or just the player who's turn it is? Second, when we played it, we got to a temporary close situation at the "Canyon" location, which says the closing condition is "Encounter and acquire the bottom card of the blessings deck", which was totally emptied. How do we reconcile not having any blessings to encounter? What we did was, essentially, add the following text to the end of "Instead, bury 1 card from your discard pile, your hand, and your deck. Draw a blessing from the box and place it in the blessings pile, and take a normal turn." This way, we had a blessing in the pile to encounter in order to close Canyon. Otherwise, if you can't temporary close Canyon, losing would be more likely. But, this does need an errata clarification.
